I flew in for the Omakase experience and it did not disappoint. The fish was so fresh to the point I had to ask the chef where is he getting it in the dessert. Every bite was amazing and worth the 95.00. I even ordered hot sake which was only 12.00 dollars. My only wish was that they wrapped the sake bottle in a warm towel as the sake cooled off towards the end. Total combined for both chefs, they have 24yrs of experience which speaks volumes for the taste, how they used seasonal ingredients and how they were in sink during the prep for each course.

Two Seattle foodies, came to Yuzu for Omakase. Hands down, BEST experience in Arizona. We were seated next to a very pleasant couple who were celebrating a birthday. The courses were well designed. We started with two perfectly fried wontons accompanied by a delicious tuna tartare, followed by cherry blossom soba noodles. The rest of the courses were a mix of excellent fish (Trout, Amberjack, mackerel, blue fin tuna and sweet shrimp) as well as yummy blue crab handroll, salmon potato fritter, krispy rice with scallop tartare with garlic aioli. Chef topped the experience with a gorgeous dessert presentation of a matcha-ube cookie and strawberry tart with peach creme topped with a blackberry. Want an amazing Omakase experience in Phoenix? Came in on a weekend night and didn't need a reservation. We were in the area after looking at some Christmas lights and found this place on Yelp. It is a smaller sushi restaurant but sitting at the bar felt super authentic, also since the owner/chef is Japanese. Sushi was prepped right in front of you at the bar which was fun to watch. Also they use an iPad type ordering system for food and drinks which is very cool too. Price was a little high, but have definitely have eaten at more expensive Asian restaurants. Worth a try and would absolutely come back!

Ventured here on a weeknight after going out to see lights. You get to order through a tablet. Soju and sake selection were varied. The sushi selection was overall was a great mixture of commonly seen sushi and unique rolls including waygu caviar. High quality food. Would return to try more!

First time at this 9months old omakase style restaurant. Overall excellent food variety and great taste. This restaurant ONLY SERVES omakase and some Take outs. Limited seating, so better make reservations before coming. Service is pretty decent for this type of dining experience. Chef speaks good English, so communication was very easy and effective.

Made a reservation for omakase after hearing great things about this from a friend and then reading Chef Yusuke's biography. Hailing from Osaka Japan and putting in work at Tsuji culinary academy and then working at Nobu in Beverly Hills, I had very high expectations. It's very easy to find and plenty of parking in the little strip mall. Upon entering Chef Yosuke and team greeted us warmly and got us prepped for the experience. I've only had omakase one other time in New York and there's a casualness that can throw you off at Yuzu Omakase due to the decor and location but don't let that fool you. This sushi was great and Chef Yusuke sources his fish from all over many of the pieces coming from Japan directly. But the way he's mixing those flavors were insane and for the price of $85 I feel like it's an amazing value for 13 pieces. Big pieces of fish on the rice too not skimpy. There was only 1 piece that I felt was not as good as the others and that was the Steak Tenderloin, but that's my opinion. There were also some flavors like the Yuzu Aguacate that is drizzled on the fish that is very unique, and depending on how you feel about that flavor profile can push you off. However, the flavors were very well done and Chef likes to integrate different textures in. Ingredients were super fresh as you can see them as he's working with them. Loved seeing the details he puts on the fish in front of you, and it was great to watch a master work. I do want to highlight the last thing served to us which was the Japanese Mountain Peach. I've never heard of that in my life, and this was such a fun treat at the end. Legit blew my mind because it just was such a great way to cap off the experience. Really enjoyed the omakase experience - highly recommend you stop by and see for yourself!

Didn't have a great experience here, although from the sounds of the reviews the Omakase experience is the right way to eat here. My wife and I were just looking to try out regular roll's and some Sashimi. The special rolls were just not great from an appearance or taste standpoint. (See picture). The pickled peppers, load of imitation crab, and mediocre fish I'd give a 3/10. They offer bluefin tuna rolls but either they are sourcing very low quality bluefin or it's not bluefin and being marketed as such. The price point for them was low but I thought maybe they are subsidizing trying to grow. Nope, just lower quality tuna. The service was what I'd expect from a higher end sushi spot where they don't often dote on you like typical US restaurants which was perfectly fine. The food was just very meh and our experience was the opposite of what we saw in many other yelp reviews. I think I'd only do the Omakase if I were to go there.

