We had Arnie from A & B Appliance visit our home for a dishwasher repair which cost $85 for the visit (note that a prior visit was only a $65 service fee for a different appliance). Upon arrival, the dishwasher was inspected and it was determined the light inside the dishwasher was broken. More specifically, the light was hanging down from the top of the fixture. Arnie then attempted to find a replacement part, but claimed he was unable to locate one. He then left without further attempt to fix the existing part or investigate the issue more. This was poor customer service and left us without a repair. In addition, he never pulled the actual dishwasher out of its housing as part of his investigation/service. We ended up calling a friend who looked over the issue, pulled the dishwasher out, and was able to identify the root of the problem. He ordered the replacement part with ease and installed it. We do not recommend A & B Appliance Service based on our experience and forking over a $85 service fee without any resolution. read more

Do not call these people. We had a built in Gen Elec Micro/Oven combo we bought new in 2012. We have had A&B out four times to repair only the microwave and the total cost was $721. In January 2023 he came again, charged us over $200 and 2 days later it stopped working again. We called A & B again but he was too busy to come for a few days. When he did, he said "it is unfixable and I can't even get parts for it anymore". We called the office complain and possibly get a partial refund but the very sarcastic woman said that it might have broken the very next day and after all we had to pay for his time. Based on our plumber's recommendation, I called A&B to have an issue looked at with a tenant's ice maker that was leaking. I regret not checking here on Yelp because had, i never would have done business with them. Arnie went out to do an assessment and said it needed a new icemaker. I said okay. About a week later I called to pay the bill and the first thing the older lady (assuming it's his mom) who answered the phone said was: "you haven't paid for the assessment." I said, well, that's why I'm calling. I don't live at the property and my tenant was there not me... For no reason, the call got heated. Regardless, the bill was paid and the ice maker was installed after that... i chalked it up to someone having a bad day. Less than 2 weeks later, my tenant called again and informed me that the icemaker was still leaking. I asked her to call S&B. She did and was informed they didn't like me and so weren't coming out to fix it. I called and spoke again to the older woman. I was one again informed how rude I was. I said, okay, but the icemaker is still leaking. The older lady passes the phone to Arnie, and I told him about the leak still there. He said I was rude to speak to an old lady that way... I said, I wasn't rude, but more importantly, the icemaker is still leaking. He said it wasn't his responsibility. I told him I would be disputing the charge. I asked if he knew how bad his yelp rating was and he said, "that has nothing to do with it." I said, well, it tells me it's you and not me... you actually have to work to get a bad rating. Moral of the story, even if it is a trusted recommendation, check yelp before you make the call. read more

My elderly parents hired A&B Appliance company for their gas stove repair. Following the service, my Mom developed a headache and smelled gas. She called them back and spoke with the wife (manager), who was uncooperative and did not recognize their responsibility. She informed my Mon to call PG&E. The PG&E came out immediately and diagnosed it as not being attached tightly and was significantly leaking gas. Had this not been correctly repaired, I fear what could have happened to my parents. read more

