Wow, this place is extremely popular. The lines move very quickly, but there's nowhere to sit unless you're lucky, or maybe if you come early. They have two section - one is more comfy/relaxed than the other. The other side = cafe style tables. Both sides were packed with people. I did want to get something light to eat, but chose not to because of the seating situation. I ended up getting the Moroccan mint ice tea as per recommended by the cashier. It was minty and very refreshing.
I've only been here before to grab a hot tea when I was sick, but I've heard so many great things about Yellow that I was excited to finally come back for breakfast with my friend. I ordered the peanut latte and potatoes, and both were AMAZING! I honestly wish they gave you more potatoes because they were that good. My friend ordered the hummus, which he really enjoyed because he always gets it whenever he comes here. When we arrived, the line wasn't too long, but the tables were pretty full. We were able to find seats outside and eventually grabbed a table inside. The cashier was super nice and friendly while taking our order. The woman bringing food out to the tables was also such a sweetheart and always had a smile on her face. Yellow has both indoor and outdoor seating, and I really enjoyed the cute, cozy vibe inside. I also noticed that the tables were cleaned promptly as guests left, which I always appreciate. Overall, I had a great experience and can definitely see why I've heard so many good things about Yellow. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu!
Why'd it take me so long to visit this place?! It's awesome! Service was fast and friendly Great seating options and a good spot for remote work (a bit loud so noise cancelling headphones recommended) Fun latte selections I tried the BAKLAWA MOCHA with oat milk. It wasn't too sweet and held a perfect blend of walnut, rose, and orange bloom. Very creamy and enjoyable There is also a great selection of savory bites, sandwiches, and pastries I decided to try the SFEEHA and that was soooooooo good! The flavors were nothing short of delectable Can't wait to return!
Yellow continues to live up to the hype. I stopped in for the skillet with lamb and a croissant sandwich, and both were excellent. The skillet was packed with flavor the lamb was tender, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the other ingredients without feeling too heavy. Every bite had a great balance of savory spices and freshness. The croissant sandwich was equally impressive. The croissant itself was buttery, flaky, and clearly made with care, while the filling was rich and satisfying without overwhelming the pastry. What stands out about Yellow is how they blend Middle Eastern flavors with exceptional pastry technique. The food feels thoughtful and unique, but still approachable. The atmosphere is bright and inviting, and even when it's busy, the quality of the food makes the wait worthwhile.
We had already eaten so we just tried pita and hummus and it was stilll AMAZING. The worker there too was so sweet and asked my name and then later on remembered my name when we got icecream. The icecream was so soft and creamy. It was packed, even at 2pm on a Monday, but I would definitely go back.
- flank steak pita has lots of tangy and savory sauce and aromatics and has LOTS of meat - assembly of pita is really awkward to eat since sauce and veggies are all at the bottom but meat is all at the top - cafe gets super packed and it can be overwhelming esp bc everyone just stands around waiting to pick up their order. line moves quickly though - orange blossom croissant it has a light citric taste through out and a nice light glaze - rose strawberry cruffin is light fluffy and has a delicious sweet light tangy filling - dalgona latte doesn't have any flavor but coconut cream is good
Quantum. call me Ishmael Call me famished. Some hours ago--never mind how long precisely--having little or no provisions in the pantry, and nothing particular to interest me at home, I thought I would stroll about Georgetown and see the Levantine offerings of the city. It is a way I have of driving off the spleen and regulating the digestion. Whenever I find myself growing grim about the mouth; whenever it is a damp, drizzly November in my soul; whenever I find myself involuntarily pausing before mediocre sandwich shops, and bringing up the rear of every uninspired lunch line; and especially whenever my hunger gets such an upper hand of me, that it requires a strong moral principle to prevent me from deliberately stepping into the street, and methodically knocking people's hats off--then, I account it high time to get to Yellow as soon as I can. This is my substitute for pistol and ball. With a philosophical flourish Cato throws himself upon his sword; I quietly take to the cafe. There is nothing surprising in this. If they but knew it, almost all men in their degree, some time or other, cherish very nearly the same maritime longing towards a perfectly wood-fired pita. Stand at the counter of Yellow, your eyes fixed upon that golden, puffy vessel, blistered from the hearth. Why did the old Persians hold the sea holy? Why did the Greeks give it a separate deity? I found my answer when I plunged into the hummus--a swirling, creamy expanse of whipped chickpea, earthy za'atar, and rich sesame. As every one knows, meditation and tahini are wedded for ever. The pita, warm and impossibly soft, served as my vessel, navigating the golden pools of olive oil just as a Nantucket ship cuts through the Atlantic. There is magic in that dough, pulling you away from the shore of the mundane and into a deeper, richer abyss of flavor. If you are feeling a damp drizzle in your soul, do not take to the sea to drive off the spleen. Take to Yellow. Five stars.
Great, fresh Levantine food. We (vegan and meat eating patrons) visited in the afternoon and ordered the veggie pita and steak pita. The guy helping us suggested the steak although the chicken was their most popular. The steak was very tender and flavorful. I heard the veggie pita also had great flavor. To drink we had the hibiscus lemonade and the mint iced tea with coconut foam. The lemonade was refreshing and definitely a unique menu item, but it left me wishing I had ordered an iced coffee. Service was fast and friendly. It's counter service and you can take a number to dine in--though there's limited indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance is an air conditioned shop with nice natural lighting near Georgetown with plenty of shops to wander to nearby. They also have merch--like a Habibi bucket hat--that you can purchase to capture the vibe.
Yellows hype is so well-deserved. I usually don't reach for lamb but the meat in the lamb pita was tender and flavorful, though I wasn't a fan of the meat to sauce/veggie ratio until about halfway through the pita. Iced peanut dalgona was very light and peanut flavor was pleasantly subtle. Shata batata was phenomenal-- crispy, warm, and super well-seasoned with zaatar among others.
Breakfast pita was super yummy! I honestly was expecting double the portion based on the cost, so was a bit shocked to see only half the pita. After getting over that initial disappointment, the taste was great and offered a great deal of flavor. The labneh soft serve is fantastic. The addition of EVOO, sea salt and pomegranate drizzle was a great touch to the already flavorful and tart base. Also felt very refreshing on a sunny day.
Came here with a friend to do some work in a different setting. Definitely super crowded and can get very loud indoors. There's a lot of seating indoors but can be a little hard if you're looking for a quieter atmosphere. They also have a couple of seats outdoors. The pastries were almost barren/nearly sold out, but definitely saw and have had previously the chicken shawarma pita sandwich which was delicious! This time I ordered the Halawa Honey which was a bit too sweet, but it was a nice twist of flavor and you could taste the tahini. My friend ordered the Baklawa Mocha which was a little too icy and I felt had too much milk. It drowned out the other flavors which was a bit disappointing.
So honestly, this review is a little strange to write, as I went on the night (unbeknownst to all of us) that Yellow was doing their final "pizza" service for the foreseeable future. We had a late reservation, and when we got there, the server told us they were holding two pizza crusts just for us because THAT WAS ALL THEY HAD LEFT, never to be made again. So, it won't necessarily help a future visitor, but nonetheless, I am fairly sure everything you get here is darn near guaranteed to be 5-stars. The pizzas were phenomenal, but there was plenty we had that is going to be staying on the menu. All the different mezze we snacked on were wonderful, highlighted by the humble hummus. Which... not so humble here... was incredible. We dipped all our pizza crusts in it, which the menu highly recommended. The cucumber salad was alot a fresh highlight, with a bright dressing, lots of colorful inclusions to excite your eyes, and fresh veggies throughout. We didnt partake in dessert, but the bakery was still well stocked with choices even near the end of the day. I'm sure I'll be back to Yellow, and they'll be doing something different but amazing. Incredible and worth the wait and hype. They serve an assortment of yummy caffeine and non caffeine drinks as well as delicious pastry and savory options. Highlights: -the pita and hummus are so good, pricey yes but very delicious -the peanut dalgona was something I've never tried before and it was not too sweet (best compliment ever) To know: -line moves quickly, but there's limited seating both indoor and outdoor -you order at the counter then pick up your food before finding a seat

