I'd like to amend my last review. I have eaten here since then, and had a better experience. To be fair, this time we went at 7pm on a Monday, so it was a much different scene & crowd level. In fact, we were one of three groups there. That all but ensured by experience would not be the same as last time. I will say my food wasn't excellent. The broth was warm, not hot, and so my food cooled quickly. It wasn't as flavorful as I remembered either. Not sure if that was a night-crew thing. Maybe I should come back for lunch. I still don't take back the things I said previously - you need to give customers better expectations & service when there's a long line/wait. Especially at lunch hour when you have folks trying to get back to work. If you know it's going to take a long time, let people know or give them as estimate; don't just keep everyone waiting around just for the sake of making more sales. If we're evaluating food/flavor, I'd give this a solid "good", as although I wasn't overjoyed with my food, those I was with loved it & ate every bite. Perfect spot downtown to pop in for a snack while you're out running errands! Potstickers were hot and had a nice crunch from the crispy bottom, but I could have used more ginger or chive in the filling for a little more kick. The shrimp dumplings were juicy, flavorful, and bursting with shrimp! Definitely some of the better I've ever had. Disappointing meal. Saw a stand for this place at the Denver Dragon Boat Festival and really wanted to try their duck gua bao. This dish was fine. The duck was tender but I wish there was more of the sauce to cover the inside of the bun. The cool noodle however was just overall disappointing. The noodles were thick and stuck together, it was not boiling hot but not cold either so I guess it was "cool" even though the noodles should be cold (it was being held with other food in a warming station waiting to be ordered which may explain why it was stuck together and not fresh), and I was expecting there to be sesame sauce and soba tsuyu like real Taiwanese cold noodle but it only had a mix of black vinegar and soy sauce as the sauce. This place is American Asian food and I wouldn't call it anything more than that. Just disappointing. As an aside, I don't mind the 15% surcharge for tip if we actually received service. You grab your food. Your grab your drink. You grab your silverware/chopsticks. And you get to sit at sticky tables. What service are we receiving that would warrant a tip? I truly do hope the surcharge goes to the employees on top of their fair hourly wage and is not just pocketed by the owner. read more

I was so stoked to try this place out. Seeing their ranking on yelp and reading about their original location in boulder I thought: yes!! Finally. Unfortunately: 1. Could not find parking! Not the restaurants fault but the food didn't really make me feel good about my choice to pay $9 for parking garage space. 2. We came when they had a rush. This place is the absolute cutest. If you've read the story on the website, you'll see that the restaurant's concept was inspired by the owner's mother - and it really shows through the ambience and the food options. As a Chinese American myself, everything about the place reminded me of my own parents and the way they grew up. I love that the restaurant's concept even goes beyond the freshly made food. They add a 15% sustainability fee and have a "no tip" culture. I love it because it feels more like you're in China. They also explain that they don't believe in tipping culture because of the bias that comes with it, which speaks so much to my own values. I love that this is not only a place where I can enjoy good food that blends my Americanized hipster self with my parents' culture, but also one that I can truly stand behind and support. read more

We ended up here after we found out that the wait at Uncle was 1 hour and 45 mins. It wasn't the best replacement to say the least. This place is okay. A few very delicious items and a lot of just okay items. Their dumpling sauce was great with strong garlic undertones. I tried the buns which were pretty good... also got the vegetarian noodle bowl and it was pretty plain. The kimchi and chicken bao tasted strange (like liver) and had literally no kimchi. My husband and I stopped in for lunch after visiting Union Station. I had found this place on Yelp and I had my eye on the beef soup. I thought they only served it Sunday thru Tuesday, so we waited til Sunday to eat here. But now they serve it everyday. It just looks amazing in the picture but it was actually really bland and very salty. I love spicy Sichuan peppercorns and I was craving that mouth numbing feeling, but I didn't get it here. They have 5 different sauces in large containers that you can add to your food. The Sichuan peppercorn sauce was super salty and like I said, not typical of the peppercorn taste. Maybe I just didn't have enough of it, but I couldnt even finish my bowl of food because of the saltiness. We also tried the Dan Dan noodles. Now, we had the same dish in Hong Kong and loved it, but it wasn't the same here. It was bland and again, way salty. All in all, it was alright, but I've been drinking water all day and I don't think I'd come back. read more

