First time and last time! Food was pretty good but at the very end of our meal we saw a rat crawling out from the space between the ceiling and wall of the kitchen/ pay area. Super gross When I let the guy at the register know he looked dumbfounded and said " well we are in the desert miss" tell that to a health inspector this week and see how they feel about that. Saved this place to try while staying in Yucca Valley. Their shawarma gyro pita wrap was a highlight of mine this trip. I had an issue with the first wrap and they replaced it with another. The pita went well with the gyro meat, tahini sauce and salad. Great portion and each bite had a little bit of everything which I appreciate. We also ordered their chicken noodle soup because my husband wasn't feeling well. It was homemade, Mediterranean style. He mentioned it was one of the best he's ever had! This is a family owned restaurant. So, if you want kibbeh, call them to make sure they have some since it sells out quickly. I have tried the chicken plate, the lamb shawarma, kibbeh, chicken gyro, falafel, Greek salad, hummus, baklava and other stuff I can't remember. All has been pretty good. It can sometimes be a hit or miss depending on who is in the kitchen and at the cash register. The last time I was there, I ordered hummus and I got this large thing of hummus with one pita bread in the plastic, not good. It was a joke and if I had had time, I would have gone back to complain and get more pita bread. Oh, and the one he gave me was old and hard. So, that happened. I think it was a cousin cuz it wasn't the sons I usually see when I go there. I have recommended this place to a lot of people who tried it out and liked it. Most times I order to go, but the few times I ate there, the service was ok, nothing great. The guys seem very laid back and quiet. Some even seem like they are mad to be there at times. I laugh about it. I guess it's hard working with family. But even with that, the food is really good. If they make a mistake with food, they apologize and try to make things right. I would definitely recommend and continue to tell people to try it out since it's the only middle eastern food in yucca valley. But that's not to say that is the reason it is good. I eat a lot of middle eastern food in LA and this is definitely in my top five of restaurants. If they were in LA, they would be a top place to go for food. The only item available was Shawarma. I worked in restaurants for a very long time. At 18, I worked in a sandwich shop that was open till midnight when I had school the next day. I worked in a sports bar that was open to 2 am. Rain or shine, busy or not, we were open. Even as a kid, if someone walked in at 11:59 pm, with my shiny grill all ready to be shut off, I would cook the food ordered. Why? Because that was my job. Because someone got in their car to drive over because we had posted hours on the door. Not this place. No soup and nothing grilled after 8 pm even though they don't close till 9 pm. Apparently restaurants have lost their purpose. I thought it was to provide a service, food, hospitality, atmosphere. Something has changed since covid. Not just here but across the country where customers are no longer there to be pleased but more to conform to the hours that whoever is working that night feels like working. And now apparently, we don't get the full pick of the menu, only what the people in the back feel like preparing. How about don't clean up too early so you can make food? The fattoush salad, gyro shawarma wrap, kofta kababs were out of this world! Mint tea mmm mmm! Mint lemonade is a must try! This was our dinner choice on a Saturday night after exploring Joshua Tree for a group of 4 people and it didn't disappoint. When everything in town was booked, I called Yucca Kabob and they had a table available. The interior is small and cozy, but comfortable. The Hookah lounge is separate from the restaurant, so you don't have to worry about the smoke. For food, I had the gyro platter and the baba ganoush. The baba ganoush is super smoky, but a tasty little snack with the pita. The gyro platter was two thumbs up. I also tried a little bit of the falafel wrap and enjoyed it. This restaurant not only has great food but an awesome spot outside with tables (and heat lamps for when it's cold at night!) where you can smoke hookah and drink tea. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. My brother and I both got the vegetarian plate and loved it (super fresh ingredients: great combo of rice, falafel, salad, grape leaves, and pita) while my other brother got the chicken shawerma sandwich and also really loved it. The wait staff/owners were very friendly, attentive, and answered any questions we had. While we smoked hookah after dinner outside, the owner brought over his own hookah with a flavor that they were trying out that night to see if they wanted it on the regular menu and offered it to me and my brothers to try. Maybe we just don't like Mediterranean food, but the chicken was dry and it was on a bed of what was basically Rice-a-Roni. Hummus wasn't good either. Salad had hardly any dressing. This is the third time