This place was good, a worthy addition to Canton Street. Went with a group of six, we ordered a few salads and apps, the most notable was the sashimi salmon, very good flavor combo. Three of the group ordered the Amazing Burger and claimed it was as mentioned, pretty amazing. Other entrees included the hanger steak which was cooked perfect and the trout which wasn't oohed and ahhed over but looked good enough. I had the goat cheese stuffed chicken. The chicken was very tender and moist but the goat cheese was a pungent, strong cheese--unlike any other goat cheese I've had before. Didn't ruin the chicken dish but wasn't really what I was expecting and the table agree that the cheese was peculiar. The broth on the plate was delightful with the chicken and vegetables. Ambience is on point. Dim lights with hanging fixtures that look like bubbles. Black and white prints on the wall. While some of the group grumbled on the pricing, I found it on par with the prices on Canton (which doesn't make it right!). I thought you got enough bang for your buck. Service was good. Worth a try! I'd come back if someone was interested in going but not sure it'll make the regular rotation. I love the historic Roswell area, and Opulent is a wonderful addition to the area. I'm a big fan of Little Alley Steak (same owners). It didn't surprise me that Opulent was as good as it was. I had the garden rocket salad & the Amazing Burger....and they were both just that...Amazing! The opulent sparkle was a refreshing bubbly drink that I really enjoyed as well. WHAT A HORROR! Admittedly I was heart broken to learn that INC was closed so the owner could open this monstrosity, but I expected good things. No such goodness has appeared, and instead, INC has been replaced by overpriced rubbish. I'm a food snob and anyone saying this place is remotely good must have a disorder. The best thing on the menu is the $15 burger, a ridiculous sum for such a plate but nonetheless the best item on the menu. My friends and unstated at the menu dumbstruck for nearly 15 minutes before ordering what turned out to be $50 worth of tripe. And the service isn't great, either.... This isn't opulent so much as trashy, I pray they close sooner than later, they are taking up real estate a better establishment could occupy. read more

I only had a drink here, and it was pretty good. The inside of the place is very spacious although the vibe is very bourgeois like Buckhead. For $13, the truly "opulent" Atlanta bars will give you Four Roses Single Barrel instead of the cheap stuff you serve up. I think you guys should properly strain out the smoked applewood chips completely from the drink and make your own pineapple juice in house instead of from a can of Dole. Otherwise I'll just stay home and use my own supply of Four Roses Bourbon. read more

Great location for lunch on Sunday. The crowds start arriving at noon so getting there early helps get preferential seating inside or outside. The food was great - a dozen fresh oysters hit the spot, the Small Plate Mussels was a meal by itself, the Reuben Sandwich with fries was very good. So I'll admit, I was sad to see Inc go; but Opulent did not leave me disappointed! I went to their friends & family night, and have been back twice now, once for lunch, and once for dinner. Some of my faves: the green goddess salad (trust me you'll want the recipe for the dressing) and the quinoa salad (you'll find yourself craving it). The pork belly is delicious - the slaw on top is a perfect compliment. Can't get enough of the creamless mushroom soup, even my dad who doesn't normally eat mushrooms is obsessed. My favorite entree was the flounder... loved every bite! And the burger is out of this world, I challenge you to find a burger that tasty anywhere OTP. I'm confused by some of the bad reviews...I don't know many other restaurants in the Roswell/Alpharetta area serving up this type of yummy, quality food. I'm not sure if people are so used to chain restaurants that a restaurant like this scares them off... but Opulent sure does have my vote! read more

I usually love coming to 1920, especially for the drinks. Jamie is a great bartender who's been there forever. The other bartenders are nice as well. I was extremely disappointed and shocked the other night while dining there with my friends. One of their employees got angry at the bartender (who was delivering food to a patron), threatening to beat him up, etc. It took 3 employees to hold him back and push him away. This was in front of a packed restaurant and bar. This is not a place I expected to see that type of behavior. I want to enjoy my experience and not have to worry about something so unprofessional and awkward. I hope that employee was fired. That type of person has no business working when he treats other employees that way. My friends and I will not be back. read more

