Omg. I have been coming to this place since I was a little kid. I have had everything on the menu but I always get the chicken tarna. The skin to that whole chicken though is so good. That garlic sauce will leave your breath tasting so bad but it's worth it. I get some of that pita and dip big healthy scoops of hummus and that garlic sauce. I started with Zankou in Hollywood years ago. And Every once in a while while visiting from Northern Calif I will stop in the Glendale location. And normally it is very good, and this location is clean. But today it was nasty. We waited outside because this location stunk so bad like sewer. I even mentioned it to the girl, that she might want to mention this to the management. All I got was a glazed donut look. It was too late to cancel since we ordered and asked 3 times if we can have to cut and wrapped for travel (5 hrs). It's not the same place as it used to be. My favorite Zankou Chicken location. I've been coming here for years, and although the interior ambiance may not be the best, it's really clean and the people who work there have always been friendly. And there's always someone who checks on you occasionally to see if you need anything. Their tabbouli, tahini, hummus, and garlic spreads are top-notch, and their falafels are always fried to order. The only gripe I have of this place is that there seems to be an inconsistency with the foods cooked on a spit (Tarna and especially Tri-tip Shawarma). On some days it can come out really dry and overcooked, but on other days it'll be cooked just right- and that's when its absolutely mouthwateringly tender and amazing. read more

Maybe they were having an off day, but this location was just ok compared to the Pasadena location. The chicken was salty than usual, the garlic spread isn't as garlicky as usual, and the bread was stale :( Compared to other Mediterranean chicken places this is definitely still better so it gets a 4 star. read more

Chicken was not fully cooked. After they pulled the manager from her break she was very apologetic, but by that point of chewing rubbery chicken I passed at the offer she gave of remaking the order. The cooks there really didn't seem to care when she pointed it out to them. The just sort of shrugged. As she was figuring out how to refund the money to my card, a customer was waiting behind me waiting to show the manager her plate with raw beef cubes that also were not cooked through. @ZankouChickenLA just had the worst experience at your Glendale location. I walked in ordered my Tara wrap like I do once a week. I gave the gentleman helping me 2 5$ bills to pay for the 8$ and change sandwich. One bill had the corner slightly torn off. All serial numbers were in tact. Legally if the numbers are still there you have to accept the bill. It is legal tender. The gentleman asked his co worker if they could accept and she said NO. I explained how it is still legal tender and needs to be accepted. They said they needed to call the manager. All of this was really slow and unessasary. I enjoy Zankou after my trips to the gym. It's so healthy and delicious. But alas no sandwich being made until they approve my ripped $5 bill . After 15 min. Manager threw the sandwich at me and said we will make a exception this time. I said "exception?" Huh? It is legal tender. If you need me to tag you in the laws I will. Just let me know. It was a awful experience and honestly I feel like a victim of discrimination. In this day you need to be careful. All I wanted was a sandwich and I was willing to pay for it. But my money wasn't good enough. FYI I've been a customer for 26 years!! read more

the place is a little tired and i had to wait a lit longer than i felt necessary, but the food is good. got the single chicken skewer plate and it was delicious. good amount of hummus, the chicken is cooked perfectly, and i got cabbage salad instead of rice. it was a healthy and filling lunch and i will definitely be back. read more

