girlfriend and I had girls night out last week and we came upon this little place after stumbling out of Gin Mill. Door guy was cool, we ordered a few drinks. I think it was Ladies Night, because our drinks (double tall) were $2. Needless to say we were stoked. we went to pay for our pool, but we wre told it was free. Later we needed some snacks and were pleasantly surprised that they kept their kitchen open that late. Delicious. We were a little disappointed that they were out of Bailey's when we tried to order a round of Car Bombs. We were, however, promised that more would be ordered and they'd be ready for us next time. Came here last night and I really wasn't to happy about anything. The people behind the bar were kind of rude and the drinks they made weren't good at all. The pool is WAY too expensive at $10/hr! There are plenty of bars in the area that the pool tables cost $1 a game! My boyfriend and I went to Zanzibar for the first time last Saturday and had a great time. The long island special was good and definitely worth $6. I love that the well vodka is smirnoff and not something like aristocrat where you wake up feeling like death after drinking it. I think the well rum was captain, which is awesome. The owner is a really nice, fun guy. He walked behind the bar with dozens of roses and started handing them out to all the girls. He gave me a really pretty one and it was something I will definitely remember; I never ever seen a bar hand out flowers for free. The fact that he gave out roses will bring me back to Zanzibar for sure. Also, there was a decent sized, young crowd (mostly 20s and lower 30s). Overall I had a really good time. read more

We threw my husband's 30th birthday party here over Labor Day weekend. It was the perfect spot for a big party of about 50 people. The owners reserved a space in the back for us, put signs on some of the pool tables that said "reserved" for our party only, had a table we could use for cake, gave us awesome happy hour prices on food & drinks all night, free champagne for a toast and promised to play whatever music we wanted (important to our group of music lovers and kept the party going!). I was originally going to bring in balloons but just ran out of time to stop and get some - Zanzibar ended up having some extra purple and silver balloons from the Rockie's game so they offered to blow some up for our party. So nice! The bartenders did a fantastic job dealing with such a big crowd but everyone down to the guy who helped me pack up all my decorations at the end of the night, were very nice and attentive. The quality of the food was really good too - our party ordered every appetizer and people got burgers and stuff too - everything was hot and fresh and tasted great... And seriously, you can't beat the prices! read more

Went here on a Wednesday, and even with a Rockies game going on, we didn't have a problem finding a metered parking space a short distance away. The place wasn't exactly busy but it wasn't dead either and had zero problem with getting a drink at the bar. The pool tables were OK, some nicer than others. played about 5 rounds of pool. Drinks were reasonably priced, and loved the outdoor patio area on Larimer Street with a small fence around it that you could take your drink out and smoke at the same time. I'll be back. read more

Stopped here on after the St. Patrick's Day parade and got four Irish car bombs.... They poured them from a tap into a glass altogether. Such a rip off, you can't premix because the Bailey's will curdle in the drink. Tasted like a half pint of Guinness but charged the full amount. Don't bother here. After seeing ZanZBar (I believe Taffer had changed it to Solids and Stripes?) on Bar Rescue, as a tourist... I had to visit! The facility itself mostly looks like the re-model but I can tell stuff has been added that doesn't really go with the theme that was originally done. I like the billiards and even the air hockey table! The place though, didn't feel very unkempt/clean. There was a couch positioned right by the entrance to the kitchen/dish room. Since my friends and I were out of towners we wanted spend time together and enjoy and it was difficult to do that all sitting in a straight line. One of us was standing while we sat and yes, he was in the way of the kitchen entrance but couldn't really communicate with us in any other way. The non-bar staff were very rude, didn't smile, and even rudely stated "it'd be nice if you weren't in the way." The layout is not completely socially friendly. We liked the menu options and the cocktails! I do understand the black and purple menu coloring up its hard to read the names of the food/drinks. Overall, if return. read more

I was extremely excited to go to this bar after Bar Rescue. I went in today with my girlfriend to check it out. About 8 people at the bar when the Rockie's game started in an hour and a half. Just dead in there. I ordered "The Scratch" when I finally got service. This drink was the worst drink I've ever received at a bar. The glass was very small, it was 1/4th bitters, and she added even more ice after mixing to give me about 5 ounces of liquid to drink. Just nasty. It took me 15 minutes to close my tab because the only bartender went out for a long cigarette break. Just awful, never go to this bar. So many better bars around it. read more

I don't know what we were thinking. We saw the place on Bar Rescue, but from some of the yelp reviews, it sounds like things hadn't changed much. My boyfriend and I aren't the downtown type, but wanted to give it a shot anyway. After work, we headed down there for happy hour. Walking in, we noticed a ton of drunks lounging around - the same drunks you see asking for money on the street. Still, we were willing to give this place a try because they advertised darts on their website, and we love a good game of darts. Lo and behold, no dart boards in this place. Talk about false advertising. My boyfriend isn't a drinker but will enjoy an NA sometimes. Bartender let us know that besides not having darts, they also don't have games, or any NA beers. We looked around one last time, and didn't see much reason to stay. They didn't have what we wanted, and it wasn't really the group we were hoping to share a bar with either. I saw Zanzibar on an episode of "Bar Rescue". I had to check this place out for myself especially after watching this show. Right as I walked in, I was really amazed with the interior decorations. The LED lights all over the place really brightens it up. I was impressed. The bartenders greeted me with a smile and not only were they very attractive, but they were extremely kind as well. It was happy hour (11am-7pm). The drinks were extremely cheap. ($2-$6 range) Can't complain about that. I don't understand why this place has been given bad reviews. I enjoyed my time there. Cheap drinks, hot bartenders, and free pool. Why wouldn't I love this place? And we met the owner too. Ami, I think was his name. He was very nice and actually bought us a round of shots. I give Zanzibar 5/5 stars. Great service, atmosphere, and an overall fun bar to be at. I will definitely be coming back! read more

