I was recently at this location for a friends birthday. First of all, it definitely was our mistake for not making reservations on a Friday night. We did have a large party and I understand it'd be a little longer to have us seated, but the communication between management & his hosts was horrible, we were given the run around and we were told it would be 1 hr & 45 min to get us sat. We had already been waiting 45 min prior. Once we talked to a manger we were sat within 10 minutes. Needless to say their hosts' were not the brightest. Once we were sat & got drinks we were happy, our two lady servers were great, one being Jen, not sure who the other was. We ordered our food, I got the ribeye, rare to med rare. It came out more med well to well. Gross. I didn't eat it. The green beans were great but the mashed potatoes were extremely dry. I'll probably only go back for the beer selection. read more

This particular location is awesome. They have a general manager that I see I think every time I go. He is always so kind and courteous to everyone. My great niece just came from a competition and had a medal. (she's a 7 year old) Not only did he take time to say hi and ask how everything is, he made her feel so special. He congratulated her on her metal and gave her a free desert of her choosing. I have had so many gatherings here, and have brought the office here in the past and time and time again the service is outstanding. The food is also amazing, I love the pepper crusted gorgonzola burger, or the Country fried steak, extra side of gravy, the California roll is delicious. Not your normal Cali roll, they are always really good and letting you know too. The jerk Chicken wings are good, Garlic noodles, the spinach dip is delicious. My favorite for desert is the Chocolate soufle! No one can beat it! It's just heaven!!!! My cousin loves the creme brûlée here as well! But seriously a huge shout out to the general manager, if you go here you most likely will meet him, he's always on the floor setting an awesome example and getting to know his customers. Went here this memorial weekend on a Monday night... When you walk in, there is a large front desk, it was my first time here. So my party & I walk in & I see two people talking to the what looked like a host behind the counter. They were done and walked away, so I walked up to her with a smile & waited for her to greet me & ask how many.. Well she looked at me & looked back to her monitor & never said a word.. So I'm standing like... Hmmm? Ok? Maybe I'm in the wrong spot? Then a couple comes in and stands behind me, a young lady walks up & starts using the other computer, and looks up & says hi how may I help you? The couple walks right up & she seats them.. So basically I was completely ignored and then bumped in line.. Without a sorry, or how about a simple.. "Hi how can we help you?, let me get a host to seat you!" Terrible service.. Anyway. so i went with my friends on a friday night around 9:30. i brought my starbucks drink, knowing that i would have to wait for a table and that i would finish it before we were even seated. the hostess were nice but there was this one guy there that was kind of rude, informing me that i should finish my coffee before i step in again. DUH i know that, i didn't really like how he said it and i don't recall a sign outside stating no outside food or beverages. anyways, we waited around 30 minutes max for a table. the waitress was nice then we had a waiter, he was also nice. the food was decent, not worth the wait nor the price though. yes, yardhouse is known for the bar and all. they forgot our wings so it was on the house, that was a + for them. overall, i don't know if i would come back, i prefer BJs since it's worth the money for food. read more

I've gone to a few different YardHouse locations and this was the first time I came to the Costa Mesa one. We went to this location to get a certain beer they served. We got there, got sat right away and they had the beer we were looking for. We ordered an appetizer and as we opened our napkins we found food still stuck on both sets of silverware. We ordered our beer and someone other than our server bring it to us and it had something floating in one our drinks. We asked if the drink was supposed to have that and the server, Meredith, said, "no sorry that's disgusting" she brought us another one that was clear. Then we got our food, one was the grilled artichoke and half was burnt to the point where as you pulled the leaf away it crumbled in your fingers. We couldn't even finish it. Then when we were ready to order a second drink we had to flag down a different server to get ours. It was pretty pathetic the follow up by our server. In the 3 hours we were there we had 3 drinks and barely any service. We still wanted to tip appropriately to the poor service but decent because we know servers get shafted. So we gave just under 20% and as we walked away from the table the server didn't even say thank you or have a good night, nothing. Hopefully next time our server has a better night. She was complaining to the 2 guys at the table next to us that she was working a double tonight and had to be back tomorrow for another double due to football starting... read more

