What a spectacular place to have dinner and celebrate special events. Came here for our five year dating anniversary and left engaged! The staff were phenomenal, very detail-oriented and really catered to our table. L3 is the best seat in the house! The Ribeye literally melted in our mouths and the ahi tuna tasted fresh. Definitely recommend the Conch Fritters! Probably the best in the area! The staff got the whole event on video and took amazing photos. We were so excited and wrapped up with our engagement that a couple celebrating their anniversary paid for our dinner and vanished shortly thereafter. This was an excellent restaurant . Lots of bonuses besides the food being delicious. Sitting outside by the river...They have valet parking and everyone was extremely nice. We ate on the lunch menu and I had Mahi which was the best I have had. My wife had the cod sandwich with 2 sides which she said was very good. I called in for reservations to be on the safe side. It took us only 45 minutes to get there from Indian River Shores which is a nice ride on US1 driving along side the river. We will certainly be back. Waitress was great. read more

This is an over-priced restaurant-with-a-gimmick that caters to snobs and local celebrities (most of which are not bright enough to realize the $40 dollar wine is less than $10 at an ABC liquor store). The food--while very expensive--is nothing special and the service depends on how important the staff think that you are. If you aren't the king of the county, be prepared to wait until the end of time. If you are a pretentious stiff-neck that needs your ego pampered by obsequious waiters that serve mediocre food, this is for you. Otherwise, go to a real restaurant. Yellow Dog Cafe- Malabar, FL- 4 Stars Nestled up to the Indian River in Malabar sits the local icon, Yellow Dog Cafe. A staple of the Malabar area for 23 years and counting. One has to wonder what these walls would say if they could talk. I have been here before but wanted to do a post-Covid redo to see how they pulled through the lockdown. Upon entering I noticed it was still the same cheerful place with stunning views all around. After being lead to a table and given menus, I continued to be in awe of the view and realized I had been lax in perusing the menu and so got right to work. As one can see from the pictures, it certainly had great depth for a lunch menu. Our server soon appeared and introduced herself as Shalli. Remember what I said recently about wait staff with sour attitudes (you want to eat there)? Well, Shalli certainly had "I don't want to be here" airs coming off as she took our order. I placed an order for the Homemade Potato Chips Appetizer along with one of the Escargot variety and the Lunch Special of the day, the Beef Tenderloin. The unsweetened tea was from a fountain, so that was a hard pass from me. We are in Florida, people. Make fresh tea! The Potato chips were made fresh to order and came with a delectably luscious bleu cheese dip that was both creamy and tangy. The Escargot was in a homemade pastry puff that was a delight on the palate while the Escargot were tender, lemony and buttery. I am always hesitant to order specials as I assume the protein is leftover from the previous evening. As soon as Shalli set it down and I took one glance at it I just knew it wasn't going to be good. Well, as we all know, looks can be deceiving and this was amazingly flavorful and well seasoned. The beef was firm and coarse as it rumbled around my palate. This was more comfort food than "fine" dining, and that's OK in my book. The Escargot was hands down the best I ever had and while the potato chips were 5 stars I found the entree to be only 3 stars, hence the 4-star overall rating. Stuart and Nancy Borton are the owners here and they have never, ever skimped on quality. I may have had a 4-star experience today, but I know this is a 5 -star all-day everyday kind of place. I would try to sit outside and enjoy the sunset on the water next time I go back! 10/10 would recommend the sangria-- it's house made and was a great size. I didn't love the spinach dip as an appetizer, as it was slightly greasy and came with generic bag tortilla chips. However, the onion crusted chicken was amazing and unlike anything I've had before! It was essentially eating chicken coated in an onion ring! The dessert selection was great as well, and we got the chocolate bone. Went to dinner Friday evening. We both ordered the meatloaf. We watched our waitress Simone bring our dinners to another table, both dinners were place in front of the other guest. The gentleman immediately said that was not his dinner. Simone took the dinner that was in front of him back to the kitchen. A couple minutes later she came back to get the other dinner that was place in front of the young lady. Simone went back to the kitchen where she picked up the other meatloaf dinner and brought both dinners to our table. I politely said that I did not want those dinners that were placed in front of someone else. She lied right to my face and told me that they were new dinners after we watched everything in the kitchen. When I got home, I called to speak to the manager, and she said that she would look at her cameras and give me a call back. I later learned that I was correct 100%, because a neighbor that works there confirmed it. Simone was very unprofessional and basically called us liars, she was in fact the liar! Shame on her and the kitchen staff for allowing this! As for the manager I'm sure if she takes a peak at her cameras she will see a lot of unacceptable behavior! read more

