Yumi's is such a unique experience and high-quality matcha! You take a number outside of the little shop and wait for your number to be called. The wait can be pretty long but there's plenty of seating inside The Carmody. Only one party is allowed inside the shop and you get to watch Yumi make your drink. Her and her husband are so friendly. I got a matcha latte and it was amazing, the perfect level of sweetness. They aren't open every weekend, but I lucked out and they were open this Sunday morning.
We went on a Saturday morning at 9 a.m. and waited one hour for our turn at coffee. It's a small menu and you choose what you want. My companion and I each had one of the coffee "specials" on the menu. It is served in a togo cup as there is no seating in the shop itself. There is seating in the hallway of the building.
I absolutely loved this experience. It's pretty self explanatory. Grab a number and she'll come out and call you when your spot is ready. It's a private intimate experience with 2 chairs, and she makes your drink in front of you. For my first time, I wanted to try the signature drinks, so ordered the matcha and the Japanese caramel style latte. Usually milk style lattes are too much for me but both were perfectly made and balanced. I loved watching the matcha whisking process and the measurements and weighing for the latte. She truly makes the experience an art form. I can't wait to come back!
Finally got to try this place out after trying to get my schedule lined up to when they were open. It's a cozy little cafe with only 2 seats inside the Carmody. There's limited parking because it's shared with all the vendors that are inside the Carmody. You have to pull a number and then they call you when they're ready to take your order. I highly recommend getting here right when they open at 10am because I was hoping to try the baked goods but they were all sold out by the time I got there at 115pm. We waited about 35 minutes but there were lots to look at and their was a cute little waiting area to sit with japanese magazines and playing cards. I got the Kuromitsu matcha latte iced and that was really delicious, but I really want to try it hot next time. I can't wait to go back here again. It's such a cute little cafe and Yumi and her husband are so friendly.
This was a coffee experience that made me feel like I had been transported to a coffee shop in Japan! The shop is hidden inside the Carmody marketplace. The shop itself is small and there are instructions outside to take a number and you will be called in. The shop is run by a former barista who worked in a coffee shop outside Tokyo. The drinks are made to perfection in terms of temperature, size, and latte art. I can't recommend this place enough - it was a really cool experience!
Yumi is the absolute sweetest! I'm so glad I had the pleasure of meeting her and getting to know about her story. When you arrive, expect there to be a little bit of a wait depending on what time you come. You pull a number, and have a seat until she calls your number. The shop is small, so only one group at a time is allowed inside, which makes for a great, cozy, intimate experience. We got two matchas with the kiromitsu cream top, and it was delicious! The cream top added a nice sweetness that wasn't overly sweet. The matcha is sourced straight from Japan, and you can taste the quality and richness. The best part is definitely the whole experience. I loved being able to talk to Yumi and watch her make our delicious drinks. Looking forward to coming back!
Had a lovely time here with a lovely friend qt Yumi's shop. The space is cozy and intimate and when we got here around 9 AM on a weekday there was only one party ahead of us. We waited for maybe 20 minutes before we were called and by the time we left there was already a sizable number of people waiting for their turn to have some incredible coffee and tea. I had the miso caramel latte. You can tell Yumi puts so much passion into what she does to craft an exceptional beverage. It was very well balanced in flavor with some of the smoothest coffee I've had. It wasn't overly sweet which I appreciated. Prices are very fair for the high quality of what you get. Yumi was very polite and friendly. It was such a pleasant experience and I'd love to go again sometime for more delicious drinks.
When I first heard about Yumi's Coffee on social media and read her story, I've been dying to visit! And she just recently opened up her own space in The Carmody which is an adorable shared space for various businesses. Yumi's Coffee is a niche experience similar to various cafés in Japan, where you have an intimate one on one seating with their barista. Yumi has a beautiful quaint space, decorated with various Japanese artwork and a charming coffee bar table which seats two guests. We arrived at 8:50 AM and within 25 mins, we were invited in. I would say right when she opens at 8AM, for the first hour, you would have less than a 20 minute wait. But after 9AM, we noticed that more visitors arrived and the wait looked to be 1+ hour long. The queuing system is very convenient because you grab a number and you could relax nearby as there are plenty of seats and tables. Let me tell you though, it's totally worth the wait! Japan is absolutely one of my favorite countries and being in her space brought back fond memories. She chatted with us as she prepared our drinks. I just loved watching her personally create my matcha drink with her intricate methods. She recommended that it was served hot, but you do have the option for iced. Wow the Kuromitsu Matcha Latte was such a high quality and tasty matcha without a hint of bitterness. My friend also enjoyed her Miso Caramel Latte. We both had her homemade Japanese basque cheesecake and it was so delicious and light, not overly sweet, just perfect. In keeping with the Japanese tradition, Yumi politely declined tipping, which made the whole experience feel so authentic and warm. This whole experience with Yumi was incredible, she's so sweet, much gratitude to her and I can't wait to visit again!

