if you looking for the Greek food experience unfortunately it's not the right place... it's a nice place but the atmosphere there and the way how they cook just doesn't give you any satisfaction. the appetizer was ok.. but not like you love it and you wanna order it next time, it's doesn't have the right taste and texture.. for the entree we ordered the grilled red snapper and it was over cooked and dry. when I told this to the manager (I think it was a son of the owner), that it's such a waist that they have a fresh fish but they just don't know how to cook it, he was like OK we sorry and that's it! they were not trying to apologize and spoil us with any kind of compliment like coffee or desert.. or whatever.. will not recommend it to my friends. this place absolutely overprice for this quality food and service. next to us it was a company of six people they tried to complain to owner that fried fish which they ordered was not good, everything what he said to them was - other people like it and its your problem if you don't like it! and he walk away... Terrible. This was my first time here and I will never come back. My server barely paid any attention to us and focused more on the 7 top behind us (we were a party of 2). We ordered taramosalata (roe dip) and saganaki. The tarama was delicious but after that we waited a good 15 minutes for the saganaki. Ten minutes after we were done with that (I started taking time measurements because Ive worked in restaurants for the past 16 years and it should never take that long) my server decided to pop up and take our dinner order. We ordered another tarama, some hummus, and dinner we ordered the branzino, octopus and Horta which are dandelions sautéed in olive oil and lemon. My glass of wine was empty and my server never asked if I wanted another one. We got the tarama and hummus but the hummus was grainy and didn't taste right. I'm Greek and 32 and have grown up on this food from inception. I told my server after he came back 15 minutes later and explained we didn't like the hummus...He said that's the way it comes abc walked off. Rude. But I let it slide. Then our meal came. The octopus was ok. The Horta seemed like it was boiled then they just poured olive oil all over it. I actually had to dump the oil out on a separate plate because it was too much and season it myself. God forbid I waited to ask for some lemon, I would've eaten cold greens. The fish was clearly undercooked. The meat was still translucent in some areas. We are about a quarter of it. When my server came back I explained to him the situation and again he walked off. I asked to speak to a manager and the owner came over but didn't look too thrilled to speak to me. He was Greek and he also gave me the same cold attitude that his employer gave me, now I know where they all get it from. Typical Greek egotistical man. My bill was 112 and for the second time in my life I didn't leave a tip as hard as that was but no one was proactive in trying to get the situation resolved. The owner actually said to me that I could never be happy. Lolol. My family owns restaurants, it's in my blood and never in a million years would we treat paying guests with that type of attitude. This place is terrible. I'm Greek and this is by far the worst "Greek" food I've ever tried. The chicken souvlaki and lemon potatoes tasted like a TV dinner. The price was exorbitantly high for the quality. The service and atmosphere were sup par. I first tried Yiasou a few years back and have remained a reoccurring diner ever since. The appetizers are to die for. I can make an entire meal of just them. But to miss out on the entrees would be a shame. Needless to say I always end up over ordering. Some of things that I must have with every visit is the grilled octopus, mixed spread plate, and langoustines (seasoned to perfection). The shrimp clay pot and the filet of sole with the spinach and mushrooms are my favorite entrees. I'm not big on dessert but there's no denying the delicious flourless chocolate cake with the perfect vanilla ice cream on top. Trust me when I say the vanilla ice cream isn't just any store bought ice cream. The flavors are distinct and memorable. Overall, Yiasou is a place I love and plan on going to over and over again. read more

Ok so you know what really grinds my gears? Paying EXTREMELY HIGH PRICES for MEDIOCRE food!!!! I was here yesterday and paid $40 and I repeat $40 for a Red Snapper. WHAT???? This restaurant is going down the hill. Food is either over or under cooked. Waiter got our order incorrectly, however when complained to the manager, he refused to bring the right dish and ask us to leave because he needs the table. I overheard other customers disputed amount charged and again the same manager said that he won't correct the amount and if clients don't agree they can call police. Let's begin with the most important thing---FOOD, which is exceptional and consistent for years! I have been coming here for years and the experience has always been excellent. Yasiou never lets me down. I go there with my family for special occasions as well as just to have a good quality meal. If I don't have it for a week I start craving the yummy spreads, perfectly grilled fish, octopus, spinach pie and who can forget the Greek salad with feta!!! Last time I was there was Mother's Day, for dinner. Food was great, a little slower service but what can you expect on a busy day like that!!! Definitely recommend it. We went in on a Monday afternoon there was 1 other table being served with 2 guests. The room looked nice, clean and I was excited to eat there. The waiter was pleasant and we ordered the "Hot" Appetizer grilled octopus and a nice salad. Then the bread came out which was 4 small slices of toasted Italian bread and the salad. For $12 I expected a lager salad this was definitely on the small side. The Grilled octopus looked good but was far from Hot, barely warm. It seemed microwaved and was on the chewy side not tender at all. Then we ordered the "Whole" Grilled fish, Beet Salad and Horta "Greek version of Greens". So, the fish comes out and we were served 2 small filets 1 on each plate...what happened to the "Whole" fish? Waiter said he took filets off the fish but that is usually done at the table. The filets were boney and average tasting, the fish cost $30. The Beets tasted and looked like they came directly out of a jar from the supermarket. The Horta had zero flavor it didn't even taste like they seasoned them with salt and pepper. This was a Huge disappointment I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