My husband and I stopped in on an early Sunday lunch expedition. We were seated immediately by friendly staff. Our waitress was thorough, thoughtful and quick. I greatly enjoyed my filet with bacon blue butter and tried their new watermelon salad.. delicious. I was at the Yellow Dog Cafe for my mother's 80th birthday dinner with 8 guests in total. Reservations were made in advance as well as ordering a birthday cake which was ordered and prepaid at the time of booking. With much anticipation of dinning here based on so many positive reviews I couldn't wait to try it out for myself. Years of visiting my family in the local area, the time had finally come and I was excited to finally have the dinning experience of the Yellow Dog Cafe. Once on the premise, we were greeted by the very friendly and hospitable valet attendants. Upon entering, hostess whisked us downstairs to the mid level where we met up with the rest of the party sitting at a table with a great view off the river. However it came at a cost of being next to the bathrooms. Our waitress did a great job attending to our minimal needs and highly praise her service. I had a raspberry lemon drop martini which was decadent. Warm homemade bread was delivered to the table to everyone's delight. This is where it all ended. I had the mushroom bacon soup for a starter. I have to be fair, I did like the texture and the attempt, I wish there were bits of mushroom and bacon but that might be personal preference. I didn't get any essence of bacon. My main entre was Ceaser Salad with grilled chicken. Romain was crisp as crisp can be but the dressing lacked any presence of tang so it came across as a creamy ranch texture minus the ranch, it fell flat. The chicken was cold and dry. For the price point I kind of expected a hot, moist piece of breast not cold, dry pieces of breast. The birthday girl herself had a salad and added grilled portobello mushroom atop her salad. To her dismay, the mushroom was cold. When reading grilled portobello mushroom it leaves one to think a hot, freshly grilled portobello mushroom would lay atop the field of greens. My mother made it know the mushroom was unacceptable. I myself said nothing to minimize any negativity. I later found out there were other issues with people's meals which drove me to write this review also to spare a review from the burned birthday girl. Thats how she feels. Having 7 guests, 4 from out of state and the disappointment that ensued. 6 out of the 8 meals were sub par: My aunt had the chicken dish which she said was dry. My uncle had the stuff porkchop and said it was dry. My brother had the meatloaf and said it had some weird crusted texture to it. My other aunt liked her meatloaf entre. My other brother liked his salmon entre. My father had the seared tuna and it was laiden with too much peppercorn which he cut off; said the tuna itself was good. The waitress asked if we wanted to see their dessert board and my father mentioned he ordered a cake. I wasn't there to witness as I stepped outside for a smoke, but my brother came out to tell me they never made my mom's 80th birthday cake which prepayment was required 3 weeks prior. I had asked if management came down to take care of the situation which they did so I give establishment credit for that instead of the waitress having to carry the burden. They gave us dessert on the house and refunded the prepaid birthday cake but my father said the refund was less than what he paid. We're common folk that don't put up a fuss BUT we know good food. With all the reviews and the price point I really wanted to like this place but it fell flat, really flat. Such a disappointment. I'm baffled by the many positive reviews. Sad to say my mother's 80th birthday dinner was pretty much ruined with mediocre food that was either dry, cold and or other and a big disappointment with the birthday cake being forgotten. I don't think I could ever nor would ever recommend the Yellow Dog. read more

We've been to YD several times over the years, but last week was the worst experience. My parent's 66th anniversary was the celebration. The server congratulated me on my birthday, calling me another name, clearly mixing our table with another. I called to discuss the occasion when making reservations. Of the 7 of us, 5 did NOT like their food. Both 16oz steaks (@ $58/order) were very undercooked. Duck was dried out/overcooked. 1/2 rack of lamb was a messily portion. What an overall let down considering the expense and reputation of YD. The server never came to check on us after food was served, until desert was offered. Granted she was busy. So we couldn't send the steaks back to get properly cooked. Even the valet parking was messed up. When I got back in my 2024 BMW, the electronic dashboard configuration and drive mode was completely changed. Why the hell would they do that, unless playing around with it? There are too many REAL gourmet restaurants around to try YD again. My $600 was about a complete waste, not to mention the damper put on the parents celebration. The Dog is DEAD! Oh, the bread was great! $17 martinis good too, but could have bought an entire bottle for that price! read more

