We tried the salt and pepper eggplant, but I'm sure the other ones would be good as well (salt and pepper seafood, salt and pepper calamari, salt and pepper wings, etc). Dim sum is only available on weekends. During the week there is a lunch menu. The wonton soup has great taste and not too salty. Inside the wontons are big shrimps. There is also bok choy in the soup. The soup portions are large - enough for 4 people to share. For entree we had (from lunch menu) the yummy house combo and some kind of Lo Mein. Both were good. But should have ordered from regular menu where they were more authentic offerings. Wish there was a bigger dessert menu. All they had were different flavors of ice cream. Went here for lunch yesterday. I have not been to this location before, having always been to the one in Gainesville, even before they moved (I actually miss the old place!) This location is similarly decorated in a modern fashion, but not quite as modern as in Gainesville, which is actually a good thing. The servers were very attentive, and while we were asked if we were ready to order something like half a dozen times by three different wait staff, once we had actually ordered things calmed down and we were able to eat in peace, which was very nice. They obviously want to get the turnovers to happen, even at lunch time. As it was lunch, I decided it was time for something different (I usually get the Salt and Pepper Shrimp as an appetizer in Gainesville). So I had the Singapore Rice Noodles, and I was not disappointed! My mother ordered the hot and spicy soup, and she was also not disappointed, and we both chowed down on both dishes until our tummy's were happy. This was my first visit here. The food and service was excellent!!!! I totally enjoyed the salt and pepper chicken appetizer. It was well seasoned and the temperature was perfectly hot. We absolutely enjoyed the shrimp with broccoli, the sizzlin' beef short ribs and asparagus, the pot stickers, and the XO beef. The portions were all family sized. Yummy is currently suffering the blues which is common place for most new restaurants. Eventually the front of house will coordinate with the back of house and all will be running smoothly. In the interim I experienced service and cook problems and we were left sitting w/inaccurate/cold or no food. The dim sum was well, yummy....as are their other stores. However the Lotus Leaf Sticky Rice suffered from lack of flavor/proteins and was on the small size. I think it's flavor was transported to the Century Egg Congee because it was over loaded with goodness. On the other hand I would of enjoyed it more if it weren't so thin. Carts should be in place on the weekends soon so it will cut down on those individual cooking times. Prices are on point for most of the items but the 2 previous mentioned items were too pricey. Coming back from a little road trip out West, we decided this is a good place for a sit-down meal on a Saturday night before making our way back home to Orlando. Having already visited the Yummy House locations in Tampa (Hillsborough Ave.) and Sarasota, I had somewhat high expectations that this one in Ocala hopefully stacks up to the other ones. I was right and wrong in some areas. Here's the breakdown: * The interior décor is pretty spacious and inviting. I would say this is about the same size as the one in Sarasota but definitely not as big as the one in Tampa. * We ordered 6 dishes to share that night: salt & pepper calamari, Chinese broccoli steamed vegetable, beef chow fun noodle, beef stew clay pot, seafood tofu clay pot and grouper fish tofu clay pot, plus 2 bowls of white rice (the server had already warned us there would be a $1 charge for each white rice which is OK). Within not even 10 minutes, all of the 6 dishes came out to our table as well as the rice. We were highly impressed with the exceptionally quick service especially on a Saturday night. * The beef chow fun noodle dish tasted yummy as always with the right amount of beef and wok-flavor on the noodles. The salt & pepper calamari was OK although I was hoping there would be more cuts of jalapeno added in. However my big issue out of all the meals is the excessive sauce/gravy in the clay pot dishes. For a clay pot dish to be cooked right, there should be a perfect balance of the amount of sauce cooked with the foods, but tonight unfortunately there was too much of it which basically made us feel like we're consuming a highly drenched meal. I took a pic of the finished clay pot dishes with the sauces remaining at half-full :( Despite the results from our clay pot dish experience, the total bill for the 4 of us came out to just a little over $70 which was pretty reasonable for authentic Chinese Cantonese food. Not sure if I plan to come back here again due to the distance, but I think it's nice that Ocala has an option for real Chinese cuisine. There is certainly potential to make their clay pot dishes better tasting so hopefully the management recognizes it and be able to attract more of them to the people in Ocala. read more

