My coworker and I stopped by Zenna on lunch today and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the service & food was. I hadn't been to Zenna in years prior to today! Our server appeared to be the only one working and she worked the area & didn't skip a beat!! I ordered the lunch serving for chicken fried rice (spice level 3) & it had a nice kick. It came with a small salad the dressing was semi sweet and different. I don't have to have it again but wasn't bad!! The chicken fried rice stole my heart! I can always rely on this spot for AMAZING food! We have been countless times and are never let down by anything I've tried. A staple for me is the tom kah soup, it's so creamy and packed full of flavor, you can get it with a protein and choice of noodles or rice. Perfect for a cold day or any day. All of their noodle dishes are great, many options for whatever you're feeling and you'll never get bored. SO. MUCH. FLAVOR! I'm always sure to get a beef salad as well, it light, crisp and forever fresh! It's a great pallet cleanser for the many flavors you are sure to taste at this spot. And you can never go wrong with sushi! They offer all the typical rolls and some unique ones as well. Cleanliness of this restaurant is not superb, it could really be much better (sticky tables and menus). Also the service could use an up tweak as well. If you just need super casual no-frills Japanese/Thai dining, this will work. I've only visited this location, so I can't speak for the others. Pros: 1- The teriyaki chicken and shrimp combo and fried rice came out hot and seemed like it wasn't under a heat lamp. 2- The sushi was enjoyable and fresh enough. 3- The happy hour margarita was $5. Cons: 1-The shrimp in the teriyaki meal had a "fishy" taste and smell. I'm not sure what would cause this, but I wouldn't order it again. 2- The place is very shabby and unassuming, and is in the parking lot of a motel 6. The entrance has signage that looks like a bar. I'm a noob when it comes to Thai food so I don't know much about what's considered good and what's considered not. With that said, and with my limited Thai food experience, I did quite enjoy their pad thai! I think what I enjoyed most about it was the noodle texture. It was one of those textures that make it very pleasant to eat, so it just made it all the better. It was also incredible value. The portion size was no joke, and for the price they charge it at, it is definitely worth it. If you're looking for a quick bite of Thai food and are super hungry, this is definitely the place to go. I don't doubt there are better Thai places in the area, but if you're going for quantity over quality, as I often do, then this is the place to go. Honestly, I've always loved this place and their food! And they always have great happy hours... Unfortunately, (with the past couple years (Covid) and tons of really bad luck it seems this place has been going slightly downhill. Service has been taking longer and longer on my to go orders and call in orders to pick up; something is wrong or missing. I recommended this place too many people and I was just told that the bar area was not tiptop clean recently. Which breaks my heart. I think I will always continue to eat here if it's open. Sushi, noodles, rice, curry always seem to hit the spot even if not 100% correct or takes a minute to get to us. Also I love the prices! So I've passed this place several times on the interstate and never made the time to try it; man am I kicking myself for not stopping in sooner! I came in with my Uncle Friday for a late lunch. Gave us run down Chinese buffet vibes from the outside. And honestly I get iffy when Asian restaurants offer different cuisines (eg. this place is Thai and Sushi); most tend to be a disappointment. So for starters, walking in this place it's huge, unique decor; but the place overall is clean and the staff was very friendly coming in. We were sat and very quickly greeted by our waitress. She was amazing by the way; especially running the whole place solo. I was reading other reviews and I dunno; some people take away stars for silly reasons. And FYI (I'm Asian; so don't no body take no offense to this) normally really authentic, hole in the wall places, that cook to order, where the food is fabulous, and have all Asian staff; the service of the waitress is not always the best, but that's how it is over seas. They get your drinks and take your order and let you eat. So these bad reviews just based on service; y'all go zip it! And for the record; our waitress was amazing! She recommended amazing dishes to try that were more authentic to the cuisine. So let's go back to the menu. They have several. Drink menu, which I didn't look at bc I really don't drink; a lunch menu that I also didn't look at bc I like dinner portions, and authentic Thai menu and then the regular Zenna menu with Thai and sushi. My rating is solely on taste of food, excluding sushi, because we did not order any sushi. We each ordered a bowl of the tom kha and tom yum soups; both were amazingly delicious. Next we got the