I was well pleased that my Cousin Suzy chose this nostalgic venue for us to meet after 37 years. 410 diner was a bit reminiscent of my great-aunt's sandwich shop in Shawnee, OK. When I mentioned to my cousin that I would need a glass of wine after my grueling 4 hour meeting, I was just dropping a hint that I wanted her to choose a venue with a bar. I arrived a few minutes early and when I entered, there was a sign, 'please wait to be seat'. As I was waiting to be seated, I was looking around and didn't see a bar and everyone seemed to be drinking ice tea and sodas. I turned to my left to see a wall of glass cinder blocks and peeking slightly above that wall, there was a neon Budweiser sign. I wandered off to the left to investigate and lo and behold, there was a bar behind that glass cinder block wall. I sat down at the bar, ordered a glass of wine and waited for Cousin Suzy. After salutations, a long hug and kiss, it was time to order. I had my eye on the seafood platter special with the 2 sides of curried okra and stewed cabbage. The seafood platter consisted of catfish fillets, 6 shrimps, hush puppies and cornbread. The catfish fillets had a nice light batter and were fried to perfection. I wish that the same batter on the catfish was used to on the shrimp as the batter on the shrimp was a bit heavy and not very flavorful. I am not a big fan of hush puppies and after I bit into one, I remain to be, not a fan of hush puppies. The stewed cabbage was a bit mundane, lacking good seasoning but the curried okra stole the show!! It was amazing!! The Chocolate Silk Pie was a good reason why I normally don't order dessert. With the nostalgic atmosphere, I was expecting a warm Jello chocolate pudding pie but instead got a frozen chocolate ice cream pie with whipped cream. I really like 410 Diner and will definitely return to try out some items that I saw on the menu. The wait staff was excellent. read more

Love the 50's retro dinner thing they have going on here. Cool place to hang out and lots of stuff to look at while you are waiting to be served. The service is always very attentive and friendly. They take care of their guests right. Always a nice selection of lunch specials and dinner specials. On Tuesdays after 5 PM $2 off any entrée. Nice choice of sides to accompany your entrée. This was my second visit here. I had the broiled snapper with peas and mac and cheese. The service was good. The snapper was tasty, but the portion was a bit small. The peas weren't really green--they were grey like 1950s canned peas (authentic much?) and the Mac and cheese was lukewarm. Good cornbread, though. I really love this place. A classic diner in every sense. I grew up in Connecticut and diners were a staple for me. This is as close as it gets while maintaining some affordability. The menu is diverse and you have a lot of options for how you plate your meal with veggies. Yummy cakes and good drinks round out an easy going delicious and fun experience. read more

Waitress was nice. We ordered the chicken fried steak plate. It looked great on the plate. The salad was good. The white gravy was so very bland. Vegetables were not really cooked. Yellow squash was still raw. The steak was what you might expect from a frozen meal. To top it off, there were so many fruit flies or gnats in the room. It was unbelievable. After shooing away the 12th bug, we were so ready to get out of there. We had never been there before. Hopefully this was just an off day for them. But we won't be going back to find out. Our waitress Amber treated us with such great customer service, the food was exceptional, and overall it was such a cute and homey place to eat. We've been going to 410 Diner for more years than I can count. One reason is the food is reasonable, portions are larger than one can eat and almost always consistent. The reason I said almost is because on our last trip Friday evening we all ordered some of our usual meals, I had the Grilled Chicken Artichoke w/Sonora casserole and green beans. If you've never had Sonora casserole, it's a must and One of my fav items on the menu! My friend ordered the Chicken Fried Steak along with her 2 sides. Her words were, "one of the best I've had as the steak was very tender and not grisly at all!" I don't eat CFS so I wasn't aware that it sometimes comes that way depending on where you order it. Good to know! My boyfriend ordered the Grilled Snapper along w/his 2 veggies and our other friend ordered the Pot Roast or something that was on special which he thoroughly enjoyed as well. Since everyone was too full for dessert, we placed an order to-go for a piece of chocolate cake w/ice cream and a slice of chocolate silk pie. My friend said her chocolate cake was the smallest slice she's ever seen! Now mind you, the servings are typically large enough to share, so she was quite disappointed; however, my slice of chocolate silk pie was huge as demonstrated in the photo attached! I walk in and shake the road dust from my poly-blend polo, allowing my eyes to adjust to the 50's diner decor. I scan the faces of the other patrons. Old couple in the corner eating some sort of garden salad. Maybe Caesar- I can't see the dressing which makes it hard to tell. Another old couple is hunched over burgers. And onion rings. The onion rings look good, I decide. I take a seat positioned so I can see all the old people. Old people are wobbly, but they're also sly and unpredictable. I'll do well to keep my wits about me in this diner. My waitress is quick with the unsweet tea. I like that. She's a little sassy too. I also like that. I say something about all the old ppl in here- she points out the 50's theme and rightly deduces it's probably nostalgia. I decide on a burger and onion rings. The burger was your average diner-style burger: juicy and cheesy. The onion rings though... they were not your average diner o'rings. Those little tangy circles were made with love. I went to the 410 diner with my daughter. I ordered the shrimp Po boy with onion rings. Everything was over battered and slightly greasy. The flavor was good but the fat level was so high that I filled up easily. I ate the shrimp but I couldn't deal with the bread. I really love shrimp, but if I ever go back to the 410 diner I will order almost anything else. I had been to this restaurant several times before but years ago. I don't remember having this sort of criticism. I think I will pass on any further opportunities to go there. read more