I went to Yellow Dog for a rehearsal dinner and everything about it was excellent. The view was beautiful, the food was amazing and the service was great. They have inside or outdoor seating, the outdoor seating is right on the water. My only complaint is that their beer selection kind of sucks, otherwise everything else was impeccable. I get that it's a little bit classier of a place but people drink beer! No draft beer at all and a very small selection. Ok, im done complaining, now onto the food! We got the raspberry salad which had kidney beans, feta cheese, pumpkin seeds and a raspberry dressing. It was really good, the kidney beans were a nice change from the regular salad combos. Our selections for entrees were filet mignon, pecan crusted cod, potato crusted salmon or onion crusted chicken. I just realized they like to "crust" things, lol. I had a hard time deciding because everything sounded so great but I ended up going with the salmon. The salmon had "crispy potatoes" on top which basically looked like a thin layer of hash browns that were fried crispy. They were a great compliment and combo of texture in comparison to the fish. The sauce that accompanied it was a lobster saffron sauce and honestly that was what sealed the deal for me when making my final decision. It also came with a risotto cake and asparagus, everything was divine. Our table got a variety of everything, all the entrees looked so good and the portions were huge! The filet was 8 oz! I feel like that never happens! For desserts were a brownie that was shaped like a dog bone (so cute!) or a cheesecake with strawberries on top. Both desserts came with a little "waffle cone" dog on it, I loved that little detail. This place is so great, we were all blown away by our experience. I will definitely remember it if I'm out that way and looking for a nice dinner spot. read more

Just to start off I have a hard time trying to figure out whether this review would be a 3 or 4 star review but I decided that to good out weighted the bad. My parents spoke very highly of Yellow Dog so we had to check them out when we were in town. We called ahead to get a table day of (I would suggest calling a day early we just got lucky). Our waiter quickly came to the table and got us water. We then ordered drink. I went with and Old Fashioned with Buffalo Trace. Bread and drinks then came. The bread was very good but my Old Fashioned was a let down. I didn't have a very strong taste of bourbon more so just simple syrup and orange which was a let down. When looking over the menu we saw they had a special menu called "The Dog Days of Summer" menu which for $40 came with an appetizer, salad, entree and desert we I decided to order that. I went with the Crab Bisque for my appetizer, House Salad, 6 oz Filet Mignon, and Crème Brûlée for desert. I know what a great deal!!! The Crab Bisque was amazing. Filled with crab in every bite. I highly recommend it. I also tried the Blue Cheese Chips which are apart of the deal too and they were amazing as well. The serving size was that of a shareable appetizer too! Next came our salads. I asked for my House salad without kidney beans and that's how it came. Topped with Feta Cheese and I light lemon vinaigrette made for a perfect summer salad. Next was my Filet with a Bordeaux demi-glace which I had cooked medium rare. I came with mashed potato's and green beans. My Filet was cooked well and looked bigger then 6oz ounces. The only issue was the amount of demi-glace on it. It really took away from the flavor of the Filet and made it too salty. Ashley got hers with the Bacon Bleu Cheese Butter which was better and didn't take away from the flavor of the meat. For desert they bring out a display of all their options that night. I planned it safe and went with the Crème Brûlée. I was good but wish I had taken the risk of the Mango Cheese which I had a bite of and it was amazing. All and all good experience with a few hiccups some of which were on me but we will for sure be coming back! read more

This deceptively modest Roadside, Riverside restaurant with a humble sounding name is in fact exceptionally well run, large elevated dining experience. From the courteous valet parking attendant to the hostess to the super professional well-informed and informative waiters and waitresses, to the interesting, varied menu, this place is well run. The food is delicious and the view is beautiful owing to it being situated directly on the wide Indian River Lagoon. What you don't realize from the road is that this building has a huge lower level, indoor and out, and seats quite a few people. The food choices or what we used to call Continental cuisine, sometimes dismissively. Not so fast. Here, one is reminded why these were classic choices in the first place. The duck is delicious. The scallops are delicious. The crab bisque is exceptional, as are the shrimp and grits. The Seabass and the salmon are each prepared differently and beautifully. Everyone was happy with their choices, and with six of us celebrating an early Mother's Day, there were a lot of forks being passed around to try and taste the different dishes. This place would be successful anywhere and is a truly serendipitous fine in the sleepy south end of Brevard County. read more

We set downstairs overlooking the Indian River with an open-air back porch with a gentle breeze. The tables were sectioned apart for social distancing and weren't too crowded. The sitting area was nice and was very pleasant in decor. I had Crab Bisque, Caesar Salad, Baked Cod with Green Beans/Mushrooms, and Coconut cream dessert. The presentation of the food was top notch and the taste was very good. This is one of the best restaurants on the east coast of the Gold Coast. Valet parking is included. read more
