If you're looking for cheap fast greek then this is the place for you. That's basically the best way i can describe it being how the food is cheap for what you get and the taste is ok. I know everyone gives it high marks and that could be the reason i was even more dissapointed in the place. I had two things, the gyro which wasn't bad it sure wasn't great either it was just a meal nothing memorable. Te falafel.. now this was a horror. The size was tiny but that was a good thing because it tasted lousy. Did they even use any seasoning? Little bland crunchy balls with no taste no flavor. definately something i would avoid if i go back again. Maybe it's because i've been spoiled, i have my favorite gyro and falfel place already? This restaurant brings back so many memories. Even the outside decor of Yiassoo has never changed and honestly it should never change. =) Aside from that, the food here is very good and has some of the best Greek food the area has to offer. It's a bit hard to remember everything that I've tried here but I liked it all. I would go into detail on each entree that I had here but there's really no reason to since everything was delicious. I first came to this place around 5 years ago and it's always a tasty food option whenever I'm home in Cupertino (although home is usually reserved for Chinese food or trips to SF nowadays). As usual, the gyros sandwich here is bomb dot com. You get lots of meat piled high with some sort of slaw, fresh tomatoes, and the option to put some delicious tzatziki on top. If you want to pay extra, get the super gyros for even more meat and some feta cheese. The meat is very tasty too..tender, salty, and some pieces will have some nice crunch to it. After having had my share of good Mediterranean and gyros, I was super disappointed with this place. I was excited to go since I wanted to eat something at least slightly healthier than other eating out options. I ordered the chicken souvlaki sandwich and hummus. My friend ordered the falalfel super sandwich. The chicken was on the drier side, the pita was pretty good - chewy and soft. But the tzatziki sauce was missing something, it definitely was not as creamy as I remember the ones I like being. And although other places tend to have more toppings, this place only had tomato and onion, both of which had no flavor besides the onion's spiciness. The hummus was fine but didn't stand out. The falafel wasn't anything spectacular, and I'd probably go to another Mediterranean place before I come back here. They're nice though and it's an easy place to get food. read more

Pretty sure this place has been here since Taco Bell moved out and I've actually never been up until now. I ordered to-go through the Yelp app and I have to say besides the fact that they actually don't deliver, it was pretty easy. The food was pretty good as well. I had the Super Gyro Plate with a side of Hummus and an order of Baklava. Service, however limited view I have through getting a to-go order, was pretty friendly and the whole transaction was smooth as silk. Now I know that I don't have to drive very far at all for some quality gyro. I would give it a solid 3.5 for food and service but I think the convenient location tipped the scale for me. I love the gyros here. The pita bread is always soft and delicious. They have indoor and outdoor seating. When the weather is bad finding a seat can be challenging since the indoor seating is more limited. Best for groups less than 6 since there isn't a lot of flexibility with the tables and setup. read more

I've lived in Cupertino my entire life, and I've only recently discovered the wonders of Yiassoo. I've never had a better gyros anywhere in the world - until maybe I go to Greece. The flatbread is what flatbread should taste like. The combination of that with the meat + tomatoes + onions + yogurt sauce is... omg SO sexy. You'll see what I mean when you take your first bite. To top it off, their fries destroy all other fries out there. Always fresh, always super HOT; golden and crispy on the outside, soft and potatoey on the inside. If you're feeling like eating light (God forbid), the Greek salad is also delicious and refreshing. This is a restaurant I keep coming back to. Right now I'm on a carb-free diet, so I ordered the gyro salad because having the gyro sandwich wasn't in the cards. It was tasty, but the meat was kind of dry and was in huge slices, so you had to cut it (they did provide a knife though). The salad was HUGE and there was no way to eat it all, nor save it because of the dressing applied. There were only 3 olives in the entire salad and I love olives. So, I'm not so sure that I'd order it again. My son loves the soulvaki kids plate, but is not a french fry fan (so that is wasted). read more