I stopped in here to check this place out for a 50s photoshoot. It's the real deal as far as decor. Has a very classic ambiance. Milkshake was served in a traditional glass and cherry on top. :D I had the shrimp platter. Fried well but I wasn't really keen on the cornmeal batter. The macaroni cheese is like my my grandmas...this made me happy. The owner Dean came over to talk to me and compliment me on My Rockabilly outfit and said I could do a photoshoot wherever I wanted. A San Antonio classic - open since 1982 - that I've been going to since I was a baby! Very retro diner - complete with pictures of Elvis and Marilyn and old table tops and a lunch counter! Pretty classic diner food as well! As a vegetarian, I usually get their vegetables plate (choose 3 or 5 of their vegetable options) - the stewed cabbage, Sonora casserole, curried okra, mac and cheese, corn, yams, and ratatouille are my favorites! My son and I dropped in at 6 p.m. to get something and decided to get a slice of blueberry pie with ice cream and a slice of apple pie with ice cream with a glass of milk. The slice of pies were on the small side (in my opinion) and the glass of milk was a skinny glass of lukewarm milk. I was expecting a larger glass of milk for $5. I have been going to 410 Diner for over 30 years; however, tonight will be our last time. First of all the service was excellent, the mushrooms were great even though the batter is different and the country gravy was bland. My husband ordered the Red Snapper with artichoke hearts, mushroom and lemon sauce. Red snapper was fishy and the remainder of the meal was lacking flavor lemon sauce could not be found. My grandson ordered the shrimp dinner with fries, the fries were flavorless and the shrimp tasted fishy and dirty. I ordered the liver and onions with a double portion of the Sonora casserole. The liver had weird pieces of bacon, which never had before, the casserole was inedible and looked old possible too much cayenne pepper might have been paprika that was added little to no sour cream in the casserole. Very disappointed. When paying at the end noticed that the discount was not taken due to this the manager Dean was eyeing us as if it was our fault. Was treated awful and gaslit by the staff. I had amazing grilled mushrooms and margaritas and was so excited to find a place I could be a regular at close to home, I was bragging the whole first part of the experience to my boyfriend. When my entrée came out I noticed the shrimp was mushy and old, it tasted gross, I had to spit it out, I've never had that texture from shrimp before. Floppy and mushy. I started to get nervous it was clear it had been sitting out for too long, was past time to throw out or poor food handling skills by the cooks, I'm not sure. I told the waitress and she barely replied and grabbed the plate like she was going to throw it away and ignored me. I asked if there was a manager and she said no. I said can you take the shrimp off the bill at least, she did but I heard her complaining to other employees loudly saying she didn't know what was wrong and looked annoyed. I walked up to the counter and the owner of the restaurant was there and I asked if he could throw the shrimp away so nobody else eats it or gets sick, he got rude and defensive and said he's owned the restaurant for 50 years and that the shrimp isn't bad, and that it takes 4-8 hours to get sick, I said I know I'm just scared/nervous. He then just walked away was angry and went and grabbed the shrimp to show it to me. It still looked old and was in high standing water which wasn't properly covered and he stuck his hand in it saying look it's good shrimp. Ummm, okay? How am I going to know what he's showing me is the same he served me. thats not my place as the customer to know or be gaslit in to believing I'm wrong. It tasted wrong and sour. I just walked out, I was absolutely shocked that nobody apologized and just said I'm sorry or that they'd have no problems fixing the situation. I'm really saddened because it was a cute place and I liked the atmosphere. I left the waitress a 15% tip even though she was rude too but it's still not her fault. The owner could have easily said I'm so sorry about that I'll look into it, is there anything I can do to make you feel better about coming back. But instead he was mad at me and seemed to not care to have my business again. I have been a customer for 20 years and today the owner was rude and kick use out a group of six because after waiting for 5 min he sat us at a table that was crowded and only coulf fit 4 beacuse another table block the other 2 i told him he walked away so i found the spot we always sit at alway and we moved there he then came up to me and said no you have to move over to other table again i told him we cant fir there he then said leave he owned this place for 40 years im not the owner and to leave now while he put his hands on my back and pushed me or guided me away from the table . The food was decent. I had the fried catfish, new Orleans potatoes, and cabbage. The cabbage was stewed in what tasted like marinara...idk it was weird and was not expecting that taste lol. The potatoes were bland, I added salt. The catfish was delicious and the tartar sauce tasted homemade and was also very good. Our desserts took like 30 minutes to come out. Our waitress was very sweet but seemed overwhelmed. I know she had to prepare the desserts herself, but there was a perfectly capable bartender just chillin that could've helped her. The place was a bit dark inside, but had an overall cool vibe. The exterior sign was really nice and the parking lot was clean. The bathroom was black and white tile ALL over. I was tickled by it but my son said it gave him a headache lol. Just a bit dramatic of him ;) I would definitely eat here again just to try the other dishes. Their sides menu looks awesome! The whole experience was great. From the time we arrived the waitress was very kind and accommodating. My husband ordered the Catfish Po boy which came out piping hot. Our boys had the lasagna w/ Cesar salad and kids chicken tenders. Both meals were really good and hearty portions. My kid the chicken tender expert said they were the best he's had. There were three of us who all ordered entrées with two sides. I was shocked at the price for the type of place. This is supposed to be an old school diner, and yes it has that look, but certainly not what one would think of as diner prices. We did have an appetizer, but only my wife had tea, as my son and I drank water. The bill was a couple dollars shy of $70.00!!! Then of course there is a tip, so now you are looking at $80.00!!! No one got steak, these were just a hamburger steak, salmon, and a catfish dinner. I had black-eyed peas, and some kind of very dry potatoes in a tiny bowl. Neither the peas nor the potatoes really had any seasoning. My hamburger steak with onions on top was tasty. The young lady who waited on us was friendly, and I have no complaints with her. Overall, though, I would probably not return. Mostly due to the price. I realize that Covid caused major issues in businesses requiring them to go up in price, as I had to do in mine, but for my family we will just need to scout out places that are less, as there are still some around, and eat out a lot less. read more

