Zankou chicken is a big part of my childhood. Their chicken is one of the best rotisserie chicken EVER. The meat literally falls off the bone, the crispy perfectly seasoned skin, famous garlic spread, and pita to complete the ensemble of a great meal. I don't like eating chicken breast but theirs is so juicy that you will feel like your eating thigh meat. Wondering why only 4 stars? I deducted a point because for as long as I can remember, the packaging togo for the whole chicken used to be in a paper box. Now it's in a plastic rotisserie container all covered building up moist. I ordered a family style chicken with a combo plate during lunch time and when I picked it up I noticed that it was in that container. It took literally ten minutes for me to order and pick it up and it's ready. I was surprised because at 12:30pm on a Saturday, you would think they'd be packed but nope, you can count with your fingers the people inside the restaurant. Back to the chicken, when I got home, all the crispiness of the skin that I was excited about was gone. It's like getting your dream car but just not the color you want. Was I disappointed, a little bit. Did I enjoy it? Yes I did. But it wasn't the same experience as before. It almost felt like eating Costco chicken. Please look into a better way of packaging. Great location to pop in and grab a bite. I love the chicken here but the parking is a little constricted. They do have a lower level but never been down there. I usually scoot out if there isn't enough parking. The wraps here are great compared to other locations. They have ample employees here so you won't have to wait long. When my friend tells me that this is the best chicken, I'm thinking "It's chicken". Now I'm a believer. Only reason that they don't get a 5 star is because it was about $10 for the plate. OMG their chicken with garlic sauce!!! This sauce is what really makes the meal as it's perfectly tart and ADDICTING. The chicken is absolutely succulent and tender. The skin is perfectly crispy. Also a nice thing to note is this place was mentioned on the show "Best Thing I Ever Ate - Garlic" from Food Network--means this place is legit!! I used to LOVE Zankou. Would legit have it every week. Their chicken was really good. In the past few years, I've noticed a significant drop in quality however. I ordered the chicken kabob plate, and was shocked at the amount of GREASE on the chicken kabobs. From my experience, chicken kabobs are grilled over an open fire and the grease usually runs down into the open flame. This didn't seem like the case for my order, it tasted and looked like it was deep fried in old chicken grease. I'm so extremely sad and disappointed that this will be my last time ever visiting Zankou until I see their quality return. I would ask management to double check their standards. I really hope I don't get sick from the food as I just had it an hour ago. read more

This place is an institution. Its chicken and garlic sauce are the stuff of legend in socal. And for the most part, deservedly so. The restaurant itself is pretty bare bones with respect to décor, but you're probably not eating in most of the time anyway. Zankou's chicken has super crispy skin along with its tasty meat. Buying a whole chicken along with a bunch of sides is a great easy standby pickup dinner for a few people (which I've taken advantage of on several occasions). That being said, the shawerma plates are actually really good too. Chicken and beef shawerma, along with all the various side dishes, including pickled turnip (looks strange, but tastes really good), onions, tomatoes, salads, pita bread, hummus, mutabal, and even hot pepperocini-type peppers makes for a really filing, satisfying dish with lots of variety. I'm not the biggest fan of their luleh kabob, as I think it's a bit dry, and there are better options elsewhere (especially in Glendale) but that's like complaining that McDonalds doesn't have the best salads. There are plenty of other options, and you are at a chicken/shawerma joint anyway. The garlic sauce is usually the first thing that people mention when you ask them about Zankou. It's absolutely the most delicious garlic spread I've had. It's worth saving any extra to put on leftovers, or to improve boring sandwiches on the next day. A little goes a long way, and it really adds flavor to the chicken and pita. It's still worth going there to get it, despite the fact that at this point some people have essentially figured out the recipe (as it is a well-known recipe in Lebanon), and it can be readily found online. Most people won't want to spend the time to make it from scratch though, and their version is particularly good anyway. This place definitely earns 5 stars overall, but with the understanding that décor is not its strong suit, and some of the items could be improved. Sometimes I do admit the chicken may seem a bit too salty. This has been happening more recently than in the past, and it is probably the single biggest point on which they could improve, and should keep aware of in their production. I called here once when I lost time sheets and the worker who picked up the phone hung up on me. I guess I should buy kabobs if I feel like beef. The tri tip wrap is creamy but they need to trim the fat bits off. It also tasted a little sour. There weren't any tough parts but the meat is drier than I like. I love the chicken tarna, garlic sauce, and hummus. I used to work a block away and bring home a half or whole chicken for my mother-in-law after eating a quarter white chicken plate. I shared the half chicken dinner, which included the half chicken, 2 pita breads, garlic sauce, hummus, and cabbage salad. The chicken and pita bread goes great together, along with a bit of garlic sauce and hummus, but I withheld on the cabbage since it didn't look too inviting. I got the tarna wrap that has globs of the garlic paste which tasted pretty basted in addicts dosage. I haven't actually had the pleasure of dining at a Zankou restaurant but my uncle always brought chicken, pita and the garlic spread to family parties. It was the reason I would anxiously await his arrival haha crap, his kids/my cousins are probably going to read this when it hits facebook. LOL. The chicken here is so amazing, very easily in top 10! ANDD it's NOT even fried! It's always super tender, flavorful and juicy. The pita bread + garlic spread compliment the chicken so well, you'd almost think they spent hours in the kitchen piecing that combination together. Oh and one advantage of having your zankou chicken to go, is that you can pop the pita bread in the toaster for a few minutes to give it a nice little crisp, and then my friends, you lather on that garlic spread and watch it melt ... yumm! I haven't had anything else that they serve so I'm sure I'll be updating this once I try the rest of their menu. Very filling and the meat is just amazing. I usually take a sriracha bottle whenever I come here, only makes things better. I used to live in Glendale for a bit and I LOVED this place. I'd take friends and family visiting me to this spot and everyone loves it just as much as me. Hands down, best kabobs and roasted chicken! Recently went back this past weekend to rekindle with the juicy tenderness of their kabobs before going to the Laker game. There is somewhat of a wait (usually 10-15 minutes) if you order one of their kabobs. But it's 100% worth the wait. Let your mouth salivate for a little bit while you think about it before you set eyes on those chunks of meat oozing with juices. I've tried just about everything off their menu except the falafel and the lule (only because I'm not a fan of either of those and I know I wouldn't enjoy them). Generally, white meat chicken is dry. It's just their nature...but at Zankou, no chicken comes dry. Their roasted chicken is really, really good. As for the garlic sauce that everyone seems to be raving about...both my husband I actually never noticed their garlic sauce before until this past time. Garlic sauce really isn't for me, I prefer to eat the meat with loads of hummus. But I'll be honest, it's pretty good for garlic sauce. It's a good starter for those not familiar with Armenian fare. The chicken Tarna is Zankou's trademark marinated chicken that sits on a spit and turns (same for their steak shawerma). Zankou, you complete me! For the love of God, please come to Vegas! I'll be honest, this place isn't much to look at but don't let appearances fool you. It's amazing food and affordable too. It's a fam favorite so I always order the exact same thing every time. The whole rotisserie chicken (enough to feed 4-5 ppl) with all the fixings. Truth be told, the pita isn't always as fresh as I'd like but a few seconds in the microwave will help. What I like to do is, spread a thick layer of garlic on the pita with a nice slice of chicken and top it with pickled beets and yellow chilies, it's like a little Mediterranean burrito.
