So glad we stopped by! So I believe this use to be the old sports gear place that went out of business. Anyway we were greeted by 2 young ladies as soon as we stepped in which is always nice. The space feels bigger then the sports gear place and you can see the kitchen as soon as you walk in as well as smell the goodness! First time here but not the first time at a dumpling house so I really wanted to try the fried rice and I ordered it with no chicken or shrimp choice. As you see in the pic it's a perfect bowl for 3 people. It was brought to the table fresh and hot and was very delicious. Just the right amount of egg and fluffy. The bbq pork buns were just as good (3 for $8). Lastly the shaomai was oh so good! Seating here is limited and gets pretty busy around lunch. It's mother's day, so we all decided to eat at 88 BaoBao in Concord,CA. We are a party of 6 and as soon as we ordered our food, it was served within a short period of time. The staffs are very nice. These place is my new go to spot for dumplings and dim sum! Everything we ordered (tempura shrimp, pork xiaolong bao, pan fried pork bun, shrimp/pork shuimai, beef roll) was delicious. 5 stars. What was more impressive was the customer service from Rika, the manager. Was so excited when I saw the sign, Opening soon! We definitely needed a place like this. I do t have to drive far for delicious dim sum, and not ridiculously expensive. A must try is the Pork Xiaolong Bao. A very delicate pillow filled with a tasty pork filling and delicious broth. The Pan Fried Pork Bun was another delicious dish. Pork Siu Mai also had a great flavor, but I think was on the steamer too long. Overall, the service was great. Very friendly and pleasant staff. Everything here is made fresh. You can actually see dim sum being prepared fresh through the glass partition. We will definitely be returning to enjoy other items on the menu. read more

Maybe it was because we were super hungry, but we just about inhaled everything I ordered here. We went for a grocery run next door at Trader Joe's and decided to grab some food for a late dinner. We got two types of xiao long bao (soupy dumplings, for the uninitiated), the grilled squid, and plain rice noodles. The squid was a bit chewy, but the flavor and smell were so good I didn't mind exercising my jaw. The dumplings were perfectly soupy and delicious. Even the plain rice noodles (I think they call them silky noodles or something) were not disappointing. No wonder the place was packed. read more

Was very excited to try this place. We ordered s1, p2, p18. The skin on s1 was thick compared to other places we have tried. Hot soup inside but the meat and flavor was just ok. p2 had a soup inside like s1, which is odd for this boa. Usually this type of boa is flat and grilled on both sides. Most disappointing is p18. The texture is good & chewy but has zero flavor. Only tiny specs of flower on the boa, which also didn't have any flavor. p18 came with a sweet condense milk as a dipping syrup. Name it condense milk boa? (I feel lied to...) You order, pay and get a number for your table. You grab your own water & box for leftovers. Very clean. Friendly people. The glass noodles were great, and the dumplings were decent. It's hard not to compare to Dumpling Hours, but they fall just short. I have only been there once with my friend. In my opinion the quality of cooking needed to be improved more. I ordered the spices dumplings and steamed dumplings. Overall not a bad experience! Service is quick and efficient. Food is decent and the facility is well cared for. My wife and I ordered 4 plates of food and were both stuffed with some leftovers. The dishes we ordered were; pork xiao long bao(xlb), golden buns with condensed milk, pan fried pork buns, and beef roll. The pork xlb is an overall 6-7/10. The flavor is spot on but I think due to the larger size of their xlb the meat in the center tends to be a little more dry than other places. Definitely worth getting and making your own opinion about! The golden buns with condensed milk were well fried and very delicious. Slightly different than other places as they typically are shaped in a way where you can pull them apart but other than that these were solid and I would definitely get them again! 8/10! Pan fried pork buns..... I don't recommend. Something about them is just not hitting it. It might be the dryness of the bread. The difficulty of eating them. I really couldn't put my finger on why they just weren't good. It felt like they just kind of sat on the table and didn't want to be there. (4/10) Beef rolls.... the polar opposite of the pan fried pork buns. Extremely good. Flavor is spot on! Sauced well, fried well, meat is marinated to perfection. If there was one thing I'd add, it would be thinly sliced onions. But otherwise the best beef roll in the Concord, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill area. 9/10! As a whole, it hits the spot when going to a place looking for food similar to din tai fung or dumpling hours. read more

Came in to try out this place. We were left trying to figure out how to order. We were just given a menu and no instructions. We were told we could sit down and order but no one came to pickup our order. We then went to the register to place our order. Pork XLB meat inside the flavor was underwhelming. The ginger condiment that always accompanied this dish in other restaurants was non existent. The only condiments on the table was a watered down Chinese sweet soy sauce in a maple syrup container?, a chili oil sauce that had no flavor no heat and a what I think was a watered down version of a vinegar. We ordered what was listed as a veggie pork shiu mai was not anything that looked like a typical shiu mai. Instead, what came out was a steamed dumpling that was shaped more like a pot sticker with a thick gummy wrapper. Again , the pork inside like the XLB was underwhelming and bland. With no good condiments to try to make it taste somewhat decent, this is strike two. The chicken Chow Mein had minuscule pieces that I had to look carefully to see if there was any chicken among the greasy noodles. I asked if they had any Chinese hot mustard and they didn't have any. Strike Three. The garlic green beans came out decent but I've had better green beans at other dumpling houses. Now that I've tried a sampling , I would NOT come back here. The non existent flavor in the dumplings Plus no attention to the condiments shows that this place is run like a fast food joint with no quality control. We had dinner at this restaurant in Concord yesterday (October 20, 2023). We ordered the food at the walk-up counter, filled our water cups and found a table next the front door. There is no traditional table service. The dumplings were good as were the shrimp fried rice and chicken chow mein. The pop corn chicken was tasty and the coating crunchy. The restaurant is small and very noisy. CONCLUSION: We did not have high expectations for this place, but we were pleasantly surprised with the quantity, quality and taste of the food. The food was amazingly good for a fast food Chinese "take-out" place. Parking is easy as this place is in a strip mall sopping center. I recommend this place for anyone looking to try some Chinese "fast food" (certainly the food is more authentic and tastier than anything at Panda Express). Huge disappointment. We ordered at the counter and they didn't ask if it was for here or to go. I shouldn't have assumed but when we sat at the table, I looked at the receipt and noticed it was to go. I immediately went to the front and let them know we were eating there. She asked if we wanted plates? I let her know we did. They brought the food in to go containers and didn't bring plates. I went back up front for plates and the lumpia sauce which they didn't initially give to us. The front of the house was apathetic. It was at least 80 degrees in there so it was unformattable. Now to the food. The dough on the BBQ pork buns was the worst I have ever had. Way too thick, almost like wonder bread, and little filling. Granted, I am used to them from Yank Sing in SF where they are wonderful. The lumpia was mediocre. Chow mein was mediocre. Fried green beans were good. We won't be going back. We have tried this restaurant three times. It is tucked in a shopping lot close to Trader Joe's and Chipotle. You order and pay at a cash register and then the food is brought to you. If you are interested you can watch the dumplings and noodles being made. We really enjoyed the popcorn chicken, pan fried dumplings, the cucumber, the Xiao long bao, and the beef noodle soup (the broth is flavorful and the meat isn't too fatty).
