You ever see a big mean scary Dog? But then when you get closer, you realize that is an oversized soft puppy.. Well that's how I felt about my Lumberjack breakfast sandwich. With a name like that I was expecting a large hearty, meaty sandwich and when I got it... well it was big. I didn't know how I was going to finish it, but @ 1st bite I realized this was soft, mushy and just kinda melted in my mouth; not what I want from a sandwich. The bread and the sausage components were good, the bacon lacked crispness, the ham was thin sliced deli meat(enough said) and full of sodium, the potatoes were flat and soft, and the eggs just faded in the background. On top of that, my side of homefries were 1 smash away from being considered greasy mashed potatoes... Not impressed! And I was waiting to be wowed because this was the 2nd sandwich. The first one had to be sent back because the cook took the liberty of randomly adding ketchup onto my sandwich. Maybe he thought it would it add more depth to the flavor lacking sandwich, the problem is that ketchup makes me sick (literally) Maybe the chef was new, or just having an off day. The manager was extremely apologetic and had a new sandwich prepared but I really wish he would have just given me a refund like i had asked for. Found another great breakfast place in New Haven! I'm a fan of the quick service and ordering at the register. My meal was pretty simple: a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with a side of avocado. It tasted fine but it's also a meal that is hard to screw up. I think they toast their bread a certain way to add some additional flavoring. I couldn't quite figure it out in my one visit but it certainly made the sandwich more unique. I hear the lunch sandwiches are also enjoyable so I'll have to post an updated review after trying one. The bonus is really the backyard patio. It gives Zoi's some charm and character. Without it, Zoi's could appear dated and murky. For instance, I noticed the Snapple cap on my Snapple bottle was stained with food crumps. Totally disgusted me out and I would have made a scene had I not been sitting outdoor on their beautiful patio. read more

I really like this place. Great sandwich and great prices. The seating is a bit tough. The help was great, especially the owner's Dad! I tried the #20 Eggplant sub with delicious pesto sauce. Very good sandwich and I liked how it was done differently than I've had before. My companion had the Mean Dean with no meat. She said it was excellent. A friend and I chose to come to Zoi's for breakfast based on the Yelp reviews. I had such high hopes that this would be added to the list of breakfast go-to places that I love. We went for a late breakfast so it wasn't crowded. We were greeted by one of the employees who showed us the menu on the wall along with the menu on the table. She nicely explained we could put in our order and they'll bring it out to our table. Thanks to Yelp we knew about the outdoor seating in the back. A bit awkward to walk through the long narrow hallway past the kitchen to get there. Fast forward to our orders being brought out to us. I ordered the Sweet Pete and a side of home fries. I love home fries. So I dig in and immediately my friend notices my not so pleased expression. The home fries are soggy and overly greasy. Huge disappointment. But the breakfast sandwich looks good. Something different being on pumpernickel bread. I'm excited for this. I open the top of one half. I see the egg smothered in cheese. Then I notice bacon on just one half of the half. At most two small slices of bacon on this sandwich. While reading the menu the caramelized onions caught my eye. At best I'd call these sautéed onions. They added the flavor but they certainly were not caramelized. I assume it was the owner constantly checking on us. I will say he did hope we had a good experience. Unfortunately it did not live up to my expectations and the breakfast just wasn't up to par for my tastes. As I read some more reviews tonight many reviews as based on their lunch menu. Perhaps I'll give their lunch a try when I'm in the area again but I won't be adding this place to my breakfast list. read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch on our way to NYC. Lots of sandwich options. Chicken cutlet sandwiches were big but a little dry. Italian combo was good. Lots of mayo, which is ok because I like mayo, but it was literally dripping. Roast beef sandwich was good but was really tangy with horseradish. Food came out quick and was reasonably priced. Food: 5/5 Great breakfast sandwiches. Got the double double with bacon and home fries, and both were wonderful. Not too greasy! If I had any complaint, it was that some of those home fries were randomly enormous (like half of a large potato!) The regular drip coffee was actually really, really good, and the reasonable prices will leave you just as happy. Location: 5/5 I love the new location, which is spacious and clean, with plenty of indoor seating. It seems that one section off area will be opened up for "patio" seating in the warmer months, which will be lovely. Service: 3/5 My major concern was re: the service, which is set up such that you order at the counter and your food is delivered to your table, standard fast-casual. There is no table-side service other than delivery of the food, which would be ok except that things like asking for water refills required getting up and navigating the line, as there was only one person working at the counter. This neither-self-serve nor sufficiently-serviced system ends up being inconvenient for both customer and staff when dining with a large group. A self-serve water dispenser would be a small but much-appreciated addition. There's free wi-fi, but I had to ask for the password at which point the gentleman at the counter had to write it down for me (it's a breakfast cafe - shouldn't it be readily available or at least something easy to convey verbally?) Overall: 4/5 I certainly plan to come back, but there are many small things could be improved upon for a more enjoyable and seamless dining experience. read more

Tried the place again today, and ordered the simple hummus sandwich right off the menu board, the only change was I asked them to for no red onion. The food comes. There's red onion. I send it back, but instead of remaking the sandwich, because red onion does leave its taste on anything it touches, then just pull of most of the red onion. Not all of it. Most. I mean, is it that hard? The part of the sandwich I ate was okay. Nothing special. Just okay. My friend's salad seemed fine. But this being my third try, I won't back. It's a cute little sandwich shop on the inside. Fresh coffee, a pretty big menu, and a wide selection of drinks. It's the kind of place where you order at the counter, they bring your food to you, and then you pay at the counter. One thing that surprised me was how large the outdoor patio was. There must have been 12-15 tables out there. Not the best view, it's of a parking garage, but they do the best they can. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and two of my friends, both vegetarian, didn't have any trouble finding something to order. I remember both of them saying that while they eat a ton of sweet potato fries, Zoi's were among some of the best. Only complaint was that the food was a little greasy and soggy. Last time we ate there, the owner noticed our baby sitting on my lap and quickly brought us a high chair and rearranged tables so we could all sit comfortably together and enjoy our meal. This shop was a dream come true for me. I had the big mouth sandwich- though simple, it was one of the best breakfast sandwiches I have had in years. The texas toast was a perfect vehicle for a classic sandwich. My SO had the Thanksgiving on a roll and said it was to die for. The staff was super helpful, everything was clean and kept up on, and there was great music playing too! What a great find this one was. My buddy and I knew it would be good because there were multiple police cars there and usually if the cops eat breakfast at a place, you know it's good, as my friend has always said. The owner Pete quickly answered questions by email prior to the event, and personally called to confirm the details. They fulfilled all my special requests (able to wrap everything individually, including dividing large salads into small portions). Delivery was right on time. Even better, the food was absolutely fantastic. The sandwiches were fresh, huge and so tasty I would not hesitate to order for them again! I downloaded the yelp app just so I could write this review. My food was SO GOOD, the best thing I have had in a long time and it was such a simple dish. It was the Lite Bite on the specials menu, chicken cutlet with sautéed mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes and warm/delicious/dressed chopped salad greens! The whole thing was incredible.
