So we went here for a big celebration dinner since my friend really wanted to go. I looked at the menu dubiously as me and my fiance are vegetarian, bit there were 2 things we could eat so I said fine. Well I tried the pear and Gorgonzola ravioli and they were disgusting. I literally ate one and could eat no more. But never fear, I still paid $14 to eat one ravioli. Yey 5 Spot! Expensive food that does not taste very good (though maybe they are better with their meats....but for $14 to eat nothing I will never be trying that again). Oh and I wanted to give them no stars, but apparently you have to give at least one. They definitely do not even deserve that. read more

Because restaurants close so early, The 5-Spot tops my list for great late night meals and atmosphere. Located in a perfect place on top of Queen Anne Hill, this place always pleases me as well as my out of town guests with it's diverse, ever-changing menu, great service and late hours. We returned to the 5 Spot for some of their famous fried chicken on Saturday at 9:00. We were seated immediately at a table in the middle of the restaurant. And then... nothing. 3 servers walked by us for 10 minutes never making eye contact or aknowledging us. The restaurant was only 50% full but I noticed that only one party had food on the table. Another family we knew was seated at the same time we were. When we decided to leave we walked by their table and said "good luck". They said a server had not approached them either. We won't go back which is too bad as the 5 Spot used to be our favorite spot on Queen Anne. read more

Delicious, hearty fare. Relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Seasonal menus with fun, creative themes --- a lot of effort goes into 5 Spot, and it shows. Expensive enough that you probably won't eat there every day, but once in a while doesn't break the bank. read more

Local business without a heart. This restaurant is a Seattle staple, but the food is just ok. They entice people with changing locales, but Coastal Kitchen on 15th is a much better choice. Unless you live in Queen Anne and this is your local spot, I don't recommend making a special trip. So many more worthwhile places to get a good meal! read more

I've been here before and loved it. Returned after 7 years and was disappointed. It took at least 10 mins for our server to come up to us. It wasn't busy, but our server was busy talking to another server about her night. No apology, nothing. Most weekends, when I think I want brunch, 5 spot is one of those places that is always considered. I really like their themed meals and how you can also purchase artwork once the theme is flipped. There most definitely is a wait if you're going for weekend brunch, but their ham is great, as are their potatoes. read more

I've known of some people who have worked there and been mis-treated and badly taken advantage of. Not a good value for family dining. We went there after a Theatre show with the kids and another family. The children's food portions were dismal. For similar menu, you get a better value at Elliot's Bay Brewery or Chinook's--at least you don't leave hungry. The food took way to long, too. Truly awful breakfast. I had the Kalua Pork Hash which was a boiled mess. Nothing crisp, just a monotone brown and flavorless pile of garbage. This was not even a weak attempt at imitating luau pork, which might have come close if they added some robust seasoning and finished this on the griddle. Just wet, flavorless, and really inedible. "Fancy toast" is a joke; it is a single thin slice of French bread. Horrible coffee, too, they didn't even get that basic thing right. read more

This is still a great place to eat. Went in there this morning to treat myself to a nice breakfast and received exceptional service and high quality food despite the fact that the place was PACKED. I ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs, and hash browns. When the hash browns were too mushy the servers redid them twice even though I was ready to give up after the first try. Well, that's the type of service that will definitely keep me coming back. Thanks for being a high quality place to eat. I will definitely recommend others to come here. read more

I've always heard good things about 5 spot which is why I was so disappointed at my experience today . We walked in and were seated and greeted by our server Amanda, we told her we needed minute and she came back a while later. My friend and I both ordered bloody Mary's , she ordered eggs Benedict and I huevos rancheros. The food definitely hit the spot! We were not let down, it came out fast and looked and tasted pretty good. Our issue was service. I was a server for seven years my friend has also been in the industry for years so it is very unlike us to make a stink especially for a place we know is busy. I feel the service totally ruined the experience for both of us and we will not be back. Here's why: Amanda took our order in good time (bloody Mary's and two entrees) our food came out about 15 minutes later but our bloody Mary's were nowhere to be found and when she dropped our food off we expected to hear SOMETHING but it went unnoticed by her . Half way through our meal Amanda came over with watered down bloody Mary's and said word for word " Either the bartender took for ever or I didn't notice they were sitting there" I was a bit shocked but decided maybe she needed a break. I decided to give the bloody a try anyway and it was completely watered down but on top of that had absolutely no flavor. The mix was awful! So disappointing . Amanda came back only to clear our plates we told her the bloodys weren't good and had no flavor and she said added "and I also took 25 minutes to bring them" I was completely flabbergasted ! She brought the check and we got out of there as soon as possible . For such a popular place you'd think the employees would be a little more welcoming. Sad! read more

