We have only been here during the day time. Space is super clean, kid friendly, staff is amazing, love that at least one or more of the owners is always present and interacting with customers. The service here was super friendly and the decor was very hip BUT the food just wasn't good! I usually love Chinese food but I couldn't eat most of the dishes here. The veggie noodles had a burnt aftertaste and not enough vegetables. The bok Choi with oyster sauce tasted super fishy. And the tofu in the cucumber salad had a sour taste, super vinegary. I really can't figure out why so many people love this place. I recommend Joy in Highland Park instead. It's Taiwanese instead of Chinese but the food is way better. read more

My boyfriend had the beef noodle which wasn't bad. I felt that it was too expensive for the portion that they gave us and a tad bit too oily. I would give it a 6.5-7/10. Now the main reason what lured us into their shop was the ube bao. I swear to you, anything UBE, SIGN ME UP! ‍ Cause I absolutely love ube! When we received it, as you can see from the picture it looked stunningly appetizing but I didn't really noticed that they added chili oil to it. I honestly didn't like it, I'd rather have it without the chili oil. I would give it 8/10. If you do plan to order it, ask to not have oil added. I don't think they should have it added automatically because they need to consider family who have kids. Overall I would give this place 3.5 stars based on the beef noodle and ube bao. read more

This place was a great find. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the chef mills around checking in with guests, which I love. Gotta try the scallion pancakes with the hot sauce added to the sauce that comes with them. The beef noodles are fantastic, the pork belly melts in mouth. I've only ordered delivery but this has become one of my staples. The chewy noodles are so flavorful and I just love the chewy texture. The vegetarian one also has a good ratio of vegetables to noodles. Woons noodles with mamas way hot sauce is one of the best tasting things I have ever had. I crave it constantly. We usually get them vegetarian, which means w/ mushroom, pair it with the fried rice and greens, you know, to be healthy. It never disappoints. You definitely feel like you're at home when you come in. We also came when it was raining so the outside patio wasn't open for seating. It's an order-first-sit-after place but when we came there was plenty of seats so we sat first lol. We ordered the beef noodles, pork belly baos & the fried fish cake - totaling about $40 with tip. To be honest, the beef noodle portion was a little small for the price of $12 but it was really good! The pork belly baos we're pretty big and can get a little messy! I wasn't expecting the fried fish cake to actually have a fish ball(??) inside since I was expecting something like the korean fish cakes but it was good and different! I recently stayed in Filipino Town and was so happy to come upon this delicious spot at the end of my block. Someone recommended the beef noodles and I also ordered the scallion pancakes, it was definitely enough for two so I had the leftovers for breakfast, which was such a yummy breakfast. First, the red and spicy dipping sauce was sooooo good, amazing; I wish I had ordered extra as I would put that on everything always. The noodles were unique to me, as they were thick and chewy but not in a bad way, the sauce/spices clung to the noodles, making each bite flavorful and delicious and even better after I poured the remainder of that spicy sauce on them. Oh, and although I am not gluten free, out of curiosity and a recommendation from a guy in line with me, I tried a can of the Japanese rice beer and it was the perfect companion to this spicy delicious meal. My first time going to Woon, I opt out of dining in because I saw a massive line outside so decided to order thru DoorDash for pick up. When my order was ready for pick up, I showed my order to this guy (dude in a hat, glasses and a hippy mustache) in the counter my order. He handed me my order and went on my way. When I got to my place, open the bag and to my surprise it wasn't my order. I contacted DoorDash but ofc they can't do anything to compensate my order. So I decided to drive back and get my actual order. I went straight to the dude and told him he handed me the wrong order. Before I even finished my sentence he was already irritated and mumbled I repeated your name! Like he was blaming me for giving me the wrong bag after I showed him MY order on my phone! He proceeded to say "sorry about that" like he patronizing me. I walked out and felt disgusted by his attitude. Pleasure check your workers. Had lunch at Brain Dead / Slammers the weekend that Woon was doing their pop up, and holy cow - everything was 10 out of 10 delicious. The dumplings were extra magical. I would also like to point out that the restaurant was packed but the line to order as well as the wait to get the food was perfectly reasonable considering how busy it was. The slightly chewy consistency of the noodles along with the lightly hearty square cut shiitake mushrooms and baby bok choy left me so pleasantly full. I had high expectations for this place but was sorely disappointed. I got the fried rice gluten free and found it annoying that I was just told that to make it gluten free they use gf soy sauce when they ended up not cooking it with the Chinese sausage which is what I was looking forward to. Stopped by Woon today in another attempt to see friends who live on the Eastside. I've seen a lot of photos of this place on IG and was super excited. The environment is extremely aesthetic and calming on a Thursday afternoon. PORK BELLY BAO: Really great quality, large portion, rivals gua bao in Taiwan. A must get for your first time! The pickled vegetables inside are flavorful and add a lot of depth to an otherwise one-note (if delicious and cozy) dish. BEEF NOODLES: The flavor of the sauce was great, especially with Mama Fong's recommended vinegar and chili sauce, but I thought the noodles were a bit too doughy/chewy-almost like they were a bit raw. There was a lot of substantial meat and bok choy. Heads up for people ordering about the noodle texture. DEEP FRIED ICE CREAM BAO: Definitely the visual crowd pleaser for Instagram. The bao + ice cream combo is rich, and the taste reminds me of a tempura ice cream dessert. The ice cream is from Wanderlust, which is amazing. I got the Japanese neopolitan and my friend got the ube-both are worth trying. I'll be back to try the other dishes-I might even get the noodles but the texture caught me off guard. read more

