My friends and I went to ZAZ restaurant. I order the jerk chicken meal, chicken it was dry. Needs more improvement.

I have done takeout from ZAZ a number of times. Decided to dine in this time around and at some point I kept noticing workers from the kitchen were walking in and out and around the establishment without masks. Quite unapologetically, it actually shocked me. So it's zero stars for me. Truly unfortunate. COVID pandemic disproportionately affecting black people and a black establishment that's frequented by black people can't even do their part in preventing spread of the virus. read more

Very good Jamaican place! The prices are pretty up there but that's the price you pay for authenticity, amirite? I got the jerk salmon and I'm drooling thinking about it. I wish I got the curried chickpeas but I got the plantains instead. They had a sweet sauce with it so the sweetness was overpowering a bit. Their menu isn't consistent so you wanna check out their social media beforehand. The food was good.. I had salmon, Jollof and broccoli. But I booked a reservation for 8:30pm on a Friday night. We had to wait at least 25 minutes to be seated still. Once in the dining area there was barely anyone there so I didn't quite understand the reason for the wait. It took another 10-15 mins to receive water. Once we received our food and drinks we were happy about the taste! The waiter didn't check in much so when I did catch her to ask for a refill of tea she stated that the restaurant was closed and she put everything away. I thought that was a bit rude seeing that she didn't ask if we needed any refills prior to doing so. She didn't offer an alternative like soda or anything so I asked someone else for a soda. The food was good, service not so much. I'd go back for brunch to see if things are better during the day. I'm glad I finally visited, as I've heard great things about Zaz. Zaz was brought to our attention when the chef was interviewed in the Boston Globe last week. I have been driving by then location for years but never noticed it. Yes it says "Zaz" on the storefront but doesn't not say anything other than that like restaurant, fusion or anything else. It looked like a nail or hair salon considering the storefronts on the block. They need to stand out because they're good. We tried the jerk chicken with Thai fried rice and the cesar salad with jerk chicken. All the ingredients were fresh and the spices were right on. My only complaint is that my entree had three drumsticks and nothing else as far as chicken parts. A variety of pieces would have been nice. I don't mind drumsticks too much but I imagine another customer might be disappointed. Why not serve jerk chicken the way the Jamaicans do by chopping the chicken into erratic pieces with a machete or cleaver? We will return since the menu has some interesting options. Plus they're open for lunch. Servers were very nice at pick-up. read more

Used to love this place when it first opened...the food was amazing and the staff was warm and welcoming. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and staff has changed quite a bit. The food is still tasty, however the recipes are not as great as they once were before. In addition, the portion sizes have significantly lowered while the prices have gone up. Also, waiting an hour for takeout? Absurd. As for catering, i recently went to a wedding that they catered and they were beyond subpar. In fact, they ran out of food! Look NO FURTHER Where do I begin!? The food I had catered for my baby shower was d-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s! I received rave reviews from all of my guests. If you are looking for a restaurant to cater your event, look no further! Call them you won't regret it. They are very professional...and not only is the food great the presentation of the food was presented elegantly. My fav was the Asian Shrimp wraps, plantains, lemon pepper wings, and the Basil fried rice (so the entire menu basically lol). Giovanna, the catering manager, was patient (as I changed my order quite a few times) and just great to work with. My husband and I have also ordered takeout from this restaurant and we were not disappointed! You can tell this food is made with passion. Their fruit smoothies are to die for! An hour!!! For take out...incredible...so wrong I will start off with this. This review is on there take out. We decided in February to pick a black owned restaurant twice a week. We chose to dine in. The service was slow but not annoyingly slow and our server was extremely pleasant. It was a new experience for us and we was enjoying eating in a restaurant for the first time since the pandemic. The food was hot flavored and awesome. This is why this review is not on there food nor is it on their in door dining this is focus on their take out We ordered waited and went in 30 minutes later only for the women say we will call you and pointed to a sign that says if your looking for fast food you have come to the wrong place, rude. I get there food is fresh but an hour come on and it was take out. When another 30 minutes went by and we went back in to see what was going on the only thing the person had to say, when we mention to the fact they she was suppose to call us was here's you order. No....i apologize with an excuse of some sort absolutely nothing. When we returned home which is only a 10 min drive the food was cold only led me to believe our food was just sitting there. This entire experience ruin my first experience and i will never get take out and I will be hesitant to eat in there only because the service that we received by this individual was horrible. read more

