Was a little early for my flight home and decided to treat myself to a break from my diet. With low expectations I ordered a filet and was delightfully surprised. First, it was a huge filet and I knowingly ordered it medium and it was presented to me as I expected... plenty of pink due to the thickness and an amazing char crust for texture on the outside. I've ordered steaks from many fine steakhouses and this one has been the tops. It also was complemented by some delicious green beans and potatoes. Service was excellent and timing was perfect. Stopped in here at JFK airport for a layover. Usually you don't see Steakhouses in airports so we decided to give it a try since we had a full two hours prior to our flight. We weren't super hungry but new we wouldn't be home until very late in the evening so wanted to fill our stomachs with something other than a sandwich. We were promptly sat and ordered their 5ive Steakburger to share along with some waters and an unsweetened iced tea and french fries. We were served semi-promptly but we added cheese to the burger and it was like a half of a slice that cost $2-3 dollars. We also asked for a second plate since we were sharing when we ordered and had to remind them to bring it when they brought the burger over. We finished eating and the burger was decent and it was filling so we were hoping for our check quickly to get on over to our gate and relax before our flight. The restaurant was not packed or busy but we had to hail down our waiter several times for water and tea refills and then had to get up and walk over to the hostess desk to ask for our check because we needed to go. In an airport setting I expect really quick service and a check quickly knowing everyone is on the go, this is the reason for the lower rating. read more

After what could not really be considered a vacation, I took my weary bones to Logan Airport to make my way back to Oakland. Wait a tick, my flight to JFK is delayed. I can either wait for that flight, or wait 7 hours to get a direct to Oakland. Why I didn't take the direct flight, I don't know, but I decided to go through NYC. When I got to the gate, I found out that my flight WOULD be taking off on time...to La Guardia. I would then take a shuttle to JFK to get to my connecting flight. Not only that, I had to get my baggage at La Guardia, and then re-check my bags at JFK. Thankfully, I was not charged the extra bag fee...but more on that later. After this clusterfeck of a day, I needed booze and food. Badly. My flight wasn't scheduled to take off for another couple of hours, so I looked at the menu of all the places in the terminal. As I was craving a burger, 5ive it was. Or wasn't. You walk in, and there's no real rhyme or reason. The bar was full, but I was unsure about whether or not I should seat myself. It was not immediately clear. The service was so-so, I can only imagine dealing with ungrateful, cranky travelers, but with just a smile, they could probably make BANK being the bright spot in an otherwise crappy day. The burger was above average, and the margarita I had was okay- although both were overpriced for the quality. Let's just put it this way, I'm going to think twice about making an effort to be nice to waitstaff in these places- because they just don't care. read more

The food and service are excellent and they have no problem accommodating special requests and speeding things along so you can make your plane. The food and presentation are excellent. Great cocktails! Food was fresh and tasty. We had an Old Fashion and a Negroni, caprese salad, followed by an excellent Chenin Blanc and the fish and chips. Though it was Christmas Day and they were short staffed, May did an incredible job keeping things together. We watched her almost single handedly, take orders, mix drinks, serve, and clear. I had breakfast or breakfast had me? I wanted a simple bacon and eggs with tomato and wheat toast. The food wasn't bad, the coffee was below average and not very hot. The service was better than expected for an airport. What ruined it all was they charged me ala cart and the check came to $31.56. Who charges ala carte for bacon and eggs? There was never an offer of a refill on the warm coffee. I would try them again except 31.56 for a couple of eggs and bacon is nuts. I don't care if it is an airport I've had breakfast at airports before but this was crazy. No wonder the place wasn't full. There is an over crowded Dunkin with a really long line I will stand on next time to at least get a good cup of coffee. Rule 1 for all places serving coffee in the morning you must get the coffee correct or you get this meh type of review. Bad coffee equals bad review. Every time I fly, I leave extra time so that I can have their insanely delicious veggie burger and a glass of rose at the bar. I was apparently really hungry when we got off our 5 hour flight from Puerto Rico so we stopped here to grabbed a bite because the menu looks tempting. The meat was very dry, the top bun was soaked in grease and has a hard cover shell. The only difference between the two is that the Mexican burger had guacamole and jalapenos. Truthfully, an in-in-out burger or even a cheeseburger from McDonald's tastes better than this piece of crap. I ate the patty and the bottom piece of bread, leaving the dry tasteless top bun for them to clean up. The fries were also disgusting.
