The food was awful. I ordered eggs Benedict, which comes with hash browns and my friend got the scrambled eggs with sausage and hash browns. The food tasted off in a way, like old cooking oil or spoiled water. The hollandaise sauce was the worst and it didn't quite smell right. Walking in at 10, they were surprisingly empty but we got seated immediately, which was nice. They started us with water and drinks, but we were surprised by the size of an orange juice for $3. On the other hand, a matcha latte was $4.75 -- much more worth it (& I added blueberry syrup)! The California Omelet was as you'd expect, and the Chicken or the Egg Sandwich was a bit on the dry side. Both still tasty, just fell a bit short of what I was expecting. Day two in Chicago started with an early wake-up call--because breakfast at Yolk was calling our names. We beat the crowd and scored a great table, and our waiter Nevan couldn't have been nicer (10/10 service right there). Big mostly breakfast oriented menu, and they got us into a booth within minutes when the more famous diner around the corner was running at least a 20 minute wait with a crowded waiting area. Now the service was quite slow, and my buffalo chicken salad was only serviceable -- ice cold lettuce, lukewarm buffalo chicken-- but my children loved their array of pancakes, chicken, and mac and cheese I've done far on adult food at worse at other downtown diners. read more

The prestigious yolk. I went to Yolk to see what it was all cracked up to be. I ordered the chicken and waffles alongside the west coast crepe. The chicken and waffles had an unique touch with the bacon infused in the waffle. This was the extra memorable spark. This dish was a good mixture of sweet with savory. The west coast crepe was interesting because it had a hint of sweet with the crepe, but all the insides were savory. It was delightful. The vibe of the place was amazing with lots of counter seats with tables and booths. Service was quick and attentive. However, I would say it was missing just a little extra to make it a 5 star. I would even say it's a 4.5 rounded down. I can't put my finger on it, but I will definitely recommend coming here and enjoying the yummy yolk. read more

Food is solid; the countryside skillet was a decent size serving, with a little bit of everything, but not a lot of one; bacon, ham, sausage, mushroom, onion, green pepper, cheddar over hash browns and served with pancakes. Hash browns could have been cooked longer to get crisper in the skillet, eggs were a bit overcooked, gravy definitely helped add more flavor, and the pancakes were slightly overcooked, but good taste on it. I've been a loyal yolk customer for 20 plus years, and I used to take my three kids to the one in River North as they were raised in old town. For 20 years I've never had anything but glowing things to say about yolk, but today my child, who is now 17, ordered a scrambler and asked the waiter if there was a limit on ingredients. The server Michael, who was great by the way, said no but he apparently did not understand that my son was trying to ask if it cost more. The omelette was over $30 which is absolutely absurd. I explained this to the manager and she did not care at all and said 'I'm sorry sir It's posted on the menu.' I will never go back. Simply out of principle, what a dim shortsighted response from the manager. She could've tried anything. For example, 'sir. Can I give you a $10 coupon for next time' this would still make Yoke make money. I still took care of the server as he really didn't do anything wrong, but just an awful experience I would give it a -5 stars if I could. Maybe even a 3.75 cause it's better than 3.5 but not quite a 4 for me food-wise. But still a solid spot to start your day. My gf and I shared the corned beef & hash, the chicken or the egg sandwich, and the lemon blueberry pancakes and everything was totally fine. Had a craving for pancakes and Yolk was able to satisfy. Came on a Friday afternoon and was seated promptly. Had the lemon blueberry cakes which are just the right level of sweetness to where you don't need syrup but it isn't painfully sweet if you do add syrup. The drink was not too sweet but was lacking on the chocolate flavor. It would have been best to take the peanut butter while the espresso is hot and whisky it, then mix it in with the milk. The first sip of that latte and I was immediately in love! The flavor was light and perfectly sweet. Id never had chicken and waffles before so I was nervous to try something new. I tend to stick to what I know but in the spirit of my vacation I thought I'd try something different. The chicken was so juicy and flavorful. I went here the day of my boyfriend's birthday for breakfast and when we arrive we were greeted and we were able to sit. This was our first time coming here even though we have one here in Miami we decided to try this location. Both ordered the works omelette with a side of grits and cheesecake pancakes. The omelette was very good and it was full of meat. The grits were good as well. They just needed a little salt and pepper. The pancakes I feel like the syrup helped it a lot because they are not full of sugar and I'm guessing the cheese frosting that they put on it to give it. A cute place! The restaurant had an inviting atmosphere and was clean. The food portions were huge. Price was reasonable! I had their West Coast Crepes with cheesy grits. I LOVED THEIR CHEESY GRITS. I would definitely get it again. Their West Coast crepes were delectable. It tasted yummy with their Yolk habanero hot sauce! I found their signature hot sauce to be more vinegary. Breakfast here was delicious! We ate here several times and each time the food came out very good. I had the biscuits and gravy with two eggs on top. The sides were different as the first time I got red potatoes (delicious) and the second was cheesy grits (again delicious). The biscuits were like home made with a little body to them. The sawdust gravy with sausage was not overly salty and was just the right amount for the biscuits. My coworker got a dish, which I don't remember now and it was very good. You might have to just show the photo to figure out what it was. Apologies. ;) The service was great both times and the staff were all very friendly.
