My wife had a lunch here and really enjoyed it. We decided to give dinner a try. Unfortunately it was not the same. In general, the food was good. But my wife had the clam chowder and did not enjoy it. Her scallops and shrimp were a bit over cooked. I had the ahi which was good. The bread pudding was the highlight of the evening. Where the restaurant fell down was the service. Our cocktails arrived after the first course. We had to ask for bread. And we had to ask for our wine after the mains were out. These service issues make for less than a positive night out. Given that the food was not outstanding, the service was very uneven, and the excellent seafood restaurants in Denver and Boulder, we'll give 740 Front a miss the next time we are looking for seafood. read more

Place was impeccably clean - Ambiance 2 thumbs up. Service attentive but shallow and unprofessional. Food a major let down! My Artichoke was dry and under cooked - basically inedible. I squawked a little - it returned to the table - dry and burnt 5 minutes later. The house salad was boston lettuce and dressing. I've been to many restaurants - even the chains include several veggies in their salads.I think that's the first time I've had a house salad with 1 ingredient - lettuce. We spent about $120 and left hungry because the food was either over or under cooked / spiced - let me say very unusually. We love many different types of foods from around the world and are cool with many varied flavors - so I don't believe the food would appeal to most folks. We arrived at 6 pm on a Saturday evening and the place was rather empty - my wife suggested leaving - I said let's give it a try - I was wrong. My friends and I enjoyed a lovely dinner here recently. We ordered several small plates to share and enjoyed all of them. We also indulged in some baked potatoes to top off our meal which were also very good. The drinks were excellent as well. Not sure why anyone would give 5 stars. Tried the first time ever for happy hour. Sat and ordered at about 3:45. Asked the gentleman who sat us what was good and he highly recommended the chicken wings and bison carpaccio so we tried those and a few other things. Our 1st round of drinks came out timely and a mediocre clam chowder. FInally.... at 4:20 40 MINUTES after ordering the rest of our apps arrived. The wings (another reviewer wrote) were mushy and frankly gross. I shared I wasn't happy about them and waiter did or said NOTHING. Service was spotty. NOTE: we were like the ONLY table in there it was dead. During the time we sat waiting for food we could tell management or owners were in the restaurant and no one bothered to say anything to us or check.Other reviewers have noted negative feedback regarding management/owners and I can say I see why. Ambiance is cool. Oysters were good! Although I kept getting shards of shell or something in my bites. Left out $60, dissatisfied and still hungry so we got burgers. Maybe this place is better for steak or "fine dining"? Won't be returning. read more

I came out for my mothers birthday with my boyfriend and parents. The place has been remodeled to be an open room. The acoustics in the new remodeling leave the place loud and hectic, like a school cafeteria. We tried to baked oysters and calamari to start. The baked oyster's seemed like a bunch of cheese and not much oyster. The calamari was thickly breaded and contained lemons, which the menu didn't mention. I bit in to one and it took me a minute to even realize what i was chewing on. My father's steak was overcooked and the waitress didn't offer to fix it. We ended the evening with their creme brulee, which was soupy. Next time we want to go celebrate something special we will most likely venture into boulder to go to the Chop House or The Cork to get a nice steak. read more

I was back in the Boulder area for the first time in a couple of months and was craving an excellent meal and a bottle of excellent wine. I was not disappointed here. My friend and I were warmly received by the hostess and the FOH Manager, Jaron, was equally gracious and was happy to help navigate the wine menu. We went with a bottle of the Brunello, which quickly turned into two by the time our entrées were on the way. The food was impeccable. We started with the carpaccio, and it may have easily been the best dish of the evening. I went on to have the rack of lamb: undoubtedly high quality meat cooked to absolute perfection (rare). My friend went with the fried gulf shrimp, which was outstanding; how often do you find fresh, plump shrimp cooked to perfection in Colorado! My only complaint is that the wine list was a bit limited, but then again "limited" for this oenophile is any menu that lacks several châteauneuf-du-pape varieties. read more

We went with a small group of 7 people for an after work celebration on Tuesday, Sept. 6. Food was good. Loved the butter lettuce salad. Wine is decently priced for a restaurant. Prices seemed reasonable, although we ate lightly. Our server was inattentive. We had to ask someone to find her to place additional food and drink orders. And we waited about 15 minutes to get the bill. We'll go back, but we'll ask to sit in another section. read more

Food was good. Drinks were better! We had Barramundi and Prime Rib, Oysters and Crab cake. In my opinion the crab cake was not Maryland lump style. It was good just not matching description. Fish was tasty and good portion size. Prime rib was good and cooked as asked. For the price of the meals, they should come with a side though. Also, waitstaff was spread a bit thin. Empty dishes sat a little longer than necessary and occasionally it was tough to get attention because server was busy with 4 other tables. I was not impressed for what I paid. The burger was average, a bit dry and the bun was almost stale. They had a happy hour of oysters or jumbo shrimp, with no time on the sign as you walked in. We asked about the oysters and they said happy hour just ended. At least let us get one order in or take the sign down. I've been to this restaurant several times since it opened several years ago. I never thought it was great, just okay. I returned last night for a birthday celebration dinner (geez, what I was thinking?). First, the maitre d' seemed grumpy (okay, maybe he was having a bad day). But my wife and I found the rest of the service here poor. After our waiter introduced himself he promptly disappeared and we had to request another staff member to find and bring him back so we could order (note: the best server was the guy that filled our glasses with water). The food was okay (I had the barramundi), but far too expensive for what you got. The fish was served on a small bed of spinach...and that was it -- no side dish, such as potatoes, vegetables, etc. To order a side dish of mashed potatoes would have been another $10 (huh?). I had mentioned to the maitre d' that it was my birthday when I arrived. Anything gratis for the occasion, like a small little dessert? Forget about it. I finally learned my lesson and will never visit this place again. read more

