I went here solo around 9:30AM on a Sunday. The place was bustling but not yet packed so I was seated right away. The hostess and my server were both very nice, smiling and friendly. For my meal I ordered the 24 Hash which was potatoes, onion, jalapenos, cheddar, bacon and sausage over runny eggs. You get a choice of bread that comes with it, I went with the sourdough. The meal was seasoned and cooked well and presentedvery pretty. It comes in 2 sizes, large for $17 or small for $13. I opted to go with the smal portion l and it was plenty of food for one person. I think the best move is probally to split large meals with 2 people when possible. Since I was dinning solo yesterday that wasn't an option for me this time. I see a lot of talk nd reviews about the chicken and waffles on the menu and the person next to me ordered that and it looked like a good choice. I will have to come back with Wifey and try that. I didn't order it this time because I was going to get Louisiana Style hot chicken later and didn't want to have too much fried chicken in one day. We live about 3 hours away but we like to pop into Austin for food adventures whenever we have something to do in the area. Yesterday it was the Austin Hot Sauce Festival for me, solo adventure as it was not Wifey's thing. I'm sure we will be back together sooner or later and have to explore more of the menu including some chicken and waffles. Pretty busy on the weekends so unless you come early there's likely going to be a wait. The food here is worth the hype and always tastes fresh. Their drinks are also amazing and can even be sold out some mornings! The interior is modern? Industrial? Idk but I like it! The staff can be pretty busy but mostly nice. I've only had their breakfast menus so I can't say much about lunch or dinner. However, I would love to try their lunch and dinner. My favorites on their menu is the french toast, chicken/waffles, and the sweet potato hash. The butter that comes with their waffles is life changing. Let me preface this by saying I've worked in the food industry, front and back of the house, for 15 years. So in general, I side with kitchen and wait staff because I know what it's like and how annoying people can be. THAT being said, the service we received this morning was lazy at best and totally unacceptable. We came in at 7am and were one of 3 tables in there. And I absolutely was not going to leave a bad review about the service, until the attitudes we got. So first and foremost the waiter wasn't unkind but for only 3 people in the place, we almost never saw him. He never came back to ask us how our food was and just disappeared after a while. While chewing a bite of his hash my husband found a literal pebble. An actual ROCK in his food. Since our waiter disappeared, I had to go to the bar to ask if a manager was on duty, very politely I might add but was met with an attitude anyways. I let the manager know, who seemed to question it and asked to keep it in a bowl. He DID ask if my husband was ok and said he wanted to be sure he didn't hurt himself. I asked that we please not pay for his breakfast since he obviously couldn't finish it. The manager DID comp the entire bill which I thanked him for and truly appreciated. Again the pouty attitude that followed by him and the waiter, was not. I didn't mention the sub-par service we received from our waiter and was actually going to leave a cash tip for our server because it's a thankless, low-paying job. But then when we wished him a good day and he flat out ignored us and ignored my husband at the breakfast table (when you really SHOULD have apologized, professionally speaking) I skipped the tip and decided to share the service and response to something that certainly wasn't our fault. My Mom has refused to come back here for a few years for similar complaints of poor service and inconsistent food quality and now I'll join her in that. read more

Great spot for any time breakfast. 24 diner has been a staple stop in Austin for quite a few years and there's a reason why. Once we entered we were greeted nicely by the hostess and sat almost immediately (they do not accepts reservations & it was slower than usual). My friends and I had walked from West sixth to 24 diner around 2 AM on a Saturday night. We knew there was going to be a wait once the bars let out, especially because the restaurant is not that big. We were told it was going to take about 15 minutes for a table, but I was skeptical because of how many people had arrived at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised that it did only take about 15 to 20 minutes before we were seated at one of their outside tables. It was cold outside, but the outside area was insulated. I appreciated their hustle getting everyone seated. We did have to wait longer than average for our waitress to appear, but we ordered food when she arrived and she put the order in quickly, brought the food out quickly, and we were able to pay for our meal with her hand held device. My friend and I ordered a waffle plate and a French toast plate and they weren't anything out of the ordinary, but both were good. The highlight of my waffles was the flavored butter on top. We did ask for syrup and nothing was ever brought out to us, but I decided I didn't need it because of the butter. I can only Imagine how high the rent is for that location, but the prices of the food definitely indicated that they need money. $18 for a French toast plate is pretty high. read more

Really enjoyed my Cobb salad here yesterday for a late lunch/early dinner. It had a generous amount of dressing and had avocado, egg and tomato in it. This is a simple diner, with what you would expect a diner to have but, the food is good. I really enjoy the fried egg sandwich and sweet potato hash from here too. They have a wide variety of breakfast/dinner items. I would expect a light wait of about 20 minutes about 5/10 times you go. Service is decent but, not perfect. Yesterday my boyfriend and I sat at the bar and had to grab our own ketchup/sauce a few times cause it was easier than trying to get someone's attention. Not that big of a deal though. It's on the west side of 6th, so it was a little farther than we had travelled before, but they had chicken and waffles so we had to stop by. The interior is larger than it looks because there's a room further back inside. They also have outdoor seating. They have a very traditional southern menu, which was what we were looking for. My