My friend and I came here for breakfast. Overall - solid, dependable food, very busy, average price. Would return if I'm in the area again. There was a bit of a wait for a late breakfast on a June weekday. For two people the wait was about 15 minutes, which was fine. However, once we got seated, the service was still slow and it took just as long for us to get helped. I got the summer scramble which was good. The home fries were okay. I also got the large mocha, which was Good until the bottom and then it was too chocolatey for my taste. The biscuit and strawberry butter that came with my meal were my favorite part of the meal - delicious. I also got a blueberry pancake because it's Maine - known for blueberries. It was very good. My friend got the Mediterranean breakfast and liked it. We were seated on the porch. The spot we were in wasn't too loud and was really enjoyable. Loved the vibe of this place! Feels very homey. Everything is organic and fresh. I got their blueberry pancakes - STUFFED with blueberries. And it had a nice crisp griddle. Would recommend. I also got their spicy sausage - very flavorful! It was a pretty soft sausage texture and was missing that crisp casing, but it was still delicious. We also got their cats paws which tasted like a cinnamon roll in muffin form. Would recommend if you like cinnamon pecan. The name was enough for me to add this to my list of must try breakfast spots to try in Bar Harbor. It's an easy walk from the main lodging and shopping area of Bar Harbor. On a weekday morning there was a short wait which seemed to be typical for the area so not a big deal. Inside we were seated in the first room. The restaurant is an old house so the dining area isn't huge with each room having a few tables. Fortunately, the tables weren't too cramped together. I started with a Maple Latte that was good and not overwhelming on the maple flavor. For breakfast I had the Lobster Omelet which was good and loaded with lobster. The potatoes on the side were okay and the biscuit was very good. The biscuit tasted fresh and homemade. My husband had Wild Maine Blueberry Pancakes. They were good, but great. The service was not the best. Everything was slow, slow to have our server greet us after being seated, very slow getting my coffee, and slow getting the food out. Overall, service was just poor the morning we dined here. The staff didn't seem very organized or speedy. If I frequented this cute town I would probably return here, but I wouldn't put it at the top of my list. There are other places in town with good food, but better service. Very good food, very slow service. We ate at 2Cats while visiting Bar Harbor. We waited for about 15 minutes to receive water and coffee. Food took about 25 minutes to come out. We ordered the Farmers Breakfast and Blueberry Pancakes. Everything was amazing, especially the homemade biscuits. Server seemed very stressed and didn't come check on us one time. One of my favorite restaurants during my Maine visit. This is one of the most unique dining experiences I've had. Their layout seemed to be a repurposed home which allowed for a lot of porch seating. Their menu was excellent and I really enjoyed the food. Since it was Maine I had to test out their blueberry pancakes and was not disappointed. My brother also really liked their hash browns. My sister and I showed up on a busy Sunday morning for brunch. It was obvious staff was busy but doing their best to accommodate everyone. I had the #4 omelette with smoked trout and dill, minus the horseradish sauce. It came with a biscuit and strawberry butter and skillet potatoes. In spite of not being a huge omelette person, it was all incredible. As a baker myself, the biscuit was probably the best I've ever had at a restaurant. I would totally go back in a heartbeat just for another biscuit. My sister loved her blueberry pancakes, too. We snagged some maple syrup from a nearby table since staff was busy and eventually asked for tp for the bathroom. Service was a little slow, but as their menu mentions, it's because they make everything from scratch. The coffee was a dark roast. Someone else had commented that it was the best cup of coffee in town, and although I have yet to try them all, I would prefer a lighter roast. Overall, we left raving. It gets only two stars now because 1) the coffee is really poor, to the extent that I have trouble remembering when I had such a weak tasteless brew, 2) they do not take reservations so you always have to wait for a table 3) the service is poor. Worst restaurant experience I've ever had. The restaurant was not very busy, it was a weekday morning. The waitress was disorganized and all over the place. She was walking away before I could even ask her anything. Ordered a pot of tea, was given a cup of hot water and told to wait for several minutes until I was brought a tea bag. Ordered the lobster Benedict as my entree, waited 40minutes for cold food. While we were sitting there, another waitress took the condiments off of our table without making eye contact. 