I was in town at my parents' home when this A&B serviceperson came to repair an appliance. I had to intercede because the person who came to repair the appliance caused further damage (after over an hour of "work"). When asked about the damage, he provided an UNPROFESSIONAL , INCOMPREHENSIBLE explanation and immediately left. I tried to follow up with this company and the woman answering the phone was absolutely RUDE to me despite my politeness. I honestly do not know how this place is in business with this UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR. My parents will now need to completely replace their expensive appliance. I want to provide an update here. So not only did this company provide horrible customer service, but come to find out my dishwasher doesnt require my water to run on hot before turning on the dishwasher. My appliance has a coil that heats the water! Also, the repair this guy did was rigged, he broke my dishwasher!!! As for my oven he pretty much shoved it in wrong, causing damage to it. Had to have it reinstalled. This guy is a lazy, incompetent man who clearly cares only his bottom line. He did nothing with care or finesse. Instead he forced parts together and broke my appliances. Arnie came over today .......... I was desperate .... My heater was not working and I am sure it was around 40 degrees. I also have a Dish Washer that wasn't working right ..... and a Electric Wall Heater ------ that was very scary to turn on ... since it sounded like it was going to Explode and the Smell was horrible. ---- Arnie came over right away: within 2 hours after I called his office and talked to this wonderful receptionist (wife). If I could give 0 stars I would. Home Depot set me up with A & B Appliance to get my washer repaired. I called after I had not heard from anyone to set up an appointment. A lady named Beverley answered the phone and before I could give any information, she said "she doesn't know anything about anything", and denied ever talking to Home Depot. There is no other way I would have gotten her number, if it wasn't given to me! Remarkably she did recall talking to Home Depot and refused the service request because I lived too far away. As I was trying to get more information from her she told me to shut up and hung up the phone on me. I called back requesting to talk to a manager/owner and she said that she was the owner. Arnie (who I believe is at retirement age +) has been out to my parents house several times and I honestly feel they have been ripped off. He fixed their refrigerator but put it back absolutely crooked. I saw what had happened during my last visit to my parents and asked him to come straighten it out. He came out and said that's how it has to be. Didn't fix it professionally because he's a one man show and doesn't have the ability to move it and do it correctly. Then my mom had him come out a couple of weeks ago because her microwave went out. He was there less than 15 minutes. Flipped the breaker in the garage and charged her $65! Don't use this company. We have a home warranty and so they assigned this company to us. Didn't ever look on Yelp until now. Wish I had. Our dishwasher went out 2 months ago. It took them 2 weeks to schedule the appointment to see it, then 3 weeks to get the part and come back out, only to find out there was a different issue with the dishwasher and they needed to order another part. We waited an extra 2 weeks and then called to check in since we hadn't heard anything. The receptionist/wife (Beverly) was so rude. Told me that "it's their busy season" and that they don't know when it will come in and that when it does they will call me. I politely asked if I could get a confirmation of the date the part was ordered to ensure it actually was and she told me she didn't have time for this and hung up on me. My husband then called to talk to her and when he said his last name, she hung up on him. They now will not answer our phone calls or the home warranty's phone call so we are stuck with getting a new vendor out and starting all over. They are a mom and pop shop and unfortunately don't act like a professional company. I normally am happy to support small companies but can't seem to support someone who thinks its ok to treat their customers like this and think it is ok to hang up on someone. read more

I had Arnie (who lives in my neighborhood) replace an adapter that had a slow leak on my gas cook top. PG&E had removed a large heavy drawer containing my cookware to get access to the part. They were unable to complete the repair so I called A&B Appliance. He demanded a deposit of $80. I requested to know the cost of the part. He said it was on the receipt, but it's non legible. It ended up costing $186.37 total which seems exorbitant. After replacing the part, Arnie left with the drawer out and all my cookware on top of my stove. My daughter drove a half an hour to put the drawer back, but could not get it on the track. It is very deep, large and heavy. Then my daughter called to ask if Arnie would come and put it back. Beverly said he would not come until Mon. I am 93 with neuropathy using a walker. I am very disappointed that Arnie did not have the courtesy to put back the drawer, but even more so when he refused after I also called him. Especially when he lives in my development only a few blocks away. In the end my son in law with a back issue drove a half hour to put the drawer back. I would not recommend this company. read more