Went here the other night for my birthday. While it was not the worst place I've ever been to, I was not terribly impressed. The place is still named Zanzibar even after the bar rescue where they changed it to "solids and stripes". That's would be just fine if not for all the "solids and stripes" signs still around, it's a bit confusing to me. There was not a lot of people there which was nice. We knew we were going to have to wait a few minutes for drinks, and on a Friday night that is totally okay. First of all there was only 2 bartenders, not enough on a busy night as far as I'm concerned. We waited patiently, but after the bartender skipped us twice to serve to groups who I had seen come well after us, I had to say something. She finally acknowledged us, and we got out drinks. I had a beer which was fine, my wife ordered a cocktail, and she said it was not all that great. I then asked the bartender how the pool tables worked, and if we could get on a waiting list. She replied "oh people play for hours, I have no idea." She then told me I would just have to wait for someone to bring a rack of balls back up, and maybe then I could get them. For a place that claims to be a billiards bar, I was very disappointed at this. All in all we made it a good night, but better bar service, better drinks, and a better system for pool would have made a good night in a great night. read more

i used to shoot pool here a lot. they have the best deal in the metro, and have pretty decent tables. i haven't shot here in years and was hoping its the same deals as it used to be. read they were on some tv show, and was hoping they haven't changed too much. hope they have the same high quality brunswicks and free pool with drink purchase. the only thing i wished would be better back then is matching ball sets. they have some really high quality pool balls and some generic balls mixed into the same sets. i have had one weird experience with an elderly war vet trying to solicit sex from me...he seemed like a really cool old timer and i was enjoying his company and playing pool with him. but then it got weird and he even later apologized to me for making a pass like that. i never held it against the hall though...but not fucking cool, what is wrong with some people?! read more

I was super excited to go into Zanzibar after seeing it on Bar Rescue, but come to find out I was highly disappointed. When we first walked in at 10 pm there were only 10 people max in the bar on a Saturday when the rest of the block was filled with people! The staff was extremely rude, I have never been to any bar with such rude bartenders... if it was your first time in there they would treat you like dirt, she was extremely nice to people that she knew. Drinks were decent but the inside still had all the solids and stripes menus but the owner changed the name back to Zanzibar so I was extremely thrown off from that. It was dirty as well... The bar at least looked cleaned!!! I would NEVER EVER go back to this bar!!!! It's not worth it! read more

this bar is okay. i know it was on an episode of bar rescue and people find the novelty in that. i know zanzibar has been in denver for a long time now, but i feel that it has the potential to hold better standards for itself. it didn't feel very clean or very well maintained. i like that there are a lot of pool tables to use and the drink prices are pretty cheap. the drinks that were created for the bar are good. considering this place is around a few other bars, this probably wouldn't be my top choice. more of a stop in place to play a game of pool, have a drink, and then move on to the next place. the employees didn't seem very enthused about being there. i know its hard to work in a place when its dead, but when customers do come in, show them that you're stoked for them to be there and give them an awesome experience! read more

Went there on a Sunday around noon with my husband, we each ordered one of there specialty drinks from the Bar rescue episode. The bartender was a little unsure as she kept looking at the sign above the bar with the drinks listed. I also had a Beer my glass had a huge chip.. Drinks were ok. Except when she was pulling one of the mixes out of the fridge, smelled it made a 'EWW" look . Thankfully she did not use that. I have only been here during the week to have a few relaxing afternoon beers but have been satisfied every time and come down when I can. Free pool Monday-Friday is nice, and they have $3 domestics on happy hour(s) (long happy hours). Their chairs at the bar are comfortable and they have a good full bar selection. Their food is good (burgers and fries I have tried) and their staff is a friendly. During the day hours when I am here the bar tenders have all been nice and polite, giving you privacy to watch the tv, is talkative if you want to get into conversation and always have a fresh drink when requested. My 4 stars and not 5 stars lay with the "unfinishedness" of the bar. It's something I personally love but could see where some would woe. (Back light bottle lights not working, open and confusing feel to kitchen and bathroom) if you can over see these small flaws you will be opened to a great bar staff at great prices with a friendly regular crowd that greets with open arms. read more

Hey, I went in today and they were trying out some new server signal, its a light bar that alerts the server that you need them, its got 3 buttons on it, one for the server, one for a refill and one for the check - how cool is that!! I'm glad that I get to decide when I get the service I want. This place gets kind of busy and the way I see it the bartender only comes when I need her and brings exactly what I want - well not exactly :) - anyway you have to go and check it out. read more
