The stores serves its purpose. I've been going here since I was a child and frankly, it gets the job done. It's affordable and it is like a Walmart for international/middle eastern foods. It's not extremely well organized perfectly but it has its rhythm. You have to know how to look and not give up easily. read more

The is writer is a tall blue eyed European-looking female no one would mistake for a middle-easterner. As such, whenever I walk into World Food Warehouse I'm aware that staff and customers perceive me as "different". I get lots of stares! (Males do try to be unobtrusive about it). I understand, because I've never seen anyone who looks at all like me in this store --and I began shopping here about 20 years ago. I choose not to feel "othered" because I know we're all members of one same human family --flowers of one branch, waves of one ocean! I am a friend to all. I never experienced open disrespect until my latest visit, last week. Then a young cashier with bleached blonde hair and a bejeweled cell phone bolted to her hand behaved in an arrogant manner. She looked me up and down with a dead gaze. Then made no eye contact, and didn't return my smiles or pleasantries. Then somehow she managed to stick each bunch of fresh herbs (cilantro, dill weed, mint, basil, thyme. etc) in a bag with hard, heavy items like apples, glass jars or cans. She dispersed the frozen items among all the bags with solid room- temperature items) Fortunately I noticed, and took time to re-pack everything before leaving the store. If I hadn't, the tender herbs would have been crushed and the frozen items would have thawed out by the time I got home. Only a kid--or an angry adult-- could have bagged things so carelessly. In short, it seemed systematic and mischievous, yet eminently deniable. I choose not to take such treatment personally, and yet I do not shrug it off. So, if you look Northern European be prepared to be treated a bit differently, and make yourself at home anyhow. (Of course, I recommend that women dress conservatively, simply as a matter of courtesy in this or any venue frequented predominately by people from Islamic backgrounds.) But what do I LOVE about World Food Warehouse? It's is the only place I know in Dallas to find such a range of fresh produce, frozen, canned and shelf-stable groceries including beans and pulses, dried fruits, dairy (the labnah! the white cheeses!) They sell never-seen khask (aka qurut, kurut, qqet, jameed, shilanch and other names). They have miles of herbs and spices, teas, and convenience foods from "the Middle East" as defined in broadest terms. They have a halal butcher. Ready made foods do you can serve unexpected guests an amazing dinner. And fresh breads! And sweets! They have sahlep. Also fresh, frozen, canned or dried broad beans (ful). Lots of rice, basmati and many other varieties In short, you'll find the raw materials to recreate wonderful meals you have enjoyed as a traveller in the Arabian Peninsula, the Levant, Türkiye, Iran, Egypt, Iraq, Central and South Asia, North Africa, etc. Or meals you've enjoyed as the fortunate guest of a gifted home cook transplanted to Dallas from any of a couple dozen countries. You'll know you aren't at Tom Thumb! I always buy more than I planned because I can't pass up the lucky finds. Last week I was pleased to find quince fruits, sour grapes from Chile, frozen artichoke hearts, and a great price on mung beans (hard to find at any price in Dallas). read more

This place is definitely going to have what you need. It will also give you a crowded, ethnic store feel. Note: the to-go food is available Fri-Sun. ( shawarma, falafel and kabob meat plates) there are some samosas and miscellaneous appetizer items available daily. Fresh bread and pastries are also available daily. The place is crowded and after a decade it is still the same layout with narrow aisles and semi order. People and workers are rude and block your path constantly. I love the selection and the prices are great, but it is so crowded that it is incredibly difficult to navigate. The back aisle was blocked, so you had to either back out or turn your cart around in the narrow aisle to exit. Most pathways through the store are only large enough for one person to get through, and without any designated direction, shoppers stacked up on both ends trying to get through! read more

