Great Biergarten in Jersey City! Zepplin Hall is humongous, the middle room is massive with huge screen TVs where they display all the sports events. Great selection of tap beers, including Ommegang. The pretzels are imported from Germany and delicious. My personal favorite food there is the tomato soup with the cheese pretzel(their take on a grilled cheese with soup). I truly want to love this place so please take this as a constructive. Beer & atmosphere was good, it's a very cool space. Food was hard to eat, had a pretzel with 3 meats and EVERYTHING was so salty we threw it away. Lastly the mens bathroom was dirtier than a truck stop, and not one bit of soap ... makes me extremely concerned about the cleanliness of the peoples hands making my salt entree...... Clean you bathrooms (make sure there is hand soap) & evaluate the quality & ingredients (amount of salt) in your food and you will see an increase of regular business. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. It might help that this is the only place I know in NJ that has franziskaner weissbier on tap, my favorite beer. Either way, the beer selection and bratwurst is hard to beat. I believe the best way to order food here is the party platters. $25 split amongst 4 people got us 3 or 4 sausages, sauerkraut, potato pancakes, and a large collection of french fries. Another group got what I will call the fried platter, featuring calamari, onion rings, fries and some other goodies. I have seen the complaints about the crowd, but I've been here on 2 Saturdays this year and experienced no problems. Maybe its a seasonal thing. There is a German style band that really livens up the main room. I think since the Biergarten is no longer brand new the crowds have become more manageable. I was in Jersey City on a work trip and some local coworkers mentioned this place. I'm glad they did, you can't go wrong with $4 half liter brews at happy hour. This isn't just Bud or Coors either, you get a large variety of beers on tap for that price. The place is HUGE inside and was mostly empty on a weeknight, we sat outside on the huge and fairly empty patio where we could get a little sun. I can't speak for the dinner options but the giant soft pretzel is a must try and the sausage platter is excellent as well. If I'm ever back in Jersey City I'll be back here and am still amazed at the prices, you can barely get a skunky Coors Light for $4 at DC prices. Great for big groups to sit around, hang out and just relax. The space is huge, there are basically three large rooms and a huge outdoor space in the back that has firepits. Within each space there are bars, so in total there are four bars, so even on really really busy nights, you will be able to find a bartender to help you. All the tables are giant wooden picnic tables, so its very open and just great to hang. In the summer the outdoor space is great, winter the fire pits are nice but honestly its better to stay indoors. The beers can be served in large beer mugs, so just make sure to only order a huge beer only if you can drink it fast enough!!! So you don't end up drinking super warm beer. Beer selection is huge! Even if you don't like beer you will be able to find something that suits your tastes. When I do drink beer (very rare), I frequently drink one that tastes like fruit loops. But otherwise, I also enjoy the hard liquor options too. The food is great!! Pretzels are amazing, German food is amazing, most of the sausages are great! Although I always have a great time here just beware that you will be spending plenty! So its good to come and split things with your group and just drink a beer and enjoy the ambience. Ok, I'm uncool. I did not have as much fun as everyone else when I came here... but hey, I was the designated driver. And more importantly, it was Saturday night. I was a little overwhelmed by the crowds, as I normally come to beer gardens to chill out with friends and good beers, but chilling out is not the name of the game here. That being said, there are an incredible number of good beers on tap, and the list is only growing. The prices at $5-6 for a half-liter are not bad either. You could come here for a few weeks in a row and not try everything. That scores points. The food line is sort of like a fight waiting to happen, but moves relatively quickly. The fix-ins are mediocre at best, the sauerkraut is lackluster, but the simple bratwurst will do. Their cheesy bratwurst, I'm not so sure about as I'm just not American enough to go for meats injected with cheese. I chose to eat the sampler ($12) which gives you the choice of any three sausages and is served with fries. I can know for certain I would not come back here again on a Friday or Saturday night, but might be ok with chilling during a weekday or night when the place is hopefully retaining some sense of cool. read more