Visited Georgetown from NC this week and I am so glad I stopped in Yellow. The bbq'd harissa cauliflower pita was what dreams are made of-- even better with an additional side of labneh. The baklava mocha was definitely more walnut-forward than I had expected which gave it a sort of malty taste in my personal opinion, which wasn't my favorite. However, the halva honey latte was great. Expect to wait in line but the wait reflects how good the food is. There is somewhat limited seating inside so I took mine to go and enjoyed it at a nearby park. Definitely one of my favorite things I've ever eaten, wishing there was something similar at home! read more
long awaited visit to Yellow but for the complete wrong reasons - I went because I saw something on Instagram for their coconut cardamom coffee, the cold foam on this coffee HIT the way only cold foams can but then the rest of the iced coffee tasted like someone's grandma sneezed seasoning and flowers into a mild cold brew - after seeing the coffee, I investigated and came to the conclusion I needed their zatar croissant. I've never seen something w this much seasoning and I am here for it. the croissant itself was delicious and unique. Only qualm was the labne filling was all in one area so after eating half the croissant like a FOOL I had very little croissant left to distribute the hunk of rich rich rich labne. This was a preventable error on my part - the egg harissa croissant though....this was the best pastry I have ever had. The crispy croissant somehow didn't taste burned at all despite its crunch. The egg was runny and placed atop a salty savory onion concoction. We had just had brunch next door but couldn't resist stopping at Yellow. We tried the "Urfathing" bagel (a Jerusalem bagel, not a New York bagel), which was good (I'd love to have dipped in it a little olive oil with sumac or za'atar though or in a little whipped feta or cream cheese), and the za'atar and labne croissant (almost too much za'atar is an apt description on their menu - it was wildly za'atar-y and yet still so delicious and savory). The S cookie is a favorite of mine (I had it at Albi when Yellow was just a popup in the Navy Yard restaurant), so we got one of those also. Everything was good, and I would love to return (truly hungry next time) to try more: orange blossom croissant, harissa egg croissant, date and labne coffee cake, lemon sumac kouign amann...?! I want everything. If you're into Middle Eastern/Levantine flavors, this bakery is a must try. Creative, delicious, and beautiful food! I will be back! read more