This was my childhood family grocery back in my Richardson days!!! We would come EVERY Sunday after Sunday school back in the late 90's. Always bustling on the weekends, it is a little treasure that is close to my heart! Don't be warded off by the weird entrance, warehouse fascade, and awkward parking lot. It's totally worth going to despite ALL of those things. I absolutely LOVE the diversity of the people that come to this place - black, white, brown, rich and poor. This store embodies every image of a warehouse - busted, stained concrete floors, padded ceiling, poorly insulated and air conditioned, fluorescent lighting, strange layout. It may come across as a bit unkempt, maybe I'm just used to it because we used to come here so much. This is my only knock. Now for the positives. The fresh, trays FULL of homemade baklava greet you at the door. The smells of bakery fresh paratas (large flatbread), olive bar, cheese bar, baked goods, etc fill the store. Over towards the front, there is a full-fledge carryout restaurant that pops out fresh pita, freshly sliced-off-the-rotating-spit gyros, kabobs AND biryani...the biryani is the best kept secret! $1.99 for a generously PACKED box of meat and perfectly seasoned rice. The gyros sandwich is only $2.99. Yes, I'm NOT kidding. The groceries consist of really fresh and cheap meats - beef, chicken, lamb, goat. The spice and dry goods aisles are equally impressive. They have lots of imported European munchies and sweets. They have products from anywhere in the Middle East, Turkey, and even South Asia. I absolutely love this place! To be honest, I didn't expect this place to be as good as it turned out to be, because the ratings for this place is not as good as it should be. So, despite this place being around for a long time, and being discovered by at least 30 Yelpers, my trip here felt like a search for a hidden treasure. And upon entering, i was surprised to see the dessert case. And then was further surprised to see how big this store was. And even more surprised to see a rather large hot food area. And again, surprised to see a pretty good bulk spice area, numerous olives, a large display case of ready-to-cook Persian kabobs and a lady baking fresh pita bread. And even a corner for all things Islamic and hookah/shisha/narguile related. Hidden behind the aisles, and to the left, is the produce area which I thought was just mediocre although the prices are pretty outstanding unless if it was mislabeled (i.e. 19 cents a pound for yellow onions? Really?) And then there are two additional "rooms" - to the left is the freezer area and to the right is the Halal butcher shop where you can find all things beef, chicken, lamb/goat (lamb hearts, goat tongues, etc). And then there's the aisles. The endless maze of aisles (there are signs, at least for some of them but they are so high up that you might not notice them unless if you looked up) are definitely well stocked and more organized than I thought they would be. There were simply a great assortment of everything - rice, spices, canned products, olive oils, even huge tubs of tahini. There's coffee, tea and even European products from Macedonia (some cereal brands, interestingly), Italy (panettone, anyone?), and some well regarded European candies. While this is heavily middle eastern, the Indian/ Pakistani influence is also strong as I found some ready-to-eat samosas, and patties filled with lamb, etc. If you plan to come here to eat, you won't find tables but you'll probably be happy with the prices. I haven't found such low prices anywhere else as it is definitely dirt cheap. However, unlike other Yelpers, I probably would suggest for you to skip the gyro and shawarma since the shawarma I got was a bit too crumbly and dry (tasteless meat) even though it was well seasoned. Possibly for being cooked too long even though I was there at the beginning of the lunch rush. Go instead for the kabobs since they are grilled to order. The breads here are also good. The cheese bread looked questionable but when I toasted it at home, it had a good flavor. The same goes for the za'atar bread. Pita bread is plentiful in white wheat and whole wheat although they don't serve the thin kinds that you find at Sara's nearby. Still good though. So would I return? Probably yes - and I will try some other things here to see how it compares with other joints around town. But even if the food was bad - this market is definitely the best stocked with the best variety of products of all Middle Eastern markets in DFW. It is worth coming back to. Note: Like the name implies, this is in a warehouse. And it's a super old warehouse at that, probably needing an upgrade. So do not be surprise if the roof leaks in one part of the store when it rains. Hopefully they can update the building soon, but considering the location and nearby buildings, I kind of doubt it. And while Sara's nearby may have better selection of pita bread and produce, and "looks" nicer - this store offers a whole lot more. read more

Despite looking crowded or disorganized this place looks and smells real and you see what you get. I like all the diversity and choices of smells, tastes, people and it feels like an old fashioned bazaar. The bread is freshly baked, the meat and chicken was good quality and reasonably priced, and the grapes, potatoes and apples were the best I'd tried in years, as well as lemons and tangerines, big batches of dill, the prices were surprisingly low as well. The cashiers have the worst behavior at this location. If you ask for a manager, there is no manager. Cashier will ask you to go find a manager yourself. If you ask any employee, who/where is the manager. They will tell you there is no manager. Cashier was literally throwing our stuff in the bags. We asked him to get one atar behind the counter and he didnt acknowledge but kept throwing stuff. Anyway, worst service ever. Only enter this store if you are an Arab. We were muslims but not arabs and all arabs got united to tell us we were actually wrong. Take your blood pressure medicine if you still decide to come here. Actual fix to this & such problems: Get rid of humans as cashiers. Install self-checkout counters that are more efficient, cost-effective, and reduce the overall operational cost. The reason for Arab comment: Another employee joined the cashier against us and they both teamed up to argue against us. They were both arabs. Then another customer who had no context also joined the cashiers team and started shouting that "we were not letting the cashier do his job and started interrupting the cashier" which was a blatant lie. Videos show the truth but well, there was no point in wasting any more time on the issue. All these people sided against us when we were also muslims but not arabs and we had kids who were witnessing this drama and arabs tag teaming against us. Therefore, shop here if you are an Arab and can deal with them. Otherwise, the staff here is rude and arrogant. It was really disappointing, especially when all of us were fasting. I didnt want to lose my patience and ruin my fasting. I was telling myself "inni saa'im, Allah o musta'aan." Nobody from the staff even bothered to offer water or a date or anything while they were all having iftar while arguing with us. This place is unapologetic and I LOVE IT. While this place isn't for the beginner ethnic foods shopper, it has a lot to offer for someone with patience and knows what they are looking for. The prepared treats at the front are a must - the lamb patties and the beef samosas are my favorite, as well as the fresh baked huge naans and parathas. The olive bar is second to none, perfectly prepared authentic olives from the Middle East, absolutely fantastic! If you love kebabs, the Iraqi fresh kebabs are the best in town. As for the groceries, it can be confusing to navigate the store, and it is disheveled. You have to be prepared for it, however, it has absolutely fantastic finds. You'll see a mix of Indian/south East Asian, Egyptian/northern African, and middle eastern imports and groceries. The prices are low, for everything, and therefore, very accessible. The halal meat section isn't the best, but the butchers are always accommodating and will fetch and prepare whatever you want, including chicken, goat, beef, and lamb. The dry goods are also very good, there is good turnover here so you'll find fresh stock of shelf-stable products. I like coming here as a one-stop shop for ethnic groceries. It can get very busy on the weekends, so prepare for difficult parking. read more

