Came here for DineLa with a couple of friends and we definitely enjoyed our experience. My friends got the fries before I arrived which were delicious even when I arrived and they'd been sitting for a bit. We did the Dine LA menu and all got the spicy tuna on crispy rice which was both beautifully presented and delicious! I got the saffron salmon while my friends got the steak frites. The reason for my deduction in stars is that my portion was literally a tiny fraction of theirs for the same pricing and with no major quality difference that we could tell, so it seemed like a bit of an odd pricing structure. Salmon was really good but not necessarily something I would crave or need to come back for. The flourless chocolate cake for dessert was good, but just very dense and rich. read more

Stumbled upon Zinc while on a team building event for work and decided to stop by. Was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, decor, and patio seating which had a nice fireplace. We ended up ordering over and over again as the drinks and appetizers were made with attention and were delicious. The service was excellent. Will come back again! read more

I came to Zinc @ Shade for a MNO - which means Mom's Night Out. Woo Hoo! It's a great place for a Mom's night out. You do want to make a rezzy. We had a group of 12. The menu has a lot to offer, especially for drinks. Lots of drinks on the menu. The night we went I stuck with Aperol Spritzers but the next time I come back I will definitely try something new. For dinner I tried the chopped salad - you definitely don't want to miss this one, it's pretty amazing and it's not your normal chopped salad. Arugula, trail mix, salami, cheese, (some other items) and a creamy dressing. So freaking good. We also had the rib eye steak which was cooked to perfection with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. I didn't try any of the desserts, but they did have dessert also. After dinner we sat at a firepit and had another drink before going home around midnight where the restaurant was still bopping. The cocktail were solid and comparable to other bars nearby. The pizza quality for a high end hotel was a frozen pizza at best. It should be wood fire pizza for that price (I.e. Love and Salt, Pit fire). The chips with the ahi tuna should be rice crips, plantain chips or something other than those crumbly pringles. The music was a great touch. I work locally and Zinc has become my go-to place for a good salad. I recommend the Caesar Salad, which is not a traditional Caesar salad but instead comes with all sorts of delicious toppings, including pepitas, roasted corn, tortilla strips, cotija cheese, and a yummy dressing! Its Five Star Fri again!!! I have only been here to GFU (get effed up), and I have not tried the food until my most recent visit. Zinc is on Valley & Manhattan in the beach volleyball mecca of Manhattan Beach. The reason why I mention the latter is that male & female beach volleyball players frequent Zinc on the weekends. Man, have I ever felt short on those nights (even amongst the female players), and I'm 6'2"! LOL I came here for a business event, and John & Jennifer Nogawa (makes me holla) took excellent care of us. They were both on it to make sure we had plenty of excellent food, and enough to drink. BTW, if you haven't figured it out yet, Jennifer is hawt!!! Hahaha We started out w/ charcuterie, and the meats & cheeses were nicely presented and really fresh. The next item was the grilled cheese sandwiches w/ brie. I have not had GC this way, and I thought it was brilliant. Third item: The sliders were juicy and the bread wasn't dry which happens a lot w/ sliders. Next items were the bruschetta and fries. Both were executed nicely, especially the fries that came out piping hot and w/ three sauces. Fourth item: Flat bread pizza that was also executed very well. It too came out hot (like Jennifer - hehehe). Second to the last item: Tuna & jalapeño on a fried rice thing. This item was very good and had nice heat. However, Zinc saved the best for last with the lamb lollipops! They were boldly seasoned, and came out warm to enhance the flavor: All 5 Stars. The ambiance is very nice and we had the patio in front to ourselves. It was a cool spring evening, and the heat lamps provided the right amount of warmth. In addition, it was easy to move around the spacious layout: Both 5 Stars. I need to start hanging out in Manhattan Beach more now that I know Zinc has food (and Jennifer works here!). Hahaha!!! Great place! I have had brunch, lunch and dinner here on different occasions, so really, this should be three five star reviews. Brunch was fun and delicious. I went with a group of friends. There was a DJ playing a great set. The chopped salad was fresh and huge. I swear it grew even as I ate it. Mimosas were flowing and delicious. For lunch, my boyfriend and I sat outside with our dog. He was given his own water bowl. The poke bowl was fresh and the flavors were a lovely marriage. He had the tacos and loved them. Dinner was nothing short of amazing. We had the cheese & charcuterie. Nice small lounge