This restaurant recently opened in my neighborhood. After a crazy work day and a softball game, my fiancé and I were looking to grab a nice meal together. It is important to note that he is very picky. I suggested we try it, knowing that he does like hibachi chicken. Wow! We were so happy with our experience here and the meal. I've had sushi all over the world and I am a stickler for fish freshness. I enjoyed some of the best Yellowtail Sashimi that I have had anywhere, including Hawaii. My hibachi steak and shrimp was cooked to perfection and very tender. The fried rice was so light and not sticky at all. My fiancé... hasn't stopped talking about it yet. He wants our next family function dinner to be here and has already put the word out to my family. I was really looking forward to my leftovers...until my daughter discovered that we had gone without her. I offered her my leftovers last night and she, like us, could not stop raving about how delicious it was. We are all looking forward to becoming "regulars" here. read more

Nice to have some take out sushi close by. And it's also nice they have a mix of Chinese and Japanese food to order as well. The sweet potato maki roll is something I've never had before but it was very good. Their side of fried rice is awesome for the price and you can tell it was made fresh, not thy old hard brown looking fried rice you get at a lot of Chinese take out. I would not order the beef teriyaki again though. The menu said it came with 2 dipping sauces.. It only came with one. And for the price, 9$ you'd expect more than 4 skewers. I ended up with takeaway from here after forgetting exactly how time consuming real cooking is, particularly when there's a hungry child waiting. I'm always a little suspicious of non-run of the mill places when they turn up in Riverside. I don't think twice about trying new places in Providence, so there's my bias. They have a menu online. It leans a little more toward towards the American end of things (General Tso is definitely on the menu), there were some missing dishes that I'd consider standard Japanese fare (no donburi?), but they have udon and the sushi selection looked decent. Lack of donburi aside, there was udon to be had and have it we did! All my worries went right out the window. I opted for the stir-fried sort and was super pleased with the results. It reminded me of my favourite udon dish from the long-closed Danny's in Chinatown. To say it was a happy accident is a complete understatement! The only disappointing bit is that I have no leftovers for tomorrow. So why only three stars if I like the food so much? As I said above, the lack of staple dishes and a lack of knowledge of them. Don't let that stop you from going and seeing for yourself, though. If nothing else, have the udon. read more

I have been ordering sushi from here for the past 5 years and it is consistently delicious. I'm not a huge fan of their other food, although it is very good, it is a just a different style of American Chinese than what I prefer. If you like sushi, give them a try! read more

Second time there, previously on a recommendation. Great sushi once again, has yet to disappoint! I Recommend the tuna pizza, volcano roll, and flower roll. Can't remember the name of the roll pictured, but it's tuna in/tuna out- delish! Shashimi is very generous as well. Love the staff, very nice informative. It seems as if wherever you go to get sushi, there is always a rule where a workers little kid needs to be running around the resturant, this place is no exception to this rule. Bent forks and no chopsticks, rushed service but a long wait for the food. The sushi appetizer tuna dumping with cream cheese was good. Sushi was nicely presented but nothing tasted outstanding. All pretty bland. Eel was rubbery and slimy (coming from somebody who loves eel). Waitress was not attentive at all, and although we came at least 2 hours before closing it feels as if we came in ten minutes before. The sushi is the equivilant of fast food. read more

Best Japanese restaurant I've ever been to. Great food at great prices. I love the asian red curry they serve and their hot and sour soup is the greatest I have ever tasted. Great service and very well mannered. My usual experience when I go to other Japanese restaurants is the feelings of being looked down upon or being judged, but not at Yama Fuji. I can come to this restaurant and not feel like I must put up some upscale classy show about myself. I can actually have a casual dinner and place an order regarding my allergies and they take that into considerations and substitute it with something else. Not many asian restaurants do that. If you like duck, try the duck rolls. This place knows how to cook duck perfectly. read more

However, what really kills any Chinese/Asian restaurant is when a patron asks for hot mustard and what they get are this little clear plastic packets filled with beige god knows what. It wasn't hot. Would love to comment on the food. We sat at a table, and nice 3rd grade boy took our order. Over the next hour, we received one appetizer. Sushi was brought to tables around us and returned. The family next to us had a baby that probably would have lasted through a normal dinner, but the dad had to get up and leave after waiting at his table with no dinner for an hour too. Ordered delivery from this place last night. Got pad thai and it was just some third rate dish with no flavor that you would find at a cheap restaurant that specializes in crappy chinese food. Was pretty disappointed because this is rated so highly. If you want legit pad thai, this is not one of the places tk get it. My friend's general tsao tasted worst than at a food court. The miso soup also had no flavor and was bland. The hostess I talked to on the phone was very helpful and friendly, so its sad the food wasn't good. read more

Gave this spot a second try. It will likely be the last try as well. This time I tried the Mongolian beef, chicken fried rice and chicken and noodles. None of which of these items were very good. The beef had a funky smell to it, but didn't taste as bad as it smelled. The fried rice was probably the best of the items ordered, but that's not saying much. read more

