I would like to say thank you to Brittany for getting back to me about the debacle the from the previous purchase I had. It goes to show the commitment some companies have when it comes to their customers. Which I find very important. I went back again to the Pasadena location to give it another chance. This time compared to the previous one I listed was far much better. I ordered a shrawerma &chicken tarna plate. It was delicious the chicken was not dry at all and the tri tip were small bite size pieces. My boyfriend ordered his usual chicken kabob plate. Based on what we saw this time verses the last time he said it was much better. He had gotten a better portion of the kabobs this time than the previous time, noticed that there was more rice this time than the previous time. He was able to enjoy his food more this time than the last time. There was a gentleman there that was extremely friendly unfortunately I was unable to get his name, but he explained that if I ever need to grab my phone order to consistently bother one of employees so they can get it for me. It was definitely better than the previous time. I just think it all depends on the time of day when you order. Because this time around not only did I order over the phone but I also ordered around 5:00pm which I think is when there are at their busiest. read more

This review is not about the food. The food is great which is why I keep coming back. I'm not sure what it's like at other locations but this one in Pasadena is terrible when it comes to having my on-line order ready when it says it will be ready. I came 26 mins late to pick up my order and it's still not ready. Why bother giving me a pick up time if? This isn't the first instance at all. If a customer was in a rush or had a very small window of time to come pick up their food, they are just scr#wed I guess? Is it different with on-line orders vs. calling it in? Is it just the location? Everyone seems to be hustling, no one is idle...so why? Zankou can take a lesson from McDonald's, Chick-Fila or In & Out! 39 mins after I was supposed to have my order, it was ready. Fresh tomatoes and pickled reddish pairs well with the chicken, with a touch of the famous garlic sauce. so glad to know that they are keeping the same pre-covid price! They also got new containers for the meal; it has their name on them. The friend got the quarter chicken plater; I got the Half Chicken plater, it is about $3 difference, but the portion is quite different; we both agreed that Half Chicken is the better deal. A legend, Zankou is well known around Los Angeles for its roasted chicken, and until recently that's all I ever tried. I like how the Pasadena location is right next to a favorite comic book shop, unfortunately that shop is closed on Tuesdays but no matter, at least I had a great lunch. The menu here is tilted heavily towards ordering a half, quarter, or whole chicken, followed by falafel and tri-tip Shawarma or the chicken version. Sides are limited to hummus, tahini, and salad mix that includes diced romaine lettuce, diced tomatoes, sliced red onions, and pickled turnips. As far as I can tell, no French fries or rice are offered, just pita bread. The tri-tip Shawarma sounded great to me, there's a choice rolled up sandwich in pita or a plate that includes two pita breads with the sides mentioned above. I thinkthat in the future a roll-up would be best for lunch on a hot day, but now I know. Everything was great! I dined in, they called my name fairly quickly, and I was assembling the first pita as fast as possible. The meat was fairly tender and well seasoned. Sometimes you don't realize how much sodium is in those marinades until you're dehydrated later, so drink lots of water. The salad was fresh and no watery tomatoes. The onions were also freshly sliced. The garlic sauce, well I'd say it's 80% garlic and I appreciated their providing toothpicks and mints. A big yum, 4.2 stars and next time chicken or falafel, or both! Parking is in the rear or nearby streets, you may enter or leave from the front or back, which is great. read more

The title is all about chicken but I ordered shish and ground beef kebob. SO GOOOD!! Even my date that did order chicken said his favorite of all the food we had was my ground beef kebob. The combination plates come with rice(you can substitute for salad), hummus with bread and your choice of (2) meats. Accompaniments are a garlic spread of some sort (this stuff is gold!) and peppers. For lunch, 2 people can easily split a meal and be fully satisfied. Portions are very generous. Otherwise you'll have leftovers and that's always good! read more

I've been to several Zanku locations and this one seems to have the most issues with the quality of the food or their service. I keep coming only because I do enjoy Zanku's food in general and this is the closest location to me. I recently placed a pickup order via DoorDash and it indicated a 20 minute wait time. I arrived about 25 minutes later and I ask the lady behind the counter about my order and she said she would check and call me. I waited another 20 minutes and grew impatient and incredulous; so, I asked again and this time to another woman. It turned out my order has been sitting on the counter on the side all this time. In an area where there are many restaurants that serve similar food Zankou chicken has a special status. Maybe it's the fact that they were the intro to the delicious and diverse world of Kebab/kabobs and garlic sauce/toum. The combination of rice, chicken, garlic sauce, and salad makes for a satisfying meal. The food is consistent at this location and doesn't disappoint. They recently expanded their menu with bowls and added harissa which I have to say has been one of my favorites. Definitely an LA staple and must try. read more

COVID-19: Social distancing is not enforced at this establishment. Some of the staff wears a mask. All customers are not expected to wear a mask. It's optional now. Some of the staff also wears gloves. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor seating available with no limited capacity. They are not sanitizing in between customers. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing my food from this establishment several days ago, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is located in the back behind the restaurant. Not a lot of parking spots TBH. Plus, you have to reverse to leave the parking lot. It's a bit weird. Just park on the street and you'll be fine. Also, read the signs before you park. You will get a ticket in Pasadena if you don't pay attention to the sign. Food: I ordered a the roasted chicken wrap. The only thing better than their crispy rotisserie chicken is when it's wrapped in a warm fluffy pita with tomatoes and their unbelievably delicious house-made garlic spread. It comes with a side of their pickled turnips that are the perfect addition. It was overflowing with slices of juicy and tender rotisserie chicken. Such a bomb meal. Store & Staff: The restaurant itself is very clean, neat, and tidy. The staff here are very fast, friendly, and welcoming. They accept both cash and credit cards. Me and my friend both got a little sick as we both got one of those skewers for ourselves. Service has always been great and quick. The tables are always cleaned between customers quickly. We have been coming here since 2007. The food portion is now inconsistent and less than what it used to. The service was bad, the one who handled my order was not friendly. I tried to follow up my order since people ahead of me were getting their order, I was told rudely that I've only been waiting for 18 minutes. Very disappointed. I love Zankou and I will probably go back in the future, but my husband and I felt really sick yesterday. We didn't know (or think) that the chicken kebab was undercooked until I had the very last piece was left on the plate. So be careful when you order anything chicken from here. Check before you eat it! For the manager or owner, please have your employees cook chicken thoroughly no matter how busy the store might be. What I love the most about Zankou is the tender meats. The beef and chicken are so tender and I'm so curious how they keep the meat so tender especially after grilling it over the open flame. You definitely cannot beat Zankou chicken. It resonates with me so much. Growing up, my parents and I would get the family rotisserie chicken. My favorite part about Zankou is the garlic spread. Garlic spread on everything, please! Their tarna sandwiches are also super delish and would've ordered it on my last visit if I was ordering just for myself. This last visit was extra special as the business was offering 100% of their sales to the Armenian Humanitarian Fund. I definitely ordered a lot more than I wanted to, but you know...all of it was going towards a good cause - so honestly, thank you for that, Zankou! It's so heartwarming to see businesses like this support their country in times of need.
