I really wanted to like this place, it's so close to home and the service was great (I called and picked up). I'm from the Bay Area where there are a ton of great sushi places...but have yet to find one that is as good up here in the Rocklin/Roseville/Lincoln area. I got a few rolls, edamame, miso soup, and tamago. One, the tamago was not homemade. Few places make it themselves which I don't understand. It's not hard to make and can be so delicious. The miso soup was good, it didn't taste like the standard soup most places make. What really killed me was that the rice was mushy on everything I ordered...so I don't know if it was just old or they don't know how to make sushi rice. This is the one thing that makes me not want to go back. If you can't make sushi rice, how can you have a sushi restaurant. There are a few more places in the area I want to try, but I will definitely not be going back here. read more

The service was horrible. Went in and waited to be seated. When we did they cleaned off a 2 top even though there were other open tables. We asked to seat at a booth and another server rudely said "there reserved" yet the whole time we were there no one sat in the booth. Out server was not the friendliest snd the other rude server who told me the booth was reserved mean mugged us the whole time. I've found my newest favorite sushi place. This joint is such a gem. The service is friendly and quick. The food is top notch. I get the bumble bee roll every time. It's always delicious. My husband loves the Oceans 12 roll. The bbq albacore is also excellent. read more

They took my order, checked with the kitchen to make sure the items are available, was told that the order will be ready in 25-30 minutes, and will text when the order is ready. 30 minutes went by and no text. Went to the restaurant to pick up the order and nothing! They did not make the food! What the heck?! Food's great, but only expect to dine in. Restaurant has no online platform (no website ordering, and no mobile food apps). Calling in for an order is cumbersome as their phone line appears to only accept one phone call at a time. Most of the time, I get a busy tone. I would do business with them more often if they had an online platform (many of my neighbors say the same thing). Many of us result to just ordering from a different Japanese restaurant. When it comes to sushi I am usually very picky! Zakuro never fails to provide excellent service and quality food! If you are not sure what to order the wait staff is very knowledgeable about their menu and will recommend something delicious! I recommend getting the Zakuro roll, lion king, and highway 65! Used to come here all the time but came for lunch with my niece twice now and have been disappointed both times. The restaurant music is almost too loud to talk, and dining area is kept very cold, so ambience is not so great. the second time we came we sat outside to avoid the dining room. The miso soup was great, the sushi has mushy rice that wasn't quite right and a strong mayonnaise taste from the sauces - those seem a bit differen from how they used to be too. Fish seemed fresh. The ginger was old, sour, and had begun browning in a ring on the edges. The takeout roll we ordered came with fresh ginger, so I'm not sure why they served the old stuff to us. I had a few minutes wait to be greeted and seated even though they saw us and there was no one in the dining room. Service was overall apathetic which I don't get too excited about but great service can make up for so-so food. This is hands down one of the best sushi restaurants in the entire Sacramento area. I'm a huge fan of classic sashimi and can certainly tell when fish is fresh and of high quality. I'm happy to share that the fish at Zakuro is incredibly fresh and of top notch quality! I really enjoyed my entree of red tuna and albacore tuna. I hate to sound basic but the fish was so fresh that it truly does melt in your mouth. Couple the amazing sashimi with fantastic service and you have an exemplary restaurant, which is very hard to come across these days. I also ordered a miso soup and cucumber salad, both were fantastic. My boyfriend ordered the Pepperfin which he described as one of the best he's ever had and the Kamikaze roll which looked delicious as well. I should also add that the interior of the restaurant was very clean and that our food arrived very shortly after ordering. All in all, I'm very picky when it comes to sushi and have only positive things to say about Zakuro. Great food, quick service, friendly ownership, and clean interior. Long wait time, but I feel this is probably due to short staffing after covid closures. Once finally seated 45 min later, never told how long the wait would be. Our drinks came in lovely plastic party cups and ginger and wasabi on a paper plate. Food was just okay. I ordered teriyaki salmon plate with tempura, and a lion king roll. Roll was gross, cold (not fresh made california roll) salmon on top wasn't hot like a baked roll should be, Just odd. The teriyaki salmon was the best part of my dinner. The tempura was an odd mix normal things like sweet potatoes, shrimp, but 2 huge hunks of deep fried green bell pepper? Ew why? Overall I think they could be way better with proper staffing. Also It was so odd seeing them stage to go orders at the bar in the open without covering for long period of time. In boxes with frozen sushi on the side. We were excited to check out Zakuro as we have heard many good things about the place. We stopped in for lunch and the place was pretty empty. The spot is medium sized with a sushi bar and table seating. Service was rather abrupt, like our waitress was in a rush or something. She didn't seem interested in waiting on us and almost walked away while I was trying to ask her a menu question. I would imagine this was a fluke but it certainly didn't have a positive effect on my experience. We ordered two of the ramen noodle specials and one roll. The food was average my wife didn't care for her ramen but I thought it was fine. Our sushi was better with good crunch in the tempura shrimp inside the roll. Prices ranged from $9.95 to $17 or so for sushi rolls. On the positive side Zakuro lists snow crab instead of fake krab like many other sushi spots. Our service was sub par and the food was okay. I think there could be some really good rolls here, but they are pricey and with the sub par service it is not likely we would return. read more