A new(er) omakase service in Phoenix. Great pictures but somehow offering omakase for $85 made Yuzu quite intriguing on how the quality for price would play out. Short answer: totally worth it! It is a small, but very pretty space and the omakase is by reservation only. The iPads for ordering drinks and a la carte is a nice touch and allowed Chef Yu to work his magic. The quality was great, either pretty classic nigiris either the occasional modern dressing. With so many great sushi places popping up, it's hard to rank Yuzu as the best. However, the value absolutely sets it apart. We got 14 pieces for $85 which is amazing. The quality is not to be understated either. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and Yuzu may have just made it possible for me to enjoy omakase more frequently!

I didn't make this reservation lightly--I was celebrating something special. I booked the reservation through the Yelp app, which clearly states "Make a reservation -- Table for 2," as shown in the image I've uploaded. I also uploaded an example from a different restaurant showing the proper way to offer different dining options when taking reservations. I was so excited about this visit that I arrived early and walked around the plaza, eagerly waiting for them to open. Once the restaurant opened, we walked in to find only one waitress and the owner working. The owner insisted on charging the two of us for Omakase. I explained that I had booked a table, not Omakase, and that my wife doesn't eat sushi. This led to a confrontation that lasted what felt like far too long, completely spoiling what could have been a perfect day. Despite the rocky start, we still ordered quite a bit, hoping to make the best of the experience. Unfortunately, the sushi was average at best, and the up-charges for searing were absolutely ridiculous. In hindsight, we shouldn't have bothered--it wasn't worth it. Coming from the restaurant world, I can confidently say that being a great chef doesn't necessarily mean you can also be the face of the restaurant or handle the business side effectively, even if it's your own establishment.

This new neighborhood gem is so cute! I happened across it by accident. They have several seatings a day for preplanned omakase so check in advance. The server seemed a bit confused when I showed up as a walk in, but we got it figured out . Love the $85 price point since most places charge over $100. I wandered in on a Thursday night and put my hand in for a 6pm seating. The chef provided 13 sushi tastings and a handroll. Everything was fabulous. The walk into the establishment toward the bar is lovely and intimate. This is a true omakase experience with a mini presentation per bite by Chef Yusu himself. You eat with your fingers and enjoy one bite at a time. My favorites were the sea bass with plum sauce, sweet shrimp, and the sea urchin over caviar with lemon zest. Yes! I'd skip the rice on that one next time so nothing competes with the sea urchin. The tenderloin with truffle sauce was decadent and the giant clam my incredible! Melted in my mouth! Lovely ending with blue crab handful. The chef is such a sweetheart and so well-mannered. My only suggestion for atmosphere would be to turn the music up a tad for energy and to engage guests a bit more or get customers chatting with one another so a more lively, fun vibe for all guests!

We did takeout for our first time. I recognize I didn't get the full effect of the experience by not dining in buy I love the location as we need more good places to eat in the area. Got 2 omakase and one rainbow roll. The rainbow roll was good. The fish is a good quality for being in Arizona. The omakase was good but wished there was a bit more variety to match the price. Other than that, we enjoyed our meals and look forward to the next visit!

Each nigiri had a distinct, delicious flavor. I loved the back and forth between more fresh nigiri and seared nigiri. The atmosphere was very comfortable, and it was enjoyable chatting with the sushi chef as we ate. The price is incredibly reasonable for such a quality omakase experience. Fantastic value, very fresh! Booked dinner omakase for 4 @ 7:30pm. Yuzu is located in a nondescript strip mall. What a treat. Seated at the chefs counter and served 13 exquisitely prepared nigiri and finished with a crab hand roll and miso soup. Nigiri included: O-toro, wagyu beef, yellowtail, charred black cod, and bluefin tuna. Super fresh and delicious-super value at $85/person + tax and gratuities. I've been to other places with comparable quality charging at least twice as much. The restaurant is new; they have only been in the space for 2 months, which explains the decor. But the quality of the seafood, and the friendly, efficient service, more than makes up for it. We will absolutely come again! read more

