    House Special Fried Rice
    Julie R.

Wow. The Portland Vegan Facebook group steered me wrong. 4.5 stars on here led me to believe the food would be great. I HATE wasting food but will likely throw most of it out. The fried rice has a very strange flavor. We plan to try re-cooking and seasoning it ourselves. I ordered a couple of the dinner combos to try different things. The cashew and veggie dish has good crunch and flavor, as well as the beef and broccoli. The crispy tofu was soggy from sauce, which I didn't expect, and all the things I expected to be coated in sauce- orange chicken, general tso chicken, were dry and the batter has a strange aftertaste. The egg rolls had it too and tasted like slimy onion rings. I wanted to love this place. Would be willing to try more traditional dishes but sadly I don't think I have the courage to give this place another try or more of my money.

Amazing vegan Chinese food with spectacular service! My boyfriend has been raving about this place for years. And, I'm so glad we stopped by when we made it to Portland. The ladies who run this place are sweet and helpful. To get the full experience, we ordered three different combinations which came with a bunch of entrees. Their meat substitute seemed to vary on the dish. Their seitan was pretty good and savory. Some of dishes did taste like fake meat but I had no issue with this. Everything was savory and hit on classic Chinese flavors. Definitely a favorite of ours in Portland!

The food is always amazing here ! The fry on everything is absolutely perfect. The flavors are immaculate. The service is always so friendly and quick. The women who work here are always so kind. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The building is amazing and huge with a stage.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's usually empty so no worries about loud noises just good food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is pretty basic so you're going to be coming here for the food.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The restaurant has its own parking lot with plenty of spots. [[HIGHLIGHT]]On a Saturday night, it was pretty empty so I wish more people would show this place some love.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This restaurant is a very rare combo of vegetarian + Chinese American food. Several family members eat vegan and this is our go to place when we eat out. We ordered the veggie lamb hot pot, tofu stir fry, veggie sea cucumber stir fry with a side of rice and it was all delicious. I am a meat eater and the lamb could have fooled me!! Generous portions! 1 dish per person plus some rice should make for a hearty meal.

This was my first time visiting this restaurant. It's called vegetarian, but it's all vegan. And they make their own seitan there! They have a lot of seating, and it seems like it would be a great place to go out to eat with a group of friends. They don't have any outdoor seating unfortunately, so I ordered takeout. Parking was easy on a Saturday night at 7pm. I ordered through the website, and it was very easy to use. Rice is $1 extra for each cup. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken and the Kung Pao Chicken. Both were made with their housemade seitan and were DELICIOUS. It cost about $35 for both meals and a cup of rice. If you're not a big eater, you could probably get 2 meals out of an entree.

Yuan Su serves all-vegetarian Chinese food. (Perhaps all vegan? Hard to tell, as they don't have a full website.) They're in a giant red building off Powell and 111th so it's not exactly a happening part of the city or a fun dinner destination. I ordered takeout for lunch recently. Service stood out as above and beyond, from helping me decide what to order on the phone, greeting me when I walked in, having the order ready in about 10 minutes, packaging the order in a box to go, helping me with a complicated payment. The restaurant was nearly empty when I went to pickup. It's a huge space, somewhat spartan in decor. Looks like the building used to be used for something else. I ordered beef and broccoli, kung pao chicken, mapo tofu, potstickers, and rice. It was all good but not necessarily amazing. Portions were large enough for leftovers. Main dish prices were about $14-18 so a little pricey depending on what you get. If I go back, I will keep working my way through their menu to see what dishes are my favorite and how they adapt them to be vegetarian/vegan.

Tried for the first time and loved it. Had the spring rolls, pot stickers , house fried rice and orange chicken. Everything was delicious and server super friendly. Very good service. We did go at lunch time so it was not busy. Will definitely be back.

I always love the food here. Everything is vegan and delicious. I'm still making my way through trying the whole menu. Haha. So far my favorites are the hot and sour soup (great for sharing), the veggie pork belly with taro in hot pot, and the tumeric fried rice. Their lunch combos are also amazing.

Absolutely love this place!! All their food is amazing I've loved every dish. My favorites are general tso chicken, beef and broccoli, bbq pork fried rice, and the Kung pao chicken.

Ask the Community - Yuan Su Vegetarian

Are they open for dine-in yet?

Yes went in last week to pick up my order and saw three tables full. But who knows when that will change again so call first to ask

Is the menu all vegan? Is it safe for a child who has egg, dairy, peanut, and tree nut allergies?