It's one of my favorite restaurants yes, but this location... Is nuts. Tonight we waited for our take out in the mist of angry customers. One elderly man was angry because he had been waiting an hour for his order. They just rolled their eyes and gave him a refund. Is this how you want your father treated? We watched one employee stuffing her face with wraps while another come to her from behind the counter complaining about the customers and the other employee said " they are just going to angry at you anyways" really loud. The girl goes back to the counter continues yelling out orders while giving a futchy face and wiping her nose over and over while handing out food. Awesome. We continued waiting, my fiancé gave them my correct name so when they called there was no confusion. They didn't care, they kept calling out strange names to different customers, including mine. No problem. We just wanted our food, something we were looking forward to. We open the bag and the juice from the picked turnips is all over ....they didn't close the lid. We open the container with Lula plate and its a mess and wrong. Instead of 2 Lula kabobs its one Lula kabob with chicken pieces IN the hummus rice etc....and a nice dark straight hair to accent the plate. The rice is more like onion slice overload with a little rice and my sharma wrap is mostly grizzle. So we called, eventually speak with Caroline the manager. We're told so sorry they're are short of staff (I'm calling BS... there were plenty) and she was noticing the staff were putting the plates together wrong, but we can come back to get a refund or it replaced tomorrow. Oh wow- Forget Disneyland- This place is worth the trip to L.A. all by itself! The garlic chicken is awesome- tender & succulent. The garlic sauce/spread is strong. Bring some breath mints! lol! :) The other major feature of this place is a sandwich/wrap called shawerma. It's pita bread, roast beef or lamb, and smothered with sesame seed sauce. It rocks! Seriously, this is fast food that tastes good. If In n Out Burgers sold Mediterranean food, this is what it would taste like. The only down side? They don't have a shop in Northern California yet. i remember the days when Zankou was just a small intimate armenian eatery that offered good food now it is sadly a corporate whore. Don't get me wrong on a good day its damn good! with your electronic menus, small Tapatillo packets hidden behind the counter, and the peppermint mints cleverly placed by the registers for those who don't wish to smell of garlic butter and zesty meats. But on bad days it's overpriced, skimpy on the portions, poor service, and the chicken lacks. Where have you gone lovely armenian women cashiers?! They've done something to their falafel because it's so much better than it used to be. The falafel wrap is cheap, delicious, and always gets the job done. I've also tried their lule kebab, beef kebab, and shwarma. They're all good but the lule kebab stands out to me as the best. You'll have to wait a little longer for the kebabs but it's worth it imo. Sometimes their whole chickens stand in for turkeys at my family's Thanksgiving dinners. It's hard to go wrong here. read more

Zankou is average and feels like the fast food version of Armenian food. It's the place I goto if it is late (because they have late hours) and I want this type of food. I think it is about a dollar or two high for the fast food feel of the place. For example their garlic spread comes in prepackaged condiment cups. That feels very fast foody and 10 dollars or so seems high for that type environment. There are plenty slightly nicer places with better food that have prices a bit cheaper or a bit more expensive. However, those places aren't open until 11! Chicken shawerma is oh kay- a bit too fatty but it is oh kay. Rice is usually fine and the staff is always pleasant. read more

By far the best tasting Chicken IMHO. Staff here is often friendly and slightly less generous with the pita bread. Just kindly remind them for extra pita and they will provide it gratis. The half chicken plate is more than enough to satisfy the hungriest visitor. I usually order it with the basmati rice and hummus as sides. The rice is good and the hummus is great! Been going to this Zankou for years now. I've also been using Postmates to get it delivered for a at least 6 months. I've been trying to overlook several problems they had, thinking they may be busy, or overwhelmed with many take out deliveries. However, they just keep getting worse and worse. This time I received my delivery and my chicken was burnt and rubbery, rice had no salt and bland, and my order was missing the garlic sauce and pickles. This is NOT the first time they've messed up my order. When I call to report it they seem completely indifferent. They are either under staffed or staffed with new people who couldn't care less about customer satisfaction. I will not be ordering from them again. Would much rather order from Tarme (where the food is organic and consistently delicious) or Panini Grill (the food is always constant and very good). It saddens me to write this, but I had to after giving them the benefit of the doubt several times. read more

The food was really good today. I haven't had a bad meal there yet. The clientele are super douchey, but that's Glendale for ya. The people that work there are pleasant and it's a reasonable price for the amount of food you are getting. Parking can raise your blood pressure, but once you start eating you soon forget about that. The chicken was very moist and the hummus is great. read more