tulips dumplings steamed, they were good. Then we just ordered a bunch of plates to try. The Thai Basil crisp pork was really nice, the beef salad, the water spinach with crisp pork and the dried fish salad were all AMAZING! Highly recommend! The flavor profiles; everything just made me feel like I was in Thailand eating. The Heaven beef was good; but I've never had it with coriander; so if you don't like coriander don't get this one. The side of the cucumber salad was great and the salted egg salad was good as well. If you don't like authentic Thai food don't order half of what we ordered. Now I'm a lover of mango and sticky rice; but I changed it up and went with our waitress' recommendation of the coconut custard. OMG! Amazing! Not overly sweet; but that balance of flavors. Definitely will be back here trying other dishes we didn't get to this visit! Zenna's food is amazing! The heaven Beef is my absolute favorite. My family goes here at least once a month on Sunday and the food is always amazing. I appreciate the staff as well but I have one major complaint and it's pretty important. I hate to complain at all but I just hope someone takes this into consideration. So like I said, we usually come on Sunday afternoon. For some reason they BLAST the most terrible music ever at a completely unreasonable loud level. It's not a club okay? It is soooo irritating. My family have just accepted we are going to eat and fight to converse the entire time. Who would think this is a good idea? It's soooo miserable. It's only for the amazing food that we come back. Before my ex and I began to argue, he even commented "she's good at her job" and I agreed. Also, she was genuinely sweet from the get go. The server was friendly and got our orders without writing anything down, though that turned out to be detrimental to one of our friends. Other than that and couple missing menus, I say service was superb. I ordered the drunken noodle with shrimp. It's one of dish that's hard to screw up. The waitress asked me what level of spiciness I wanted. I asked 2 out of 5, but as it turns out, I could not taste the spice at all. However, the noodles were amazing. This was my first time at this restaurant and I thought overall it was pretty tasty honestly. I got the vegetable fried rice and it was literally so amazing. They have daily happy hour specials which fills the place up right before dinner so get there in time if you want to take advantage of them. I'm a creature of habit so I always get the same thing, Spicy basil fried rice with chicken and a side of peanut sauce, the level of spice is just right. My husband always gets a curry, he enjoys the Panang and yellow curry with chicken, extra spicy. Prices are great, staff is usually rushed due to how busy the are, crowd always seems to be youthful towards the evening. Love this place as the food is great and it's open so late. The bento box lunch specials are a steal. If you can make it before 3p, go check it out, you won't regret it. Make sure to get at least a level 3 or else it'll taste too kid friendly. The bento box comes with a soup, salad, edamame, and California rolls. Great deal for less than $8. Substations can be made. I always get two salads instead of edamame as the peanut dressing is bomb. I wish they sold it separately. Skip the dessert - got the fried ice cream and it was ok. They have some of the best dried rice that I've ever had. Not greasy buy yet so much flavor. The service here isn't the best but after a while you get use to it you kind have to get there attention every now and then. So don't be afraid to raise your hand up in the air to get one of the workers of assistance. The ambiance is okay nothing special its just a place to get some pretty good food. If u can take spicy , please order tomyum noodle soup with spicy level 5 n sour level 5.one of the best in Plano. The tofu satey is a must. Minced Pork rice soup is a must. Over all the food is on the sweet side. Even when we asked for spicy - we picked spice level 5 (highest) - there was not even the slightest kick. Everything tasted almost one note with the sweetness that over powers the dishes. We did enjoy the chicken wings over all (could use a bit more salt and garlic), the seafood fried rice and panang curry. The crab rangoon dip was a fail - the "dip" was extremely watery and little to no crab in it - good idea but poor execution. Everything else was mediocre at best. The only reason that gets me to come back more often is the hh. Drink specials are all either $2 or $3. i.e. $2 all well drinks/margarita. $3 cocktails. Can't really beat that, especially when they hook it up. Food is also cheap. Everything is less than $6. The $3 yellowtail roll was pretty decent for the price. Another item we enjoyed was the tamarind chicken wings. Since everything is so cheap here, you might as well order everything on the hh menu. Just be careful when you order whiskey and coke vs. crown and coke. Cause if you ask the waiters if they are the same price, they'd say yes. But when they bring the tab it's way more expensive.