But when I saw that A & B had a 2 1/2 star rating and reading the bad reviews I just had to respond. Arnie is a very nice man to deal with and is certainly an expert in the appliance repair business and his wife Beverly is always very nice when I call to set up an appointment. I recently had a problem with the igniter on my gas cooktop. Beverly pleasantly took my call and set up an appointment. Arnie came at the time arranged and soon took care of my problem. So they were very nice to fit us in for an appt last week. We had an issue with our Dryer not operating. The gentleman showed late after a miscommunication, then promptly took a whole FIVE minutes to tell us the dryer vent was clogged and gave us a card to someone else. That company comes out and does their thing and well, but it didn't solve the problem. So now I've spent 300 bucks on a dryer that still isn't working. After two months our brand new Bosch dishwasher, which had been very quiet, started making weird sounds. I called the Bosch service line and they gave me a few local repair services, one of which was A & B. I was happy about this, because Arnie had already been to our home once to fix our cook-top range. I didn't know A&B was certified to do warranty work for Bosch. Arnie came right out and determined that the main motor was making the noise. He ordered a new one from Bosch and when it arrived came back to install the new motor. I thought this would take quite a while, since the installation of the Bosch when it was new took over two hours, and Arnie would have to take it out, replace the motor (not trivial) and put it back. But he finished up in just about 1 hour! Great service, nice people. A & B is on my speed dial. And oh, did I mention that when Arnie was out the first time about the range he showed me how to reset the oven temp which had been off since day one. My wife had been using an oven thermometer to get the right temp in the oven, but after the adjustment the oven works just fine! read more

My home warranty dispatched another appliance repair company at first, who took over 32 hours to contact me and 6 days to schedule. When the tech got here he spent 5 minutes in my home and said he would order parts but then said he didnt know how to fix the two appliances. Home warranty then dispatched A and B who called me within 10 minutes and as a favor to the home warranty company came out that afternoon. Arnie spent ample time trying to diagnose the problems and took apart the compactor to really figure out what was going on. He called for parts while he was in my house, gave me a receipt, and was pleasant, helpful, professional and very knowledgable, all which the first company was not. It is not often that we get service like this so I wanted to make sure i recognized them so other people could see. As a realtor I always make sure I have a list of people my clients can call, and I have added A and B to the top of my list. read more

We have had Arnie come to our house twice since we moved in. First he was sent by our home wrranty company and fixed the dishwasher. He was so knowledgeable that we called him when the washing machine also broke down. No problem for Arnie. He repaired the loose tub which was making a terrible racket and gave us advice on how to extend the use of the machine. Super nice guy! read more

Poor customer service tech made my fiancée feel uncomfortable

My refrigerator had a small water leak coming from the water filter and so a $40 plastic inlet needed to be replaced. There was also a $45 front roller and rivet that was missing. Arnie informed that he would order the plastic inlet and the front roller/rivet and the total charges would come to $218. A few days later Arnie arrives to make the repairs but as he starts work he tells me that the front roller has not yet arrived. He installed the plastic inlet in less than an hour and then informs me that this refrigerator can't be fitted with a left front roller and that the $218 charge was to replace the water inlet only. I argued that that was not what we agreed upon but to no avail. I paid him the full amount but I will never use his services again. I only wish I had gone to Yelp earlier and read the reviews. I called and made an appointment because our ice maker stopped working on her fridge. The man I spoke with was nice and offered me a window of 1-3pm for an appointment. When 3:30 came and went I called the number. An older woman told me he was down to just one person today. I have appointments every day for my work and I wouldn't dream of being over 30 minutes late without calling to let someone know. I explained that I had to go pick up my toddler and that I don't typically do business with companies that don't have the courtesy to call when they don't show up (especially when they give a 3 hour window)....She didn't even let me finish my sentence before she said "find someone else" and hung up. BEWARE: Called and was quoted $55 for diagnosis on our washer - I was told we would receive a call before arrival and that's when I planned to discuss the details with Arnie as I had already done some troubleshooting myself, and Beverly did not seem interested in taking notes for the appointment over the phone. Arnie never called me, instead showed up and met my wife, fixing the clog in our drain in about 20 minutes, but did not provide any update along the way until handing her the bill. We were expecting a diagnosis and break down of price for the work needed before it was completed, but that did not happen. We were charged the $55 for the trip and an additional $80 for the 20 minutes of labor. When we called to discuss the high labor fee with Beverly, she quoted that their labor cost was $15/15 minutes and she would discuss with Arnie when he was back. She called us back to tell us she "got into it" with Arnie but his price was his price, and we were out of luck for any refund - she chalked it up to "a learning experience". I was initially glad to support a small business, but they will overcharge you the same as the rest of them. read more