This review is mainly for the dim sum. I came here with my family on Christmas day; they were pretty busy, since not a lot of other places were open in Ocala, but we only waited about 15-20 minutes for a table of 5. They only had two carts of dim sum items, but covered most of the staple dim sum dishes. In addition, we ordered a dish of snow pea tips with garlic; it was delicious and had huge chunks of roasted garlic in it! As for the dim sum dishes: - Siu mai: the best thing there, in my opinion - White turnip cake: lackluster - Chive buns: I don't know if it's just my bad luck or what, but I got a mouthful of sandy stuff when I bit into mine - Tofu skins with veggies wrapped inside: tasty - Tsa sao bao (white bun with sweet red meat inside): okay - A couple of other dishes, but I don't really remember them being exceptionally good or bad So I would definitely come back here for the siu mai, but I wish all the other dim sum dishes were as delicious. Having become an ardent fan of the Gainesville Yummy House, I was glad to see they had opened a restaurant also in Ocala. In fact, the Ocala restaurant solved many of the few problems I had with the Gainesville location, mainly that the Gainesville interior is far too small and cramped and the parking lot also is quite small and really is an accident waiting to happen as cars try to move around a full lot looking for non-existent spaces to park. In Ocala, Yummy House has about twice the interior space--maybe even more--and shares a large parking lot with other businesses and thus parking is not an issue. (Seriously, in Gainesville when Yummy House is busy for dim sum some people have to park across Newberry Road at K-mart. It's that bad a situation.) The interior space is painted the happy, welcoming marigold color I'm going to dub "Yummy House Orange" just as in Gainesville and is furnished with smart, asian-themed, decorations and sturdy, attractive, tables. Plus, in the back there is a bar space which is handy for couples or single patrons to sit at instead of waiting for a table. They also have two televisions above this bar and when I was there they had the NBA Timberwolves vs Cavs game on so my friend and I were delighted to have that to watch during dinner. Note they do not have a full bar in terms of liquor but just a bar-like space. I do think they serve a limited selection of wine and beer, however. Regardless, this bar could be a game-changer for Yummy if it allows, especially during dim sum lunch, single patrons a chance to get in and out more quickly without the normal wait for a table. The whole orientation of the restaurant is thus: a lot of space--or at least enough, for ample patrons at once, which is good because Yummy seems to become wildly popular where-ever it puts a restaurant. And if you're as crazy about bball and Chinese food as I am, the chance to have Cantonese cuisine while watching a game is such a welcome if unexpected treat. Regarding the food, it seems to be the very same menu as Gainesville and elsewhere for Yummy; we had two chow fun-style noodle dishes and both were savory, robust, and overall very good. Ample portions, also. Yummy normally has both oolong and green teas on hand, perhaps sometimes some others, and the pots of hot oolong we ordered were flavorful and much enjoyed. The service was considerate and polite, though near the end of the meal a bit of a lull while the waiter disappeared for some time, seemingly into the kitchen. It did seem some other patrons were getting mixed-up orders and some level of confusion was afoot but the restaurant after all has been open only mere weeks, so I expect they will get things operating even more smoothly. My impression overall: as good as the Gainesville location, in fact, even better, considering that the space and parking problems have been solved at the Ocala location. read more

Legit Chinese food! Surprised to find authentic Chinese/Cantonese food in the Florida suburbs. Went right when they opened for dinner at 4.30pm and it was already packed! Service is good, but pretty much first come first serve. The table next to us was just 5 min before us but they ordered right away and got all their food super fast. We probably ordered after a few of the other tables so our food ended up taking much longer to come. The food all came piping hot and fresh! Flavors were pretty on point. My family enjoyed the roast duck very much and raved about the quality. The stir fry dishes were great. I tried 3 of the veggie dishes which were all great! The sauteed snow pea leaves with mushroom was my favorite, followed by braised tofu. The crispy hong kong noodles were also thoroughly enjoyed. I liked that the food was not overly greasy (unlike some other Chinese restaurants). The menu is huge and there is a large selection of dishes-- definitely something for everyone. Large vegetable menu for vegetarians- I told them to hold the oyster sauce and they gladly complied. The restaurant itself was nice and brightly lit with good ambiance/decor. Nothing too gaudy or cheap looking. Prices were reasonable as well. We got 6 entree dishes + 1 soup for ~$100. I think they could have used an extra waiter or so just to have more attentive service, but nothing so bad that I wouldn't return. FYI- my family is Asian and we all agreed this place is one of the better Asian restaurants in Florida. Also I am from NYC and I think the quality of food here can be comparable to some Chinese restaurants in Chinatown here! Doesn't look like much when you walk by, but very nice on the inside. We've only been here for their dim sum on the weekends, so my review is primarily based on that. Food=fantastic! Loved the selection of dim sum and the prices are pretty average for what you're getting. Looking around at others who ordered from the main menu, the food coming to their tables also looked great (though I'm going solely off of looks, not taste). Service= our servers have been pretty good. Sometimes slow and we had to ask for some things more than once, but overall they were friendly and pleasant. However, my one gripe with this place each time (and the reason for docking a star) has been the hosts. Neither of the two hosts I've encountered seem to know anything about service. The young man doesn't speak loud enough. I said thank you 3x before he reluctantly mumbled "you're welcome". We also put our number down once when there was a 25-30 minute wait. We went outside to wait because the lobby was crowded. We had full service and I had my phone in my hand waiting for a call--which never came. After 25 minutes we walked back in and were told they called us several times but I didn't pick up. I had no missed calls and full service right outside. They said it would just be a few more minutes. I figured they would just call us next. Another 30 minutes went by! I realized they put us at the bottom of the list, which I think is ridiculous. My guess is they dialed the wrong number unintentionally. Either way, I don't think having us go to the bottom of the list (especially when we came in at the estimated time) was appropriate. We got take out two times in a week and both times it was just superb. I loved my house special fried rice! I ate until I was so full I could barely move. The portions were just huge. I'll most definitely stop in again when in Ocala and try something else on the menu. It was a huge menu by the way. All wait staff, regardless of which table they were waiting on, if they saw you were low on water they would provide a refill immediately. My favorite Chinese spot in Central Florida is this one in Ocala. Hong Kong style food with generous portions with lots of fats just like in Hong Kong. No the best service or atmosphere but the food is always delicious and tasty. There take out is equally delicious. On the weekend they have dim sum if you can I highly recommend you go then too. Note is more authentic then your local Chinese spots so some friends might not like so leave them. read more

This last time I made the trip in to get the sauce they forgot to send and was informed I had to pay an additional $3.
