A solid, high-end lounge with spendy drinks and the "cool crowd." Good luck finding a place to sit, it is loud, but you can find fresh air, a seat and less noise outside on the deck (which has heaters when the chill is up). Check it out, it is a cool place! read more

Went for my husband's birthday on a Friday night. Great vibe and service and staff was OK, but they closed at 10PM...

We got the prix fixe lunch on a weekday, and it was great. My wife and I both commented on the top quality and reasonable price, and quick service. My burger had wonderfully sauteed mushrooms atop its done-to-perfection patty, with a side of perfect fries. Plus a side salad was included as part of the package. To me, it was the ideal lunch, in a pleasant setting on the hotel patio. I don't live near here, but would come again when in the area. read more

It helps when one of your friends is vested in the organization and I think that bumps this from 3 to 4 stars. The cocktails are good...great location by a quad with lots of food choices but Shade gets a little too "MB" for me... Lots of West Coast "Jersey Shore" behavior with flexing and posing...I like this place early rather than late...get a spot at the bar, hang out with friends and have the excellent bar staff work with you and watch the game... They have a nice lunch special for $15, includes a glass of wine! Served pretty quickly too so perfect for a work lunch. It was a 4 course meal; salad or soup/entree/side and choice of bevereage. Good menu. read more

Had lunch there yesterday. The have a decent lunch menu. I actually like the breakfast menu better. The food is consistent and quite good. The outdoor patio has a nice vibe. Went for Easter Brunch today at Shade Hotel...needless to say NOT worth the $50/person. The only meat was cold Beef Shortribs and Salmon. The french toast was cold..as was the Eggs Benidict. We stayed at the Shade (nice hotel) and our first night didn't feel like going out so we hit this place. Really like the grilled cheese and the tacos. Great food and service. I recommend the Long Board or Beach House Amber. Nice place to sit and eat or just have a cold one with your significant other. Check it sometime! read more

Poor service experience at brunch, my friends pumped up the food and service and they were a bit embarrassed at my experience. Service problems: Arrived when there was one open table on the patio. Started to seat ourselves (no hostess anywhere). Told it was reserved. No sign on table. Told we could wait half an hour or go inside. Went inside. Waited half an hour for our order to be taken. Actually had to flag someone down and ask if we had a server. By then two tables outside had broken and the reserved party had still not shown. Had to ask for coffee refill. Finally the fish tacos arrived....overcooked dry sawdust fish! And nothing else memorable on the plate. Very tiny portion of salsa, too. Friends were happy with their breakfast orders, though. We came here for brunch on Saturday with our pup! They are super dog friendly and brought water for our pup! We had chicken and waffles and it was very good. Definitely ask for the vanilla whipped cream to put on top of your waffles! Nicole was our server and she is amazing. This was our first time at shade and we will be back for sure! Recently held a birthday party with about 10-12 people on their outside patio with reserved fire pits. Their event planner Meggie was extremely thorough and responsive in planning the event. Victor was an excellent server and had the best cocktail suggestions. Their food was actually good too - great chartecurie boards and spicy (not greasy) fries. Went there for dinner to experience the Dine LA menu for dinner. Upon arrival, couldn't find the valet attendant,went into the restaurant, asked, and he was in the back. Not sure why he wasn't in the front as cars were not in the back of the hotel. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Monday night, us and 2 other tables so not sure why the meals took a while to arrive to our table. The staff was apologetic, and even offered to give us something as we waited for our dine LA dinner. I had the spicy tuna to start, and I was impressed. My second course was the rib eye steak with a loaded baked potato. When it arrived I was truly disappointed. The steak was thin, flat and full of fat, not the evidence of a true rib eye. The potato was standard, small and the "loaded" part was skimpy. The dessert, a chocolate cake, was a great size and pretty delicious. Would I go back, probably not. My meal was just ok and considering Manhattan beach is full of restaurants, I look forward to exploring others. read more

I just threw a surprise birthday party there for my girlfriend and our friends had a pretty good time. The venue is awesome for Manhattan Beach. If you read the other posts they are right... the crowd is a lil older but I thought the music was great ( hip hop and lot of '90's hits ) and everyone that worked there was extra helpful. The venue, resonable prices, friendly staff and the dj all made out to make this a pretty cool place... I will def go again oh... the only downside is that they do close early around 11:30... so if you wanna party all night... this isn't the place :T read more