We did Mother's Day brunch at ZAZ and boy were we super satisfied and glad we did!!! It was busy but EVERYONE including management treated us like VIP!!!! I wish I could give MORE than 5 stars!!!! The food was the BEST I have had in years delicious from start to finish!!! My family can't stop talking about wanting to go back!!!! I, placed an online order thru GUBHUB. My order says, it was picked up by GRUBHUD drivers (30 minutes after initial order). I can clearly see driver is on the way. Then GRUBHUB map of driver disappears, my order gets canceled by ZAZ and it states, cancelled do to out of item on order. Why wouldn't they contact me to let me know, they were out of that particular item, which does not state what the item was. I just wasted 1 hour waiting for my food. Crazy thing is, I had their food before, when they first opened, and never returned. However, my wife and daughter brought home some food today from them, and I figure let me give it another try. The food at the River Street location is PHENOMENAL!! I wholeheartedly believe in supporting Black businesses which makes it a bit difficult to share the following. Sadly and unfortunately I can't say the same for the ambiance or service. This is NOT a venue that is warm and cozy should you decide to sit and eat in. I LOVE this place - the food is amazing and the service is great.. But there's a couple of things to note: - Recently they've had very strange hours (without updating their hours on google or other sites) - like only open on Friday and Saturday.. this is because they've been preparing to expand (to next door). - It's so dark inside that it always looks like it's closed. Just walk up and pull on the door to see if it's open. - Even though they serve breakfast here, they don't serve coffee (at least not right now [2/25/2020]), so if you're one of those that likes coffee with your breakfast, I'd grab a coffee from the Dunkin's down the street. Don't let the non-descript outer appearance of this place fool you at all! When I walked in with my friend for an after-Sunday-church- service brunch, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into, BUT... the food is SOO delicious! It was a buffet service (all you can eat), which had jerk chicken, and yummy salmon, and gooey mac & cheese, and crispy green salad, and a tasty shrimp dish, and warm buttery cornbread, and stir-fried rice, and mouth- watering waffles and French toast, and hashbrowns with a cream sauce ... everything was seasoned well and to my liking. It's really something! The music playing in the background gave it a nice ambience too - mostly Afropop. I recommend visiting and enjoying a meal (or more) there. I've been wanting to try Zaz and ordered from Grub Hub. We ordered the jerk shrimp and smoked jerk tofu plates. With one we had quinoa and plantains and with the other we had jollof rice and broccoli. The food as all very good. The smoked tofu was out of the world. The only problem was there were only three small slices. That seemed very skimpy. They were more generous with the shrimp which is more expensive so rather puzzling. The plantains were a tiny bit dry but of course they did have to travel in the cold so that could have been the problem. There was plenty of (too much?) quinoa and jollof rice and both were very good. And the broccoli was slightly charred and delicious. I would have given them 5 stars if they'd been less skimpy with the tofu. WIll try again - hopefully actually in the restaurant - as the food was overall really good. read more

I ordered Jerk Salmon Burger, which comprised a tasty salmon burger, a thin slice of tomato, a piece of iceberg, a very thin spread of avocado and jerk sauce, and burger role which you can easily find in Wegmans. Plus a great portion of fries, no better than McD's fries. My boyfriend had Basil Fried Rice with Both Chicken and Shrimp ($15). The portion of rice is large, a large bowl full of rice, and rice, and rice. 【Waitress was friendly, but service was lacking】We ordered a cup of apple juice, and asked for water because I was on diet and hoped to spare from extra calories. However, the waitress didn't get us water until 50 minutes later when I had to ask twice again. And when I asked whether the burger came with sides, because if so I would prefer to have sweet potato fries instead of regular one. And the waitress answered that there was no side with the burger unless I wanted it. It turned out that the burger did come with fries, and I had lost my chance to a la carte it. With all that being said, the price is low (no more than $20 per person), the place is clean and casual, with cool jazz music. We went lunchtime to celebrate a friend finishing his coursework. I had takeout from Zaz before- it is a small, cozy place which seats about 20 people. Important to know- you need to be prepared to wait for your food, it is not fast food but prepared to order. I called ahead to see how busy they were. Not huge in choices but absolutely delicious. We had mango and coconut tea smoothies- very tasty. Two of us had spicy Thai rice; one had jerk chicken with coconut rice and lightly stir fried vegetables. Sweet chili sauce on the side. The Asian chicken wrap was my favorite, but our guests raved about the shrimp and salmon wraps too. The hushpuppies (veggie and salmon) ran out fast, so get extra if you want these for catering! Here's my short review for ZAZ huge disappointment! If I could give a negative star I certainly would! The WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Don't order for catering! I asked for jerk chicken and black rice to be served to 6/7 guests. What I've ordered and what did I receive. I paid 188. for this! It's frustrating to not receive what you pay for.