My wife and I love Yiasou. Last time we brought my parents to dinner there. The seafood is fresh and as authentic Greek can get. I always get the Octopus appetizer, it's one of the best Octopus dishes i've ever had. The staff is friendly and remembers patrons, even after only 1 or 2 visits. Had a family celebration tonight at Yiasou and truly enjoyed the atmosphere, the service and the food. The spinach pie was wonderful, and mom loved her lemon chicken soup. The salads were fresh and the dressing just right. Had the marinated chicken breast, it was flavorful, but just a little dry, the tsaziki I put on it was great. The veggies and lemon potato were great. My only complaint was the baklava. It fell apart and the taste was not what I am used to, so would not recommend it. The walnut cookies were wonderful. I couldn't leave yiasou restaurant without writing a review. Upon entering I was instantly greeted and brought to my table. From the beginning, the service was stellar, the food amazing (I had the lamb with orzo), and the experience as a whole-- exceptional. Other not to miss items include grilled octopus, oysters and clams, and the famous saganaki. I met my Brooklyn based boyfriend here the other night and while I was waiting, I chatted up the wife/owner (a beautiful Russian woman), and she told me that she and her husband owned Gardenia, the famed restaurant on Madison Avenue and 67th Street. It all made sense when I heard this! Gardenia closed a few years back and now Yiasou is their heart and soul. It shows. I love this place for a million reasons, beginning with how I am never disappointed. I eat everything -- seafood, meats, desserts - the portions are enough to share and my only regret is that sometimes I struggle with having enough room for dessert. Go on a hot summer night and sit outside or on a cold winter night and enjoy the company of the other diners who always look like they are having a great time. I'm going back and hosting a dinner party next month. read more

Have been going to this place for years. Love the interior - its very bright and airy. The food tends to be solidly good. We usually get a feta spread and an eggplant spread appetizers and they are always delicious. I tend to order their seafood and have not been disappointed so far. My sister's lamb chops were a tad overcooked last time, but she asked for medium-well and that is what they did. I love the Greek wines they have and have been working slowly through the wine list. Yogurt with cucumbers was good, the foccacia that came with was better, though. The grilled salmon was perfectly portioned, perfectly cooked, and perfectly seasoned. The grilled veggies on the side were also great. As for the alcohol---not so great. My class of Merlot tasted like it was open since the dawn of the 21st century. What a wonderful surprise - good Greek food in SHB. I normally go to Astoria for my Greek food and this place was comparable. We shared three dips with pita to start and we all loved them. Yogurt, eggplant and hummus (not typically found in Greek restaurants). I enjoyed the grilled calamari with a side of steamed dandelion. Friends had the soft shell crabs and lamb. They were also very pleased with their selection (s). I started with a great Greek salad and ended with yogurt with a drizzle of honey and walnuts. Delicious. Will be back again. First of all, I don't know how they can call it casual dining with the prices they have. It was was too expensive for a regular family Friday dine out. At least we had an occasion - my MIL 58th birthday. Despite it being a Greek restaurant, all waiter were Russian lol but the service was outstanding, All of them were very attentive the dishes were coming out very fast and food was delicious - surprisingly! Grilled octopus tender, feta cheese fresh and melting in your mouth. My hubby had lamb chops he enjoyed very much. My chicken was dry though. Overall - a good dining experience, but expensive. This is definitely one of my favorite places in brooklyn! I typically am not a fan of octopus, however, their grilled octopus is delicious and I highly recommend it to everyone! Some of my other favorite dishes include the appetizer spreads and the fried cheese! This place is very family friendly and always has a good vibe. The staff are helpful which is a huge plus. This has to be one of the worst dining experiences in a while. My Girlfriend and I had a craving for calamari. We ordered two portions, one grilled and one fried to go, since we wanted to stay at home. When we sat down to eat, the first thing that surprised us was how tiny the portions were. The grilled calmari, were absolutely charred and inedible. Burned black and bitter tasting. The ones that were not burned were rubbery and way overdone. We set the grilled aside and moved on to the fried. Unfortunately, these were overdone too and nearly as tough as the burned grilled version. If there is one thing you can do wrong with squid, it would be to overcook it. I called up the restaurant and spoke with the same lady that took our order, Anna. She started to speak to me in Russian and preceded to explain to me that the grilled calamari were not burned and that was the way they were supposed to come. I asked her if I could take a photo and send it to her phone. She said she would like to see it. I did, after which point I called back. She received the photo and told me that it didn't look burned to her. I tried to explain to her, they were burned black to the point of bitterness, at which point she tried to convince me they were not bitter. She offered to exchange the grilled calamari for another portion of fried, this is when I told her the fried calamari were overdone and very tough. At this point she really got upset and told me she has never got any complaints about their calmari, grilled or fried and hung up the phone. My understanding, Anna runs the place. I'm not sure what is Greek about this place. I'm greek myself and certainly this is not typical of greek hospitality. The service, the food, portion size, all have nothing to do with Greek cuisine. I would most certainly give this place another chance, maybe a full dinner inside next time, if not for the kind of response I got from Anna. Delicious, fresh cuisine and lovely staff. Have been eating in this airy, comfortable restaurant for years and it just keeps getting better. Whether you order the grilled octopus, halibut, or seasonal soft shell crab the food is always prepared perfectly cooked to your request. The portions of the entrees and appetizers, as well as the salads and desserts are very fair, prices are reasonable, and the presentation is delightful. The Red Stag bottle of Greek wine goes great with the food. Waiters and busboys are friendly, helpful, and just so nice and eager to please. The owners greet customers with great warmth and are truly appreciative to have your business. When we bring family members to dine with us, or recommend Yiasou to friends, they all thank us immensely and end up becoming regulars themselves.