740 Front has become one of our favorite restaurants. The food is great and the atmosphere is unique with the huge, carved wood Victorian bar. Last night our group loved the salmon and shrimp/scallop entrees. Two of us ordered the pork chops which were perfectly cooked. A small disappointment was the chops came on a huge portion of mashed potatoes with "roasted vegetables." The vegetables were comprised of mostly roasted potatoes with literally one carrot, one chunk of onion and one zucchini. There needed to be a little extra attention to detail and no doubling up on potatoes on an already heavy meat and potatoes dish. First time visit since this place changed from the Old Louisville Inn. The new decor is very nice but not too fancy that I feel out of place. Our waitress and the rest of the staff was very attentive and knowledgeable about the specials, food and drink menu. We had the calamari, mussels and steaks for dinner. Appetizers were very good and the sauce / broth for the mussels was amazing. We also enjoyed the breading on the calamari as well as the calamari itself - very tender. The steak was cooked to perfection. I would recommend 740 Front to all. Sure the prices are higher, but the food is worth. By no means is it overpriced for the experience and food. Margaritas superb, oysters on the half shell delicious, salad good but the roast chicken should be taken off the menu. Dry, over cooked, very disappointing. I was fortunate as one of the wait persons also had it the night before & agreed with me. I was refunded my cost for the roast chicken. I returned the favor with the gratuity. They could buy the delicious roast chicken at costco, cut it in half & still make a 600% profit. This is a great restaurant & it has a superb happy hour. Just don't order the chicken! read more

To say that the employees here are unprofessional would be an understatement. I walked in to the bar on Sunday to watch the Broncos game, and ordered a Tivoli Lager. The bartender (who has served me at least a dozen times in the past month) asked me for my I.D. to verify my age (I am 37 years old). When I told them I had forgotten it at my house, I was immediately asked to leave, and was told that I could speak with the manager if I felt it necessary. On my way out of the restaurant I approached the manager, and began to express my dissatisfaction with the lack of professionalism and common sense displayed by their bartenders. At this point, one of the bartenders (some shabby looking child), approached me aggressively and began talking over me, and telling me to get out of the restaurant. I "shooed" him away, at which point he became irate and told me that his "family owns the restaurant", and that I needed to leave. I obviously didn't pay much attention to the child, and continued speaking with the female manager, with very little satisfaction. In conclusion, I am not surprised that this establishment, located 25 yards from the only ice skating rink in town, a week before Christmas, and during a Bronco's game, had only 4 customers in the entire restaurant. I will be surprised if it is still open this time next year. read more

A must visit!!!!!! I visited 740 Front street Friday July 10th. It was extremely busy but a friend and I managed to get a seat at the bar. The remodel is beautiful. The craft cocktail s where extremely delicious, and they have a solid craft beer selection as well. The food was fantastic. Oysters Asiago where off the charts good and my main course was epic. They only use certified Angus beef which less then 8 percent in the country is classified as. It was the best steak I've ever had, And i can't wait to go back and try the prime beef. The staff was prompt and friendly, especially the bar back jack who obviously takes pride in the restaurant. read more

If you are in Boulder and want to try something new, this is the place. Only 10 minutes away. My wife and I tried it last month when we were in town and loved it. The owners did a great job renovating an historic building - even keeping the old bar. The food, wine and service was great and they have a fantastic cocktail menu. We are from San Mateo, CA and found out that the chef came from one of our favorite restaurants that closed last year - Capellini. They even have some Capellini-based dishes on their menu like Veil Milanese. read more

Good food with only mediocre service. We went to celebrate my wife's birthday. We had 6:45 reservations, but our table wasn't ready so we went to the bar for a drink. It took 15 minutes to get our drinks and by then our table was ready. After we were seated we waited for several minutes for our waitress. We ordered the spinach and cheese tip which was good but there were not nearly enough chips for the dip. Within minutes of our dip arriving, our Caesar Salad for the table arrived. We could not find any wait staff to get salad plates so we ate our salads on our plates covered with cheese dip. No bread was ever offered. Our son ordered the filet which he said was over done and over seasoned. I had the fried shrimp and my wife ordered the striped bass, both dishes were good. Overall, I would have to say the food is good, but the prices are a little high for Louisville and I would have thought that the service would have been better since they have been open for a while now. read more

Had dinner here last night with two other couples to celebrate an anniversary. We were a few minutes early but we were seated immediately and had a server at our table in less than a minute. From that point on, our server Ian really made the night a memorable event. He had our bottle of wine and cocktails on the table in less than five minutes, and really made us feel like we were a priority! He was very knowledgeable and clearly loves his job. We ordered the clams, shrimp cocktail, salmon cerviche (super-yummy), and the portobello mushroom to start. The shrimp cocktail was quite bland, sauce clearly not made fresh, everything else though was quite good. The Colorado bass was great, as was the Ono, but one person in our party got a huge bay leaf in his clam and corn chowder, which was not pleasant. However, the attentive service by Ian made up for the small missteps with the food. The creme brûlée was soooo good, the berries at the bottom were delicious. I would agree with previous reviewers about the manager--we asked to speak with him to rave about Ian, and he didn't have any reaction, never even smiled and never identified himself by name or title. read more