I LOVE Greek food. Love it. And, while I thought that the food here was decent, I wasn't in love with it. We ordered two gyro sandwiches, a falafel sandwich, a side of the kabobs, and some hummus. First, way too much garlic. Now, if you are the kind of person who likes garlic, then you may not have an issue with this place. I, however, tend to avoid the stuff whenever possible. Every sauce was loaded with it. Second, the falafels were fluffy. They fell apart, so it felt as if I was eating falafel fluff. I like my falafels to be a bit more firm and substantial. My friend's raved on about Yiassoo for a while, saying how I have to try it out. So after 3 weeks I've finally tried it out, and it was delicious. I had a broiled lamb souvlaky sandwich, my friend got a gyro and hummus for us to split. I can typically gauge how good a food item is by the speed by which I eat it. I inhaled my sandwich before she was halfway done. Oops. The sandwiches are chock full of onions and tomatoes smothered in satziki sauce. I don't think there was lettuce. The lamb was in big chunks and tender. It tasted how I expected it to taste, which is a good sign because I'm picky with the texture of my lamb. Which reminds me, I should go brush my teeth to get rid of my onion breath. The hummus was delicious. It was slightly nutty and didn't have the taste of over-processed massively produced hummus. The toasted flatbread was really good too. Prices were pretty cheap, it'll be hard to walk out spending over 10 bucks a person. Portions were giant; a sandwich was definitely enough. I want to say I eat a lot, but maybe my appetite's gone down. Speed was pretty fast; it was all less than 10 minutes from ordering at the counter to being in my belly. Fave: Super Gyro plate One of the best Greek food places around! I usually order some type of gyro when I come here, and usually it's the gyro plate or super gyro plate. For a reasonable cost ($10-$11), you get a HUGE gyro (it really is "super"), side of fries, and soup or salad. The gyro meat here is really tasty and I've heard it's a mixture of multiple meats. Regardless, it's extremely flavorful. And they're not shy about putting meat in their gyros. The super gyro is especially chock full, and has feta cheese in it as well for an added flavor kick. And for those people who like to use as much sauce as they want, Yiassoo gives you your very own squirt bottle of ketchup and what I assume is yogurt sauce. The fries, while nothing special (and why should they be, considering it's a Greek place) are still good and better than a lot of fast food fries. The salad is usually fresh and again has lovely feta cheese on it. I believe you can get soup instead of salad but I've never tried their soup. Another bonus if you don't feel like gyros is that they have quite an extensive menu, including souvlakis, etc. The physical location is rather small (not many seats), but unless you go during VERY peak hours, it's usually not crowded. I believe lunch is more crowded than dinner; often times I've been here at 6-7 PM on a weekday and it was not that crowded at all. read more