What an experience! Yuzu is an up and coming sushi hotspot in the Phoenix area that I was able to go to for Omakase. This was my first time doing Omakase, but fortunately, it wasn't too difficult. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy watching the sushi chef masterfully craft each element of your meal with the freshest seasonal ingredients he can gather that day. A rotating selection offers fun surprises in each bite. I always have lots of questions when it comes to something like this, but the staff were so welcoming and eager to answer. They matched our excitement which helped contribute to a fun and special dinner. The restaurant itself is pretty small so look into a reservation, but it is clean and cozy and couldn't have asked for anything more in terms of the atmosphere. Personally, I didn't love every single bite of sushi, but they sure were inventive. Even the offerings that ranked lower on my list at the end of the night were still joyful to eat and I could appreciate the creative juxtapositions of flavors, temperatures, and textures. That being said, there was no short supply of incredible mouthfuls and all four of us loved our time at Yuzu! read more

My Valentine's Day Omakase experience was good, but just that. Although we were the first couple to arrive for the 6:30 reservation, we were seated at the end which meant... listening to Gordon Ramsey on the TV while watching in the distance the nigiri being made with a side of watching the take out orders. The experience should really cap at 6 people. I was served last and always around the corner because of the set up of the experience. The previous reservation was still going when we got there and I was seated with a previous customers water. That being said, I give the chef and the food the recognition they deserve. Food was excellent itself. Each nigiri comes with a piece of wasabi and the chef is pleasant. This would be worth it and I would 100% try this again, but in a different view. Overall great, but just don't be the couple to sit at the end I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ read more

The atmosphere is incredibly intimate, making it feel like you're dining at a friend's house. The chef is not only skilled but also incredibly friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. The rice-to-fish ratio is perfect, and the fish is also fresh - I was told it's flown in daily and the menu is curated to cater to the season. Sushi was good but the iPad ordering with no real waiter was a bummer. When spending $300-$400 on a quality dinner, the wait staff plays a huge roll in the experience. We came in, was told to have a seat, water and share plates were brought to us and that was about it. No "have you guys dined with us before" no "do you have any questions", felt very impersonal and that is unfortunate. Being from San Diego where great sushi is somewhat easy to find, we have done plenty of omakase over the years. This style would not fly in many major cities so for that reason, I have to give it a 3 star review read more

I've eaten sushi throughout most of Japan and the United States. This is as good as can be found anywhere. Part 2 review because this turns out to be a great place for date night omakase and a casual family dinner. I came back with my 2 little kids. We felt very welcome which is not always the case walking in as one adult and 2 small kids. The food was excellent again. This place is the top of my sushi spots in AZ. One of the best omakases I've had in a long time. We ordered the $85 Omakase menu and it was worth every penny. The fish was great quality and the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned to perfection. It was a pleasure chatting with the chef/owner as well. You can tell he is very passionate about what he does. Ridiculously good. Meticulous presentation. We haven't had omekase like this since LA and it's so exciting that it's in north Phoenix! The sushi chef came from Nobu in LA. Omekase menu changes based on fish in season - which is good because I intend to go back and it would be nice to try different things. Make a reservation at the bar and enjoy! The fish was excellent and he described the preparation and condiments he was adding- all extremely flavorful. Chef Yusuke explained each "dish" and seemed super happy to be preparing the meal. So fun and so good! What a treat! Incredible experience from start to finish. We ended up being the only reservation at our time slot so we basically got a private omakase experience. We absolutely loved every course that the chef prepared. He was very knowledgeable and super fun to watch/get to know. It's definitely a more intimate setting since there is very limited seating. My old go-to sushi restaurant closed before Covid because the sushi chef was burnt out. I've been looking for another sushi place. Yuzu Omakase has only been open for a month as of September 2024, and I think this is going to be my new go -to sushi place. The current Omakase has two seatings and each seating only accommodates 6 patrons. There are table seating available, but the Omakase is the draw. The chef serves single nigiri per course which has been pre-seasoned. You eat with your hands and no small dishes of dipping soy sauce. I'm definitely going back. read more