Huge venue. The long tables are great for accomodating big groups and that large projector screens are perfect for watching a big sports game. Came here with a group of 6 to watch the ncaa tourney. Easy to find a table. The food was decent, but not exceptional and certainly overpriced. The currywurst I ordered ($14) was basically a big bratwurst with a curried tomato sauce. What was depressing was there was only 1 stout and 0 porter. Almost all the beers were in the mid color range on down through blondes and IPAs. So I really didn't have any real favorite on the menu. I know IPAs are hipster and your target audience is hipster, but I'm only asking for maybe 3 selections in the dark range instead of 1. Maybe a brown ale or two also. Just keep us old farts in mind. * Two spaces at play, the fireplace room and the giant - I'll call it zeppelin room. The fireplace room is quiet and cozy. I like it in there. It's not small but it doesn't feel large. The zeppelin room is giant and feels maybe more like a beer hall, or like the inside of a zeppelin. With live music playing, it's hard to hear yourself think. Conversation is strained and the dance floor/stage area only really had about 20-30 people watching the band. I don't have a problem or a solution at hand here, just observations, but the fireplace room is definitely my vibe should I return. If I were sitting in the fireplace room during happy hour and the food was amazing, I would consider 5 stars. I really have to come back hungry to finish this review. Awesome German themed bar located down the street from the Jersey Ave lightrail stop. My favorite part about this place is the giant outside area in the back, which is why this place is best in the spring/summer. I can't really comment on the food, I once had the cheese burger, it was very good but hey, a burger is a burger. There is multiple bars, a few inside and one outside bar. I believe they have over 140 beers on tap, impressive. My current favorite is the Carton 077XX Double IPA. Everytime I go to this Biergarten I notice a slightly younger crowd of about 21-35. My observations: The space is great! The beer selection is amazing! The food is good but not great. The staff is accommodating but not overly friendly. I would definitely hit the spot up for German food and beer with my buddies... or I would even host a birthday or other event here. I wouldn't go back with just one or two other people, however. It just seems more like a place for groups. Note that the space is not fancy but rather a no-nonsense beer tavern look, which perfectly fits the goal of Zeppelin. The space is quite large, different rooms to choose from - all with great TVs, and easy access to an outdoor patio. We've enjoyed coming here for years: strong selection of drinks, the food has improved in terms of choice and quality, the location is convenient (light rail, Path, all that free parking for patrons), and the service has been good. The TVs make it good for sports and the outdoor area feels good in the summertime. My shout-out goes to Yoshi of management. I recently left a voicemail message with management about an issue particular to me. To my astonishment Yoshi called me back only about an hour later - patient, understanding, empathetic, and friendly. They do not treat Jersey City like we are a community. They have bad business practices. On June 4th I was supposed to have an event at Zeppelin Hall bringing in 15 people. I had worked with the events coordinator to have a recurring event every month for the summer. On June 3rd, I received a call that Zeppelin would be closed tomorrow, monday, the day of my event, due to weather. (The weather turned out to be amazing). This is the say before the event at 3:30pm. With in 2 hours I was able to find a replacement location because Jersey City has an amazing community. However Zeppelin Hall thinks they are above this community and they don't have to treat other businesses or people with respect. Once I received the call, I said that I would have to rethink having the other events there (meaning I am not going to have my events there). Well they didn't get the memo and on July 7th, I received the same phone call. I told the events manager this was horrible business as it is the day before the event and she has the audacity to say she was giving me the courtesy of calling 2 days prior. This time she said they were going to offer Surf City to us (owned by the same owners). I ignored this as I already had made plans for the upcoming events elsewhere. Did Zeppelin Hall think I would not have made other plans the first time they did this? While the chef cooks amazing specialty food and it is a big space with a great outdoors, it is totally not worth it for how they treat people. There are other great, outdoor locations with wonderful food and work with businesses in Jersey City like we are part of a community. And treat customers with actual good service. Forget Astoria, Jersey City has it's own Beergarden now. This is a really nice place to spend a sunny afternoon, you can sit outside at long picnic tables and under big umbrellas to enjoy a few beers (even better when you can just walk home!) There is indoor seating for when the weather isn't as nice. They have a lot of different beers that I had not tried before, but I like that they will give you a small sample of any beer before you commit to the stein. At $5, the beers are more than reasonable. When I was there, on a weekend late afternoon/early evening, it wasn't too crowded, but I hear that it gets crowded later at night. The food - sausages and french fries, were good, and go great with beer. There isn't much to offer vegetarians, aside from french fries. Being brand new, the place is sparkling clean, but the staff seems to be still trying to get up to speed. I think once the staff gets the hang of it, things will run even smoother, and Zeppelin Hall will only get better! read more