I love this place! Haven't found a better gyro around these parts and believe you me....i've tried quite a few. Good solid food for reasonable prices. I love that I can order our meal online and drive over there to find them packing it up for me. We get the super gyro combo (because they make their own feta) and a kebab combo as well because a meal is incomplete for hubby if it is missing rice. Really, really delicious Greek food! Came here late around 8 pm with a spanakopita craving. They had just finished cleaning though with some really potent cleaning products, so it was kind of stinky inside. Couldn't go outside because everything was wet, just finished raining. I'm glad I stuck it out though... I ordered a greek salad & 2 spanakopitas, husband got a combo plate and we shared some loukomathes. The greek salad was enormous and super fresh, not too generous with the feta but the feta was super delicious. The spanakopitas hit the spot, I loved them! They were quite large though, I probably could have just ordered one and been fine (I took the 2nd one home). The combo plate was fantastic, every kebab was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Loukomathes- I have never had these amazing little donuts before but omg they are like little pieces of heaven dipped in honey. I highly recommend everything we ate. The smell of the cleaning products was so strong at first it almost gave me a headache, but I'm glad I stuck it out (at least you know they keep the place clean though, right?). I've passed by this place many times but never stopped by. The only Greek food I ever had was that place in Santana Row, and I only thought it to be mediocre. Anyway, I dropped in and ordered the eggplant, potato, thing (forgot what it's called) with the bread. The bread came with this spicy sauce which was absolutely amazing! However, there were less than two handfuls of pieces of meat, so I was disappointed on the quantity. The salad consisted of iceberg, cucumbers, chopped tomatoes and olives. It was fresher than expected at a fast food joint but nothing too extraordinary. There was a creamish sauce they gave us with the order - I think it was supposed to go with the gyro wrap but I put it on my salad. It was tastier than the cucumber dip they provided with my salad. The hummus was the biggest disappointment. The single order is enough for two, so don't make the same mistake as I did and order two. They are pre-packaged (although tasted fresh) - but that isn't the root of my complaint. The hummus simply lacked any greek flavor. It tasted just like crushed, plain garbanzo. I guess I expected more. And the pita pieces were slightly burnt, which just made everything taste burnt. I expected to walk out of here for about $7 per person, but it still cost us roughly $10 per person including the hummus dip. I love Greek Food. Consider this place Greek fast food, and you'll do okay here. I had the lamb souvlaki plate; tender meat but not enough, warm pita bread which was a nice to hold up the meat and some yogurt sauce. The rice pilaf had the consistency of Rice-a-Roni with a mix of frozen peas and carrots. The salad was fairly weak too with a lot of tomatoes and very little cucumbers. Anyhow, everything was pretty good... probably the best Greek food I've had in a while. But that doesn't really mean much, cause I almost never eat Greek food. I will never get a pre-cooked chicken from a supermarket again. Drove past here countless times and slowly but surely the whole chicken, rice and pita for $8.99 sign broke down my resistance. The ex old school Taco Bell exterior is deceiving. Coming inside, the smells are wonderful, the interior is very clean and obviously well managed. A great variety of Greek food on the menu. Our chicken,rice and pita all were very delicious and a great bargain for dinner. The chicken was falling off the bone and the sauce in the chicken box was great for drizzling on the rice and dipping the pita into. My review is based strictly on the salads, which I suppose could be where I'm going wrong, but they've got a great selection of salads, which should be held to the same standard as everything else. My fiance and I try to keep it healthy during the week and we stumbled upon Yiassoo when we were looking for healthier lunch options near his work. We were really excited to see so many salad options on the menu - gyro, falafel and more! Overall the salads are pretty decent for a healthy lunch, but I have to say they could really kick it up a notch by using better produce. We've been to Yiassoo twice in the last month and the tomatoes especially were not 100% ripe, nor fresh and flavorful. I might let this slide in the middle of winter, but it's August and this is California. The produce shouldn't taste like it came from a supermarket in North Dakota in the middle of winter. read more

Ehh, this place is okay. I prefer Falafel Drive-In for so many reasons. This place is located off of De Anza, near Bollinger and has other restaurants around it. I thought it was going to be nicer, but is kind of shabby like a hole-in-the-wall place. When we went in, I smelled a bleachy odor, which was not too bad because I thought it would mean that they are quite clean, but actually it was wet paint...which was being applied while we (and others) were eating dinner. The menu is a bit overwhelming and there are no half sizes of the sandwiches. The pricing is cheap, and the portions large so that is a plus. The falafel and hummus were delicious, as was the fresh and fluffly pita. I do not like how they don't have napkins out for you to use as you please though. If craving falafels and not willing to drive by Valley Fair, this place will satiate. However, I was totally feening for a fresh banana shake. Boo. read more