Unreal price for this quality and variety omakase. I'd suggest going now before more people find this and the restaurant raises its prices. Smaller place with omakase seating limited to 6 people keeps the feel intimate and connected with the chef. Reservations required for omakase seating. Chef trained at Nobu and is from Osaka. Used the torch quite a bit so be aware if you don't like seared sushi he sears quite a few pieces. read more

This place is amazing! Best sushi in the area, especially if you like nigiri. The cuts of fish are unlike anything I've had in this neighborhood. I've done the Omakase and the normal menu, you can go super fancy or super casual with their standard rolls, all of which are amazing. The chef is also so friendly and sweet. We were going downtown for a concert, craving some sushi and found this place on Yelp. We arrived a little after 5pm and the restaurant was mostly empty. But in the next 20 minutes it filled up and there was open sitting at the bar only. The mood was initially quiet but quickly turned more up beat as the restaurant filled and pop rock music was playing. We asked our waiter a few questions about a few of their rolls and he was very helpful with guidance and recommendations. We ordered Salmon Lemon, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado Maki and California rolls to share for two. This restaurant uses purple rice rather than traditional white rice. This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. Our favorite was the Salmon Lemon roll. We loved the pop the lemon added. Honorable mentions to the Spicy Tuna roll, very well done, excellent balance of heat and flavors. You could tell just how short staffed they were and you could hear that there's only 1 sushi chef 1 regular chef and that's it for the kitchen. I don't know who is managing the shift schedule, maybe it's because we came on Memorial Day, but this type of service is not acceptable. I don't take this on the employees at all. They were so incredibly nice and apologetic and doing the best they can and even the front of house was now bussing tables to help out!!! We didn't need a reservation when we went, but I'd probably recommend one if you're coming with a party of four or more. We were seated at the bar and ordered a four dishes from different categories, which was a great way to sample the menu - though I think we probabaly could have gotten away with just 3 dishes for a party of 2. We tried Yam Mamuang Boran (old-style green mango salad), Boo Pad Pong Garee (crab curry with ginger), Tom Yum Haeng Sen Yai (dry tom yum with wide noodles), and Naem Khao Tot (crispy rice salad with fermented pork sausage). Interior is absolutely beautiful and has such a nice classy and cozy feel, with a good artistic touch to it. Drinks were amazing and flavorful with each having a nice combination of ingredients. I absolutely enjoyed the pasta I got as the noodles were the perfect texture, sauce was flavorful, and the blend of it all was amazing. The portions were filling as well which I appreciated! We also came back during their lunch service to try their viral sandwich with the shredded Parmesan cheese and it was amazing! Bread had the perfect crisp, the inside was packed with flavor and the ingredients all were fresh and crisp! I can see why it was viral and everyone had spot on opinions! Can't wait to come back and try more!

The inside is small but welcoming. We had a great time!

WOW! I've been searching high and low for great sushi in Arizona, and this place absolutely takes the crown. I've had the pleasure of both getting takeout and dining in for their Omakase experience, and let me tell you--both were phenomenal! The takeout was fresh, beautifully packaged, and just as satisfying as eating at the restaurant. When I dined in for Omakase, it was a whole other level. The chef is truly artists, crafting each piece with precision and care while explaining the story behind the dishes. The flavors were out of this world, and every bite felt like an adventure. It's important to note that you do need a reservation for Omakase, which I highly recommend if you want to experience sushi on a whole new level. However, if you're stopping by for the regular menu, walk-ins are welcome, and you'll still be treated to top-notch service and incredible sushi. The food, service, and atmosphere all get a perfect 5/5 from me. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what they do, which only adds to the overall experience. I can confidently say this is the best sushi I've had in AZ. We came to Yuzu Omakase to celebrate my husband's birthday, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Never did we expect to find such high-quality Japanese sushi in the middle of the Arizona desert. Every single bite was exquisite--so delicious that all we could do was nod and say, "Oishii!" The omakase menu featured 13 courses of seasonal nigiri, each one crafted with care and precision. Since we love uni, we couldn't resist adding three extra orders of uni nigiri to complete our incredible meal. The flavors were unmatched and left us speechless. The restaurant itself is small but beautifully decorated, creating an intimate and cozy atmosphere. For the omakase experience, there are only six seats available, so making a reservation is essential. We booked our spot through Yelp, and the process was quick and hassle-free.