Miso Caramel Latte (I ordered iced): well-roasted, no bitter aftertaste, had a mellow taste that was neither purely miso or caramel, not overly sweet, tasted "deep" probably from the miso Matcha Latte (I ordered hot): her matcha was very well-balanced, not super bitter like a lot of other Japanese matcha, and not super milky sweet. It really gives a true matcha flavor without going overboard, I highly recommend I would treat this coffee shop as a dining experience. I would dedicate a good amount of your day if you plan to come. And it will be worth it.

After taking a number you can comfortably wait in the hallways that are lined with a few tables, chairs and power outlets. When your number is up, Yumi, the owner/ barista/hostess will personally escort you to her small but bright and welcoming suite. The small but original menu offers baked goods, cortados lattes, non coffee lattes and specialty beverages. The vibe of this space clicks with the other gem, clothing, tattoo and hair salons within the Carmody shopping center. You order from the unique menu offering baked goods, cortados lattes, non coffee lattes and specialty beverages. The Kuromitsu matcha latte is served iced due to the cold foam but my daughter requested she could try the kuromitsu match latte hot. ($7.5) with the kuromitsu on the side. Honoring the customer's desire, Yumi gladly accommodated. I ordered the miso caramel latte. ($7.) Both drinks were tasty. The Kuromitsu had a rich taste like molasses but with less bitterness. Mix this with milk and it's like a dessert! The miso and caramel combined sweet with savory to produce a distinctive taste. My daughter and I each believed we had ordered the better drink, but after swapping sips, we were surprised to find ourselves preferring each other's instead! Be sure to leave ample time for ordering and enjoying this one on one experience. The wait times vary depending on how many customers are ahead of you. Tanoshimu! read more
I've been visiting Yumi's coffee for a while now and after every visit I am reminded why Yumi's is the best! This has been, consistently, my favorite cup of coffee (latte) that I've ever had. Yumi has mastered her craft with espresso and matcha. While I do usually get latte's here, i do occasionally get a matcha or try my wife's, and the matcha is equally as great. When visiting Yumi, it isn't your typical coffee shop experience, you don't wait in line to have your order taken, then wait for your order at a counter. Rather, you get to have a personal experience with Yumi (and sometimes her husband Brett) as she crafts you the perfect drink! Brett and Yumi are always great company and I really enjoy getting to chat it up with them each time we go! Not only is the company and drinks good, but the assorted, rotating pastries and treats are delicious! There are flavors that I wouldn't have thought of mixing or trying before. Each time I go, I always make sure to get something to eat, everything I've had has been delectable! Depending on the time of day, the queue can get a little long, however there are plenty of interesting magazines to look through spread out in the seating area of the Carmody that are fun to look through! The drinks, company, experience and treats are well worth the wait. I absolutely recommend visiting Yumi next time you're looking for a coffee or matcha! Yumi is the sweetest soul. The entire experience feels very special as she only allows one party in the shop at a time. You are able to chat with her and watch her make your drink. Her shop is located inside the Carmody, an adorable little shopping center with many great shops and plenty of places to sit and wait or work from. I got the seasonal Sakura Matcha both times I've gone and I'm currently dreaming about it. The matcha is absolutely amazing and the sakura flavor compliments it without being overpowering in the slightest. The matchas are also very slightly sweetened which is perfect. Yumi's is a 10 out of 10 would recommend!! First of all Yumi (owner/ barista) is such a kind sweet soul! I've only been once, but you can just tell with how she interacted with customers and in how she created this space. She had a little box where you can keep your stamp card, because let's face it, how many times have you asked for a stamp card but you never bring it back or you keep it elsewhere so you end up having to ask for a new one. I'm guilty! This system was genius!! IMO. It is a pop-up coffee shop so you won't find her every day at the Churchill/ Neighborhood Market. But she posts her schedule on her instagram. My usual coffee was made perfectly! Honey Oatmilk Latte. I did want to try her Oatmilk Brew, but she ran out by the time I got there. read more

The coolest coffee experience in all the valley!! Yumi is super gracious and welcoming. Feels like an omakase-like experience. They source Japanese roasted coffee from Mameya in Laguna Niguel. Ordered the lemon cake and pour over. It feels like being transported to Japan from Central Phoenix. It's located in a co-op commercial space. Will definitely be a regular read more