2 Cats is 2 cool of a restaurant to miss out on while visiting Bar Harbor. We visited during the 4th of July and had front row patio seats for the parade. Due to high volume during this day, service was slow (which was perfect so we could watch the parade without culinary distractions) but our waitress initially and quickly brought us two biscuits and strawberry butter (you'll hate yourself if you don't order those) and kept our coffee (delicious) and water glasses full throughout the parade. Once the parade ended, service picked up. Mark ordered the lobster benedict which he describes as, "one of the best lobster benedicts I've ever had." I ordered the pancakes which were fantastic, but note they are huge so be sure you have fasted for days to prepare your stomach for the carb overload. I could have just had one and been perfectly content, but the flavor was so spot on and the cakes were so fluffy I wound up eating two and feeling extremely bloated for hours. Rumor has it there are two cats that live at the restaurant (though a little birdy told me they mostly hang out at the pizza place) which gives the restaurant its name. I would have loved to have seen them, but I'm sure they were snoozing in a pizza dish somewhere. The restaurant was super cozy as it is more like a B&B with a beautiful and colorful front porch for breakfast. I wish I had purchased one of their tydye t-shirts because they're logo is awesome, but alas, that will be for another trip. Definitely make this a priority on your next trip! I had been to Bar Harbor before, in my pre-Yelp days (sad, dark times) and in those days I would have never had stumbled across 2 Cats. Thank goodness for Yelp, (thanks Jando!) because I bookmarked this place before I even arrived on my most recent trip. It was a 15 minute walk for us in the heat, because our tour bus (don't judge me, I didn't want to drive from NY) dropped us off at Agamont Park, but it was well worth the walk. The inn/restaurant is located in a very residential area, right across the street from a bicycle rental shop. It looked very quirky and inviting, and we were greeted by smiling hostesses who seated us immediately. The restaurant is in the ground floor of the inn- and felt very homey. I immediately decided that we would stay at the inn the next time we were in town. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and upon hearing my concern about the latte I was about to order, she asked if I wanted them to alter it to cater to my needs. They offered decaf, soy milk, almond milk, etc. She was also very helpful with tips on where to visit while we were there and what other restaurants we should try. I was torn between the lobster benedict and the lobster omelette, but I had to take Jando's advice and go with the lobster benedicts- he is my CM after all! The lobster benedict was superb- the hollandaise was perfect and the biscuit was so flakey. The spicy home fried were spiced and cooked perfectly!. I think between the ambiance, staff and food, this is my favorite spot in Bar Harbor. The price had increased slightly since Jando's visit in '11, but it was well worth it and like him, I'd come back again in a heartbeat. We arrived at 2 cats just before closing. We really wanted lunch, but realized when we looked at the menu that it was a breakfast only restaurant. That error was all ours. The waitress greeted us and offered coffee and water. She too our orders but did not rush us, even though we were probably her last table. 2 of us got blueberry pancakes, one the banana walnut. Ugh this place is so good! They usually have a massive amount of people waiting here, but my party of 6 managed to get a table in like 5 minutes. We sat outside on the porch at a big round table and ordered quickly because we were very hungry. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. Here's the reason for only four stars: it took SO LONG to get us our food. We all ordered very basic dishes--bagels, French toast, water, coffee. So it was kind of confusing why it took so long to toast a bagel, but eventually we got our food and the wait was mostly made up for by how delissshhhh the food was. I got the plain old French toast with a side of fruit and the amount of fruit !!!! I always get fruit with my brunch meals, and time after time it's a skimpy portion of like 3 strawberries (see previous reviews for proof). So the healthy portion from 2 Cats was enough to get me really excited. Plus, I was actually satisfied after eating all the yummy fruit and fluffy toast. They had some fun alcoholic drinks that I would definitely try if I came back with friends. I hope to come back to Bar Harbor and will definitely try more things the next time around! read more
