Found this spot near Rockefeller Center. We were not sure what to expect. The dining tables had white table clothes and the staff were nicely dressed. We ordered a smoked duck, pork soup dumplings, chicken friend rice, and chicken lo mein, and general Tso chicken. The serving portions are big and can definitely be shared by 2-3 people. Everything was delicious and we would return the next time we're in the area. The only down side was the Peking duck was not ready which is why we ordered the smoked duck. Chinese Sichuan cuisine. I think their spicy dishes were better. We had a big lunch and didn't want to order anything heavy so we ordered the plain healthy ones. I'm so glad they even offered vegetarian options. The service was nice and the atmosphere was quiet for early dinner. 3*Mixed Veg in Broth 素菜汤: plain and healthy. Met a former colleague here for dinner and we had a wonderful time catching up and enjoying the delicious entrees. We started off with the Dan Dan Noodles (a must). For entrees, we had the stir fry chicken with spicy capsicum and fried prawns with walnuts. I highly recommend all three items. I also got double-cooked bacon with peppers, sautéed green beans, and cucumber salad. I've been coming here for two decades. The food and service are top quality. The decor is dated but clean. I ate here in February of 2017 on a whim.. the food and service was so good it's been an ongoing story ever since among my friends and family. Definitely the best Chinese food myself and my best friend who dined with me ever had. I visited again this year for the first time since that trip, and the food and service were still 10/10. I ordered a couple of dishes we got last time, the Tangerine Chicken and Chow Mien, but also branched out and tried some new items. We were blown away with how every single dish was better than the last. Our server (regretfully I didn't get his name) explained each dish to us as they came out which was nice. Overall I can't speak more highly of this place, by far the best Chinese food I've ever had, and I will definitely make more of an effort to pop in here when I'm in the east coast. It wasn't very busy at the moment and we were placed at the back of the establishment. We were handed these menus that looked like they have been used for many, many years; literally falling apart... yet, charming in its own way...? When you examine the room, it looks ancient. I really wonder what the place used to be before they used it for a Chinese restaurant. Our server was knowledgeable, swift and very pleasant to converse with. I asked him how long they have been operating at the location and he replied "Over 30 years". We ordered the Spicy whole fish. I asked to have the heat turned down. I'd imagine that if they had prepared it the way they should have it'd have delivered that unique, tingly spice that pepper corns are known for. For me, it was very mild. My buddy thought it was still a bit spicy. Regardless of our personal opinion on heat level... it tasted pretty good. Thinking that just a fish wasn't gonna be enough food for us, we also got the Young Chow Fried Rice. Well, that fish dish could have been a meal all in itself. This restaurant has been around for over 20 years and still looks like a great establishment. You cant make reservations online but you can by calling them. The restaurant wasn't super busy when we arrived around 6:30 on a saturday night and we ordered a lot of food. Scallion pancakes, crab and pork soup dumplings, dan dan noodles, cheng du cold noodles, green beans, shredded potatoes, mapo tofu, steamed fish, shrimp, and twice cooked pork. Overall the service was pretty fast and the food was good. The twice cooked pork used bacon instead of pork belly so it was a little salty and the shredded potatoes didnt have too much flavor. My first time here. Its on the 2nd floor so you have to get a set of steps to get to the restaurant. I was actually just here with co workers to pick up a large order so I didn't actually eat here. I did get a chance to peek at the set up though. Decent sized space for a restaurant. Seems like it is an old town house. There's a bar right by the entrance and there were plenty of tables. I'm not positive but I want to say there was an outdoor seating area in the back? Our order was all there but they didn't mark down what each dish was which I think should be standard with large orders. The food was good but very spicy. I came here for dinner on a Thursday night before seeing a Broadway show with my family since they love Szechuan food. We ordered the pork belly with leeks and the shredded beef with peppers (both very classic Szechuan dishes) along with two bowls of white rice. I didn't find either dish spicy but at least they were well seasoned. The portion was large but it was still pretty expensive for each dish ($20). I don't mind paying that much if it tasted amazing but it didn't. Service was a bit slow even though there were only two tables but the food came out fast. I am so happy we came to this gem in the city. Upon arrival it was quiet inside there was only one other guest but soon people started trickling in. The service was great and I appreciated the check-ins to make sure the food we received was to our liking. We ordered the vegetable rolls (not pictured), vegetable dumplings as apps. They were so fresh and delicious. The meal portions match the cost. Of course we had leftovers. We left for our Broadway show feeling full but not heavy. Which is always a great feeling. One of the best Midtown lunch deals in the neighborhood! I place orders for pick up and they're always very quick to fill them; food is always piping hot and fresh. The Chongqing spicy chicken is wonderfully authentic, get it if you're in the mood for a quick trip to Sichuan for your tastebuds - they use Sichuanese peppercorns in the dish! Also recommend the stir fried green beans dish (ganbian siji dou), also a classic, authentic Sichuanese dish. This is literally across the Rockefeller Building epi- center . Would be the best and recommended Chinese restaurant in the area as it is a sit down style unlike the buffet style few yards up. It is on a second floor and not wheelchair accessible. The place needs an update if they want to gather more customers to come by. We ordered the Peking duck , fried rice and veggies. Food is okay. There was no wait, everything was straightforward, and the food was good for us on a REALLY cold December night when we were visiting. There were a diverse group of people there, and it just reminded me of an early 2000s holiday movie in the city. The servers were all very sweet and friendly, and this means a lot since we went to other places that weren't as welcoming that weekend. Best Chinese food I've ever had. Working in midtown, it's always hard to find a place to get lunch quick without waiting on a line and this place does it for me. You can order online or on Uber eats and have your food super quick. I always get the general tsos lunch special and it's about 10 bucks and comes with a spring roll . They give you SO much food and the meat is actually real and not that weird meat that you sometimes can get when you order general Tsos elsewhere. Wu Liang Ye is one of the more authentic (but expensive) Sichuan restaurants in Manhattan. It's near Rockefeller Center, so it has a prime location. Their 夫妻肺片 husband and wife lung is amazing (it's a cold dish). Numbing spice (not tongue-biting spicy). We had wanted to try their 香辣蟹 (stir fried chili blue crabs) but they didn't have them. Their salt and pepper prawns are good (no shell) though the coating is a bit thick. We also had orange beef (again the coating is quite thick). The price is just so steep. Service is cold with a poker face, as you'd find in many Chinese restaurants. Their food is good though. The environment is generally dirty and untidy. Not inspiring confidence. I think very few people know that Wu Liang Ye is operated by the second largest Chinese Liquor Manufacturer, you can have the real Chinese liquor in the restaurant.