I love this store! The selection of spices and various ethnic foods, either prepared or not, cannot be beat in the Dallas area. I especially like the fresh made pita bread. Last time I was there is was only .75 for a package of 12 large pitas, compared to $2.69 at Kroger and even more at Central Market. The olive selection is great, they have various pastries with meat or vegies (samosas), and there are types of meat at the butcher that you don't find at your ordinary grocery store. This is the place to go for ethnic food that you can't find at the typical suburban grocery store. Location can be tricky at first but once you find you will never forget. read more

Customers are having social hour with no regard for social distancing and loudly bullying people who are concerned about coronavirus while management just stands by. A baker friend told me about the best bread in the world, a flat bread topped with Za'atar. Have you tried to find Za'atar? Don't bother going to Kroger's or Wal-mart. A middle eastern store was called for. Yelp gave World Food Warehouse high ratings, and I was in the neighborhood, so I stopped in. My wife is now slightly upset that she didn't get to go on this trip. The store is packed with an amazing assortment of foods, most of which my hearland of America upbringing never exposed me to. My eyes all but bugged out of my head. There are several large rooms in the store, each of which is crammed with foods. The aisles are small, and often blocked with boxes, so navigation can be awkward. The store is disorganized. No, my teenaged son's room was disorganized. This is near chaos. Almost every aisle seems to have jars of pickled cucumbers on it, no matter what else is there. One rack was very puzzling. On the lowest shelf was a wide variety of canned sardines. The next shelf up had an array of honeys from many plants and many parts of the world. The next shelf up was packed with jars of preserved grape leaves. I just didn't see the connection. Still, the spices, the teas, the rice, and the produce just blew me away - yellow onions for 29 cents a pound. Yes, twenty-nine cents a pound. I didn't have an ice chest and they are about 60 miles from my home, so I skipped the butcher area. The baked goods were great, and the people were friendly. I left with 5 sacks of groceries, including a 2 liter can of extra virgin olive oil, and the total price tag was about $45.00. They really are pretty reasonable. My wife is hinting we need to have a family outing there. Soon. read more

