Had this for lunch today. It was pretty good for being my first time. Here is what I liked about the place. Very small and when the cashier said we could half the bowl with two different meals. Very cool idea because when I try new restaurants I what one of everything on the menu. The flavor you get from a Walmart shelf tikka Masala runs laps around the bland tikka masala you will find here. I was so tempted to stop customers in line and tell them to save their money. The chicken was super dry too. On a positive note, the mango lhassi was really good and the only thing we finished. I'm sad because I hate wasting food. Overall good price tho. This is one of my Anchorage go-tos! Quick, affordable, and most of all tasty AF!! I've tried all the bowls and I think they're all good, but my faves are chicken tikka masala and palak paneer. Just between us, I've ordered two 3-topping bowls in one sitting, not because I was hungry but it was so damn good. And don't sleep on the dessert, it tastes as good as it looks. This location is great for a fairly quick lunch. There is a different menu than the main restaurant on Spenard. The "cafe" has a plain atmosphere with seating for about 30, co-located with a big book store. There is a gyro on the menu but focuses more on good sized rice bowls with one, two, or three flavor combo's. I consistently get the #5 Chicken Masala and #2? Garbanzo beans. I love the flavors. The other day I tried a small amount of the Pork Vindaloo that is listed as spicy. This Vindaloo is more about great flavor than spicy and in my opinion has no more heat than the Masala. The hot chai tea is great also and comes with a refill. The counter is a glass display case full of great looking homemade desserts, one of which is the biggest Oreo I've ever seen. Goood stuff if you like sugar, and chocolate, and more sugar. I like this place a lot. read more

The rice bowl idea is cool and convenient, I just wish the entrees were better tasting. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Marsala and Palak Paneer. I am a palak paneer lover, but this one lacked substance. It did have a nice texture and delicate flavor, but it was not as rich and creamy as the other places I have tried. The big let down was that my scoop of palak paneer only came with 2 small cubes of paneer cheese. Didn't exactly take away too much from the dish because those two cubes were pretty bland and rubbery. I was mostly disappointed with the chicken tikka marsala. The pieces of chicken were extremely dry, and the sauce was just not enough to lube it down the hatch. The sauce needs spices and did not have that marsala kick. Forking the entrees aside, I noticed that the bottom of the bowl was very watery, not exactly sure if it came from the chicken or spinach. I'd have to say my favorite part of the meal was the rice, perfectly light and fluffy (just drowning in water). Sure, it may be a great deal, $8.99 for a 2-entree bowl, but I'd rather load up on my carbs elsewhere. read more

This place was exactly what we needed for a quick and delicious meal while shopping in Anchorage. The rice bowl is a great option - choose up to 3 Indian/Nepalese curries over rice for a ton of potential flavor combinations. The 3 I chose were all cooked perfectly and piping hot even though we only waited a few minutes: yam tikka masala, chana masala, and pork vindaloo. I found a whole cardamom pod in one of them, so you could tell that they were cooked from scratch with whole spices. Highly recommended if you like Indian food but want it quickly. read more

I have had their chicken tikka masala many times before but had it recently and this time it was very dry and flavorless, and when I mentioned it, the staff just told me to write a review on Yelp. Looking online, it looked like it would be similar, but it was little more than a fast food version. We dropped into this place after we visited REI which is also in the same complex. The food here is awesome and very healthy. We choose the rice bowl with two curries. We tried dal, panner palak, yam curry and the chana masala. Every dish was very satisfying and flavorful. The food tasted extremely good and had very less oil. They say "You feel like what you eat" and we felt great after eating here. We tried their banana nut and zucchini cake which were great to take as to go's while going on a hike. We also took their rice bowls as to-go's and had that as dinner while we were traveling to Denali. Their rice bows stayed fresh during our 6 hour drive. This is a great place to sit, relax and eat. After hiking around we wanted some good food that's Indian/(close to indian) so we decided to stop here. I love their yam curry, dal and darjeeling tea.