I am giving this place one star because of the horrible service, not the food. The food was mediocre at best and dumplings tasted a little fresh. However, the staff had no structure and did not know what table ordered what. The worst part was that one of them decided to hand us a plate with two OLD potstickers and told us that he will make 4 "fresh ones" for us soon. Za Jiang Mian: 3/5. The noodles were good, but the sauce was very salty. Portion was smaller than expected. Dan Dan Mian: 5/5. This should be the signature dish. The noodles and sauce balanced so well with the perfect spice level. Would recommend this!!! Crystal Shrimp Dumplings: 1/5. Honestly the crystal shrimp dumplings (har-gow) was NOT it. Read all the positive reviews and decided to try the Roast Duck Wonton Soup. Ate outside on the patio and the hot soup was welcome on this crisp afternoon in October. The good. The soup was hot and the bowl was a large entree portion (that would be a "main" for our European/Australian friends). There were three (3) wontons with filling and a good amount of noodles. The full pieces of duck were soft and tasty. The not so good. The broth was bland; I mean really bland! The pieces of duck skin was not fully rendered and I did not eat them, which is a shame as there is nothing quite like duck skin. Pretty prime spot, but it wasn't full when we stopped for a late lunch. + It's a long narrow place with small tables. There are big windows that they can open as well as outdoor seating. + The decor feels homey - there a lot of pictures of the family that's owns the restaurant. FOOD + I tried the CPR, which is chicken (with bone), rice and potatoes. The chicken was soft and so flavorful, and some of the broth seeped down to the rice making it an overall delicious dish. The only thing I wasn't a fan was the potatoes. + They have a couple vegetarian options, not sure how customizable they are. I'm taking off a star because the girl who took my order (using the cash register, handling money) turned around and starting making dumplings without changing her gloves and continued to take orders in between. I was curious to know what Dim Sum tasted like in Denver, so I searched Yelp and Zoe Ma Ma was the closest to where we were staying. I wasn't expecting authenticity, it is Denver after all. This restaurant has a really odd pricing structure on their menu. For instance---all their dim sum items, except the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, are charged individually. Their dumplings and meatballs are at $1.55 each. Their steamy bun is $3.21 per bun. Their Wonton Soup is priced at $9.14. Why not round off the prices? See? Weird! Zoe Ma Ma is located off Wynkoop Street near Union Station. This small eatery does not have table service. You order at the counter and pay. They give you this device which buzzes when your food is ready. You sit wherever there's open seating and pick up your food at the counter when your device buzzes. NOTE: Food is not ready all at once so be prepared to trek up to the counter multiple times, depending on how much you order. Hubby and I ordered: - Wonton Soup - Za Jiang Mian - Pearl Meatballs (Pork) - Original Potstickers - Crystal Shrimp Dumplings Most of the food we ordered was bland at best. I would avoid the Crystal Shrimp Dumplings, as the wrapper was too doughy and gummy, yuck! On the menu it states that this dish is "low gluten." What the hell is that? I don't know anyone who's eating gluten-free food that would want something in between. You're either eating gluten or you're not. The pork belly bao , steamed pork bao, and Kim chi chicken bao had strange flavors that were not familiar to us and/or were not tasty to us. I couldn't quite put my finger on it. The CPR was ok. A friend and I ate here a week ago, neither of us having eating Taiwanese food before. There is a "secret" menu so thankfully I overheard the person before me ordering the scallion pancake or I wouldn't have known of its existence. We ordered our food and the staff was very nice. The food is brought out to your table so you just take a seat and relax. Well first you go to the sauce station and load up on delicious sauces for your dumplings and various other items and then you take a seat. The scallion pancake was the first to come out and it was my favorite of the night. Crispy and salty with just the right amount of onion, this was a home run! Especially with the sauces drizzled over the top. I also got the potsticker which was good but not mind blowing for me, the vegan dumpling which was not a winner for me and a steamed pork bun which I enjoyed. For my main, I got the duck soup noodle soup which was fantastic! I also added some spice and seasoning to take up the heat level. The duck was very flavorful as was the broth. And who doesn't love slurping noodles up? This is the perfect meal for a cold winter night. I'm so happy that Zoe Ma Ma opened in Denver! I first came here out of some friends' recommendation. I always struggle to decide what to get so it's helpful that the menu is really simple. My first time here, a lot of the items I had wanted to try (pearl meat ball and hot & sour soup) ran out so I ended up getting the Steamy bun (bao) with pork and potstickers.The marinated pork in the bun is really flavorful and authentic, I wish I ordered another bun... What I liked about the potstickers were that they were crispy on the side. My friends really enjoyed the CPR and roast duck wonton noodle soup. One thing to note is that some of the items are only served on certain days (e.g. roast duck wonton noodle soups are only available Fri and Sat). Besides the great food, I love the atmosphere. The restaurant has a decent amount of seating and cute Asian décor (tea sets, newspaper design tables, etc.). The waiters and chef are super friendly too. My favorite person in the store has to be Zoe Ma Ma though. Because this store is fairly new, she's been at this store making sure operations are going well. The first time I was here, she gave me a goji rice cake for free and talked to me about her new restaurant and what cool breakfast menus she plans to have. Because I didn't get to try to pearl meat balls my first time, when I went back to the restaurant later that week, she pulled me over and gave me an extra one on the house. She definitely knows how to treat her customers and makes them feel at home! (Although I think the fact that I speak Mandarin helps) This place is tucked in on Wynkoop right on the side of the Union Station. Although there are plenty vegan and vegetarian options they need to add MORE veggies. More in each dish and more variety. Broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots would take their noodle dish from pretty good to really good. A vegetarian soup in winter might be amazing too! Food was decent but a mandatory 15% "tip" on a to go order which I've never heard of before

I have new information about the 15% "sustainability initiative", which they automatically add to every bill unless you say "opt out" when you order. The sign states that they use it for a variety of things, including sustainability, a fair wage, and a few other things. I have several problems with this: - Nobody wants to say "opt out" b/c it can be embarrassing in front of other people, so you are basically pressured into accepting it. - Sustainability? They do use paper to go containers for some things, but they use PLASTIC containers for leftovers, and plastic for a variety of other things you can see from behind the counter. Not exactly sustainable. - I have now spoken to 2 different employees and they each had the same reaction when I asked whether any of the 15% goes towards their "fair wages": they laughed, and then said "no". Seems like a sham. I still go because their food is solid, but I opt out every time. read more

Enjoyed this restaurant with a coworker around noon on a Thursday. It was decently crowded and we still got our food in about 10 minutes! In inside space is small and a cramped, so it gets crowded easily. They do have a nice outdoor seating area that faces the Union Station courtyard, which is where I chose to sit and felt it was pleasant! I got the Dan Dan Mian noodle bowl, and added some "Cool Noodle Sauce" to it from their bar of soy sauce options. It was a decent sized lunch portion for me, and I really liked the flavors in it! It is sliiiightly spicy, but that is balanced out by how heavy it is on the noodles. There isn't very much broth in this bowl, so you'll have to ask for extra or add sauce to make it soupier. I definitely want to come back here to try their bao buns, they look great! read more