Great place to spend some time with a group of friends. Large picnic tables can seat a dozen of your friends, and the music and noise is quiet enough you can actually hear each other talk. The place is very large, and there is also a nice sized outdoor seating area. Beer comes in pints (about $5-6) and liters ($10-12), as well as pitchers. I really enjoyed the beer flytes, though. You can pick German, British, Belgium, or American Craft. You get four 5oz samples for 7 bucks. It's a great way to try out new beers. The food is obviously of the German variety and was adequate for the atmosphere. I ordered the sausage sampler for $12 which allows you to pick three different types of sausage and comes with fries. Zeppelin Hall is located right next to a Hudson-Bergen Light Rail stop for convenient public transportation from the surrounding area. There's a free surface parking lot, as well. read more

Instead, it's ONLY filled with bacon, peppers, and cheese. Yes, I know that is what's described under the menu item BUT when you name it CHEESESTEAK, it's very misleading and would expect steak. This item should be called "Hoagie Bacon", "Bacon Cheese" or "Bacon on a Hero". How about you look at Charley's menu for reference - example: they don't name it a chicken cheesesteak; instead, they call it a "Chicken Philly" or "Chicken Buffalo". For someone like me who has traveled all over the world I am so proud and impressed to see a traditional German biergarden in Jersey City. The location is ideal for the size of the biergarden - walking distance from a light rail station and closest to Paulus Hook. They have a huge parking lot to accommodate the maximum capacity in the restaurant. Tons of outdoor and indoor seating. Inside there are two rooms one with flat screen TVs and a bar and the larger room with another bar, a stage and a concessions window. Nice place to bring a group of friends or hangout with the family. Typical authentic German cuisine including my favorite Currywurst - a Berlin staple. The food menu has any kind of sausage or wurst you are looking for in addition to a decent selection of starters to choose from. I suggest the wings and onion rings! They are one of the only places I know that have a good sour beer. Not all beers can be bought at all the bars it must depend on what they have on tap and how much. I also saw that the beer menus that they had were not 100% up to date to what they actually had on tap so I saw ask to see what else they have to offer. The wait times were long for food you have to get the food yourself but clean up is easy. When it gets busy it's busy. The place is enormous (in both indoor and outdoor space), so you can invite a lot of people here for a good night out. Sometimes there is live music, too. Service is usually pretty good, except when you have the misfortune of facing one long-haired brunette who snaps, "I see you!" when you try to order a beer. O and a tip they don't announce last call for alcohol at the bar so get your last beers before 1:30 AM. On a sunny Saturday, we rode the light rail from Newport to Zeppelin Hall Biergarten. It was around 12:30pm when we arrived, and there were only a few other people in the spacious outdoor space. I'd love to come here with a group of friends, but that means convincing friends to come out to Jersey City. It isn't that far, but everyone hears "Jersey" and thinks it's a long trek. There are several bars to order from, and each one carries a different selection of beers, so don't rush to grab a beer from the first bar you see. I ordered a large Louisana Purple Haze, which was delicious. My husband ordered some kind of IPA. To order food, you go to the kitchen window. Unfortunately, there's no vegetarian bratwurst here, so we shared some Jalapeno Poppers ($7.95) and Cheese Fries ($5.95). Nothing special about the food, but junk food always goes well with beer, right? Zeppelin Hall has a pig roast on weekends, which is apparently quite popular. It was a bit terrifying for us vegetarians, but we would have been all over this a few years ago. Zeppelin Hall also hosts mug shot contests. Perhaps we should come back for this? read more

I've been to this location a bunch of times because my brother lives in the building across the street. We came here after the fourth of July fireworks and it wasn't too crowded, but it soon would be. We ordered a few beers for the table and appetizers too. We ordered the huge pretzel which was doughy and amazing. Came with a few mustards on the side and a cheese sauce as well. Next item was the pretzels stuffed with cheese. I have a thing for anything stuffed with cheese so this was delicious in my mind. Last item were the pierogis. These were very good to my surprise and glad we ordered them.