I think everyone enjoys the happy hour at the Yard House. I stopped in early waiting for my movie to start at the theater next door. Their selection of beers isn't as good as it once was, but I was there to sample some of the appetizers on special at half price. I tried the fried calamari and it was really good. The batter they use is super light, crispy and flavorful. They also offer traditional buffalo wings that are fried and tossed in buffalo hot sauce. I asked my server if they could make me an order of the wings using that batter from the calamari and served plain, tossed in no sauce. He asked the kitchen and told me they could do that. What I got were delectable crispy and flavorful wings. The only thing that would have made them better is a nice apricot sauce to dip them in. They instantly reminded me of the wings that you get at Hamburger Hamlet. The service was super friendly and awesome. The staff really does an outstanding job and kudos to them for accommodating me on my request. I'll definitely be back for those again. read more

Ok I've been here twice and I must say I'm happy with the service I've received so far. Right when you walk in you get greeted which is a plus coming from retail background. I'm a big person when it comes to customer service. With that being said, we get seated and right away asked what we would like to drink and the server goes and comes back. Shorty after our waiter comes and asks us if we need time or any suggestions. We place our order she comes by to let us know if we need refills or anything else. Mind you she always with a smile. Finally our food is here yayyy cause I'm hungry. Then my Mac and cheese plate looks like it was burned a bit much I ask for the waitress I tell her my problem she removes the plate and said she I'm sorry let me get this fixed. Right after that the manager comes and asked what happened I explained he says we are sorry we will get it for you. I went to this place for the first time on Saturday, September 21 at around 9ish to celebrate by friends birthday. We were a party of 12 and were seated immediately. The problem started when the girl who was giving us our coasters began just tossing them on the table haphazardly. That was the first thing that annoyed me. Next our waiter took our drink order. I ordered ginger ale, and some of my party had beer and even some shots. everyone got their drink, except for me. it took 20 minutes for me to get my drink and that was after having to remind our server. one of the guys in my party got a pint of beer but they brought him a yard. when he explained that he asked for a pint the server said to the girl bringing the drinks that he had ordered a yard "but whatever." we all placed our food order and my boyfriend and I decided to share some sliders and chicken nachos. when we got our food I asked our server for some ranch for my fries. 10 minutes passed and no ranch. my cousin had to remind our server and it still took another 10 minutes to get it. I'm so used to having servers come by at the end and offer dessert that I was so surprised when he just brought us our check left. One thing I did like was that the check was split by guest order. that was probably the only positive thing. and frankly, the food wasnt all that great. AND it made both me and my boyfriend sick. I went yesterday for the first time with my kids and extended family. Heard so much about Yard House over the years and was excited to try it. It was awful! Servers didn't seem happy to even be there. Sad. Ordered drinks and it took forever. Ordered food and it took even longer. One person ordered a sandwich with no mayo. Of course there was lots of mayo on it. It looked as though they just threw entrees on the plate and brought it out. Nothing looked appetizing. The menu is excellent and makes you hungry, like Cheesecake Factory but the food is actually just mediocre. I had the two street tacos and my friend got the Parmesan crusted chicken which was basically chicken strips with mushroom Sauce on it. The reason for the 3 stars is they forgot my appetizer but they did comp it when I brought it to their attention when I was half way done with my entree. Also, four different servers tried bringing us four different tables meals- the other tables and us chuckled at how disorganized they are. We just left here. We are at Saddle Ranch right next to them now. We arrived at The Yardhouse and we're not greeted by the multitude of employees and hosts at the front. Shelby the host at the front had a scowl on her face as I asked, "Shelby, are your high top tables by the Bar available to sit at our are they reserved?" Her eyes barely came up to waste time on me at her podium. "Yes those are." And back down her eyes went to her podium. Not a, "let me put your name down for one" or "I'll be right with you". Not even a basic "welcome to The Yardhouse!" Shelby needs to get a job she likes......... We have always had wonderful service here, but this time we couldn't even get by the restaurants first impression of its self.....the front desk. Too bad. We were warmly greeted by several employees who were genuinely happy to see us at Saddle Ranch! It's not the food....it's the service that really counts. Fantastic service. I was with a party of five, all from out of town, and we really wanted to enjoy the evening by having dinner outside. They graciously opened up a part of the outside area that had not been opened. The attention from staff throughout the meal was top notch. When a salad had to be sent back because it included nuts which my friend could not eat, they took it quickly and without any problem. The manager then stopped by to make sure everything was OK. The food surprised me. I was not expecting a lot--but the kale salad was very good and the steak sandwich was outstanding. Our entire party enjoyed all the dishes we ordered, and the beer selection was obviously vast. A good experience. read more