The menu is all vegan. There are nuts in some dishes though.

Does anyone know if the meat replacements are made in house, or can they be bought somewhere?

Try Fubonn Asian market on 82. Or SF supermarket also on 82. Both carry a good selection of Faux 'meat'

We came on Thursday night so there was live jazz which was incredible. Let's get into the Food, (everything came out fast! ) Nokoss wings: Whatever sauce is on top is addicting! Very aromatic and very flavorful, enjoyed it a lot, will be thinking about these wings for a while. Goat stew and jollof and plantains: note, I am Nigerian so (I am biased lol) my expectations were very high. The Goat was tender, plantains very perfect, and stew on the sweeter side. Jollof wars out of mind, i appreciated the simplicity of the rice and stew. Poulet Braisse: 1000/10, seasoned, tender, filling. Definitely would order 100x again. We do not have this in Nigeria and I'm very jealous. Overall, as a fellow West African, I was really proud to see an African restaurant not only doing really well but being a pillar of the community. Very filling, and I took some of my meal home. My family also really enjoyed their meals. We all loved trying something new, and a lot of people had positive reviews of it. You can find parking on the street or there's a lot to the left of the restaurant just across the street. Side note, if you're wanting to go on Juneteenth, make a reservation! It fills up quickly.

BEST MEAL IN PORTLAND!!!!!…read more Saw this place randomly while looking for a place to eat after a long flight. It was late and not many places were open. This place was closed but a middle eastern place that serves cheesecake was soo intriguing that i knew i needed to come back. Came back Saturday night and they had no tables and was packed. However, they tried to accommodate us so much. However, the night was in our favor. As we started to order take out, a lady was kind enough to give up her table since she was eating alone. It was a small table for 3 people but the staff was sooo accommodating i have no words. They even gave free dessert to the lady who was kind. Then luck would have it, the table next to us never showed up for their reservation so they gave us that table. Finally, we ordered. Turned out, i also got the last shawarma too. Everything happens for a reason! We also got the Saudi chicken kabsa and cheesecakes. The biggest compliment i can give is when the food came, none of us talked for a good 5-7 mins and just sat there in heaven eating. The flavors were soo unique but yet so familiar. If this is Saudi food, i have been missing out. I need to explore more sub categories of middle eastern cuisine. Best bites in Portland for us and that's all i have to describe our experience. Finally, got the Nutella cheesecake and almond caramel cheesecake. I have to say, Nutella was good but easily a skip compared to almond and caramel. Just get 2 of those and you'll be happy. The cakes itself are light and not heavy. They were great end to a great meal. This is a family owned but family loved business. You can see the love as they serve their guests but you can taste the love too. The people are soo sweet and kind and just want to serve you. Please give your love here, because if i lived in Portland, this would my weekly spot.

I am going back next week to try the other half of the menu and cannot wait! This is a must- go restaurant as there is something for everyone, vegan, vegetarian or carnivore The cheesecakes? The atmosphere was lively and I loved the industrial, modern decor. I went on a busy Friday night and was sat right at my reservation time. Our server was personable and friendly. They had a small mocktail selection with creative options. I went with the "worth a chai", which was spicy, sweet, and tangy. The tasting menu was $75 each for two people and we got a total of 9 dishes and left full and with leftovers. Not one dish wasn't delicious and I enjoyed how each dish had an unexpected flavor or textural element to keep things interesting. All the ingredients felt fresh and the dishes were bright in color and taste. Despite the larger quantity of food, the meal overall felt well- balanced, healthy, and not too heavy or decadent. I keep thinking about the hamachi crudo that came with this amazing smoky eggplant that complemented the vinaigrette on the fish perfectly. The radicchio salad was addictingly good with the fruity burst of sweetness from the cherries. The hummus is insanely rich and pairs well with the thick, fluffy pita. I could keep going on about each dish, but these were my absolute standouts. I especially appreciated the timing of the dishes. New dishes came out right as we were finishing the last. The labneh was more like Greek yogurt than cheese, which isn't a bad thing, but I would have liked a little more saltiness. The Harissa Spice Shrimp, on the other hand, was fantastic. Definitely the standout item we actually ordered. The Baked Eggplant was good too, although it didn't quite wow me. I think there was some mix up, as we were first served the Roasted Eggplant Dip. We flagged the server down to say it wasn't what we ordered, but they let us keep it. Boy were we happy about this! It was the best dish of the night (and a must reorder). The pita to go with the Labneh and the Dip was excellent too. Piping hot and just right.