I agree totally with Jaclyn P. It's hard to believe, but this is the best sushi within 20 miles of Providence. I eat here weekly. The fish is fresh and the rice is always good. As far as the environment goes, it is as cozy and elegant as it can be for a strip mall restaurant. It was not an easy decision to give Yama Fuji II two stars because up until our most recent order were have been very happy with the food and service. On our last visit, we decided to order take out. We live on the other side of town so it can take 30 minutes each way but we thought the food was worth the trip. When we arrived home, we found that we were not given our order correctly. We ordered three items, and two were correct, one was not. I immediately called the restaurant, hey, I understand mistakes happen, but it's how it was handled that was upsetting. I explained what had happened and requested a credit to our credit card. At first, I was asked to bring the item back and they would correct it. I do appreciate this, but it would have taken me about an hour, there and back and they would have had to replace the entire order otherwise the other food would be cold by the time we exchanged the item that was wrong. Next I was told they did not have the information from my card, which they had just charged, but I had also began by saying that I would be happy to give the information over the phone. Their solution was initially to offer a credit at our next visit. I told them I preferred to give them the credit card information now rather than pay for something we did not get (there was about a $4.00 difference in the cost of what we ordered and what we received). Finally, the restaurant agreed to credit our card but not after some convincing. We were not angry that the order was packaged wrong, errors happen but what left me feeling like an unvalued customer was that I had to push the issue to get the credit. In the end, they reversed the wrong amount and charged for the meal we received instead. What is unfortunate is we did not enjoy the meal that we received in error and will most likely not go back here again. Honestly, I would have thought that they would have offered to take the meal off our bill and give us the wrong meal at no cost. read more

Awesome! Just moved to the area and was so impressed with the freshness and quality of all of the food. Crab rangoons are very tastes, great portion size of Alaskan roll, Dance Tuna Roll was better than I imagined, Kani salad was perfect portion, chicken Thai curry noodles were on point if not better. We love this place!.... We 'discovered' it driving through the Riverside plaza one day, and we're glad we did. First, they deliver... which we are quite happy about, because not all sushi places do... especially in this area, so that is so convenient. The owner knows us well (from ordering takeout so often) that he even gives us little 'extra' items in our takeout bags.. we love that! Very nice touch for those who support your restaurant.... The food is pretty straightforward Japanese/Asian faire.. The sweet potato salad is delicious, all the specialty sushi rolls are great, too. We haven't had anything yet that we didn't like. The restaurant is very clean and pretty inside... it's a small place, so don't bring a big party in there... but all in all, we are so glad they set up shop in Riverside... great little place! read more

The Barrington roll was delicious but we were told the order (more than just that roll) would take 20 minutes so we got there about 25 minutes after we got there and continued to wait another 20 minutes with no seating in a tight doorway. The sushi was not anything spectacular and they did not even apologize for the wait (there were 2 families dining inside and that was it). read more

Must be under new ownership or different recipes because the crab Rangoon's were totally different and over cooked lacking any filling on the inside. the shrimp fried rice was sticky and not at all fried, the egg rolls were literally dripping in oil and the sushi was okay but nothing spectacular. Really fell lack luster for me and I always order from them. Something is DEFINITELY different. HUGE disappointment, I do not recommend. read more

Sadly this place continues to go downhill. It is too inconsistent and I have officially tossed their menu. We used to enjoy their appetizers and their standard Chinese takeout fare. However they have now forgotten our delivery order three times - having to call back after an hour, after being told it would be 30 minutes, and then being told it would be another 15 minutes... when that happened tonight the person answering the phone was rude and confused. When the delivery arrived the person had no change, so left the food and then came back to get payment. Only after that did I try the food, dumplings and soup, and both were nearly inedible. The dumplings should have been fried but seem to be microwaved, and the soup was so salty I could not eat it (and I love salt). I am giving it two stars as it was our go to for years, with there being so little good Asian food in this area. I just hope they can turn it around read more

Pleasantly surprised! The sushi was fresh and delicious with beautiful presentation. I'm a sushi snob and I was impressed! My kids split the shrimp hibachi, which was pretty good. The sauce on the shrimp and vegetables was a little too sweet and sticky for my taste. They were kind enough to split the full meal for the kids (not everywhere will do this without an extra charge). I had been coming here consistently for about a year up until recently. Their food is great, but the service is terrible. I ordered the same thing, two tuna avocado rolls, for pick up almost every time. The first time I ordered it, I picked up only two avocado rolls with no tuna. Naturally, they corrected my order and I went back to pick it up, since I didn't realize until I got home. The next time I ordered from them I was very clear when I was speaking into the phone to make sure the woman taking my order understood I wanted two TUNA avocado rolls. Somehow, when I arrived (I checked my order in the restaurant this time) my order was two avocado rolls lacking the tuna yet again. This happened one more time, after the two other times. Making this three times in a row that my order had been messed up (within a span of a couple months). So, I took a break from pick up orders and since my family regularly eats here that didn't seem like a bad idea. We go to the restaurant with our visiting family friends to eat and it was absolutely some of the worst service ever. She didn't give us any water, was non attentive to the table due to the fact that she was the waitress, hostess, and was helping in then kitchen. My family noticed the bad serviced started occurring after a couple of the waitresses who worked their prior to this particular dining experience stopped working there. It seemed that every time we went in there was a different waitress, as well. Anyways, after that dining experience my boyfriend and I decided to order there one more time. It was pouring rain and flash flood warning, so it was hazardous to drive. At this point, they know my face at Yama Fuji II because I had gone in there very often for dinner and pick ups and such. My order was a valentine roll and a tuna avocado roll and my boyfriend ordered hibachi. I walked in, said I was picking up, gave her my card, signed the receipt, she placed a bag on the counter near me and I asked her before leaving (she was on the phone) if everything was in the bag. She said yes. I get home, and the almost $30 of sushi wasn't in the bag. I called her and asked her to comp my meal because this was the fourth time she had messed up my order for whatever reason and as a loyal customer who had stuck through several encounters of bad service I felt it was a just request, she refused to comp the meal, as she was laughing thinking it was funny and not a big deal, and I respectfully asked for my money back and she chose to give me my money back, not let me keep the food, and I left. Had she let me keep the food, I would absolutely have gone back there to eat and forgiven the situation, but the weather conditions were horrible and this was the FOURTH time my pick up order had been messed up. I find this unacceptable and will not be giving them my business anymore. read more