with excellent service. I had been eyeing this place and came for dineLA. Then I remembered I had been here before, yet sat on the patio, as it was summer. As it was a rainy eve, we enjoyed the indoor lounge this time. The decor is inviting. They have high tables, regular-height tables, lounge sectionals, and a couch or two. All the decor is modern trendy. All servers had smiles on their faces and chipper attitudes. The music was not engaging, but neither was it distracting. And it was for all crowds! Nice atmosphere. Our food and drinks were delicious. This salad! Oh, I wish I had a picture of it for you. It sounded good on the menu. It looked too healthy to be good. IT WAS DELICIOUS! I tried not to eat all of it from my boyfriend. It was cute that we both liked it so much, we commented on its flavors as we gobbled it up. We also ordered the salmon. YUM! We go to a bunch of happy hours down here and find that the wine is mostly the cheap stuff and the food it less that tasty. Mostly bar food. Well, not here. This is the best happy hour around!!! Bar none. Victor was our server and knew the food and wine list very well. We took advantage of the Yelp check in free mini grilled cheese! Wow!!! Proclsciutto and burrata! The Brie and pear also sounded good. Then we had a spicy tuna on crispy rice with little touches that made it unique. Again it was so well presented. The wine list knocked me out. Really good value and well thought out. We didn't meet the chef Ashley, but she knows her stuff. The dinner menu looked great! Needless to say, this spot can get pretty expensive pretty fast. So I enjoy their 4-7pm happy hrs where mini dishes and many drinks are just $6 ea. The mini dishes are truly awesome too. Bumping up a previous review is like giving love (in this case) a third chance. Twice soured but the third time around....bam....it's like cupid hitting me up with an arrow right through my heart. Zinc....ya got me good this time. I came with a group of 13 from work this time. I called a day ahead to make reservations. When we arrived the table was set and ready to go. Unfortunately I couldn't get everything cause I didn't want to seem "weird" to other folks who don't know me as an avid yelper, lol. My order was tomato bisque, pan-seared mahi mahi, pumpkin flan and drip lavazza coffee. The coffee was really good with a distinct aroma which I thought was a good start. Then I had the tomato bisque....so far so good. When the mahi mahi arrived, I was totally blown away after the first bite. The fish paired really well with the mango sauce....it was pure heaven. I managed to finish the entire plate, yahooo! By the time dessert came around I was beyond full, but how can I resist pumpkin flan? The flan came on top of a dark chocolate cake drizzled with caramel sauce. The plan of attack was to only eat the flan on top and leave the chocolate cake alone. If not, I won't be able to get up from my chair. What a way to end the meal is all I can say. The service was phenomenal....our waiter tended to us with our every need. The bill came to a little over $300 for the 13 of us, including tip. The best part was that everyone had a good time and really impressed with the food and service from here. We just got out dineLA, we paid 90 dollars after tip and the picture shows what we got. The curry we got was bland and the steak I asked for medium rare was well done. came for the thansgiving dinner which were $75 per person. First off the menu was their pumpkin bisque which was delicious but came out in a espresso shot cup. Second was their salad which was under dressed. but still okay. Their main course were all alright. The stars are for the food. Service needs a lot of improvement. The only time servers came to our table was when they served food. Not once were we asked how were doing throught our dining experience. I asked for extra bread and more water and it never came. My mom and I are weekly brunch regulars, and are greeted with smiles every single time! Victor greets us with our coffees/waters immediately, and always remembers our orders. I loved the braised short rib burrito-was pretty disappointed that they removed the short rib, and replaced with bacon or their sausage, yet charge the same $19. That's with no avocado, which is $2 extra. I wish they had a turkey sausage or regular breakfast sausage option. We are big fans of the coffee, even the decaf is delicious! This is my birthday weekend so my friends have all been taking me out. Now that I live in this hood I've been marking up all these spots to try. I tried this one today and found it about average to slightly above avg. The atmosphere definitely has the hotel vibe goin on. There is a patio area with a massive wall of succulents that I really enjoyed staring at :p. As for the food, I had their Eggs Benedict, which was good. I thought they did an excellent job with their hollandaise sauce. It was homemade and leaned more toward the lemony flavor. I also has their Espresso Martini... can almost never go wrong with that. Lastly, we ordered the Vanilla Bean Brioche French Toast for the table and there were no regrets.