Went on a Saturday and there was a line out the door but they are quick here so don't hesitate because it's worth it. We got the chicken shawarma, croissant with egg and zaatar croissant. For drinks we had the dirty chai. First of it was so good and the pita they make it fresh in their pizza oven. Chicken shawarma is so flavorful and damn good I wanna come back and try the lamb next. Dirty chai was perfect not too sweet and the spices were delightful. Zaatar croissant can be a bit over powering with the spices but it's soft and light. Egg croissant I enjoyed but it was cold when I ate it so I would suggest getting it warmed up. Overall I love the concept and everything about this place I would come back and try the cruffin they were sold out by the time i got there. read more

Loved the food here from the branding to the flavors to the decor. There's also indoor and outdoor seating. I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich, hummus with sujuk, batatas and veggies along with a Turkish nitro latte that had date molasses in it! Everything was so delicious but it was rather pricey with the sides costing just as much as the entrees. You also can't work here with your laptop (no wifi anyways), so consider this a proper lunch break. I would totally come again as a treat when I'm in the Georgetown area, but for the price it unfortunately wouldn't be a regular spot unless I was just getting one thing. read more

This place is Cozy and vibrant in decor. I came here for breakfast and ordered the Turmeric and honey latte, very creamy and full taste of the turmeric was infused. Also ordered Sheeha a lamb meat pie served with lemons wedge and garlic your sauce on the side. It came straight out of the oven and the lamb is very flavorful just wish it was bigger portion. We also had the Za'atar egg croissant , make sure you like Za'atar it's very over powering the grill peppers and perfectly cooked egg just melts in your mouth. For sweet we got the orange blossoms croissant! The flor was amazing as it's a great finish to our meal, they had free filter water bottle that you can self serve which I love. If your in the mood for fresh pastries and great lattes I would highly recommend this place I would come back and try lunch menu. read more

Don't walk, but run to The Yellow Cafe! This is simply the best spot in DC for brunch and lunch. We stopped in for brunch one day and we went in the next day for lunch & wished we had more days to enjoy more of the menu items. Where do I begin? This is what we ordered on our 2 visits: Breakfast: The Zaatar Croissant - simply delicious with a thick layer of zaatar slathered on the outside and a very generous labne filling (never too much zaatar). The orange blossom croissant - flaky with a subtle floral orange blossom flavor - just wonderful. The El Hanout Morning Bun - I would call this a Middle Eastern Cinnamon bun with a chocolate filling - absolutely delicious! The Turkish coffee Brownie packs a strong coffee punch as Turkish coffee should but it is moist and delicious. Lunch: The Hummus is an art in the Middle Eastern world - getting it so it is smooth and not too sharp. The hummus here is just perfection - smooth, creamy, not too tangy & the sesame bread (kaake) took it over the edge. The Chicken Shawarma - delicious. The Smoked Lamb Shoulder Pita was out of this world. Packed full of meat & full of flavor. The Batata Tots are a fry like you have never eaten before. They are slices of potatoes friend packed together in squares with the most divine sauce flavored with shawarma spices. Simply out of this world. The Lamb Sfeeha is a smaller serving but it is a perfectly thin dough which allows the meat topping and spices to just shine, along with the toom sauce on the side. The two things that was a miss for me were the Pistachio Basboousa - I felt it was too heavy on the olive oil and it needed some more orange blossom & rose water. I was also really looking forward to the "Baklava Coffee" but it did not really deliver on the baklava flavor. Will also give a shout out to the lovely decor & cookbooks near the tables. It creates suck a homey feel to the cafe. This is definitely not a an inexpensive place to eat, but all of DC is expensive and in our opinion the Yellow Cafe is worth every penny! I wish we lived in DC as we would be eating here ALL THE TIME! Please consider opening a Yellow Cafe in San Francisco!! read more

