When we didn't tip them for their bad service, they came and ask us directly why we did not tip them. Overall I feel that the staffs are kind of under-trained and is unwelcome only to our group. Super casual, relatively fast service, and equipped with ironclad Korean aunties. All of the banchan tastes delicious. The kimchi was so good we asked to take some home to go. I could tell they were talking to each other in korean about me in front of me. then said i don't need them and there's no reason to ask for so many. The bulgogi was sweet and good with rice and the side of lettuce that was given to us. Lastly the bossam was good as well. Solid Korean eatery with hearty and large dishes! I called in for to go for yukdaejang on a monday for noon, when i came the order was ready and soup was hot. To go order came with 4 banchans, glass noodle soup, and rice. Yukdaejang was not overly spicy and tons of veggies and meat, they don't skimp out the portions on here! For $23 this is well worth it. Stopped by this Korean soul food spot located in the always popular Diamond Jamboree. Parking is always a hassle so be prepared for that. I got the spicy octopus and tonkatsu which were around $23 per dish. Every entree comes with some delicious sides including my favorite fish cakes. Tonkatsu was nice and crispy, good portion. Chicken was moist and tasted fresh. The spicy octopus was enormous and had a tasty melody of veggies, egg, and rice. Again, generous, shareable portions. If you're looking for comfort food, this is the place to go! This restaurant is located in Diamond Jamboree in Irvine. The interior is clean and in reading some of the other reviews, I can understand why some believe that service may be lacking. From our experience, service was good and responsive; however, staff composes of two overworked women. It takes time to get what you need but that's understandable because they are understaffed. On to food! We ordered the Ugeoji Galbi Tang and the Galbi Tang. The only diffferences I can tell from both is that the Ugeoji Tang includes a bean paste and lots and lots of vegetables. The broth was savory sip after sip. The Galbi Tang was very refreshing and soothing to the stomach. If you have a cold or feeling unwell, this is the to-go soup. Parking is okay during the day but because there's so many shops at Diamond Jamboree, it can be a challenge during the weekends so plan ahead! read more

Located in a bustling strip mall in Irvine, Yigah is a small Korean restaurant that has held its own whilst situated among popular Asian chains such as Haidilao and BCD Tofu House. My family of four had originally wanted to dine at BCD at around 7pm on a Wednesday night, but unfortunately, the waitlist was a whopping 50 parties long with an estimated 1hr+ long wait, so we promptly walked over to Yigah, which had arond 8 parties in front of us (it ended up being a 15min wait, which was much more reasonable). We also liked the fact that they were having parties order before they were seated to expedite the seating process. The menu is varied, with options for everyone ranging from more traditional Korean dishes (think Gopchang/Intestines and Seollongtang/Korean Beef Bone Soup) to Americanized-Korean fare (Bibimbap or Spaghetti Cheese Pork Cutlet, anyone?). Upon getting seated by a nice Korean ajumma (bonus tip: speak Korean if you can - they'll treat you more nicely), we were immediately served boricha (barley tea - which instantly demonstrated that this was definitely an authentic Korean place), as well as an array of mouthwatering banchan, which I believe they make in house. The kimchi, spicy spinach/watercress, and kkakdugi (spicy pickled radish) were unbelievably crunchy and fresh-tasting, with an addictively spicy-sweet sauce (though my dad did find it a bit too sweet for his taste). The fish cakes were served in a sweet, savory glaze with a lovely umami flavor, and the bean sprouts were also fresh and crunchy, with a great taste of rich sesame oil. Whenever any of our banchan dishes ran low, the servers were always so attentive in providing us with a refill, which we really appreciated. My dad ordered the #3 Seollongtang ($17.99 - Beef Soup w/ Vermicelli and Choice of Meat: sliced brisket, flank, intestine, or mixed) - he chose Mixed. It was a good portion, with plenty of meat in a broth rich with beef bone flavor (it's traditionally simmered with the bones for hours to impart that milky color and deep flavor). It wasn't as good as some of the others he's had, but he enjoyed the tender meat and well-cooked vermicelli noodles (though he's not a fan of intestine). Pro tip: ask for sliced green onions on the side, which really help to elevate the dish by adding freshness - also, the broth comes relatively unseasoned, so season to your heart's desire with salt and pepper! My brother ordered the Woog'uhgee Galbitang ($20.99 - Beef Short Rib Soup with Cabbage Leaves). This came with a generous amount of beef on the bone in a hearty soup with a flavor reminiscent of doenjang-jjigae (spicy soybean paste soup). The meat was tender, and the cabbage was cooked to an amazing texture, though he did wish that there was more of a variety of ingredients inside the soup. I ordered the Gamjatang ($21.99 - Pork Backbone and Potato Stew) - I'm not usually used to Korean stews costing over $20, but this stew was served in a giant bowl with, I kid you not, well over 1.5 lbs of meaty pork bones, and two large pieces of potato. The broth was spicy, hearty, and warming to the soul, topped with a generous amount of perilla leaves, which added an addictive crunchy freshness to the dish. The meat itself was so generously portioned, tender, and fall-off-the-bone, soaking up all the spicy goodness of the soup, and the potatoes just made the dish even more filling - I couldn't finish the dish, so I packed it up to get a full second meal out of it! It's also important to note that all soups come with rice, though the portions are so large that my dad and I didn't even touch our bowls of rice (though my teenage brother happily gobbled his up). Lastly, my mom ordered the Cheolphan Nahkji Dupb'ap ($22.99 - Rice w/ Assorted Veggies and Spicy Octopus) - this comes out on a giant sizzling iron platter, and it's (yet again) a huge portion of food. There's a giant pile of octopus and veggies in a spicy sauce, but we found the octopus to be of mediocre quality, and the red sauce, while certainly looking spicy, was actually kind of bland - we needed to add salt (which almost never happens at Korean restaurants). The rice is extremely good, however, since it creates an addictively crunchy crust on the bottom of the iron plate (real Koreans know that this is the best part, especially with sauce), and the sunny-side-up egg the dish is served with was perfectly runny, and makes a lovely little scramble when mixed with the hot rice and sweet/spicy sauce (another pro tip: put the kimchi sauce in this mixture and thank me later). Overall, this was a great find post-BCD-disappointment (which I think is probably how they get a lot of their customers - I know that their restaurant is Garden Grove is a lot more well-known). Prices may seem higher than most other Korean restaurants, but the portions are huge and delicious (especially their homey soups/stews), and I would certainly come back here again! read more

I usually order galbitang when I come here, which really hits the spot on a cold day. The galbitang is flavorful and done well here, my only area for improvement would be that the meat could be made more tender. The service was very good, and they were on top of asking if we wanted more banchan and/or hot tea. I could see how they might fall short in this area when they're busy though. And then the katsu: chef's kiss. There's a variant of it with spaghetti that I will try next time, going to be legendary. Wait can be long during weekend dinners (duh). I knocked a star off for two reasons: 1. we were sat so close to another party of two that we basically were sharing a table with them and they were two young men who kept talking about women in a disrespectful way. there absolutely needs to be more space in between some of their two tops because not only that, but we were just way too close to them.... like bumping elbows close. 2. they advertise having Hite beer but served us with a different beer and didn't even explain that they didn't have Hite. they just replaced it without asking us if it's ok. HOWEVER, the food was delicious.
