I order from Yummy Kabob often and for the most part the food and serving size have been great especially for the price. The folks behind the counter are always personable and I've never had an issue with the service or food. However, this past weekend it was a bad experience overall. We placed an order for a variety of things, mostly kabobs, at 5:30pm and told it'd be ready in 20 minutes--it's about a mile away so we left to pick up the food at 6:00pm, giving approximately a 10 minute buffer. We arrived, paid for our order, and were told the food would be out shortly--we didn't think much of the number of people also waiting but realize quickly that everyone is waiting for their orders. Ultimately we didn't get home with our meal until 6:55pm, almost 90 minutes from when we placed our order. I can understand a restaurant being busy but not communicating ahead of time or having a realistic timeframe for when the food will be ready was not acceptable. If they had called us and updated us before we left the house or let us know upon arrival we could've left and gone back instead of sitting there for nearly an hour. All that's forgivable but as a result the quality of the food greatly suffered and was inconsistent. My beef kabob was undercooked but salvageable; the chicken kabob was burnt, not just crispy with some black edges, but charred to the point where the inside was dry and the exterior predictably bitter. Not every chicken piece was burned but most of them were. Even the sauces were inconsistent--one person's green sauce was way spicier than normal whereas the rest were mild. The salads weren't seasoned or dressed at all either. The saving graces were the cheese pies--tasty, savory, cheesy bites. The falafel with hummus and baba ganoush were great but the rest of the meal was a letdown. A bit of communication would've gone a long way. I'll plan on giving them another shot and hope for the quality of grown accustomed to. read more

Where do I begin? The falafel sandwich came in old pita bread. The sandwich did not have any sauce resulting in very dry bites. With the bread being so old and dry, the sandwich would not even hold together. Fries were not fried properly and did not have any salt. This place is it. The butter chicken is outrageously delicious, The Shawarma is insanely delicious and easily enough for two people to share. And my wife absolutely loves the Vegetarian samosas. Well, let's just say they definitely live up to their name. We ordered for delivery through an app and the food was piping hot upon arrival. I got the chicken shawarma and it was perfect. The chicken was tender and juicy, perfectly paired with that huge, fluffy pile of not one....but two types of basmati rice. There was a side salad and a delicious side of chickpeas. On top of all of that, we also had 3 huge pieces of naan bread between our two meals. We also got a side of hummus and veggie somosas. Ordered carryout through DoorDash. Order was ready when we arrived and wrapped well. The kabob and falafel were really good, but the eggplant wrap tasted like a tortilla wrapped in mush. Location: This is literally smack near Mosaic District/INOVA Hospital! It's hard to miss unless you have google maps or apple maps on. The noise level was pretty minimum with the exception of hearing the soccer match roaring from the TV. You can have a quiet conversation here with friends or family! This gem seems to be one of the hole in the wall looking places that you always drive by and never pay attention to. I ordered some delicious deep fried pastry stuffed with peas, ground beef and onions which was great with the green sauce. Would definitely order again. I also got the chicken shawarma sandwich which was big! They were generous with the chicken and other fillings and the sandwich was tight which I enjoyed - I hate when eating burritos and everything falls out the bottom... which was not the case here. The first bite lit my tastebuds up with flavor! After eating half I realized that though the sandwich was good, I wasn't a big fan of the flavors of the chicken. Just not for me. Food quality has severely gone downhill. My veggie kabob was completely burnt, my salad soggy, and this is no joke but this small order of previously frozen garlic fries cost $5. It was very good!! I would have doused it with tahini sauce or garlic sauce if I had any. Lots of chicken and stuffed with all the fixings. I love the pickles, would have ordered a few extra pickles had I known how delicious they were. The hummus is good too. I didn't care for the Naan bread that was served with the hummus. It was kind of thick and by the time I ate it, it was dried out and hard. I used pita from home and scooped the bowl of hummus. It was fresh. The butter chicken was not at all like I expected it to taste. Very disappointed. I'm from the Midwest and it smelled like chicken and dumplings. I didn't taste any spice. I ate some of the rice and all of the side salad. Tossed the butter chicken in the trash. I've made butter chicken from packets at the Indian grocery better than what I got here. Visited on a Tuesday night around 6pm. The female order taker who had a hard time understanding English was rude and seemed like she was preoccupied. Midway through my order she takes a phone call and has me wait for 5 minutes before finishing my order. In addition I asked if I could get shrimp with my chicken kabob dinner and said no when the menu clearly stated that I could order it as an add-on. Even though I was the only person eating in, my order took approximately 20 minutes to prepare and the restaurant was cold( they had two space heaters running).