the food is fantastic! the baklava croissant ($7) was my favorite. it was huge and fantastic, id recommend! the breakfast pita was also great, especially with the lamb sausage. it was a bit pricy, i spent about $30 for just these three things (not even coffee). the croissant seemed well priced, though. it was really big. the place is also very cute! there's lots of seats and a nice outdoor patio so there's a good chance of being able to sit somewhere. there is a no laptop policy, however. the staff was fantastic though! everyone was so kind. i recommend! read more

Cozy cafe with fast service! The best chicken shawarma I have ever had!! Really love the middle eastern influence of this cafe. The hummus tasted fresh and the chicken shawarma was soooo flavorful. Knowing me though, I had to get extra sauce. I also had a Turkish brownie that was not overwhelmingly sweet. Just perfect. read more

Wow. Those potatoes are amazing! The shawarma chicken and the falafel sandwiches are also delicious. And don't skip the side of garlic toum. All the food was great, the space is very cute, but the price point keeps this from being 5 stars for me. I'll still go back though :) read more

My favorite place to eat at moment. Everything we have ordered in three visits so far had been excellent, including (or most especially) the chicken shawarma and batatas. The hummus with the fried pieces of pitas were also addictive. We would eat here every week if we lived closer (celebrating if they open across the river in Old Town, Alexandria). Although I have a sweet tooth, I regret not trying many of their sweet offerings...as there are just too many of the savory options we want to try. Someday, will update review after trying their sweet bakes . But love this place, and, a bonus, the employees here have always been very pleasant. read more
Really cute fun eclectic place. I loved the atmosphere and everything looked delish. My one thing though is it honestly seems a bit overhyped. I got a baklava affogato, and honestly, maybe it just wasn't for me but it wasn't that good. I love an affogato but this one tasted burnt. I been wanting to go to this cafe as soon as it opened. I made it for lunch and the line was out the door but moved quick. Great vibe and amazing service with a staff that knows the menu. The chicken shawarma had so much flavor with a fresh pita. If you love lamb the smoke lamb shoulder sandwich is fire. Both sandwiches are topped with cabbage, herbs, and tahini. Don't you dare not get the batata tots with the ufra sauce as it has perfect crunch and the sauce can go on anything. I will be going back to try the breakfast soon. If your going on the weekend it will be hard to find a seat but they do have outdoor seating and hopefully they will be adding heaters soon. read more
finally made it here for lunch. busy spot for a tuesday afternoon. it's a small restaurant/cafe. try to grab a table first indoor or outdoor before ordering otherwise they will pack your order to go in case you find a table after. we got the chicken schwarma and the smoked lamb shoulder wood fired pita with the side of the batata tots. the pita bread was so chewy... the bread kept its texture throughout the entire meal. the chicken with slaw was a good blend except the sauce does make the pita soggy at the ends so it was a little hard to eat... eventually finished with a fork. the lamb has a bbq flavor which was nice and texture was super tender.. I think we enjoyed the chicken more but both were great! the batata tots were a nice surprise! the sauce on the side was good and the tots stayed crispy! they also have some fun beers. .. persian lager was crisp! we were a fan and glad we finally made it to lunch. little bit on the pricier side but it's in georgetown and the food was delicious so it was worth it! read more

What can I say about this place. As a Palestinian, as soon as I walked in the smell of za'tar brought me right back into my parents hometown. The chicken shawarma was probably the best and most unique I have had in the US. It was presented in a homemade pita stuffed with chicken that was smothered in spices. The sauces were dripping down my sleeves (in a good way) and the cilantro garnish balanced out the flavor. The batata tots were top tier and if you don't dip it in their homemade sauce, this review is not for you. All in all, there is so much more I want to try on this menu. Let's not forget that they have a brick oven and make the bread in front of you. I'll definitely be back. read more

Yes, they have a few items that are GF, even soft serves. I always get the Chicken Shawarma (without the pita). They unfortunately do NOT have GFO for pizzas.
Are there any stairs in Yellow The Cafe? Is it accessible?
I don't remember any stairs - I think it is pretty accessible .... forgive me if i'm wrong!
Do they serve halal meat?
No. Only the soujuk sausage. Staff confirmed all other meat is not halal.