we've tried this place and I'm thinking it's the last. The people who work there are never very friendly and the prices are ridiculous. We tossed ours straight into the trash. Amazing food, flavor, and service. Portions were generous. Only a 4 star because I ordered a lot of food. And got a huge portion of the cucumber yogurt sauce and got one pita to eat it with. But I just put it on everything, salad, the main entree and still had more to eat. My husband who is super picky said it was good. Have you ever looked at a menu and thought that everything sounded so good so you end up ordering one of everything? Yeah. That's totally what happened here. Driving through the desert, we were looking for a place with a cool patio type vibe and found yucca kabob. The outdoor seating area was a desert oasis. Quiet with a beautiful overhead view of the stars. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share while my friend puffed on some watermelon hookah. Here are the apps in order of favorite: 1. Yogurt cucumber. This was the all star of apps. I'm so glad we ordered it because it was actually a last minute addition I tossed out to the waiter. The yogurt was tangy and the cucumber was crisp. The added spices provided a slightly sweet warmth. Please order this for the table to share! Trust me. 2. Hummus. It's a classic standard but I really enjoyed this blend. The spices were on point as was the amount of oil. 3. Greek salad. The key to any salad is the flavor of the dressing and the amount. Both were done perfectly and the feta cheese was generous. Anything with ample feta wins me over. 4. Falafel. This can be hit or miss because falafel is typically dry. I did like that they served it in what I believe was tahini. It was one of the better bites of falafel I've had in awhile. The tahini became absorbed into the falafel which was pleasant and counteracted any dryness. 5. Oregano toast. I was most excited about this plate. Perhaps my expectations were too high but this is the one that fell flat. The bread was cut way too thick for it to be considered a toast. And the amount of garlic overpowered the oregano. It left me wishing for regular ole garlic bread instead. But I can forgive the one blunder considering how yummy everything else was. I vibed on this place and hope to come back next time I'm in the area. However if you are coming for hookah my friend said it was pretty weak. I do not smoke hookah and cannot provide input but he claims that the pipe wasn't set up in a manner that allowed it to function at capacity. He struggled to inhale the stuff. But that doesn't change my rating at all. I'm going with food and the all star server. I'm just tossing my friends opinion on for you hookah folks. This place serves bomb inexpensive eats! read more

With limited options available in Joshua Tree for dinner after 8 pm (even on a Friday night), we first went to the Pho/Vietnamese place where we sat down for 15 minutes without anyone coming to take our order then aborted and went to Yucca Kabob and Hookah. They were doing take out only and said it would be 20-25 minutes, which turned out to be about right (we thought it would be faster given the lack of customers in the restaurant). I had the chicken kabob plate, which albeit a bit pricey was a generous serving size of rice, two chicken kabobs, hummus, salad and a piece of pita bread. Our server came right away and gave us the menus. Items are reasonably priced and have a variety of items. Soft drinks are under $3.00 and meals are typically under $15.00. I ordered a Diet Coke and gyro plate. Both were underwhelming. The Diet Coke was flat- no fizz at all. It also had a weird taste, probably from the ice. I literally had a sip or two and that was all I could handle. I also ordered the gyro plate which came with slices of gyro on top of rice, salad, hummus, and a side of pita. The pita was store bought, the hummus tasted off, and the gyro and rice were okay but not tasty. It was a pretty disappointing meal. In a new town and not sure what to have for dinner, YELP to the rescue. Luckily it was a short drive from where we were staying and just the name was enticing enough. When we arrived two booths were occupied and by the time we left more people had arrived, one person came for take out. I thought the shaven pieces of chicken were delicious, the hummus creamier than most and the salad generously plated, fresh and happy if you can describe veggies that way. I had a baklava to go as I wanted to catch the dessert sunset and darn near missed it since the sun was setting behind the mountain. The beverages, diet coke, diet Dr. Pepper and rootbeer were flat seemingly lacking carbonation and tasted s bit off perhaps from the ice cubes. If you're old enough to remember "mainland" water tasting different from 808 water. Anyways, the baklava was absolutely divine!!! Flaky and with each bite, while waiting for the next bite, the honey was daintily dripping from within. That made a 3 star review into a 4. Both the young man who took our order and his mom who was the cashier were so very gentle, smiley and wanted to make sure their customers enjoyed the food they served.