Woon was not what I expected. I ordered the beef noodles. The noodles itself was really thick and chewy, which is a good thing. BUT it tastes like someone burnt the previous noodle in the pan, served it, and then cooked mine in the same pan. As a chef, how do you not notice and serve it to your customers? Also, $11 for just literally a handful of noodles is just too expensive. The fish cake was also very dry. All you can taste was the dry crunchy outside. The inside was drowned out. One good thing was the pork belly buns. The pork belly was very well cooked, juicy, and seasoned. Definitely worth a try. But the rest was just ridiculous. The noodles would have been worth it if it wasn't burnt and was double the amount they give you. One last thing, if you want higher quality Chinese food, go to Alhambra area. read more

Visited Woon for the first time yesterday for a friend's bday dinner. Amazing food! There was enough to share for our large party and they had a fantastic drink selection (non-/alcoholic). My husband got the milk tea and it was super delicious. We had several dishes, including some salads, noodles, rolls, and wraps. My absolute favorite were the noodles with chili sauce and vinegar--delish. The owner came out to talk a little bit about his vision behind opening Woon and how all of his recipes are his mom's originals. It was extremely heartwarming and you could tell the food was cooked with love. Their prices are extremely fair for what you get. Woon is good, and I'm happy there's restaurants like these. Woon was opened by children inspired by their mother's homestyle Chinese cooking, and a desire to share its joys with the rest of the world. While other ABC's/Chinese folks may not find interest in this (after all, each of our respective mothers/fathers make the best home-cooked Chinese food ;) ;) ;)), I think as a concept, this is an important step for Chinese cuisine to take in the US. True Chinese cuisine isn't Panda Express, it isn't Pei Wei, it isn't PF Chang's. It also isn't limited to some of the super fancy upscale-modified Chinese restaurants you may find in a large city like NYC or LA. The ethos of true Chinese cuisine is akin to that which is being served at places like Woon: humble dishes with ingredients from your local grocer, prepared to perfection, to be enjoyed amongst family and friends. The menu offerings at Woon are pretty concise, and should be familiar if you've been to any non-Americanized Chinese restaurant. We went for a family-style spread, as one does, of beef noodles, pork belly bao, fried tofu fishcakes, gai lan, and spiced wings, finished off with an ice cream bao for dessert. Oh, and can't forget their natural wine menu, which we snagged a beautiful orange wine off of. Highlights for me were probably the pork belly, and the fishcakes actually. The ice cream flavor was good, but to be completely honest, the fried bao was a bit difficult to eat as a shared item. Anyways, I was charmed by Woon, and hope that this can serve as the new neighborhood standard for what people mean when they say "we should grab Chinese." read more
