Today was no exception except we got saki and it was so diluted with water that you could barely taste the actual saki. I felt like I was drinking hot water. We stuck to a few traditional rolls, like Caterpillar and Rainbow. Then tried Tha Joint and a few of their highly recommended. Three stars for food but they did have excellent service which bumped them to four stars. Still prefer Hiroba for AYCE but 2 Tha Joint would probably be in a second place tie. Unfortunately there's several places in the second place categories including Sushi Rose, Sushi Pier 2, and KitzMo. At least that is much better than the 30 or so other sushi restaurants in the Reno area that don't come up to that level. Not the best variety and choice of appetizers, but Pretty good sushi. Unfortunately the service ruined it, which I was bummed about because I was really excited to try this place. This was my first time so maybe they were just busy, but the waiter came up to our table asking if we were ready for dessert, when we still hadn't received about 1/3 of all the sushi we ordered (all you can eat). Then he looked confused and couldn't even tell us which sushi hadn't come out yet. We remembered some of what we ordered and asked for those, but the continuity of how easy all you can eat should be, (especially since we write on the sheet what we want) wasn't there. we were 5 of us, lunch time, we went after lunch hours so we get our food fast. we made an order 15 rolls, the restaurant was not busy. I saw 5 guy's helping. after 36 minutes our waitress brought us 9 rolls, we eat, then we waited for ever to get the 3 rolls, the none the roll came out, we let the Manger know that we like to expedite, did not work, they have 2 helper on counter and they are chatting, I was so upset, and I let the waitress know that they have bad service. and this is my last visit for all of us. read more

Not sure how to word this, but the service was *Too Good*. The staff checked on us every 3-4 minutes. Now, normally I would find this overbearing, but a sushi restaurant it was the perfect amount of service! The food is solid. Unique rolls where everyone can find something they like. Plus they were extremely attentive to my shellfish allergy. PRO TIP: Make sure to get a side of "Angry Bird Sauce". It is a truly delightful home make hot sauce (that isn't too hot). read more

Very pleased..This place has some really unique sushi. I love when a sushi place has an imaginative menu. I was very happy with the long roll with green apple and puree kiwi, I forget the name. The restaurant is bright and well lite, its clean and has a real modern streamline feel to it. They take pride in the ambiance. The staff and chefs were very professional, attentive, seem to truly care about the customers experience and the sushi was delicious. I loved the cloth napkins and the high quality menus design. The only thing i didn't care for was the setup tray, the dish seems to shallow for my liking, but that isn't really a genuine complaint. The reason I only give it a 4 star because I already have a Sushi place that I LOVE & I go there sometimes 3-4 times a week. Today a friend took me here for lunch, so yes I sort of cheated, wink wink, but it was really good ;) Don't get me wrong, I'm not leaving my favorite little fishing "Pier". another reviewer said "just another mediocre experience" - ours was subpar - food and service. there were 3 of us and when we we came in the (server?) took us to the front counter - i requested the counter and not table. i asked if we could sit at the other counter where another couple was seated - and was told there was no chef over there (looked like there was one to me, serving the other couple!) so could not seat us over there. drink orders were taken. the first item ordered were the muscles - used to be delicious but these were dry, over cooked. as we progressed thru our meal i couldn't help but notice the 3 women (servers?) gathered around the soda machine, refilling their drinks several times - and that's where they stayed most of the time during our hour and a half visit. the one woman kept running her bare hands thru her hair, adjusting/poking at the bun on top. the young man who seated us also adjusted his hat/hair with bare hands. one or more of them occasionally took bites of food. the chef to my left - my husband's and daughter's chef - was attentive, tho didn't say much. "my" chef barely made eye contact with me, said nothing, and at one point disappeared altogether - my husband placed my order with his chef who was already working on 2-3 other orders. my biggest complaint - the 3 women who just milled about the soda machine, refilling their drinks - and *not one of them ever came over to ask how we were doing, if we needed anything* - i finally had to flag down another server walking by to get us more napkins and water. after we paid the bill and got up to leave, going out the door, no one acknowledged us, said thank you, bye, f you - nothing... and the food was dismal. i went back in on the pretext of having left my glasses behind and asked one of the servers who came up to me if there was a manager on site - she said something like yes but he was out back somewhere. i told her my complaints and suggested she might want to (or not) tell him to check yelp reviews later. read more

