Yang Chow is one of the most highly rated restaurants in Chinatown. It gets busy for lunch. You can call ahead for a reservation, but they may not seat you until your whole party has arrived. I have a friend who is always late for everything. We all have a friend like this. Great guy, but always late! We agreed to meet at the restaurant at 12. I'm very punctual nowadays. I arrived early and check in on the wait time for a table. I informed the restaurant I would need a table for 2 at 12. They said no need to make a reservation as there would be tables open. This is during the week on a Monday. My friend got lost exiting the intersection. I went in to the restaurant to get a table before he came. They said I had to wait until the whole party arrived which was very annoying because they said no need to wait beforehand. Luckily for us, a table opened up. We didn't wait very long. I wasn't sure if this experience would affect my taste of the food. Whenever, you are rubbed the wrong way. It can sometimes affect your meal. Not the case here! The service was extremely attentive. My uncle took my wife and I to yang chow for my bday and it was my first time. All I can say is bomb food the best ever. They have valet parking, which makes it easy to park, but it's hard to get in because it's one way in and one way out so the parking is the only downfall trying to get in but the food being so good. The service was efficient and friendly enough. You can tell they cater mostly to tourists as there were no chopsticks and aside from the staff I was the only Asian lol. (I did ask for chopsticks and hot sauce). We ordered the steamed dumplings which were really really good. Came out hot and served with a soy vinegar ginger sauce. The real draw for Yang Chow is their signature Slippery Shrimp. The shrimp is deep-fried to perfection and tossed in secret garlic, ginger, cayenne, and ketchup sauce. The result is something unique that is crispy and quite tasty. The menu is very Chinese-American as it doesn't offer the more popular rice noodles (chow fun) or pan fried noodles (Hong Kong style chow mein). We ended up ordering their chicken lo mein which is the only version of chow mein they serve, and the fish fillet in garlic sauce. Both were very flavorful and not at all oily. Yang Chow also has a full bar and their cocktails were surprisingly very good with the perfect alcohol to mix ratio. Service was attentive, welcoming and very friendly.