I came here for breakfast on Saturday with low expectations due to the 6 man volleyball tourney but was pleasantly surprised! It's pretty hard to find a bartender that is attentive, funny, caring and just a great person to be around...you actually want to hang out with him..and not just have him pour you a drink like most bartenders in the South Bay. I recently hosted my birthday party at the Zinc lounge and I have to say that I and all my guests were very happy and impressed with the level of service and attention, not to mention the Zinc food. Alissa, the events coordinator, was extremely accommodating and allowed me to schedule the party just a few days before the event. The party was set up on the outside patio which was completely reserved and set up with several tables and a counter for the food so guests can mingle and not just sit down at one long table. We ordered several appetizers which are very reasonably priced and delicious. I especially recommend the charcuterie platter and the pizzas, everyone loved them! I also brought in a cake that the Shade staff stored and brought out right on time and then cut up and served very nicely to the 30 or so guests in attendance. Alissa offered various flexible beverage bar options unlike many other places that I had spoken to which required up-front deposits and crazy minimums. In the end, I settled on a reasonable bar-tab to cover the first round of drinks for the guests, and a couple of bottles of bubbly. Our server Anthony tracked the bar-tab very well and handled the transition to having guest pay for their drinks very smoothly and politely. The bubbly came out at the right time with the cake and was served nicely to everyone. So all in all a great party, staff, service and food. Also want to thank Samantha, the evening supervisor who oversaw the party, and Anthony, our server who like I said was just terrific. It's all in the details. From the service to the chic decor, this place is great for escape. The rooms are beyond belief and modern yet comfortable. It's in the heart of Manhattan beach with plenty to do. They have live music Thursday and Sunday that specializes in a happy hour menu. Their menu changes frequently with the seasons and always hits the mark with flavor and concepts. They have craft cocktails and a decent wine list, as well as some craft beer. The service is always very accommodating and helpful. They have never not gone out of their way to make the experience something to remember. The staff made my birthday so special that it exceeded all my expectations. Thank you to shade+ zinc! I ordered a Latte' and expected a large cup with a layer of foamed milk on top. Instead I was served what looked like a regular cup of coffee in a smaller coffee cup with milk just poured in with the espresso. Oh I was told it was latte' for sure. Zinc, at the Shade Hotel has great service. Good , and unusual bar food. During the week,it's quiet enough to talk inside, and on weekends, they have a DJ, the place is pretty crazy, in a good way. I went here with my family for Christmas dinner since they were visiting. We stopped in earlier that day to make sure they could accommodate a vegan. If not, fine we would try somewhere else, but the manager assured us it would be no problem and they could put together an option. I'm pretty easy as long as it doesn't contain animal products I'll be happy. When we arrived and asked the waitress about a vegan option she seemed very confused about what to do. She suggested maybe a lettuce wrap and I agreed that would be fine. I was expecting some stir fried vegetables with some lettuce, nothing special, but was surprised with what I got. It was literally just a large piece of lettuce with smaller pieces of lettuce chopped up beside it. It also has one big piece of raw onion and a piece of raw tomato on top. It was shitty even by salad standards. Pretty lazy. Not worth $20 by any means so I said it was ok I don't need another dish but I wasn't going to eat or pay for that. The manager ended up coming over and was very combative saying she never said specifically that they could accommodate a vegan. It was very odd to say the least. I've been warned about this place before but definitely won't be back now. read more

I visited The Lounge at Shade two weeks ago with my boyfriend. I ordered him a beer and a water for myself, as I was driving. I had my phones alarm set so that I would be able to get to my meter in time. I waited at the bar to get my tab--I waited about ten minutes without any help. My boyfriend went to the restroom, and when he returned I still hadn't been helped. I finally waved down a bartender and he said "I can't help you right now." That's when I asked my boyfriend to go to the car and move it. I waited another 5 minutes and then I got the bar backs attention, told him all I needed was my tab/card so that I could pay my bill and feed the meter. He got the bartenders attention for me, and he took his sweet time getting me my bill. It was $7.80, for one beer. By the time I finally got my card, I had received a $48 ticket. When I brought the situation to the managers attention, I was told that there was nothing they could do. Had I not waited for the bartender to get me my card, I wouldn't have gotten the ticket. I really wish the staff would have handled the whole situation differently. The bartender treated me like I was a second class citizen and was very rude. The manager tried to help, but she was rude about it too. What was going to be a night out for dinner in Manhattan Beach, turned in to a night in. I won't be going back here again. read more

The food and ambiance is great, but wow, the wait staff is terrible - slow and forgetful!!! You'd think when you're spending over $500 and have over 10 people at a table, they'd be on top of the service, but no. Several people made MULTIPLE requests for water (including myself) and they just kept forgetting something so basic. Same thing happened with food and drink orders - we made several requests for things and they were simply forgotten. I was happy to receive my check and get out of there! I think the worst part of the night was when a server named Robbie (sp?) brought water for one person and not the other when both waters were requested at the same time. Hard not to take it personally, dude! Anyway, they easily lost an extra $200-$300 in profits that night - just want management to know if they even bother to read these reviews. read more