Another company came to again repair the microwave. The tech was courteous and pleasant not like Arnie. They replaced the same part. Curiously the total cost both labor and parts was $269 versus $408 that A and B charged on their first attempt to repair. The most recent was covered under warranty. I think Arnie was trying to double dip by collecting from us and a warranty claim from Thermador. This solidifies my statement that I would never use or recommend A and B to anyone. read more

Arnie came in to replace 2 springs on my microwave door. The work was done right but my beef is with the cost. Hi charged me $55 just to come over and then another $80 labor to fix and also marked up the cost of the parts by almost 50%. The whole job took an hour. Arnie came out to diagnose and, hopefully, fix my late model Whirlpool that I bought 5 years ago at Sears. His fee to come out and look at the machine was less than what Sears wanted and he was able to come to my home sooner as well. He told me the problem in less than 5 minutes and told me to not waste my money to fix the thing. I had suspected this would be the news but I have a feeling the Sears guy would have told me that it should be fixed for this much or to buy a new one from them. I have had this happen before. Would give this place 0 stars if I could, Arnie came out to my moms house to fix our dryer and told us a part that was broken is unfixable and told us it would be best to buy a new dryer. My fiancé's father came to take it apart and take a look at it before we bought a new one and found that there was parts missing ... our dryer was gutted out and the part that Arnie said broke off was snipped off with scissors .. he charged us more than the quoted 55$ , and stole parts from our dryer that we could have fixed ourselves , this business should be shut down with how many unhappy reviews there are because they obviously don't know how to run their business properly. read more

I've had two experiences with this company. Both were horrible. The first time he broke water pipes left and didn't tell us and later denied it. The second time came out spent less than five minutes looking at three appliances and proceeded to tell me I was not using them correctly. When I ask questions he got very rude and hostile, and told me to go get a second opinion yelling walking out of the house. Unfortunately this is a small business, his wife works in the office and he is the service man so you have no alternatives to get assistance. Our refrigerator water dispenser stopped working after 5 years. My husband set up the appointment window and Arnie arrived in the time line. It ended up being a frozen line that Arnie instructed us to turn off the refrigerator overnight to thaw. It did the trick. So many other companies would of taken advantage of the situation. A&B Appliance Service call fee was way lower than several other companies we contacted prior to finding this company and Arnie said that the charge was good for 30 days towards the repair if thawing overnight didn't work and they had to come back out. read more

I had a service visit from this company concerning my 9 year old Bosch clothes washer. I was told the motor needed to be replaced and that it would cost aprox. 400.00. After making a quick phone call Arnie gave me the bad news, he said that the company no longer manufactured the motor for my washer and that I would need to purchase a new washer. I was devastated and angry because my washer and dryer had been very expensive and used only lightly. He pushed a few buttons; gave me the bad news; told me to purchase a new washer; charged me $85.00 and said I'd get over it. After he left I calmed down--- called around and got a referral for Best Appliance Repair. Craig, the owner was at my house within two hours and 40 mins later I was washing clothes. He offered me a new motor or a rebuilt one with the same warranty for $70.00 less. I went from devastation to bliss in a matter of hours as I happily wrote the check for $337.00. Yes, Arnie had been right about the bad motor and the approximate cost to replace it, but Arnie nearly cost me a lot of money that I didn't have with his go buy a new washer advise. I think Arnie may have a good thing going. He can drives around town doing service calls and make pretty good money without doing any repair work. Arnie you get a thumbs down from me.