Awesome spacious place with plenty of parking (can't remember if they validated or not but wasn't a big deal). It's a bar/restaurant in the plaza. The waitress was very friendly with helpful suggestions. We ended up getting a pizza, California roll and another dish that I don't remember. The California roll is out of this world! Ordered it twice and wish we could take a few home! It's different than the traditional California roll at a sushi place but absolutely loved it! Very tasty! Couldn't get enough of it. The pizza was delicious too! The portions are big and I think most of them can be shared between two people. I went late in the afternoon so the place and the plaza weren't busy but I think even with a crowd coming and going it would still be a fun place to hang out and have some tasty meals. Love this place! It is fun, upbeat, great selection of food, great selection of beer, and excellent, prompt service. We discovered this place by accident our first evening in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa and loved it so much, we came again the second night of our stay. First, we were very impressed by the beers on tap. The selection was overwhelming, but the bartender did an excellent job in helping us choose a beer we would enjoy. The food was excellent too - cooked to perfection and seasoned in a very health-conscious way (not oily and not overly salty, as is typically a problem in these types of restaurants). Being new to the area, this Yard House is pretty close home. We come here for the late HH because it's one of the best around. We always sit at the bar top and share some HH items and have a beer or two. Overall, the food is consistent as far as portions and taste. The service however, can fluctuate. Last night however was on the slower side. When we walked in we noticed three groups of two around us with menus so we knew everyone had just got their for HH. Took us about five minutes to be greeted because there were so many people that sat down. We were also never checked back on until we were completely done with our food even though a bartender passed us a few times. Not horrible, just missing that extra "wow" factor. This one time didn't ruin it for us, since we have been there a handful of times now in the past few months but maybe extra help in the bar when HH hits could of prevented the neglect. I was a first timer at the Yardhouse in triangle square, conveniently located down the street from my house. I figured I could catch some lunch with my cousin before a movie. I was automatically greeted by the hostess, very friendly gal, and considerate of the seating arrangements. Considering it was a table for two, it wasn't too bad. A waitress came by right away and I ordered to cherry coke beverages. They tasted like watered-down, armpit sweat, no-good drinks! I was disgusted! Don't even get me started on the food. I nearly ended with food poisoning due to the awful cheese with which my grilled cheese with roasted tomatoes sandwich was created. I wanted to throw everything back up, it was gross! I figured I could accompany the sandwich with some ranch and it tasted like it's been out for days! The waitress never bothered to check on our food a single time throughout the course of my time there. Every time I called for her to come back out to request the bill, she was completely out of it and instead gossiped with her coworkers. Are you kidding me?! As if that wasn't bad enough, when I mentioned the discomfort in my stomach as she questioned why I didn't finish my food, she expressed fake sympathy and proceeded to check if I'd left any tip money inside the book and just turned and walked away without saying a single word. Wow! She then came back as she'd over heard what I had said and said her manager sent her to tell me that as long as I made no complaints, they wouldn't charge me for my food. Gee thanks, that sounds lovely. I felt very out of place and judged. Not to mention, my stomach still hurts and the management there sucks! At one point our favorite table became available and we requested it and she gave it to a smaller 4 top instead of honoring our request. When we finally got sat, I heard her basically talking rudely about us to a male host. Luckily Megan came in right away and basically saved the day. Why would you do that, it's like the giant box of crackers 1/4 filled. And the carrots were huge and not cooked, giant pieces of really gamey turkey - skin and fat still on !!!!!!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaah.. My mother buys the kids the 6 pack of Marie Callendar frozen chicken pot pies (and they are yummy when gramma cooks them in the oven) for less than one yucky one at the Yardhouse.
