Delicious sushi! Perfect for both lunch & dinner! The lunch options are so affordable and there is something for everyone. Bonus for being very fast, so you are in and out quickly. I have always been so impressed with the freshness and variety of sushi offered. Both nigiri and rolls. Additionally they have some hot food and non seafood if there is anyone in your party that requires other options. In my opinion its the best sushi around and the lunch boxes are a great place to start if its your first time. My absolute favorite sushi spot! Great service, we usually sit at the sushi bar. We are regulars, so we are often brought our regular drinks, a cucumber salad (which I always request sesame seeds added by the bar) and miso soup. We order a few of our favorites every time - tuna, yellow tail and conch sushi and a Tampa roll. Everything else, we choose/decide whatever we fancy.... BEWARE THEY CHOOSE HOW MUCH YOU TIP The assumption of tipping is out of control! Tonight my son (almost 11 year old) wanted sushi so I called in a couple rolls to Yoko's. I gave him my card and he ran in to pay. He came back out saying they made him tip... I was confused. He said the girl at the front hit the 18% button first THEN gave him the machine to insert card. WHAT!? So I go back in and ask the girl at the front. I preface with, yes I don't have a problem tipping but it's the assumption that you chose for my son. She then very condescendingly told me that people typically do 20% but she bumped it down to 18% for him.... Once again... that's not your decision! I asked for the manager... She came out and was in full support of her employee!?! She Said that they push 18% and show you how to change it. Which the girl did not do, and I expressed that. I was upset that they just assumed, but I was hoping it was just the young girl that made a mistake. But when the manager validated saying they choose for everyone!?! Nope! I'll go elsewhere! Tried this place for the first time bc of all the great reviews. Taste was ok but the portion size was tiny--one of the smallest rolls I've ever had! The rolls were just barely bigger than a quarter in diameter. We got the chicken katsu too which was a very thin piece of meat with almost the same amount of crust as meat and the entire portion was about the same size as my hand (which is tiny). Four of us tried this for the first time today. The food was excellent. Our waitress, April, was very attentive, funny, and personable. It's apparently a local favorite. When we arrived at 5 pm, there was only one other table occupied. By the time we left, nearly all the tables were full. The only drawback is that as more people are there to dine, the louder it gets as the high ceiling and hard surfaces, enhance the noise levels. But we will definitely go again. read more

Yoko's is my go to sushi place. Great weekly specials and discounts, good variety, great sushi. I do take out maybe once a week (oops). Super easy to order ahead on the app and walk in the pick up door and grab it. Since they're only open for dinner, you gotta time it. I typically order right when they open but she my pick up for later so I don't have to wait as long. If you order ASAP, it can be anywhere from 15mins - an hour so it's best to plan ahead. read more

Tampa has a large selection of quality sushi restaurants; Yoko's is at the top of the list. Very large selection to fulfill the crave. Service is consistently pleasant and efficient. Prices are reasonable and atmosphere is inviting. Great social spot. Always a great experience. Take-out is just as good as dine-in as far as quantity and presentation. Later review: attempted to order via phone. Was placed on hold (phone receiver was on counter) for fifteen minutes while hostess and other employees socialized. This restaurant is still so good! We haven't been here for some time but went a few weeks ago & it's delicious! Place is clean and all the employees nice. Ordered sushi, beef negimaki, pork Katsu & ramen bowl which all tasted amazing! House soup & salad came with some of the meals & of course, still so good! We'll be back for sure. The prices are fair compared to other Japanese restaurants we frequent. This place is good for dates or families. Yoko's is a popular south Tampa Japanese restaurant and sushi bar located in a little shopping center on MacDill Avenue just south of Bay-to-Bay. According to the menu, this family-owned restaurant has been here since 1995. We were there specifically for sushi, and so the hostess / waitress walked us to some available seats at the sushi bar and immediately took our drink order. While reading through the menu, she returned with hot towels for our hands, a pot of hot green tea, and two waters with lemon. We ordered a couple of their specialty rolls to share, and I also ordered some sashimi. For the rolls we ordered the Tuna Dragon roll which was spicy crunchy tuna topped with fresh tuna and finished with spicy mayo, tempura chips, scallion and roe. They were promoting a new roll call Gangnam-style which turned out to be fried grouper with onion and more spicy tuna. This roll was plated with an artistic-blend of four of their signature sauces, and quite yummy. Finally, upon the recommendation of our sushi chef, we finished off with a Saigon Fresh roll which was shrimp, cilantro, jalapeno, cucumber, Daikon radish, carrots, and mixed greens rolled up in a rice-paper wrapper and served with a spicy ponzu sauce -- very light and very delicious! I had a couple of pieces of white tuna and yellowtail sashimi, and we were both quite stuffed after that feast! The restaurant has two sides with a common central sushi bar, and the chefs are able to pass ingredients back and forth through a large cut-out in the wall. One fellow was busy mixing up some sauces, while another was breaking down a fresh mackerel, and the remainder were slicing and dicing to fill the various orders. The atmosphere in Yoko's is very no-nonsense, so sit at the sushi bar if you want some action. The chefs are very good, and they'll chat with you if you ask questions. The sushi & sashimi were delicious, and I saw others ordering traditional Japanese entrees off the menu. I'm not often in south Tampa, but I would gladly become a regular at Yoko's if this was in my neighborhood. read more

