I was next door getting my nails done and needed a little caffeine fix on my way out, and this was just the spot. I believe the owner of Slain Studios is also the owner of Crete, and you can tell by the similar interior design. The concrete is sleek and modern, and is something you don't see typically here in Phoenix- it definitely feels like a shop out of LA. There's lots of room to sit, and it looks like a good spot to get some work done. I had been here before and tried the strawberry matcha like a year ago, and I have to say it's not my favorite. I think it was quite milky, and I wasn't able to taste the matcha really, but maybe it was a off day? I have been super into sea salt foam Vietnamese coffee lately, so opting for the Ca Phe Sea Salt was a no brainer, and this was perfect. The foam is sooo good, and is delightfully creamy, without being too heavy. The coffee flavor was strong, and I felt that it was very authentic to a true Vietnamese coffee. I will definitely be back for that! I did try the black sesame banana bread as well, and the butter on it was a great addition, but I don't know if I would order it again (not a huge fan of black sesame personally, and the flavor was pretty strong). The staff member was very nice, and he was able to give me a good recommendation on the size of the coffee, since I didn't want too much caffeine. He also offered to heat up my banana bread, provide the butter to go, and then even walked around the counter to give me my items. Second stamp on my coffee passport and this place was such a good find! I'm a huge fan of Vietnamese coffee, so I got excited as soon as I saw it on the menu. The barista also mentioned that the shop is Vietnamese-owned which made me appreciate it even more. My coffee was absolutely delicious and easily one of my favorites I've had recently. We stopped by Crete after seeing it on TikTok. The place is really clean and simple in the best way. My friend and I ordered matcha and our other friend got a hibiscus tea. They both loved their drinks. Mine was good too, but I ordered the banana matcha and it tasted more like a banana foster style syrup, which is totally fine, just not what I am used to. That part is on me, not them, because their matcha quality was good. The staff was great and really fun to talk to. One of the guys told us he was from Dallas and said we were his third Houston customers of the day since there was a University of Houston vs University of Arizona game that week. This place has been on my list for a while. A good friend recommended. I'm so glad we finally got to try it. The inside vibe is very clean and industrial. Concrete tables. Cozy couch seating. A nice place to work or do homework and study. It's busy but not too loud, and has good music playing. It is on a busy road, and there's some parking to the left or a parking lot on the right. It is unassuming. My friend did not want to go inside at first when we drove by. I'm so glad we did. The drinks were phenomenal. I tried the taro matcha with coconut milk. This is a very cool hip spot. Parking is not ideal, I had to go around and park in a neighborhood. There are a few long tables with booth seating along one side and no chairs on the other side and a couch in the corner. You can fit four or five people on one side of each table. The theme is stone and white. The booth cushions are very comfortable but the table is awkwardly far away so I have to lean so far to work on my computer... I ended up putting it on my lap. I went at 10am on a Saturday and it got pretty busy where all the tables got filled up. The music was very loud. I liked the choices but it was so loud that I would have to talk very loudly to be heard in a conversation and it isn't ideal for concentrating. The music got softer by 12/12:30 when it died down. There is no decaf coffee so that's a bummer, only Vietnamese coffee and that's way too strong for me. I did have a very tasty banana matcha with oat milk - it was smooth and had some brown sugar and came with two banana chips! I asked for light ice and indeed had light ice. First visited when they celebrated their 2 year anniversary with Carmen's. Honestly their Green Tea Melon Fresca is spectacular. Service is always good here and the their space is very vibey. I wish it was closer to me because I absolutely fell in love with this place!! There is a private parking lot next to the cafe, so parking isn't an issue. Crete Tea Room is serving up some of the best matcha drinks in the entire AZ area! To get here, there is street parking or a parking lot nearby the shop with a good amount of spots. Inside, they have a nice modern and minimalistic interior with 5-6 tables for seating. For their menu, they have a great selection of different coffee, matcha, and tea drinks. I opted to try the Taro Matcha and it had a great flavor profile without being too sweet. Out of the matchas I have tried in AZ, this one was definitely up there as one of the best! I wanted to love this place so bad. Unfortunately it fell short for myself and rest of my group. From the street it doesn't look like much and in all honesty you'd probably drive right past it without even noticing if you didn't know what you were looking for. However once inside the minimalist vibe is pretty cool. I could say some may think it "cold", but with the long tables great for work space or studying as well the little cozier corner area for a smaller group. While there are a few seats at their bar type area it's not ideal. We ordered the strawberry matcha, taro matcha as well as a ca fae sea salt (Vietnamese coffee). The cashier while knowledgeable wasn't too friendly and a bit short. Not rude by any means, but didn't seem to be enjoying her day. We had our drinks pretty quickly. While the drinks were good they were not great. Our matches had a more milky (think cereal milk) taste and not so matcha. The Vietnamese coffee again was ok but I don't think any of us would order he same thing if we came again. Parking can suck especially during the week as street parking is limited and the lot Nextdoor is for a mechanic shop for the most part.