First off the service was fantastic! Friendly people and very attentive. I was super excited to eat here due to the pictures of everyone's food posted but it was kind of a let down; the gravy on the chopped steak was instant and tasted so. Our food was overlooked (asked for it medium get it well done), the chicken fried steak was all breaking and little steak. I will give them big kudos for the onion rings that were perfectly seasoned and not greasy and the macaroni and cheese that was creamy and delicious. Let me point out that the employees are great. I don't think I've ever come across anyone who was rude or unfriendly. The 410 is fairly easy to find and parking is good. I like the menu written in chalk on one of the wall posts and the prices are fair. And I'm not a big diner fan at all. The food, however, isn't all that great. It sort of reminds me of going to Luby's Cafeteria. Yes, it's comfort food but it just doesn't do it for me. The menu feels so extensive that it's almost as if I have information overload. The sides don't seem to have a ton of flavor - just very basic seasoning. I've been here at least 2 or 3 times hoping to find something I like and I guess I'm just not understanding what the draw is...? read more

I am now the Mayor of 410 Diner on Foursquare. Although I am now middle-aged, when we entered this restaurant tonight we brought down the age quotient by about 15 years. The joint was hopping with blue-haired great-grandmothers and cranky old grandfathers and was a Durable Medical Equipment Providers wet dream. Yes there were scooters and walkers galore. I tried the Pork Chop Special. Actually it was the Fried Pork Chop Special but since I did yard work today it was OK. The meat was tender and practically melted in my mouth. I've always wondered why Pork Chops come in pairs at restaurants. When I prepare pork chops at home I only ever eat one. Sides of Mashed Potatoes and cabbage were adequate but not quite flavorful enough. The corn bread was tasty but no longer warm when it reached the table. For dessert I tried the Key Lime Pie. It was tasty and definitely home-made. I almost tasted the hint of some kind of liquor. Do they put liquor in key lime pies? 3.4 Stars out of 5 I'll be back. I'm the mayor after all? read more