This is the biggest Indo-european food market I have ever seen. It's like your local mediterannean store only 15x the size. It's tucked in behind, TI, kinda. It's hard to buy olives at Central Market for $8/lb when you get them here for $2. Also petties, bread, tea, coffee, hella cheap spices, bulk rice, whatever. It's a little disorganized so it's something of a "take an hour and wander" situation. Last time I was there they had added a seperate prayer room off the side for the spiritual needs of the faithful (employees? shoppers?). You know you're store is big when it has its own chapel. The Deli alone is worth the trip, Fresh hot made to order Gyro's w/ just baked pita bread still warm from the oven and Kabobs. Super Cheap $2.99 Gyro's and $1.99 Kabobs. They have a larger menu but this I what I tasted. The Best Gyro in the Metroplex. This place is awesome for lunch super fresh and inexpensive. Did I mention that this is a Grocery store containing a large inventory of foods and spices from the Middle East. A genuinely special gem in Dallas, and most often complete under the radar for the general populace. I was introduced to WFW by a Turkish friend a few years ago, and I couldn't be more grateful. This unique store specializes in Middle Eastern, African and Indian foods, with a Halal butcher on site. Teas, breads, cheeses, vegetables and more are available, as well as non-perishable goods- not to mention clothing, housewares, decorations, health care items and more. It's truly a marvelous cultural experience, and the first visit is usually a long one. Some tips... Be sure to set aside at least an hour for your initial trip. Try a samosa or two from the hot counter near the register, and pick up some French feta just around the corner. All sorts of almonds, pistachios and such are on the far side of said counter. To the right are housewares, the meat counter, and more tea blends than you can find just about anywhere else in town. Tea drinker's bliss, plainly put. The center of the shop features sweets, canned fish, chutneys, relishes, bulk grains and juices. Further down you'll find the produce section, often boasting fresh lychee nuts, Persian cucumbers and more. Don't miss the refrigerators, stocked with kefir, yogurt, exotic juice and a truly wonderful hot ginger beer usually kept in stock. The next room is piled high with sauces, spices, rice varieties and frozen goodies. There's an entire display of henna in here, as well. NOW... My only caveat is that you must keep an eye on the expiration dates on packaged goods. Canned items, jarred goods, etc- always check. Produce here isn't the textbook "pretty" sort typically found at corporate grocery stores, but I have never had a negative issue because of that. I use the vegetables for cooking on the same day, and the flavor has actually been far better, more ripened. This is a shop with a lot of character- it isn't visually homogeneous like the corporate stores most are accustomed to. I love this about WFW, to be honest- it's a delightful adventure. Take this place on its own terms, and you'll have a memorable experience. It's certainly expanded my menu, in a vastly positive way! read more

This is one of the most amazing Middle Eastern/Mediterranean grocery stores I have ever seen! Compared to many similar markets we found their products fresh, their store clean, and the employees incredibly welcoming and helpful. No, it is not organized like a traditional American supermarket, but it is pretty easy to find what you are looking for and if you are having trouble the employees were happy to help. We were allowed to sample the cheeses and olives before making a decision and everything tasted so good it was hard to make a choice! I was visiting Dallas and was looking for some Mediterranean lunch. So I stop at Word Foods. I ordered a gyro sandwich and what I received is a pita that was filled with onions and hardly any meat. Let alone that I had to work thru the most disorganized deli in placing an order and then wait forever to get something that I ended up throwing it away. I then tried another restaurant and that was head over heals with their 'fresh' tasty gyro. The store does offer a variety of products, but so totally disorganized and some of the same stuff found repeatedly. The store/deli has great potential. Their fresh bread is awesome. My friends and I call this "The Intergalactic Market". I give it 5 stars for a vast selection; 3 stars for layout, cleanliness, and neatness of shelves (much improved over prior years); and 4 stars for the pleasant staff. If you live far away, you can stock up on the bakery-fresh thick pita bread, freeze it, and use as you like. Still very fresh tasting, even after frozen a couple of months. Make your own pita chips! There is also a small grill area in the front of the store to order take-out kebab, Iraqi kebab, and freshly prepared samosas and desserts. You have to NOT skip this area, even if it is crowded with other customers; it's worth checking out. Try something new. The best selection of Indian and Arabic food products in DFW. I buy Lebanese olive oil here, eggplant-based sauces (like ajvar and baba ganoush), olives, bulk spices, tea, yogurt, dolmas, garbanzos, rice, and saffron at a real good price. Look out for expired items, there are a few. The lighting is poor in some areas, if you want to read labels before buying. I plan to bring my lighted magnifying glass, next time. I started shopping here in 1995, and make my visits three to eight times a year. I discovered my all-time favorite soft drink here, Fanta Shokata; which is elderflower and lemon flavored. in terms of available products, for someone from the middle east this place is a gold mine! Everything you can think of, or remember from the small, dingy markets to the bigger supermarkets of the middle east, i can find stacked away on the numerous shelves. Furthermore, you can get fresh sandwiches (shawarma, kebabs, among others) and baklava and other desserts, as well as fresh fruits/veggies at pretty good prices! The only problems about this place are: 1) it never seems clean, but hey, i will wash produce, so it's not a problem, it just doesn't look too inviting. 2) there are no signs to tell you where things are and some things are spread out over the entire store. Organization would make shopping here so much easier and more enjoyable. Still, a good place to find middle eastern food/ingredients. read more

Somebody told me about their $1 biryani and we thought we'll give it a shot. Prime reason is a real disbelief that how can somebody make a profit on a $1 biryani. But after seeing their biryani, I understand. The rice were not basmati, there were a real cheap quality rice that stuck together like anything. A couple of pieces of chicken with a lot of skin and bones were swimming in the rice tastelessly. It was a total disaster. However, I have to admit that a pizza-like item I got from there bakery was really delicious. Hence, the two stars. read more