Throw in a hamachi kama (think of a tbone steak but with tender fish that comes with ponzu dipping sauce) as an appetizer or the Sydney Special (raw fish in some sweet sauce with daikon toppings)! Probably the best sushi joint in Lincoln and Roseville! Zakuro has a great selection of fresh sushi, bento boxes, and ramen! Our favorite roll is the King Kong 2... Huge roll full of spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, white tuna, and tempura flakes!!! The Ramen is great too... Selection of a soy base with pork, or a miso base ramen. Tempura is delicious... Nice sized shrimp and veggies.... Sukiyaki is pretty good but ramen is better! The building itself is very modern and has plenty of seating as well as a nice outdoor patio area with heaters! They have plenty of flat screen tv's but they have 2 gigantic tv's to watch the big games!!! The sushi chefs are cool!!! Mike the owner is the man!!! Brent, Adam, tony are all cool dudes who kill it in the bar! The parking is huge and is never a problem! Since I live further out in sacramento, I usually don't get many chances to go to Zakuro! New to area and this is our sushi restaurant. Been here several times. Food is DELICIOUS and excellent service. First experience we went for my birthday dinner. Great assortment of rolls. I can't say enough about the service! When our server found out it was my birthday, she walked down to the Boba place and bought me a piece of cake. We have been coming here for takeout about every other week the past 3 months. We are finally done tho. They always give us an estimate for pick up, we show up at the allotted time, and then end up waiting another 20-30 minutes for our order. Every single time. They never have enough staff. This last time, I had paid and left my tip. My check sat there for 20 minutes and so I picked it up and scratched off my tip. I am tired of leaving a tip on to go food that is never ready when they tell me it will be. Last time they told me 35 minutes, I purposely arrived 5 minutes after that and still waited another 25 minutes. I've noticed while waiting each time, they aren't managing reservations. Service was good, lots of parking in the area. But the food was just so-so. We came because my husband was craving sushi and we had a coupon in the mailer for this place. We made the drive out to Lincoln and were quickly seated. Lots of tables but a good steady stream of customers while we were there. We ordered a bento box with chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu, along with some rolls---super Californian, super rainbow and some kind of lobster roll. My husband was super hungry and thought the food was decent. I, on the other hand, thought the quality and presentation was not impressive. Maybe I'm too used to Japanese-owned restaurants where the sushi is more authentic and well-presented like Mikuni (this restaurant is Korean owned). The miso soup and salad were ok, pretty normal. The chicken katsu, teriyaki and rice just tasted off. The rice isn't the normal Japanese rice that I'm used to having at an authentic restaurant. Maybe cheaper quality? Biting into the chicken katsu felt awkward also. Not sure if it's the quality of the meat or how it's prepared. The rolls were a mess. They pretty much took the rice that they serve with bento boxes and stuff it with some crab and cucumbers. Isn't sushi rice supposed to have some rice vinegar to make it taste different? Like a previous reviewer said, it's very Americanized sushi (as evidenced by the sushi chefs who were Caucasian or really young guys). The sushi is roughly put together and falls apart when you try to pick it up. The coupon definitely brings in customers but it's not a place I would come back to in the future. Our meal was over $50 with the coupon (with just water!). We'd rather go to Raku or Mikuni in the future, where they know how to make the sushi with more expertise. read more

My wife had craving for ramen so we went to this highly rated Lincoln restaurant on a Labor Day Monday. We had the Miso Ramen combo with the Tempura, the Karage for our kid then the Zakuro roll. All were 4 out of 5 on our scale. The 50% off Sake Monday was also easy on the pocket. What makes this rating jump to a 5 is when our server "Tye" had this special on the house item made for us. He said it was the Tony no. 5. What was requested was a dragon themed food art for the Zakuro roll that we ordered since I told him that I saw it on Yelp. We already paid for the bill so we were pleasantly surprised that we got these plus the ice creams free. Definitely coming back. read more

I don't usually write reviews but this time I feel like I need to. I've tried many sushi places, but zakuro is by far one of my top places for sure. I'm not quite sure why some reviews say that they don't accommodate to their allergies or preference. They always do a really great job with their accommodations. Every time I come here, I would sometimes ask for rolls without rice or other certain ingredients because of being on a diet and gluten-free. They would always respond politely and do their best to get my orders correct. If and when they do mess up by accident, they are always willing to make me another roll by prioritizing my order and get it done as quick as possible. I would also like to add that if you want to have a great conversation, you should sit by the sushi bar because all the chef are super friendly. If you are lucky enough to stop by when the owner Mike and Sydney are there, they will always greet you and treat you with the utmost respect. I would definitely highly recommend this sushi restaurant to others because I've been eating at this restaurant for over 5 years now, so I think that speaks volume. Some rolls I would recommend are King Kong 1 or 2, bumble bee, oceans 12, oceans 13, and mike special. All the rolls are great as well, but these are just some of my top.