The Gyros are a very big disappointment for me and others who have had Greek food in the northern midwest (Milwaukee/Chicago) or east coast (New York, DC, Boston). The worst disappointment was the cucumber sauce that is a must, if not tradition -- it tastes horrible, it's bitter, spicy and not enjoyable with the meat. The Gyro meat used is not as rich and vibrant as one would expect (is there really any lamb in it??), it is also quite greasy -- which is unexpected since the meat should be carved off the spit! (apparently this is hit and miss) As a side note, the dolmades are served cold, they leave a very bitter taste in your mouth. It's difficult to finish half an order, do not order this side dish here, there are other places to get good dolmades (John's XLNT Food in Willow Glen - San Jose)! Best Gyros for me come out of a place called Oakland Gyros in Milwaukee, WI and everything I try is tested against that. Yiassoo is terrible in comparison, not even passable. I do not recommend stopping for this food if you have average or above-average expectations for the Greek food, but if you are in the mood for a chargrilled burger it's OK. read more

HEADLINE: Maybe I just didn't try the best things on their menu, but I was not impressed ... other Greek joints in the Bay Area are simply much better IMHO ... having said that, it's clean / fast / inexpensive for lunch. Stopped by here for lunch today with a hankering for Greek ... lamb, in particular. I was picking up some dry cleaning next door at Scotty's on DeAnza and remembered all the Yelp'ing going on about this place. I drove into the parking lot at 11:30 AM and, literally, from the looks of it from the outside, thought the place was out of business. Lot was empty. All the umbrellas were taken down from the outside seating area. The huge banner there all summer long proclaiming 'a whole chicken / rice / soda for $8.99' had disappeared (maybe they just discontinued that special, or it's not applicable on Wednesdays), and the lights seemed to be out inside. I checked my watch and it said 11:30 so I figured let's try anyways. I was here early to beat the notorious lunch traffic from the neighboring businesses ... (Apple down the street in particular) ... and when I walked in they were found to be, indeed, open ... with a lone couple sitting inside awaiting their order. I belly'ed up to the bar and ordered a Lamb Gyro with extra Tzatziki sauce, a side Greek salad and an 'ice water' from the soda fountain. Tab came to just over a Hamilton and I threw the extra change into the tip jar. Sat down and waited about 5 minutes for the order to come out .. not bad. The tray had my gyro overflowing and neatly end-wrapped in foil to maintain structural integrity ... at least for the first 2 or 3 bites ... ;-)), along with a VERY small Greek salad in a styrofoam cup and a nicely refrigerated squeeze bottle of some white mystery sauce. I set into the gyro with great expectations .... aaaannnnnnndddd ... was disappointed on several fronts. The lamb was in huge chunks and while warm, lacked any real Greek spice like garlic or Greek oregano and certainly was missing the requisite gaminess of the lamb. The chunks of lamb I think would have been much better served in slices, so the marinade (if they use one) might be better able to be absorbed by the meat. The tomatoes in the pita were forgettable ... unripened pink, not red, in color ... and the Tzatziki sauce was less than memorable. Now I'm not a Greek cuisine expert by any stretch of the imagination ... but I thought Tzatziki was supposed to be made with copious amounts of fresh dill ... this sauce had none, whatsoever ... I thought Tzatziki was supposed to be thick, not runny, thanks to using genuine Greek yogurt or drained domestic yogurt ... this sauce was extremely thin and runny. It really didn't have the bite I was looking for, and certainly did not compliment the lamb. Indeed, the mystery white sauce in the squeeze bottle was INFINITELY better ... but it tasted a lot like Creamy Italian ... The one good thing about the gyro was the pita bread itself ... it was genuine Kronos, in all likelihood ... substantial, crispy, flavorful, holding up to all the moist contents of the sandwich all the way through its consumption ... one star earned here alone, given all the pita bread fiascoes that can be endured consuming a gyro with shitty quality bread. The Greek side salad was simply a joke ... pink, unripe tomatoes dominated the small cup of ingredients ... no flavor whatsoever. These were accompanied by one (1) small pepperocini no bigger than an inch long, one (1) Kalamata olive likewise smallish in size, 3-4 small pieces of green pepper, two (2) small rings of fresh red onion, and two (2) of the smallest strips of Feta cheese that I have ever seen (just barely an inch long and a quarter inch square). And I must say I doubt the authenticity of the Feta ... either it was a very low cost version or not really authentic Feta at all ... versus what I've enjoyed elsewhere. Feta cheese is supposed to MAKE a vibrant Greek salad ... this cheese hid, despite the inferior ingredients employed. No amount of oil / vinegar could salvage this mishap. So, again, fellow Yelp'ers, I just don't know what all the "OPA!!!" is all about in these reviews for this joint. Maybe its that all you Ipod-bots really don't have a lot of variety to dine at around DeAnza and this is better than most of the humdrum places you get to frequent for a quick lunch. I'll give it just one more star for the cleanliness of the storefront, the speed of order delivery, and the fact that at 11:30 lines were nonexistent ... I'm sure the line's out the door at Noon. IMHO, Athena Grille in Santa Clara stands head and shoulders over this little place ... orders of magnitude better for Greek food ... both in terms of authenticity / quality, but also variety of menu choices. Sure its seating area is about triple the size ... but the kitchens are about the same square footage. Athena wins my vote, hands down!!! read more