My husband and I had dinner here after noticing the restaurant had changed it's name and theme again. I had the grilled Mahi Mahi and he had the Mediterranean Salmon and we also had the calamari appetizer. I'm not very good at judging the freshness of calamari but it was seasoned well and fried well. The fish however was PERFECT! It was obviously fresh with just enough seasoning to enhance the freshness but it wasn't bland. I had double vegetables instead of the potatoes that came with it and that was just right. The serving sizes are just right and the service is pretty quick after you are seated. I'd advise you to make a reservation to avoid a wait because the place is tiny so it doesn't take much to fill it up. Go check it out, you won't be disappointed. read more

We were absolutely blown away from the first moment to the last during our visit to 1920 Tavern. The cocktails were delicious (we had Manhattans and their 1920 Old Fashioned), the charcuterie board was perfect, and both of our entrees (surf and turf and quinoa salad with blackened shrimp) were fantastic! We ended our dinner with coffee and goat cheese pound cake (now craving it again). But it wasn't just the food that had us smiling, the atmosphere was amazing - dark, cozy, and romantic; and the service was ON POINT! We spoke with quite a few members of the staff and the owner as well who each made us feel welcome and left a wonderful impression We cannot wait to go back, and will be bringing our family and friends with us next time! read more

Let's start with the obvious - INC, you were awesome, and you are missed. No doubt about it. There, it's been said. Now it's time to let go and move on..... We now have Opulent gracing the ever-bustling Canton Street dining scene, and last week was my first opportunity to try it. It did not disappoint. My husband and I joined 2 friends for dinner on a Wednesday night, and the first thing I totally dug about it (that's right, I said "dug") was the atmosphere. It's a little more upscale, but I didn't get a snooty vibe from it. The hostess was charming, the bar area sort of dark and cool, with mirrors, dark-colored booths, and pendant lighting. We chose to sit there so we could be in the middle of the action, and sat near the kitchen. Yes, this was a loud choice. However, I did see there is now an enclosed addition in the back (which INC did not have) with black and white photos of Charlie Chaplin and the like on the walls. Again, a funky, cool, upscale mix, and that seating was not crowded/loud at all. I loved it! Our waiter was great and had a trainee with him. She was less knowledgeable, but I give her a break - that's why she's a trainee, afterall. At any rate, they both had a great vibe and got us some drinks. I tried the Opulent Sparkle - a champagne and pomegranate mix garnished with a rosemary sprig. Simple yet delicious! My husband dove into the bourbon drinks, and our friends did the same, then moved to beer. All very good, no complaints here. The food: Upscale, definitely not "street food" as INC had been. Farm to table concept (it's all the rage these days), and everything is extremely fresh. It definitely was! In fact, we were informed they have no walk-in freezer. Nothing is frozen. Everything shipped fresh daily, nothing sits overnight and gets reused the next day. Kind of awesome. Fresh is where it's at. We shared the eggplant fries and pork bellies for appetizers, and I really enjoyed both. I am not always a fan of eggplant, as it can sometimes be really flavorless. This, however, was seasoned nicely and topped with Italian cheeses. I was a fan of this preparation for sure! I had the NY Strip with a leek bread pudding, my husband had flounder, and a friend had trout. Everyone had giant portions, all very fresh and delicious and cooked well. Leek bread pudding is outrageous...it's my new favorite off-the-wall thing. I'm going to make an attempt to order it everywhere from now on and see what happens. So savory and rich - yes, it's that good. We finished with a peanut butter chocolate bar with a bacon maple gelato (of the day - apparently this changes often). DELICIOUS. The gelato had enormous chunks of thick-cut, smokey bacon mixed throughout, and I seriously could've just ordered a soup bowl of it and sat there half the night with spoon in hand. Also, allow me to add that we were dining with friends for my husband's birthday (belated) and the friends had brought a present. The waiter picked up on the gift at the table and offered dessert on the house. Very cool. It was a fun experience, for sure. They weren't always the fastest, I agree - we had a 6:30 reservation, and we were there until 9. However, it was a nice experience and a night out with friends, so we had plenty of time to chat! I like the addition to Roswell. It's not that casual "street food" vibe it used to be, but it's a very hip, cool, black & white decor, sort of upscale place that makes for a nice night out. (May I also just say that EVERY nearby public lot in Roswell goes valet after a certain hour, and $3 is not bad pricing. I will happily give someone $3 to park my car than spend 20 minutes circling crowded streets looking for parking. That's valuable cocktail time!) read more