friends got the chicken and waffles and they said it was really good. I like how they offer different sizes for a lot of their dishes (small and large). They get quite busy during brunch hours, so be prepared to wait a little. Their chicken and waffles are apparently a must-have, so I got them. The small is two pieces of chicken and half a waffle for $12.95, and the large was four pieces of chicken and a whole waffle. I split a large with a friend and it was the perfect amount of food to start our days off and still leave a little room for an ice cream on the way. The waffles are soft and fluffy; not much crisp and crunch like a Belgian waffle might, but it worked very well with the syrup. The waffle syrup had a magical smokey and molasses note to it that was quite distinct. The fried chicken was boneless, pounded flat, and deep fried in a flour batter. The fry was fine, it wasn't particularly seasoned or flavorful but it worked well with the sweet syrup and fluffy waffles. Low expectations coming in for brunch but I am very happy to say they blew me away! Atmosphere: 24 hour diner (so the bathroom isn't the best -- also ladies, there's only one stall so keep that in mind) where there's usually a wait during brunch time. She was quick to answer questions and offer recommendations which I really appreciated. Price: 3.5/5 a bit pricey but for brunch I guess this is pretty normal. Their entrees range from $12-$17 depending on what you get. Their coffee prices are very reasonable though (what you would find at a cheaper coffee shop). Food: 4/5 their menu is pretty big. I had the pork belly BLT sandwich with max & cheese, my boyfriend had the pork chop entree with green beans, and my other friends had the chicken & waffle, egg sandwich with potatoes, and the chicken biscuit sandwich with a side of fruit + a roasted sugar and banana milkshake. Pork belly BLT: thick cut pork belly cooked to a crisp with tomatoes and pesto on sourdough bread. The pork belly was amazing. Crispy on the outside and so juicy on the inside. A part of me was secretly worried that this would be thin slices just like how bacon is but I'm so glad I was wrong. And as a lover of pesto, I just knew I had to get it. I also got the Mac and cheese on the side, which was amazing. I don't know how many cheeses were in there but it was creamy and cheesy. Highly recommend. Pork chop: The pork chop is a pretty good serving size. It comes on the bone seared beautifully. Only con is that I wish it was seasoned/salted a tad bit more. But overall, it was a great dish. It came with roasted green beans, potatoes, and this delicious chimichurri sauce. I also want to take some time to praise that roasted brown sugar and banana milkshake. My husband and I stumbled on this cozy, eclectic place a few months ago while in town for a concert and went back this past weekend before attending another concert. The hostess seated us quickly and the service was excellent. The laid back atmosphere made it a great experience. Our server made a few recommendations and was very attentive. Served a severely undercooked steak..... I was looking forward to having dinner here last night. I went right around 10pm last night with a cousin. We were greeted by the manager and sat at our table. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders. I ordered a beer on draft, my cousin ordered coffee. I watched the bartender make drinks for the other tables that were sat down after us. I waited at least 20 minutes for my beer. . My cousin had lukewarm coffee which was brought out at a reasonable time. I ordered the steak and eggs medium rare. As I cut into the steak it was more on the rare side but had a few bites (like 2 or 3. After a few more cuts I noticed the complete rest of the steak was raw in the middle. They served the steak with compound butter, but the few bites I had did was not well seasoned at all . My favorite part of night was watching the cook through the service window give himself a Cheers with two dos equis bottles. Our server was able to get the steak comped thankfully. Well, we read great reviews (mostly) and decided to come by. We were super excited because of the patio area that offers a space for pet!!!! (Good pics looked yummy as well!) We came, was greeted warmly and quickly sat at a space of our choosing, outside. My husband left to use the restroom and came back, letting me know we'd be leaving. Got their veggie hash which had breakfast potatoes mixed with broccoli, mushrooms, Swiss cheese, eggs, spinach, and avocado. Portions were large enough for leftovers. Food came out quickly and service was good. They had an oat milk for non dairy milk and the classic refill diner coffee. Never have I been to a restaurant so deserving of a 5 star review. Not only was the food phenomenal, but the customer service here is top notch thanks to the new manager Mike. I've come here twice before a long time ago and always enjoyed their food, particularly their burgers and their grilled cheese. Something about the bread/buns that they use here make all of their sandwiches and burgers super delicious. Tonight, I came here with my friend and ordered a grilled cheese with the bacon add-on. When I received my food, I noticed that they had forgotten the bacon and notified my waiter (who was excellent btw, I don't remember her name but she had pink hair). It honestly wasn't a big deal, and my health was probably better off without it but Mike took the whole meal off the bill and brought out a new sandwich to go as well as two free milkshakes. The fact that the staff here went above and beyond to correct such a minor problem speaks volumes about how much they care for their customers. What happened to 24 Diner? The only thing that changed on the menu over the last 10 years is the price. It used to be the kind of place I would take out of towners, no more. Breakfast for 2 without any alcohol was $60. Waffle on the small chickens waffle plate was served with searing hot dry fried chicken on a half waffle that was soft and cold. I made the mistake of spreading the flavored butter sitting on my waffle and adding syrup which made the whole plate cloyingly sweet. All around bad. Wife had the breakfast platter - eggs, potatoes, fruit and toast. Potatoes were cold, soggy and greasy. Cappuccino was great, drip coffee was awful. It's no longer open 24 hours which make the lack of cleanliness even more inexplicable. The place needs a deep clean, seriously. The music was blaring and really bad.
