Emmons Avenue offers a lot of dining options these days, but Yiasou is a great one if you don't want to be bombarded with "frills" that are meant to distract you from the ordinary. Many of the restaurants in this area will try to pass themselves off as very high end and charge accordingly. Yiasou is mainly a seafood restaurant where you can still go up and choose the fish you'd like to eat that evening. My family has been there a few times, and we've eaten at pretty much all the other places up and down Emmons Ave over the past year. This place is up there with the best if you want a good, clean meal without tons of sauces to disguise the fact that you're eating last week's catch. Update - we've dined here a few more times since my first review. The off - menu items are great and the staff seems even better than before. This escalated quite unexpectedly so read before going. Due to Thanksgiving, my options were limited so I ended up here. At first, the dining environment and the service seemed quite essential but further into my experience everything kinda turned upside down. They had no accommodations for children so I ended up ordering Macaroni and Cheese for the young one, I didn't realize I was ordering pasta and a tablespoon of cheese sprinkled on top, I also found out when the bill came that it costed $8. Also only fountain soda, no canned soda. Further on, we ordered three separate fish, all around 40$, and waited around 30-40 minutes. I don't know if it's the style of the place but the food tasted very plain, as if they favored unseasoned food. I swallowed away the tasteless Bronzino and my company couldn't finish theirs and took it to go. I asked for the bill and the bill was brought to me written on paper with a pen, I don't know if there isn't a POS or again that's the theme of the restaurant but the total came out to $138 and I paid with my card, they manually inserted a $25 service charge, which isn't even based off a percentage, but it came out to $163. All in all I came to a restaurant with Manhattan Prices, experienced a dining experience that was surprisingly contrary to what it seemed to be and left with almost $200 less for a time that would've been beat almost anywhere else for almost quarter the price. Menu price isn't matching the taste nor experience so Management is doing something wrong. I'll be back here when this place closes and another hopefully a better place opens. read more

I arrived with some family and friends with high expectations, but they were not met. The food was good, I ordered lamb-chops. They were tender and flavorful but small and very overpriced, $35 for four pieces. The dish came with lots of potatoes and vegetables that were sour and mushyTheir white fish was dry, but their appetizers such as the Greek salad and pita with dip were quite good. We also ordered a $17 shrimp cocktail which contained THREE shrimp! Ridiculous! The average restaurant food did not match the absurdly high prices. The absolute worst part about my experience was the service. It took a while for a waiter to take our order, but it took them over an HOUR to bring it! It was crowded but that is not enough to make up for it. And I started keeping track of time AFTER I ate my appetizer. But what appalled me the most about the restaurant was a couple that sat near me who waited half an hour for one of the waitstaff to even acknowledge them! 3.5 star rating! We came here with a group of 8-10 people with no resos at around 8pm on a Saturday night. Luckily, they were able to accommodate us with no problem despite having a packed restaurant! The service was outstanding, and the venue itself was clean, bright, and elegant. The food however, was good...but not spectacular. I guess when you're paying about $25+ for an entree, you're expecting (or at least hoping) you'll be served something delicious, bordering on magnificent. Not so much the case here, unfortunately. I have eaten here 3 times. The first two were excellent. For lunch, I had the swordfish and it was great. My family and I ate here last week. My wife had the Lamb Chops, my older daughter had the BranZino and I had the Red Snapper. My younger daughter was happy with Lobster Bisque Soup. We had baked clams appetizer and grilled octopus with capers, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. My Red Snapper was Overcooked and no taste, the BranZino was ok, but nothing special. The baked clams were large clams, not littleneck(I always think that's a mistake when prepared that way). They tasted good, but they were too big for my liking. The lamb chops were undercooked (to be fair, we like them on the well done side), but also had no taste. The octopus was excellent. I'm hoping it was just a bad night for them. We had a very enjoyable diner here tonight, sat outside. I had the crab appetizer and for dinner had shrimp scampi. Food was very good. The waitress also brought us pita with the best tzatziki sauce, my partner had a chicken dish which was very good also. Always pleasant to sit outside for sure. This was our second time here, and there will be a third, however, we had a girl waitress, and I don't like that. I much prefer a man as a waiter, to me, JMO, a girl waitress reminds me of a diner, and this restaurant was far from diner material. Some dishes are good quality (dorado fish) while others are poor (salmon). Be aware of the fish prices that state M/P (market price) and ask in advance about the price. I have been eating at this restaurant for the last 10 years or whenever it opened. It was opened by a Greek gentleman and his Russian wife and the food was always good but expensive. Up until last night I would go and have an expensive Greek dinner and enjoy it. I am Greek so I appreciate the Yivizi and some other Greek dishes which were normally properly prepared. I do note that the range of Greek food has always been limited... Last night I encountered the owners son Managing the restaurant and we ate as a party of four. When the main course was served the Lamb chops were cold and the red wine reduction was not done properly - i.e. it tasted like soy sauce had been used to marinate the chops. We were hungry so we ate them...but we could have as easily crossed the street and bought prepared food at Cherry Hill which would have been better.. The Yivizi which was the focus of the meal as we ordered two serving to share was absolutely horrible. I am not sure how they can let something like this out of the kitchen so I brought the food to the back of the restaurant and the Manager agreed that they did not taste "normal". He would not admit that they had gone off... at this point I noticed the prep team preparing the food in the kitchen were the same Mexican bus boys who make the deliveries. No wonder the food was so disappointing...I doubt the staff have been trained for more than five minutes... So in the end we had a disappointing meal which cost me US$ 450 plus a tip.. Check the price of the wine - They hit me up for US$ 109 per bottle for an absolute average Rose which I expected to be around US$50 a bottle. Really I will not go back and neither should you - A real rip off at this point - be careful ...better to take away from Cherry Hill which is directly across the street !!!!! read more

I have been to this place twice before and don't remember it being as bad as it was in my most recent visit... aside from the rude hostess, the waiter who messed up our order, my linguine with shrimp that was spicy and the restaurant itself being a bit cold considering the weather, I ordered a shrimp cocktail and to them that means charging me $17.50 for 3 shrimp. That is just ABSURD!!! It is just beyond ridiculous. The food wasn't great and they are way overpriced for nothing! I understand the circumstances now a days but come on! It's actually more of a reason to try and be nicer and provide good service to attract customers and not the other way around just saying... next time I want Greek food I will definitely NOT be coming here again! read more

Swordfish steak is supposed to be silky and soft, if properly prepared. We were a group of four, and no one enjoyed their entrees. We did not enjoy flavorless and overcooked fish dishes. My company had a fisherman, and I consider myself a seafood junky. Therefore, it can be said that we would know how properly prepared seafood needs to taste. A few lambs choices.almost entirley Seafood Oriented with really fresh (almost flapping) fish If you like they even bring out the fish of your choice, kinda of a nice throw back that is very refreshing. in addition with almost clock like precision in the middle of the room another waiter sets a dish on fire and ignites a three foot flame (some sort of flambe) Salads, fish, and spreads are worth the trip. Dish presentations were very "Diner like" They had this mixed spread that was the best I've tried for $15 it was the only item reasonably priced. The fish soup lacked salt. Their chowder was okay. Baked clams were good but not impressed. Their swordfish was delicious but the veggies it came with were very ordinary as if at a Diner. The fried calamari were fresh and nicely seasoned. I love Yiasou! I come here frequently and their food is always delicious. My favorite dish is the Chicken Souvlaki platter. They have a nice variety of desserts as well. The staff is always very friendly and attentive, It's especially nice to come here during the spring and summer because you can sit outside directly across the street from the Bay.
