Five year update! Chú Thien is the friendly owner that runs this shop and happily greets me each morning when I stop by to pick up breakfast, iced coffee and sometimes an entree for lunch. I've ordered catering trays from this friendly mom and pop shop for years - most recently, an order of Spring Rolls (Goi Cuon) - which was a hit at a work potluck. They even had the thought to individually wrap each roll - to maintain cleanliness, which was very much noted and appreciated by myself and my colleagues. The order included a large container of peanut dipping sauce (also a hit) - see picture. Favorites : Com Bo Kho Trung - this is quickly becoming a favorite entree of mine - it's conveniently packed in a sturdy, microwaveable container too! It's essentially fluffy white rice with a side of pickled mustard greens and a side of stewed beef and seasoned hard boiled (peeled) eggs. It's actually quite filling for a entree, packed with a lot of protein between the meat and the eggs. Cafe Sua Da - they change up the recipe and taste every now and then - I like the current flavor - whatever it is. It has a nice sweet caramel twist to it. Very light caramel hint, but still good nonetheless. I like how it maintains its strength even after sitting in ice for awhile. Don't scoff at the amount they give you (vs. ice) - its really strong stuff. Goi Cuon (Spring Rolls) - as usual, their spring rolls are great and the wrapper is moist - not cold and dry like other to-go places. The fillings are plentiful and the dipping sauce is tasty. I'll typically order the spring roll tray here for parties and gatherings. Xoi (sweet rice) with the chicken meat/sausage - this is also a yummy favorite. It's pretty much moist sweet rice (xoi) topped with fried onions, chicken meat and chinese sausage. Cash only. Small parking up front, but you can park on side or behind the store. Disclaimer: this review is solely based on the foods I purchased. Had the sticky rice with chinese sausage, fried rice, and spring rolls. Sticky rice: the sticky rice was not great, not too moist or fluffy. Too much meat sauce on top of sticky rice, made it a bit too salty for my liking. This is one of my favorite places to stop by for breakfast in the morning. Their sticky rice is all the varieties and fresh. Their banh cuon is also made in house and pretty decent. The egg rolls are delicious as Walt's and the Vietnamese coffee was thick, strong, and, satisfying. The service is also amazing. Really great place to get some Vietnamese "xoi" aka sticky rice on the go! This is a grab and go place, no tables for eating. I went here because I saw a picture of their "banh man" which is a rice flour + tapioca cake topped with freshly ground shrimp, fried onions, and chopped green onions. Yum! And for just $6. The woman was nice and gave me a cup of their homemade fish sauce. Despite me being Vietnamese, I don't really eat fish sauce very often. I opened the cup and there were bits of chili floating in the fish sauce and I immediately thought this would be too spicy for me. I tried a spoonful with my banh man and it wasn't spicy at all! Went here because I happened to be in the area. Walked in not sure if they were gonna be open due to covid 19 but they were. Wanted to support small business during this pandemic & Needed to pick up a few things for my family so I went with two types of xoi (Vietnamese sticky rice) and two types of spring rolls. I was so excited to try the xoi that I ate in my car driving home. Verdict: Very fresh xoi. Amazing xoi. Actually the xoi voi (mung bean sticky rice) reminds me of the xoi I had in Vietnam. Also got the black bean xoi and that was equally amazing. The spring rolls were filled with fresh veggies & fresh meat to be dipped in a traditional thick nutty sauce. Definitely going back. My favorite place to grab xoi in the morning. I love that they open early @ 5 am so I can get my xoi for breakfast. The xoi here is not dry like most places but has a good chewy texture. You know that they use good nep (sticky rice). They also have FRESH spring rolls, nem cuon, bo bia. I love the nem cuon because the fried banh trang roll inside is still crunchy when i got it. I like all the xoi so far and the price is a little cheaper than most places ($1.75 - $3). The Bank Duc is bomb!!! It was moist and creamy. I could taste the coconut in it. This review is strictly for the CSD - cafe sua da (VN ice coffee). As my journey to find the perfect cafe sua da (CSD) in OC continues...I stumbled upon this establishment through word of mouth from local Bolsa Yelpers. Located slightly northwest in Westminster, this place is not in the heart of Bolsa so this place is never busy. I've come here 3 times now and each time I've been the only customer. During the first visit to this place, I ordered the CSD which was delicious. It has a nice balance of sweet & strong, but not acidic (as most tend to be that will upset your stomach), has no griddy taste (i.e. leaving a bitter after taste), and does have a smooth finish upon each sip which leaves more to be desired. Each cup has more ice than I care for...but that's just a personal preference. I do like that they offer two different sizes ($2 for a small, $2.50 for the larger). Not too fancy...just the traditional french press taste with condense milk and not added flavored creamers or half 'n half that I hate from Tan Hoang Huong or at Lee's. They do make their coffee ahead of time (will just add ice upon purchase) so if you want a fresh one, just ask them...BUT you WILL wait at least 15 minutes for it since they utilize the traditional drip method. Mine was made ahead of time but didn't taste like it's been sitting there all day...still has the "fresh" coffee flavor. I will say that their coffee flavor comes from the aroma of the brewed beans and not a bunch of added artificial sweeteners like other coffeehouses. Something I absolutely hate when it comes to non-traditional cafe sua da (found at Lee's, Tan Hoang Huong or Banh Mi Cali). I won't go out of my way to make this my daily stop for coffee but it's conveniently located en route during my daily commute so hence I've made this my pit-stop more frequent than not. Stopped in around 9am on a Wednesday, and they had a large variety of still warm fresh sticky rice and also a variety of standard to-go trays (fried rice, banh beo, banh cuon, bi cuon, and goi cuon). I was really craving carbs, so I carboloaded with a tray of basic mung bean sticky rice (xoi vo), savory mung bean, mochi and sticky rice balls (banh khuc), and xoi kep (red coconut rice and black rice with sweet mung bean paste in a soft crepe). They were all still warm, but I waited until I got home to dig in. The xoi vo was 2.5 to 3 stars - very sticky, soft and gooey, so it clumped together and was soggy. It also needed either a pinch of salt (if their intent was to make it savory) or a TBSP of sugar if they wanted it sweet. It wasn't horrible, but I've had better. The sticky rice varieties in the crepes were better. The right stickiness (where the grains stayed intact) and sweetness from the mung bean paste. They also came with a small container of powdered sesame seed mixed with some granulated sugar. Once that was sprinkled onto the crepe, it was pretty good. 3-3.5 stars The banh khuc was the best. The filling was perfectly seasoned and moist (meaning they likely used a bit more oil but that's better than it being dry and crumbly). The mochi was great too. The only thing that needed tweaking was the white sticky rice surrounding the mochi. It was dry, so they needed to add a bit more water during the steaming process. I appreciated that they added some salt to the rice though. I would buy those again for sure. They come 2 to an order and are larger than usual. Overall, I think this place is a 3-3.5, I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to stop in again (like I did today - I was en route to Hien Khanh and missed my exit so I wound up here instead), but I would return if I was in the area and wanted some sticky rice items. I also bought a tray of banh cuon nhan thit (steamed rice crepes with ground pork and Woodward mushrooms) that I have yet to try.
