We are on a search for the best dan dan noodles and decided to try You Kitchen. We called to see what vegetarian options they have and the operator doesn't speak much English. However they do have a couple of options and what definitely enticed me was the sesame green onion pizza. It really is a thick green onion pancake with many layers in a pizza box. I have had a better one in Temple City but You Kitchen is much closer to where I live and it does the job! Definitely my number one order here. The dan dan noodles, dumplings, and cucumber cold dishes we tried were all decent. They're so fresh, perfectly cooked level of chewiness, in piping hot flavors without being overly salty. We ordered: - Dan Dan noodles: 4/5 Always get hand pulled, knife cut or whatever. Zhajiang noodle and Dandan noodle was pretty alright. It's not shockingly good, but also can't really find fault with it. Just okay, i guess. We ordered the Big Mouth Pocket with Pork ($7.99), Pan Fried Pork Buns ($8.99), and Spicy Cucumber Salad with Garlic ($4.50). The big mouth pocket was quite a unique item with a crispy and crunchy layer to hold in all the meat and cilantro topping. I really like the crunch from this, but the filling could use more flavor. I cam here on the weekends during the afternoon. There was no wait most likely due to the pandemic. I ordered xiao long bao and beef pockets. It took about 15 minutes for my order to finish. The beef pockets were very delicious. The outer pocket was a light crunchy and the beef inside wasn't dry. The herbs on top gave it a fragrant favor. The beef pockets did make my throat feel really dry though. The xiao long bao had very thin skin and a nice meaty inside. The one thing I did not like was the light tasting broth inside. This is a quick update to my You Kitchen experience. This time around I ordered to go. I placed an order online via their website and arrived about 35 to 40 minutes later to pick up my order. The lovely lady behind the counter was very generous and even mentioned to me that since I already paid and tipped online and actually told me to just cross out the tip section so I don't get double charged. That was very gracious of her. That aside, the food this time around was very disappointing. The dumplings, which I pride myself as being a dumpling expert was anything but delicious. The texture was not there, in fact it felt like it was under cooked as there was no textural difference in each bite. Usually the skin and the filling have some difference in texture and this time there wasn't any. The noodles, which flavor wise was decent, the noodles itself felt like spaghetti bought from a store than homemade. Overall, it was just quite a disappointing experience going from what I thought was a decent to great dumpling to something that wasn't even edible and if it wasn't for the graciousness of the lady behind the counter, this would have been a one star experience. read more

I've have this spot bookmarked since forever and I finally made the trip out to 626 to do a mini food day. Unfortunately, I totally forgot that the first rule for dining in 626 is to always bring cash, which we've relied on credit card since COVID, so we didn't have enough. We were only able to order 1 item, the Big Mouth Meat Pocket. I really wanted to get the dumplings, but hopefully I'll get a chance to try it next time. Very good. --Shrimp, Pork, Chive fried dumplings: This was the only dish that was disappointing. Not much flavor, despite the ingredients. --Xia Long dumplings: Wonderful. A house speciality. --Pan Moist Fried Buns: Our server mentioned these and they were great. Fluffy like bao, with delicious filling and a crispy bottom. Since we went early, the restaurant was fairly empty, so we we able to take advantage of the knowledge of the staff. When they get busy, you order from a kiosk at the front of the store. When this place opened, I've had this place bookmarked because I love dumplings and noodles. When I saw eater.com write an article about this place, I knew I had to come ASAP so I did. My friend and I came on a Saturday night and we came at around 6:30pm and there weren't that much people. We were seated right away and the place progressively became more full. My friend and I like to over order to try different things and we ended up ordering 6 dishes: Pork Soup Dumplings, Green Onion Pancakes, Chives Pocket, Pan Fried Dumplings, Dan Dan Noodles, and Pork Buns. Some of our foods came out pretty fast and 2 of our items, which I think they forgot, came out almost an hour later. I was pretty annoyed because they are for sure understaffed and they need to hire more people. My favorite dish was the soup dumplings which I've had a lot of soup dumplings in my life as it's from my culture and they have one of the better kinds. I definitely think theirs are better than Mama Lu's and Din Tai Fung for sure. The green onion pancakes were good as well, super crisp and crunchy and flavorful. The chives pocket were juicy and hot as well, tbh nothing too exciting but delicious regardless. The pan fried dumplings weren't the typical shen jiang bao that I'm used to because they're smaller and more watery than what I'm used to which I'm not sure if I like. SKIP the dan dan noodles for sure. It was one of the dishes that took forever to come out because they forgot about it and it was so watery because I don't think they drained the noodles well enough and it was so strong with peppercorn that it was too overwhelming. The thick noodles were good, it had a nice chew and firm taste but the overall fish was just not my favorite. Hope this restaurant gets better because the food is good, but the service definitely needs to get better if they wanna survive in 626. read more

