I really like the old school diner vibe this place has, it is nostalgic but not overbearing. The staff is very friendly and polite. There are menus written on the walls in pretty colored chalk and there are a lot of good menu options. Seafood, sandwiches, burgers, shakes, mixed drinks, pies and cakes....the variety is a perfect combination of sweet and savory. I highly recommend the dessert menu. I hate okra with a fiery passion. It is an evil vegetable that inly qualifies as "edible" because it is not a fast acting poison. Curried okra, on the other hand, is actually good food. As someone who hates okra the way he hates the polyps inside Satan's backside, believe me when I say the curried okra is yummy. I had the okra as a side to the fried catfish. That catfish was perfect. Irregularly shaped, evenly cooked, and crispy catfish is a balm to a weary soul. This was that catfish. I ordered a quarter-pound of boiled shrimp to get my fix of shrimp and cats. It came out with the usual red sauce every diner has. It also came with an equal serving of grated horseradish and fresh lemon slices. I made the perfect red sauce for myself and I didn't have to tone it down for anyone. What a joy. Finally, the French silk pie is a diabetic mistake that should only be made once a month and only if you've stuck to your diet like a monk. You need to earn this chocolaty sin. So it had been a while since I had been able to make it over to 410 Diner, but when I found out my wife never had I knew we needed to prioritize! We went for a semi-early dinner and were seated quickly by the bar area. We started off with some fried pickles before we got into the main entrees. The pickles came out smoking hot and were the perfect amount of crunch (along with some extra delicious ranch to dip in). For our main meal, I ordered the California Club and she got the chopped steak with mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and cornbread. My sandwich was excellent, and the fries were great as well (thanks to our waitress for the tip on dipping into the fried pickle ranch!) My wife really enjoyed her meal as well, specifically she was really impressed by the cornbread. Even though we were pretty stuffed by the time we were done (great portion sizes on everything) she wanted some pie to go. She eventually got around to it that night and loved it as well. My wife and I were there this past week.We both had the hand breaded shrimp. It has always been a favorite of ours, and it was great! We went there this evening. I ordered Chicken Fried Steak. It was chewy and tasted odd so I asked for something different. I asked for Chicken fried chicken. It was fine. When I first received my chicken fried steak, my two vegetables were cold. My husband ordered the seafood platter and it was fair at best. At the end of the meal, I mentioned to the waitress that it wasn't that good overall. She said "so sorry hun". Sadly my husband and I have been coming here off and on for over 30 years. It's been a while since I've visited this diner, but two Saturdays ago I was hungry for food from a "local dive" and decided to try the 410 Diner. We showed up at 11:15 on a Saturday morning, 15 minutes after the supposed opening time, only to find it closed. As we showed up, we passed three other cars driving out of the parking lot. Wow! The quality and the price has changed dramatically since I've last visited a couple years ago. Food used to be delicious and a great price. Now overpriced and tastes like food out of a can. I hate to be so blunt but I'm so mad that we paid $60 to-go, and got food that was not worth the price at all. I will attach our receipt to show prices have changed, and also a picture of my food that I didn't eat. Corn was out of a can (not salted, not buttered, just plain nasty flavorless corn.) My tenderloin looked like dog food and tastes flavorless also. My husband got the ribeye, and he said it tasted like it was bad/sour meat. The desserts were more expensive than fancy restaurants we've been to, only to get what tasted like a thawed Apple Pie, and strawberry shortcake with cardboard for the "shortbread" and canned whip cream.I'm truly hoping we don't get sick tonight. We went for Mother's Day, I've been debating writing this review and each time I think abt it , it just steams me more. We were sat quickly and they greeted us friendly, now ordering was the issue. An older woman with brown hair and glasses was our waitress and had an attitude the entire time. If we asked for water " I'm already on it" if we had questions it was very quick uninformative response. Honestly the biggest thing that set me off was my grandmother asking for a salsberry meal with the 'natural gravy ' on the side, something she has ordered 2-3x before and has had no issues ordering. When the food came out, there was a different gravy on the steak. When my grandmother said it was wrong the woman's first response was "Hun, I've worked here for 10+ years we don't have natural gravy. It's never been here" My grandmother disagreed and the woman while mid sentence of my grandmother grabbed her plate and said she'll fix it. The owner came out asking what gravy she referred to, and as soon as my grandmother said it, the owner smiled laughed saying he knew what she was talking about and fixed her meal right up. The waitress not once gave some form of apology for the disrespect and never came back for refills on drinks. I forgot how good this place is. It's a bit of a drive for me, from home or work, but I have to do it more often. The food is amazing and such good prices! When have I ever said that? Wife had a Snapper California with lemon butter sauce, avocados and tomatoes. I had a bacon-wrapped filet, cooked perfectly medium rare. We each got two sides. Sides are incredible. Such a selection of potatoes, rice, veggies, squashes, soups, salads... nothing ordinary, either. The sides are creative and delicious. All served with corn bread and we had two teas. $45! My friend and I ate at 410 diner yesterday. My friend had never been their before for which I have many times. I was visiting with the owner of 41 years owning 410 Diner, great guy works hard. We went at lunch time. Our waitress took great care of us. The food was really good. I had chicken fried chicken, and it was so moist and the size of two large chicken breasts. My friend liked that they have around 20 different side dishes to choose from. The inside is kind of retro, very nice, they do have booths, and they do have a bar for those who like to have nice drink with their meal. I truly believe this is a much place to to eat. I saw Dean today. I would love to talk to him sometime about diners. Ain't too many people that know about the diner business I do. I have had a number very successful diners in my career. (I am 87 now) There is no doubt about it, Dean has more knowledge about real diner food than anybody I have ever met here in San Antonio. The fact that he serves dill plckle slices with the grilled cheese tells me that he really knows what he is doing. The 410 Diner needs more "color," though. All of the staff was dressed in black and/or denims today. Why not make waitresses a little more spiffy? Not white and aqua green as I saw and some recent photos, but a little bit more sleek but still retro. check out the server uniforms of Papadeaux's. just drop the vests and added a bright red apron to the black pants and white shirts and maybe even a little diner caps on the waitresses. In today's environment, you might even think about having them wear ball hats instead of the old diner cap. Put some bright embroidery on the shirts with your logo. read more

Tried the Diner for the first time on Boxing Day. Had the Dean's special snapper, Sonora casserole, new potatoes Orleans (left out of the picture somehow). Pretty solid meal overall. Wife had chicken fingers and enjoyed them. Very good service. The place (especially the restrooms) was immaculate, which we really appreciated. Love the oldies playing and classic diner decor. Love the large amount of veggie and side item choices. Will definitely return again soon to try something new and leave room to try deserts! Don't know what has happened here but our last visit was not as we have experienced in the past. We don't live close to this area so it's a bit of a drive to come here. There were 5 of us. Husband got Chicken Fried Steak (no flavor)...Nephew got Hamburger (1.50 for a slice of cheese) . He said it was so so. He had to keep asking for items that the server did not bring. Brother in law and wife got Seafood Platter.. Had to remind server to bring her fries. I got Snapper Almondine. Fish was over cooked. Cornbread was not the same either. Very dried out. The pinto beans was good with various vegetables infused but again the vinegary seasoning was a bit too much for me. The large portion of cornbread was fresh moist & not overly sweet yumm.
