She is also realistic and honest with whether or not she can fit me into her schedule, so that I don't have to wait to get my haircut. I got a last minute pedicure because my regular place was fully booked and I had an event. Overall service was ok, staff was friendly-ish just very quiet, nothing special. But since I was their last appointment of the day, they seemed rushed the last few mins doing the polish, so the lady didn't allow the layers to dry, TWO hours later when I tried to put my shoes on, the polish got messed up! read more

The girls that work here are just so sweet, I went in for a hair cut on impulse, I didn't know what i really wanted, and to be honest, the last hair cut I got was weird, so I needed a lot of TLC to get my hair back to life again. And I have to say they did a wonderful job. The next day I went back for highlights around 6:15pm, and they stay way pass closing just to finish the job, and they did a wonderful job. Giving the fact that I been there for 3 hours I watched about 4 different guys get their hair cuts I have to say this place rocks at man's cut as well. And I love my highlights, they are so cute!!! Very good experience here today for a hair color. Since I'm allergic to the PPD in hair dyes, the fact that they offer organic dye with minimal PPD was not as tortuous as my usual experience is... Tammy did a fantastic job; and even put more money in my meter. Really cool that several customers came in just to say hello; even if they didn't have any appointments today. I first walked into this place right after it opened. It was so convenient, 2 blocks from my house right next to Nijiya, that I decided to give it a try. I had different people for the first couple of cuts and they were OK. Decent haircuts at a great price. Then I got Tammy. What a lucky break for me. She not only gives a great haircut (and shampoo afterward so all those little cut hairs don't go down your shirt all day), she is also just a great person to spend half an hour with. I went there in Sept and got an awesome new haircut. But when I went back for a trim, the girl who did my hair was not working there any more. The guy who did my hair the second time only took off a half inch even though I asked him to make it shorter. Also, I didn't think the shape was as good as the first time. I first went to this place last August while exploring JTown with my daughter. We had some time so I decided to get a hair cut. Wow, I really looked different coming out of there. The first thing out of my kids mouth was "Wow, its short". It was, and very different for me. I got a lot of compliments from coworkers, even my father in law. I was back in the area 3 weeks ago and went in for another cut. There was a younger girl and an older woman working. Well, I got auntie cutting my hair. She did an awesome job, not as short as last time though. Did I mention the shampoo, scalp/neck/shoulder massage? Wait a minute, this is a barber shop right?, never had anything like this before, hope I have enough money. She cleaned up the cut after the shampoo. The final price, $15!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I've been going there since I moved to San Jose, almost 2 years now, and since then there really isn't anything here I haven't done. They do it all! From Mani/Pedi's, waxing, haircuts, and my favorite, hair straightening! This is a small little shop in the middle of Japan town, the ladies there are unbelievably nice! I used to go and get my hair straightened, but because I'm pregnant now, I have to hold off for a bit. Whenever I need a haircut I go to Tammy, she always helps me out and cuts my hair beautifully! I even let my husband come here, they do great men's cuts too! I always used to do it because I always thought it was a waste of money, whenever we got his haircut somewhere else, it looked like crap, so we figured I could do a much better job. But when we came here, they do such a great job all the time! Very consistent!! Sure its small, but the best places usually are! The prices are very reasonable, the quality is great, the ladies are super nice, what's not to love? This is definitely my go to place for all my spa needs! read more

I came across the place since I live near Japan town and was seeking a new hair stylist and it was their Grand opening with offer of 20% off. Why not, what I needed was pretty simple. Just plain manicure and 1 color to darken my lighten brown from my vacation to Hawaii. I got some lady that had a VERY broken English in her explanation. I was hesitant, but still picked out my hair color and let her continue. Hair coloring product was very good quality did not turn brassy after 2months. HOWEVER when the lady was done she BARELY even blew dry my hair and was like OK done. I have never in my life gone to a salon where I got such shotty customer service. Who goes to the salon gets the full hair color and the stylist doesn't even dry or style the customers hair??? What kind of customer service is that? I had to ask the owner can you tell her to at least blow dry my hair till it's dry, I was not walking in the streets with wet hair, how is that good advertisement by the way coming out of your salon? Very disappointed in the hair stylist but the owner was a very nice younger lady. The stylist then asked me about a hair cut, I immediately said NO that's ok, did NOT want her anywhere near my hair. The owner said they have a different male stylist and that next time to try him out if that works better. I might or might not. BTW, if you plan on doing drop ins DON"T they are VERY small place and you need an appt. for anything otherwise they might not have the appropriate staff on hand to meet your needs. My rule is sorta like dating, don't always be too judgmental on the first date or visit, give them a 2nd shot to try to win you over. I frequently get pedis here and I almost don't want everyone to know that 246 SS delivers exceptional pedis just in case it starts getting too busy over there. Perfect place to take your bff or sister or mom with just two private chairs in the back with a movie of your choosing playing -- it's heavenly. As comfortable as you can be at home but with professional nail artists working on you. The girls do such a great job, they are so polite and caring. I had a late evening appointment and took a picture in there last time of a complex nail design that took longer to do for all the detail work required than I realized, and they went the extra miles for me to make it right, even staying past closing time to get it done without complaining. I really appreciated that generosity as I had to fly out for a wedding the next day - they made my nail dreams come true. This place is okay for girls. I got my hair colored and trimmed by Alicia. She really did take her time coloring and made sure she covered every single strand of hair. She also trimmed a few inches off my hair which was what I wanted and my bf thinks the color and trim is cute. Only problem was that I felt a bit uncomfortable and it was way too expensive for me. I felt uncomfortable because the two hair stylist were talking in another language and looking at my hair. I wasn't sure if they were saying good things or bad things and if they were good things then why couldn't they just say it in English? or if it was something bad then go to the back room and say it there. I thought it was too expensive for me because the stylist I normally go to only charged me $80 or so for a color and trim. If I wanted a cut he normally charged me $95. And he does do a really good job. It was just that I didn't have time to go home and though maybe I could try a salon here in San Jose. If I wasn't in such a rush to get my hair done right away then it wouldn't cost me $130. read more

I've been going to 246 Spa for almost 4 years. I couldn't be happier with the service and the staff. Tammy has been styling my hair since I started coming here. She is super, the style is always beautifully cut and finished. She takes her time, is v attentive to direction, gives suggestions. I highly recommend her. I started getting color done here about 2 years ago and am equally happy. I also come here for brow and lip waxing, also by Tammy; again a great job. All the facilities throughout the salon are spotless, which is hugely important to me. All the staff are friendly and helpful, from coins for the parking meter to entertaining my toddler daughter while she waits for me. My husband and daughter now come here too. Tammy definitely knows how to cut my husband's hair the best; his hair grows oddly so if it's not cut properly it looks a shambles. He kept changing stylists before as he was never satisfied with their work; he now goes to 246 Spa regularly. read more

Really liked my haircut around that time so went back last week again but experience was not the same. The location is not close to my office or my house, but that hasn't stop me from going there for about 1 1/2 years. I get my hair cut by Tammy and truly the only negative point I have is that I wish it was closer to my house or work. First, the atmosphere is very clean, modern and relaxed. While the interior is comfortable, what brings me back time after time is the fact that Tammy does a great job and very conscientious about making sure she does the job right. Once I ran probably 25 minutes late to my appointment (luckily there was no one after me), but it left me with only about 5 minutes to her next appointment. I told her to do what she could and don't worry about being perfect or clean. End result is my super fast cut was better than most 20-30 minute hair cuts I have had at other places. When I am pressed for time I sometimes get my haircut at places near my house, but I always finding myself going to Tammy a week or so later to have her fix it. read more