Yumi's is such a special experience. Yumi has such a kind and warm spirit, and I could feel the care that went into preparing my drink. Definitely plan on waiting in the line outside the door; I can't imagine there is often not a wait. But it's absolutely worth it if you're not in a rush! read more
Best matcha in Phoenix, hands down!! I finally made it out to this small, weekends-only coffee cart at Dig It Gardens to try their special: a sakura strawberry latte. The drink was delicately crafted with hand-whisked matcha and topped with the cutest garnishes. Plus, the matcha was clearly high-quality -- so green, smooth, and mildly earthy. Plan for a wait. It did take us an hour to get our drinks, but I really respect that this was designed to be a place to ~slow down~. Yumi is really intentional with her craft, and her partner truly takes the time to have personable conversations with every guest. Park on the street and come in to enjoy the music, the plants, and your company! read more
Visited Yumi's in my search for the best matchas in the valley, and this one did not disappoint! My sister and I both had iced matchas - no added flavoring, because they didn't have a special at the time. We also had the banana loaf. SO GOOD! The matcha was a perfect bright green and the flavor was exquisite. Banana bread was moist and flavorful. The service was phenomenal. Yumi and her partner were kind and conversational. They did not accept tips and just requested we come back and visit. The spot in Dig It gardens is a nice atmosphere as well. Lush and relaxing while enjoying our morning drinks. Well worth the wait of over an hour lol. My friend and I decided to try this place the moment it opened its door and welp the wait was over an hour. But I think it was worth the wait. I love how cozy it is and we get to talk to Yumi privately as she makes our coffee and matcha. The design of the place is simple but very Japanese like. I would love to come back. read more

I found out about Yumi's Coffee on instagram, and just had to check it out. Yumi's Coffee is at Dig It Gardens on the weekends. Dig It Gardens is a cute indoor/outdoor space that houses plants for sale, and features local cats as well! Yumi and her husband, Brett, are so friendly and focused on great customer service. There can be a bit of a wait, but it's a 2 person operation and they do their best to connect with each customer. There usually is a limited edition drink special for the month, and also on certain weekends, there are pastries for sale too. I've gotten their normal latte, matcha latte, and chocolate chip matcha loaf, and all were tasty! Follow their IG page for their hours and specials! Sometimes they are stationed at a local event during the week or instead of at Dig It Gardens. P.S. You may have more luck interacting with the cats earlier in the day. Though the workers at Dig It Gardens said by the afternoon, some cats will hang out / nap in the potted plants. read more

Amazing matcha in a beautiful setting! Yumi's is at Dig It Gardens on the weekends, so it's the perfect place to stroll the gardens and get some plants while sipping on a yummy coffee or matcha. I haven't ordered matcha in a while since I can be picky about it, but I got one today with oat milk, it was perfect! Great mix of sweet and earthy! They also had treats from 360 bakery so sticking with the matcha theme I got a slice of a matcha chocolate chip loaf, which was extremely moist and tasty. The owners were incredibly nice too! Can't wait to bring my sister here when she's in town! And my friend who loves plants and coffee! read more

i'm back AGAIN... to say how amazed i am yet again at yumi and her vision. she opened a brick and mortar shop at the carmody and it's perfect. it's such a beautiful space and is such a great match energy-wise for her and her business. i've gotten the chance to become closer to her and i'm so inspired every time i leave her presence. so so so happy for her and i hope she continues to grow! this is my favorite coffee/matcha spot in the valley by far. read more

I visited from California and I was fascinated by the experience. When you walk into Yumi's space it truly feels like you've been taken to a different place. There can be a long line & the wait can be quiet long but its just Yumi. She offers the attention and care for everyone making sure the experience is never forgotten. I truly don't drink Matcha on a daily but comparing it to a Starbucks or any other café spot I've tried. Yumi was quite obscure and different given me the authentic taste. read more

I'm a coffee girly and this was the best ice latte I have had in a long time! Trust me I have ALOT of coffee. So smooth and not acidic! Love the aesthetics of the station! Service was hands down the best I have EVER had at a coffee shop! Music and atmosphere was exactly what you would expect on a lovely Saturday morning! If I wasn't breastfeeding I would get a second latte before heading out. read more

she creates this little space to serve one set of customers at a time. create an intimate relationship with the customer and the matcha is pretty good. Perfect balance of the matcha and agave. the price on menu also included tax and no tips required! as it should!! read more