According to Sally this place is a must see and after have gone with her I must say: I agree. The Mr. and I went with Sally and her guy to get sushi the other evening. I can't even begin to tell you how phenomenal the whole experience was. We sat at the sushi bar and were waited on hand and foot (keep in mind Sally and her husband were already friends with our sushi chef). We joked, laughed, and ate until we were BURSTING. To be honest I don't know what I ate. Daniel (the sushi guy) just sort of made things and set them in front of me. I asked what they were, he didn't tell me, and I dug in. I'm telling you now: DO THIS. I'm positive I wouldn't have chosen the things he made for me, but I am so, so, so glad that he did. Not only that, but it's fairly priced. For four rolls (two special), hot tea and a diet drink we paid...$33+ tip, I think? Or maybe $38, I can't remember and I'm too lazy to look it up. But coming from Traverse City, Michigan and getting this quality for this price is like heaven on earth man. I would recommend this to anyone who asked about good sushi, I would note that making sure Daniel is working/preparing your stuff is a good idea, and more than that I will be a frequent diner at this oh-so-delicious establishment. read more

A shorter than usual review because too much time has passed and I don't recall the specific sushi rolls we got. However, I had a couple issues with this sushi. First, it took almost 45 minutes to come out. I waited to check in until after we placed our order (to-go) because I've had a nasty habit recently of checking into places after pulling up in the car, only to discover a business was closed (I blame yelp for having inaccurate business times). So we ordered and sat down. When I wanted to figure out how long we were sitting there, I saw I had checked in 42 minutes prior. Food finally came out a couple minutes later after I threatened to leave. I know they were busy, but if your customer makes a to-go order and it's going to be longer than usual, maybe you should tell them so they can decide whether to wait. 45 minutes is unacceptable. Second, the sushi just wasn't that good. There are any number of better sushi places in the region (see my reviews if you're interested, or if you just need something to put you to sleep).. There was an excessive amount of rice, and yes, I know sushi comes with rice. However, this was too much. A thin layer of rice is all there should be. There is better Sushi in Tampa and better service. read more

Fought through my sickness last weekend to take a trip to Yoko's. It had been a while since I visited that part of town so I was surprised to find that Yoko's looks completely different inside. I like the changes. It is a lot more open, you can see the sushi chefs at work so much better. As is our norm, J-Fur and I started with bowls Miso Soup. Yoko's miso soup doesn't stand out any more or less than other miso soups in the area. We also ordered edmame, though this time we went out on a limb and ordered the spicy garlic sesame version. I was disappointed to find that these seemed to be all spice and very little garlic. I would've like to see the garlic side of things dialed up just a bit more. After the soup and edmame we ordered some sushi. We went with the Yam Yam Roll (tempura sweet potato and avocado) and the vegetable roll (cucumber, asparagus, avocado and spinach). Yoko's Yam Yam is the best sweet potato roll I've had. I'm not sure how many people ate potato chip sandwiches when they were young but that is exactly what the yam yam reminds me of. It has a nice, soft, starchy outside and a crunch in the middle. I was pleased to see that Yoko's version of a vegetable roll includes asparagus, avocado and spinach. That is a combination I haven't seen before. It was a pretty good roll too. Not as great as the Yam Yam but still pretty good. The highlight of J-Fur's meal, and the reason we always seem to wind up there on her birthday, was the dessert. Who would've known that one of the best ice cream treats Tampa dishes out actually comes from a Japanese restaurant? The dessert starts with ice cream. It then includes Tempura Oreos throughout. The Oreos are nice and warm and crispy on the outside and meltingly good inside. Pair the warmth of the Oreos with the coolness of the ice cream and you've got a dessert that is very near perfect. The lowdown: Skip the appetizers, go right for the sushi, save room for the tempura oreo dessert. read more

Blah. I ordered the salmon zest roll, sunset roll, and salmon nigiri to go. Salmon nigiri was the best of them all bc it had the most fish. However, one of the reasons I enjoy nigiri is the rice, and this rice here is not good. It's gummy and doesn't have much flavor at all. Totally not a fan. I think soho has the best rice. If their rice were good then I wouldn't have anything negative to say about the salmon zest roll which barely had any salmon at all, and even less lemon. Ugh. The sunset roll is good I guess but doesn't have much flavor on it's own. Take out presentation was terrible. I don't remember shaking around the box much, but everything was all over the place. I truly enjoyed my dinning experience at Yoko's. I had katsu curry and sushi (yup that's a lot of carb in one meal...), curry was freshly made (veggies could be cooked maybe 24hrs more?), and katsu was authentic Japanese style. BUT if you get sushi, its likely going to be the best you've had in a long time... & if you come back, they're likely to have added some new rolls to the menu to keep you interested! If you're in the mood for Japanese, Id highly recommend the Udon or the Yaki Soba with ginger salad. The portions are huge and the ginger dressing is PERFECT!!
