Great legit Korean restaurant that makes me feel at home - I ordered galbitang ($15.99 hot short rib soup), which was not too salty and not too bland. Definitely enough meat for one person (had about 5 chunks of meat), and comes with a bowl of rice. Side dishes consist of kimchi, kkakdugi (diced radish kimchi), mujangachi (kind of like pickles in soy sauce), which all tasted great with the galbitang. A lot of seating, kind service from Korean ajummas, and is in a location surrounded by other restaurants and stores (Hmart, kona loa coffee, somi somi). Side note: my parents got the dolsot bibimbap and kondrae bibimbap (both $16.99, with the latter a vegetarian option), which they thought were decent but not memorable. Soup is good for the soul! Yigah always hits my Korean soup fix in OC. I've tried Yigah numerous times, and it is always consistent with great food and service. My favorite is the sul lung tang, really simple beef bone broth that is heart warming. I also really enjoy the Galbi Tang and yukgaejang. The meat for the Galbi Tang is super tender and it falls right off the bone. Yukgaejang has a good spice to it, for all the spicy food lovers. Yigah also serves amazing banchan(small sides that come with the meal), with unlimited refill. Also, the barley tea they serve for each person who dines in, is light and smooth. We were the only ones in the restaurant when midweek lunch started. We had a party of 7 adults and 2 kids. We needed extra bowls, utensils, and napkins. We got lip and attitude from. The service staff when we asked for each. The waitress literally said that there waa 1 spoon per person already given to us. One of the kids had dropped a spoon so I gave them mine. The waitress's attitude and the restaurant's unwillingness to work with an elderly nonagenarian and two kids under the age of ten in our group was astounding. I will never come here again. Also, the served our septuagenarian patriarch food on broken dishes and that, in Korean culture is VERY BAD LUCK. The waitresses should really have known better. If you go, make sure your elderly never have issues, your kids never need anything, and heaven forbid you ever need anything that's considered basic in restaurant service... Be ready for the Asian crowds on weekends and come hungry since portions are large. It was also really packed with meat, and the soup was umami and delicious. We also got the Galbitang, which is definitely one of their specialties. My boyfriend and I were in diamond jamboree, trying to figure out what restaurant to go to for a late lunch. We landed on Yigah, and it is tiny inside. When we got in, most of the tables were either taken or were recently taken as evidenced by the empty dishes. Fortunately, we got seated right away. The first thing I noticed was that people had these huge stone pans. We tried to get one by ordered a beef bimbimbop, but I think the bigger ones are for the squid or octopus. Regardless, the bimbimbop was good! It had good amounts of veggies and beef. The egg was perfect. Also, I was very surprised at how clean I was able to scrap the harden rice from the bowl. Usually I have to fight for those rice chipies lol. The spicy beef stew was good too, but it definitely packs heat. There was plenty of glass noodles, beef, and veggies in it. It also comes with a bowl of rice. All in all, it was so much food!! The bigger disappointment was that around 3pm they ran out of fish cakes to give as a starter. :( sad times. Korean's are known for their lack of care in customer service and unfriendly bedside manners, so it's no surprise that the service here borders on rude or an "I can care less" and you'll never hear a waitress say "May I help you?" or crack a smile nor grin. Knowing that, know what you're walking into when patronizing this restaurant. They're not horrible or neglectful by choice, it's more by cultural design. Today, my parents visited here for lunch. When they came back, they were furious with the poor level of service the staff provided. The rice wasn't fully cooked (the grains were still hard). When my father approached the staff to bring up this issue, their response was "well, all of our rice is cooked that way?" How is my father, nor is any customer supposed to react upon this ridiculous response? Isn't it basic and common sense to provide your customers with well-steamed hot rice to enjoy along with their main dishes? The staff even took orders from all tables in informal language.. When my parents were being escorted to their seats, they noticed a bunch of tables on the right that were empty and wanted to sit there and hinted at the staff but they turned they heads (I guess out of disgust for asking?) and acted like they didn't hear my parents. Because that mall in particular is roaming with people and customers, the restaurant is still doing well, however, that is not the way you run a restaurant. The only reason I am giving this place one star is because of the way their oxtail soup and short rib stew tastes. If this kind of service was displayed in my motherland, the response from customers wouldn't have been so pleasant. Little establishment in Irvine next to Kicking Crab on Alton and Jamboree. The serve delicious korean dishes (not the typical tofu soup or kbbq). We ordered #2 galbitang (short rib soup) and the hubby got #16 (Tonkatsu with korean sauce). The short rib soup comes with a generous portion of white rice and typical korean side dishes (different types of kimchi). The broth was very clear and with lots of beef flavor. The soup came with a lot of meat and green onion. It was delicious. This is the non-spicy flavor. The tonkatsu dish was a big plate. Two people can share this dish or one very hungry person can eat this dish. The dish comes with a giant piece of fried pork cutlet, a generous portion of white rice and a generous portion of cole slaw. The cole slaw is a great addition to refresh yourself after eating the big piece of fried meat. Both dishes were delicious. We came out of the place very stuffed.