Sadly our food was just OK and our bar selections were tiny and overpriced. It wasn't terrible but it was my least favorite food and cocktails I have had on Canton Street. Darn. Came here from out of town. Basically through a proverbial dart and found this gem of a spot. I had the short ribs which were awesome. Wife ordered a dish and just didnt care for the taste. The staff was great and swapped it out for something else. She loved the chicken and shrimp alfredo... we also had the eggplant fries which is more like fried eggplant wedges with a tasty sauce. We decided to try Tavern 1920 because it seemed like a low-key place to have dinner being that we were dressed down after installing a couple barn doors. We sat outside so we could enjoy the street traffic. Mirela was our server and she was fantastic! We ordered the Ahi tuna app and split the trout entrée. The portions were generous; the picture of the trout is only half a serving. That was A LOT of food! We finished up with the goat cheese pound cake at Mirela's suggestion and it was excellent! Not in a hurry to return. We made a reservation for Saturday evening, prior to heading over to one of The art galleries down the street. We were a party of six, arriving early for dinner. When we arrive, the restaurant, they seated us right next to the kitchen, slammed like sardines into a booth. In fact, there was a large room in the back with many open tables. Not a good start. Things did not get much better after that. The waitstaff seem to be overburdened, serving tables scattered throughout the restaurant. While our waitress hustled and was attentive, our service was initially slow - not her fault. We ordered our food, a combination of appetizers and entrées. Here is where things fell apart. Issues are below: 1. Our dishes were either scorching or cold. And I mean singe your mouth or icy fridge cold. The meatballs and ravioli were the worse cold offenders, while the oysters and mussels were very hot. It's obvious the kitchen was uncoordinated. 2. One of our party ordered the special - sea bass. It was basically flavorless, served on an uninspired scoop of mashed spuds. And for a whopping $33.00!!! Ouch! Never again. 3. The other flavors were good, not great. This is underscored by how good the catered food from a nearby restaurant happened to be at the neighboring gallery, sampled right after dinner. 4. The dining experience was uncomfortable. The A/C was off when we arrived, on a 90+ degree day, we could feel it when it intermittently turned on. We had the displeasure of being next to the hot and noisy kitchen. And we were 6 adults crammed into a booth. Sweaty and awful. 5. Overpriced. Especially for slightly upscale pub food and their "specials." 6. Stick with the oysters and mussels, which were fairly priced and tasty. 7. I wonder about their health rating. (I cannot find it online, btw.). The men's room was filthy, obviously not having been asker iced in a while. Moreover, we got a good look at the kitchen from out cramped booth - it had food all over the floor, food on the counters, and looked unkempt. Yuk. We guess this is a good local bar. We guess people like it for drinks, oysters, and a few appetizers. Maybe their food is served hot. We had a different experience, though. No hurry to return... If ever. read more