The cinnamon swirl french toast with Nat's caramel sauce is fabulous. I always order it when I visit "5 Spot". When you arrive, you may find a crowd waiting to be seated, but don't leave. The tables are turned over rather quickly so you won't have to wait too long. Even if there is wait, it's worth it. An extra bonus is that it's a very kid friendly place. read more

okay... i really wanted to like this place, it's so cute and i know that it's a classic, plus within walking distance of my place... but that said, i ws pretty underwhelmed. my grandmother was staying with me and we deceide to give them a try for lunch. the first thing our server told us was the daily 86 list- pretty much all i wanted was included. annoying. i regroup. we order. my grandma gets the daily soup, i order a salad and a PBR. my drink got there quick, but it was close to 40 min for the food. soup and salad. seriously. and as the chorizo that would have normally come on my salad was not avalible, i got to overhear a not so nice, somewhat heated conversation between the chef and my server about how i, the customer, should have ordered something else. well, i wanted to, but you were out of all of that as well... soo.... the salad was ok, though it it did have a totally gross fried-poached egg on it. the soup (beer, cheese, apple) was really sweet, grainy and broken. sorry, i won't be coming back. read more

My family and I were on vacation visiting some friends. Was taken here because it was a short walk away but mainly because of the quality breakfast food and atmosphere. We were told before hand that one of the cool aspects of this restaurant were their themes. At first I didn't understand but once we got there, it all made sense. Before the light bulb went off in my head, I thought for sure we were entering the wrong restaurant because the front read "Philadelphia", not "5 Spot" or at least thats what caught my eye. After entering, I noticed the elaborate decor, framed paintings, other art work and a huge replica of the Liberty Bell. I quickly realized that they've decked out the entire place with Philadelphia gear and decorations, hence the sign out front. Just the attention to detail and the shear effort they put into setting the restaurant up to match this theme, is amazing. I hear they switch themes, every so often. Ok, on to the food.... GREAT FOOD! Some may say its just breakfast but to go along with their restaurant theme, they have specials to mirror the theme. They also have unique, delicious omelets. I can't say enough about their hash browns. They are the BEST hash browns I've ever eaten. No only are they nice and crispy on the outside but they are moist and soft in the middle. They also give it a great flavor.... gotta have the hash browns. My wife had their pumpkin pancakes and for someone who isn't a big fan of pancakes, I'm a fan of their pumpkin pancakes. Totally flavorful, fluffy and they have just the most amazing topping on it. Gotta go try it. I will definitely hit up 5 Spot again, the next time I'm in town. read more

The food was delicious for a more diner-type place. I got eggs benedict and pumpkin pancakes. The biscuit on the eggs benedict was pretty dry (and I also prefer English muffins vs. biscuits for EB), but the eggs and hollandaise were really good. The pumpkin pancakes were also very pumpkin-y, unlike other places I've been where you can't even taste the pumpkin. I was unsure about the crispy potatoes initially but they were also super tasty. The service, however, was a different story. I went on a Monday and got there around 11am. There was less than 20 people in the whole restaurant (bar included), no one else waiting, and I STILL stood there for 15 minutes before anyone even asked if I had been helped! The only other person who talked to me before that asked if I was waiting for a take out order and walked away when I said no. I would have sat myself, but there were not one, not two, but FOUR signs indicating to wait to be seated. Our server wasn't too personable either, and the only good thing about them is they brought us food. I would probably go back, but wouldn't necessarily go out of my way for it again. read more

One of my favorite places to go for breakfast since they always have great items to choose from. I had the biscuits and gravy and my BF had their basic breakfast (eggs, hashbrowns, bacon and toast). Portions are generous, especially with the hashbrowns. Options are varied, from basic breakfast items (scrambles, omelettes, pancakes, etc.) to special breakfast plates (see their Tornado Alley breakfast on their website). If going for breakfast or brunch, I recommend either going early or calling to make a reservation. The lobby is a tight squeeze and can get pretty crowded during the late breakfast hours (after 11am). Seating is pretty ample, but the last few times we went there they were always busy and tables were full so you may be in for a wait. The decor is interesting and fun and the atmosphere vibrant. The only downside was the invasion of space that occurred when customers waiting for tables spilled into the dining area. We had several people standing up against our table (literally) as we were still eating, and whenever the servers or customers (either leaving the dining area or being taken to their tables) walked by, there was a lot of hovering over our table, and butts in our faces and food because of the lack of walkway space. It would've helped if the hostess/servers guided those waiting customers spilling into the dining area away from those already seated and eating because it's not so great having a stranger breathing over the food you're about to enjoy. read more
