The inside of the restaurant was cute and bright with large windows and quite a good amount of seating. I definitely recommend making a reservation however, since it was very packed. When we went we decided to share entrees family style and ordered the Salt & Pepper Fried Tofu and String Beans, the beef chow mein, the Salt & Pepper Fish, and Simon's Garlic Chicken. All of the dishes were good but the standouts were definitely the Salt and Pepper fish and the Salt and pepper fried tofu. The salt and pepper flavoring was spicy and light with most of the flavor coming from the light fry of the fish and tofu making them taste airy and not too oily or heavy. On this occasion, my group wanted a sampling of a few things, so we ordered the Salt and Pepper Wings, Hot and Sour Soup, Chow Mein, Shrimp and Bok Choi and Kung Pao Chicken. Everyone of these dishes were spot on with their approach . . .nothing out of the ordinary with a heavy focus on serving size, cooked to order and piping hot. Among the favorites were the juicy, hot and crisping wings, delicious rich soup and the Bok Choi. All were plentiful and would be dishes that I would order again. I walked into 606 and the spot was busy, clean and packed with diners and being nosey I looked over at some of the dishes people were eating and they looked amazing. Shrimp overload was on the menu today so I went in for shrimp dumplings (sublime!) and General shrimp whose flavors were spot on perfect. All in all both dishes were amazing and I ordered a second set of dumplings so I wouldn't regret leaving San Francisco without another round The two servers who attended to me were awesome and embodied hospitality. This is a solid 4.5 and has a lot of potential. The story behind the opening is alone heartwarming. Children of first gen restaurant owners took over to carry on their parents' dreams. Having eaten at the original and their sister Sun Hong Kong restaurant in Oakland for decades, I am familiar with the original menu and was hesitant to try this new one. It was surprisingly very good. First, the must try: their HK milk tea. I came with my parents, both Hong Kong raised foodies who do not hold back on criticism. It's stressful introducing them to new Chinese places. They loved the milk tea and said it couldn't have achieved this flavor without actually brewing the tea in the back (as opposed to using a mix), which some Chinatown diners do. Rich and creamy, it kept me up so careful if you want to down a cup at dinner. My parents say that there's a belief in Hong Kong that, to try out whether a Chinese restaurant is worth its salt, you only need to get the dry beef ho fun (gon chau ngai ho) - since it is immediately apparent with this dish if the cook has wok skills, I.e., if there is sufficient wok hei (breath of the wok) in the dish. They ordered this, and I held my breath. Much to my surprise, it was delicious and we could taste the wok hei. I say surprised because the ability to work a wok and achieve wok hei disappeared with our generation, since most of us have chosen white collared jobs and not to follow in parents or grandparents footsteps. At 606, they got it down. Very impressive. The king do spareribs was very good. A little too tender and not crispy enough for me, but they use quality meat. The honey walnut shrimp was also very good. Large succulent pieces of shrimp. The only issue was that it lacked the shrimp flavor and was a little on the salty side. The green beans was excellent - done better here than most places. Hot and sour soup is a winner as well. We will be back to try other dishes on the menu. Service was excellent. The waitress said she's learning Mandarin (but we are in SF Chinatown - learn Cantonese! Free Cantonese courses at SF City College, btw). Quick, efficient, professional. A small critique was that the broth of the soup seemed a bit plain, but was told they custom cook for people who want less sodium or other variations.