We visited 1920 Tavern last night for date night. The interior of the restaurant has a great feel to it and the service was absolutely wonderful. We were seated right in front of the kitchen, but we didn't mind. We just got to hear a lot of the traffic on a Friday night. I found it kinda interesting! Unfortunately our food did not live up to the hype even though everything on their menu sounds AMAZING. Hats off to whoever wrote it, because it makes you want to try it all. To drink, we started with the cucumber (vodka) and watermelon drinks. The size of the drink was awesome for the price, but the drinks were STRONG. Too strong to drink. I rarely ever return a drink, but neither of us could enjoy this one. I offered to pay for them and the server advised we wouldn't have to which was nice. I then ordered their skinny margarita which was amazing but when I ordered another one, it tasted nothing like the first one. Again, it was very, very strong. There were two bartenders behind the bar, so that could explain it. We started with a few meat and cheese selections and while the quality of meat and cheese was good, the portion was disappointing. I'm not a big eater (I'm more of a big taster) but the prosciutto was only enough of a serving for one and the coppa was barely more than that. We order meat and cheese every opportunity we can and this offering was unfortunately the worst in terms of value. The bread on the board was stale but still soft, if that makes sense? We also ordered the meatballs off the small plate offerings and I could tell just by cutting one in half that the meat was going to be very tough and dry and it was. They were simply overcooked and the sauce/cheese was cold. On to dinner! I ordered the fried green tomatoes from the small plates offerings and a side of Brussels sprouts. The fried green tomatoes were great! They were stuffed with goat cheese, but not overstuffed and not over cooked. The Brussels sprouts has great flavor but definitely should have been cut in half because they were huge and leaving them whole did them a disservice. It didn't allow for the beautiful caramelization to adhere to as much surface area of the vegetable as a whole. The insides were tough to chew. My boyfriend had the half chicken with Brussels sprouts and mac and cheese. The chicken was great, same issues with the Brussels sprouts and the mac and cheese was very cold, but had great texture and flavor. For dessert we had the multilayered cheesecake which was surprisingly mellow in flavor. When you have that many flavors in a dessert, it's easy for one of overpower another. This was a very nice note to end on. read more

Lively bar scene, but the place is very small (long and narrow) and extremely loud even on a Tuesday night. I would not rush back, more so because of the crowded, congested feel and poor acoustics rather than because of the food (only half of the back room was full, but you would've thought that with the noise level in the room, there were 100 people in there - the bar area in front was even worse). Disappointing night tonight. A usual favorite spot. Chargrilled oysters were good but the short rib mediocre and the grouper subpar. The short rib was fatty but the risotto delicious. The grouper was mealy - seemed like pre-frozen and then over cooked with an unappealing beurre blanc. Gross. Well, wanted to like this place. Music was awesome and that's where it ended. Server spent more time with friends then really caring about us. Oyster Rockefeller should have been called spinach in a half shell. Couldn't taste the bacon. Shrimp and Grits no need to get it again. At least not here. My wife had the filet mignon but that too was not so good either. Meat was not well seasoned. With so many choices I'd suggest try some place else. Sorry 1920. Did I say the music was awesome? It was. Update. Owner asked how things were and we were honest. She wanted to make things right. She asked that she refund our dinner. We said no. She gave us her card and a gift cert to comeback. I was very much looking forward to an amazing Holiday night out at 1920. It is normally a great experience, however tonight was absolute trash. Not the food and not the service.. but the actions of what I am assuming is the management team. We were sitting on the patio and had to overhear, again I am assuming the manager ask a guest to leave. This person in my opinion was doing absolutely nothing wrong. I am still even confused to as why this gentleman was even asked to leave. It left such a bad impression and I am completely disgusted by this behavior. With everything that everyone has been going through, especially these last 20 months you would think an establishment would be happy that they have patrons coming in. Kindness goes a long way and the lack of that tonight at 1920 speaks volumes and solidifies that I will not longer be visiting this location. Do better and be kind! read more

Pretty cool place! The bar area is in the front, but there is a lot more seating in the back. If you are looking for a more lively scene, then I recommend that you sit near the bar. I sat in the back, where it was a little quieter. They also have some patio seating with great views of downtown Roswell. My server was so nice and mentioned that she had worked there for years, so she knew a lot about the food and drink menus. Her service throughout the night was beyond great! Their menu is pretty large and there were a lot of things I wanted to try, but this visit I went with the Twin Petite Filet Mignon. It was okay, but not the best filet mignon I have had. It was cooked the way I requested, but the pieces of meat were a lot thinner than I expected. The sides that accompanied it were mashed potatoes and green beans and those tasted fantastic. For my starter, I tried the pimento cheese dip with pita bread. This is a MUST TRY from their menu. OMG, it was so yummy and fresh. I can't wait to visit again and try some of their other entrees, but I will definitely order the pimento cheese dip again. read more