It was extremely easy and seem less. We didn't have to wait for the check to come or anything. Just click pay, Apple Pay and done! The soup dumpling was delicious! I was hoping they had pork and crab option but they only had pork. For the chives and pork dumpling, you can choose boiled, fried (extra $1) or steamed (extra $1). Honestly, I don't know the difference between boiled and steamed and figured it would taste the same so we chose boiled. Very flavorful and they have it frozen so you can buy it to go for home. For the noodles, there was nothing special about it. It taste good but seems very easy to make and ingredients were just thrown in. The preserved veggies were still cold. You order using the kiosk machine where you can see pictures of the food you want to order. You choose where you want to sit as well so the restaurant knows where to place your food. It prints out your receipt and you can either leave cash at the table or pay at the kiosk, entering your order number. The food here has that real authentic taste and I couldn't stop eating. The spicy wontons were fantastic, especially when you add the black vinegar which balances out the flavor. This isn't too spicy either-- just a little kick. The beef noodles -- beef melts in your mouth and I prefer the thin noodles(other style noodles available for extra cost). The soup was just right and came in a healthy portion. Add the cilantro, green onions and extra noodles for free. Beef rolls are amazing in flavor BUT I think it's served in a different style because it was served to us cold. I just brought it to-go and heated it up at home. It tasted better at home hah I highly recommend all these dishes and coming to this small hole in the wall restaurant. It came right out of the steamer. The filling was lacking. You get a lot of bread and not too much filling. I did like the dish and would order it again. An article on LA Eater titled "This Alhambra Restaurant Is the Best New Dumpling Spot in LA" caught my eyes as I was browsing through my Facebook ad this morning. Since I have a serious addiction to Xiao Long Bao and dumplings, I invited a friend to join me for this food adventure. You Kitchen is located in the same plaza as the bowling alley and 101 Noodles near Valley Blvd. and New Avenue. There are plenty of parking available, and I was glad that I made it into the restaurant and placed my order before the chaos started. There are no paper menu available at this restaurant. You order what you want through the kiosk either at the front or the back of the restaurant. But before doing so, I highly recommend securing your own table so that you can do it correctly. Ordering was fairly simple, food were separate into categories, but it might get stressful when you are trying to browse through the menu with more than 10 people standing behind waiting to use the machine. The front of the restaurant is ran by one Chinese lady. Sweet lady, but sometimes forgetful. I felt sorry for her because everyone was punching incorrect table numbers and she had to figure out the orders one by one. The kitchen is kinda slow too. If they are going to continue getting crowds like this, they should hire a second helper - especially someone to help with the ordering kiosk. The food is amazing. Oh the blessing and curse when a business is featured in a local online publication! My friend and I took the chance and went last night at 830pm, one hour before the my closed. We were blessed with close parking, no line and a party just leaving the table. You order, solidify your seat and pay at this kiosk in front. It's best if you research beforehand because there's no paper menu. Customer service is focused more on making your dishes fresh and tending to tables. The person who helped us was very sweet and she was by herself. The owner and other staff ran the kitchen. We ordered the following: - egg pillows with cilantro: order comes with what she say and it was very delicious! Lightly fried and the filling was perfectly seasoned. - spicy wontons: definitely labeled as one of my favorites here. Mix the wontons up with the sauce before serving on your plate. It's a great mix of vinegary, spicy goodness! I'm definitely ordering this again. - Big mouth pockets: the best I personally have had! Not greasy and not overly seasoned like one ones I've had before. Another one labeled as my favorite! - steamed dumplings: so good! Casing is not too thick, filling of shrimp and pork is very flavorful that you don't really need to dip it in soy sauce. - soup dumplings: of all the places I've been to, I'd put this my second favorite ( Din Tai fung being my first.) i'm not an expert but I admit, I wasn't a fan of XLB until having DTF and now, You Kitchen. I came here when they first opened and again this past week. Quality and service 10/10. Food was very good and they sell 50count frozen dumplings to go which is great if you want to share with family and friends at home. As soon as you walk in, there's a touch screen kiosk on your left where you order your food and choose your table indicated by the numbers (You'll have to look around which tables are available). The food will then be dropped off at your table. They do take card, but it's cheaper if you pay cash. Big mouth buns - These resembled pita sandwiches. The dumplings here are good but wait time is long! Make sure you're not coming here when HANGRY. All the dumplings are handmade and probably made to order since the main entrees arrived 40 mins after we ordered. This place a bit unique in a way that you order through a kiosk first before you get to sit down. It was super easy to use but may take you a bit of time to look through the whole menu to see what you want. SPICY WONTON: Good thing we ordered the spicy wontons, since those were appetizers, it came out first. These were actually my friends favorite. She liked it due to them using wonton skin so these were super smooth and they just slide into your mouth. I wonder if they hand make the wonton skin. The only downside is that they're super tiny imo so there's not a lot of filling in them. PAN FRIED SHRIMP PORK CHIVE DUMPLING: These were my favorite and what I was craving for. These were super delicious. They are perfectly pan fried on one side and super juicy on the inside. SOUP DUMPLINGS: Honestly, these were meh. Not enough soup inside so it wasn't juicy at all. Din Tai Fung is still the best place to get soup dumplings and I have yet to find a place that even compares to it. Love the ZiMa DaBing (Sesame Big Bread?) - baked crispy crust with crunchy sesame seeds on the outside. Soft layered bread with savory green onion goodness on the inside. The bread is the size of a personal pizza but 5x thicker. Other Northern staples include ShengXianBao (fried pork Baos), CongYouBing (scallion pancakes), dumplings. The owner is kind, and always has a smile on her face as she encourages us to try something new.