Yet another on the list of regular lunch stops. A solid 4 star experience. Great lamb, gyros, and falafel. Add double meat to a lamb, chicken, steak, or gyros salad for only $2.99. The salads come with plenty of feta (though I wish they had more kalamata olives). The hummus is good too. If you are in the mood for something sweet, the loukoumathes (deep fried dough balls, drizzled with honey) are awesome. If you are in a hurry on a weekday, get here before noon... the line frequently goes out the door. The good news is that it moves very fast. Service is fast too. There is plenty of outdoor seating which is great for sunny days. But watch your knees! All but a few of the outdoor tables and benches are fixed, and I frequently end up banging my knee on the table support. read more

I went with high hopes that I would find a great gyro. It was only okay. Pros: - Good Pita bread, can get with some meat or LOTS of meat (super gyro), the feta on a gyro is great Cons: meat was a tad salty as others have commented. The Tzatziki was somewhat watery and not very garlicky. I can make better tzatziki (Steve's in Boston has AWESOME tzatziki, although their gyro is lacking, but I digress). In the bay area, I'd have to say that San Fran's Oasis grill makes a really good cucumber/yogurt salad, lots of tang and flavor, although not technically tzatziki. Overall it wasn't a memorable gyro. Tried the Avgolemono soup. It was just salty chicken soup, not thickened at all, and it was missing the acidic tang of lemon. Try Kokkari or Evvia for a really nice avgolemono soup. I love this place. I go here with my boyfriend for lunch since we work near by pretty often. I love all the food but my personal favorite is the gyro salad. Its light and full of flavor, I normally get it the way it is but from time to time I double the meat. The meat is crispy and yumminess all around! I have tried the chicken and lamb (which my boyfriend normally gets) and I must say its pretty delish. The rice is always cooked perfect... all and all this place is a must try! Gyros, how I love you! And Yiassoo has some bomb gyros - it makes me so very happy. It's kind of a small place to dine-in, but they have great outdoor seating. If you didn't know already, I LOVE EATING OUTDOORS! The tables here are so cute; they have a Greek/Mediterranean style - which I was absolutely excited about...YAY! My friend and I (another fellow yelper) ordered a gyros sandwich, and it was delicious. The pita bread was soft and perfect. Bread is always key in a sandwich, and I was impressed with how well-made the pita was. Plus, the meat was moist and plentiful! It also came with lots of onions and tomatoes, two of my favorite veggies. I drenched my gyros with their hot sauce and Tzatziki sauce, and it made the gyros even better! And of course, the food is delicious- portion is BIG (well, to me it is important), and service is great. I would recommend the chicken skew salad plate, gyro plate, and lamb plate. Even the yogurt and dressing are delicious. Salad is fresh and delicious, pita brad is too good for me to keep low carb diet, and the chicken and lamb are just juicy and tender.