We pulled u p and the parking lot was jam packed which if you go to sushi places you are expecting the long waits between sushi rolls etc. We were surprised to be seated immediately and our waitress was prompt on taking drink orders. After we ordered our rolls the sushi came out much quicker than expected. The sushi was delicious and fresh. If you visit, try the highway roll it was heaven. The atmosphere is great and relaxed. Our waitress was awesome and kind. It's a great place to hang out and enjoy high quality fish. This place exceeded my expectations. The names of the rolls are unique, some are funny. The fish was very fresh and delicious. The atmosphere is nice, they have what sounded like top 40 hits playing. My wife enjoyed the highway roll, and I was loving the nigiri. Salmon and yellowtail were the favorites. The service was amazing, our waitress got our drinks out asap, and we were expecting a long wait for our 4 rolls and 4 orders of nigiri. Within a few minutes of the waitress taking our order we had half of our order and they were pretty packed when we got there. We have been loyal customers of Tha Joint for years. When 2 Tha Joint opened it gave us more opportunity to go enjoy their delicious sushi. This location is near downtown. It's somewhat easy to get as it is on Plumb Lane. It's spacious and has a private room for big parties. They offer great deals...especially the free sake with All You Can Eat. They have one menu... no lunch and dinner menus. You pay one price for All You Can Eat. Service can be hit or miss but he sushi is always spot on. The rolls are not huge... which is nice for easy one bite pieces. My all time favorite roll is Tha Twister followed closely by Tha Wingman. An absolute must order are the mussels. I have tried others sushi restaurants but always find my way back to Tha Joint because they offer the best. read more

What can I say other than this place always delivers. Tae and company have the best customer service in the sushi biz! The menu is expansive and different not showing your typical rolls i.e. Californian and Godzilla. Instead choosing to make their own and have you try something completely different from what you would normally get when going to a sushi restaurant. Tonight I ate more mussels than I should have the broth in which they're steamed is amazing and may other appetizers as that normally happens with all you can eat but the rolls we had were the frisco tha joint the whole 9 yards. Left with food at the back of my throat lol. Finishing it up with a strawberry mochi ball which was also excellent. All in all another great night her at 2 tha joint. THE WORST SERVICE EVER. Literally wish I could give this place 0 stars, we were put in the back corner and forgot about. Put in two orders of all you can eat sushi and only got half of the second one - we only received appetizers and they took over 40 min to get there. Everyone around us got their sushi immediately. Our waitress did not care about us whatsoever. Didn't fill our waters once. Asked for our sushi to go because we spent $26 on it and received NOTHING and they took forever getting us our sushi to go. Two things make AYCE successful. ..great food and great service. 2 Tha Joint is consistently excellent all around. It's the one place I'm not afraid to sit at a table instead of the bar because the wait staff is always attentive. Went in today early to beat the post church rush and had some if the best fish ever. Ordered at least 6 different types of nigiri, and 4 different rolls. Tha rainbow roll is a great fresh option, and Tha saucy tuna is soo good. On top of great fish the mussels here are perfect and the edamame is always good. I didn't particularly like the quail egg shooters because they were too salty. Somehow I always make room for beer at sushi and the prices here are great! $4.50 for a Deschutes fresh squeezed. ..not $7-$9 like other places. We spent a good hour and a half today not because of slow service, but because of great food and company. This place will be at the top of my list next time I want sushi. read more

We were craving sushi and my son picked this on our overnight in Reno on way back to Bay Area - service was friendly and efficient, but this is also an all-you-can-eat Sushi Bar, albeit they make your order as you order it and it's not premade laid out - pretty good selection, but for me, too many rolls with cream cheese in them - appetizers and nigiri and rolls included in this option, or you can order ala carte some other dishes like teriyaki chicken or sashimi plate. Quality of fish is ok, but not the best - good option if you were really hungry! Creativity of the rolls were pretty good, except for the higher than normal number of cream cheese rolls. read more

With Covid-19 happening I am hesitant when going out to eat, but I was craving sushi really bad. I called ahead and was told about their special when ordering one roll they gave you a free appetizer Wow! They are currently not allowing but I'm totally fine with that. One of our guys was on a new diet and only eating protein. He left the rice but ate the salmon. She said she was not going to service anymore because we can't eat it like that.
